If you're traveling Route 66 (or are just anywhere near Dairy King), you should stop here. The inside is a tight squeeze with only four booths but there's also a drive-thru option. The owner was taking orders at both the counter and drive-thru, running food, and still managed to make time to talk with us when things slowed down and share some Route 66 stories. The locals stopping in also chatted with us, which we loved the hospitality. We both got cheeseburgers -- I recommend getting the large one -- and they were juicy and fresh. So so good. We also got the Route 66 cookies. These were a little crunchy for what I prefer but still so fun and had a strong buttery taste. read more

Stopped for some ice cream. Soft serve cones and milkshakes. Very tasty. Owner was very nice and we loved hearing some history. You should definitely go inside for the nostalgia and history lesson. read more

I am SO GLAD we stopped into Dairy King on our Route 66 trip. This is literally THE place everyone is looking for. I will confess that I felt guilty at how I was losing my fucking shit over the place as normal people were going about their lives getting a bite to eat inside. It is one of many restored gas stations from the era and if you've done Route 66 I'm sure you can relate to the sentiment that it gets old after a while. Sure, it's AWESOME the first couple times but then it's like ok another restored gas station? But the entire landscape of the area serves small town, historic realness. It's tiny inside but I'm sure the decor hasn't changed one bit from the original. I feel like walking through the entrance was literally teleporting into a previous era. Everybody inside literally STARED at us, two urban, east coast bitches from 2021 stepped out from a time machine into rural Oklahoma. I just had to try one of their milkshakes, I ordered a butterscotch. There was nothing particularly special about it, it was good, and less sweet than I feel like contemporary milkshakes usually are, but it was literally $2.75. WTF?!? This is a MUST STOP if you're on the "mother road" and looking for the old time experience. read more

Super cute. There are four tables. I just went there for the cookies and the photo op. The cookies were recommended to me. At first I was like Hmmm. These are rock hard...BUT!! I think it's because they are made with real butter. Once you get past the crunchiness, they melt in your mouth. The lady was very sweet and asked me to sign her guest book. I just wish that car that's in everyone's photos wasn't always parked in the front! Ruins the photos! read more

This place gets five stars for ambience. I am traveling Route 66 on vacation, and this place was mentioned as a possible lunch spot, but definitely a photo op. The owner's son has trademarked his Route 66 sugar cookies. They are the shape of the highway shield, and they melt in the mouth like a good cookie should. I didn't have other food while there, but the smells of the food being prepared suggested it would be a good spot to try at another time. I was there at least 30 minutes listening to stories from both mother and son. It is definitely worth a stop and visit inside if you are on a meandering trip like mine. The food is good but the owners really make this place. They are very friendly and the gentleman is a walking history book on the city of Commerce. Have a question about Mickey Mantle (it's his hometown)?He could tell you stories. Want to know about Bonnie and Clyde who kidnapped a town police officer and killed a sheriff deputy? Seriously, if you're traveling down route 66 and you happen to stop over in commerce while following it, stop off here an order a burger from the lady that runs it. If she's not too busy she would gladly share historical information about the town. Oh and did I mention ordering a burger, I stop in there whenever I can just to order a Jumbo Double Cheeseburger however she fixes it and the thing blows my mind away every time (yes its a really good burger, huge too). So if you are cruising down the mother road, stop in here an chat it up and eat ( place doesn't look like much but the food is AMAZING.) My buddy and I stopped just to take a couple of pictures with our motorcycles out front and out walks Charles, wanting to take OUR pictures! We really didn't intend to stay long or have lunch, but after a few minutes of talking to Charles, we wound up there for an hour and a half and had, without question, the absolute BEST cheeseburgers EVER! Washed them down with milkshakes made by Charles' mother. The stories about Mickey Mantle, Bonnie and Clyde, and Route 66 flowed. A totally memorable experience, by two of the friendliest people you will ever meet. We were also luck enough to be there when Charles' uncle was having a milkshake - he asked where we were from, we said, "Michigan..." He relies in the driest voice with just a hint of a smile, "Well, you ain't getting there tonight..." An amazing stop, my only regret is that I was so full after the huge cheeseburger and shake that I didn't get a Route 66 cookie. Guess I'll have to go back!! read more
