I got it in my head that I wanted to go to an ice cream parlor (rather than just a soft serve place or a store), and I saw Vicky's on Yelp. Now, it is kind of far from me, but I had nothing else to do, so I decided to go there. It's in a little strip of shops on 6 Mile Road -- very easy to miss, which I did. Drove around the block, slowed down and found it. There was one young woman working there, and she was very friendly. While she was waiting on the person in front of me, I decided to get a pint to take home, as well as a baby cone. The prices are pretty reasonable, and the ice cream is very good. I got Mackinac peanut butter fudge to bring home (I haven't tasted it yet), and a strawberry cheesecake cone to eat in the car. They only charged $1.89 for the baby cone, and it was a sufficient amount. I will be sure to keep this place in mind! read more

This place is a hidden gem. They make the ice cream right in front of you in 3 gallon batches. If you have ever made ice cream at home you know just how good this is. If it was rated on taste it would be right at the top. And I'm very angry at The Metro Times for missing this wonderful little shop every year in their list of top ice cream places. I love local businesses and came here because of Yelp. Didn't have chocolate chip? Server behind the counter must have been new as he put three small scoops on a waffle cone others had huge dips but ok don't eat too much ice cream. Lots of unusual flavors like cantaloupe,red velvet and bumpy cake. Will have to try again in the future. read more

This was my first time here. They have a daily ice cream flavor menu. Today's menu was extensive, but the flavor that caught my eye banana oreo. I ordered a scoop of the banana oreo and cookie dough (one of my favorite flavor ice creams) in a sundae with hot fudge, caramel, and chopped nuts. The banana oreo was a very good combination of flavors. I really enjoyed my sundae and can't wait to try other flavors. The service was friendly. I'd recommend this ice shop. read more

Fantastic homemade ice cream. The best I've ever had. They make small batches (3 gallons) right in front of you. This place should be at the top of every ice cream list. Every year I am disappointed when the Metro Times puts out their list and misses Vicky's. Maybe Redford isn't trendy enough for them. But if you want real homemade ice cream, this is the place to go. We actually discovered this quaint little Shoppe on Yelp so Thank You for this service! Our first time here and we LOVE the ice cream! Out for a drive after leaving the movies and decided on ice cream but we wanted real old school HAND PACKED ice cream not the soft serve stuff and we found it!!! The ice cream was DELICIOUS and served in awesome portions. We by-passed our old standard Baskin-Robins to try something new and this place will be our new regular spot! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because one of the people serving another customer did NOT wash their hands before they prepared their ice cream however the young lady who served me did wash her hands then she pulled out a napkin grabbed my waffle cone and wrapped it around so she never touched my cone ..LOVED that! I have gone here a few times and the service is usually nice. I stopped in today for a scoop of ice cream and the man behind the counter was rude and had a major attitude problem. I got a scoop of ice cream and the scoop was pretty small for the price. I asked the man serving me, "may I please have a little bit more?" And he replied "If I do that I am going to have to charge you!" You want a double?!" I replied to him "I don't want a full scoop just a tad bit more added to the single dip" He replied "No that is a single scoop and I would have to charge you!" This bothered me cause if you go anywhere else there is no issue, with adding a bit more. The way he spoke to me was rude and who argues with the customer? Anyway, I doubt if I ever go here again. They are kind of stingy and the service in this incident was not great. read more

Really cute place and really good service. The problem is, the ice cream just wasn't that good. Decent, and certainly not awful, but not nearly as good as we expected. I had a butter pecan cone, my son had a moose tracks cone. Neither of the ice creams were very good. They were definitely not creamy & rich-rather they were more "icy" than creamy. Disappointing.
