After driving from Cali back to Texas, I found this place on my yep, Yelp search in the vicinity. You can't go wrong with a heavy burger to top off a long drive, knowing your going home to rest... umm Maybe... First off the parking lot was small so be ware. We walked in around lunch 1:15ish to a line full of folks ready to order a classic exotic burger, sandwich,, country breakfasts, menus for seniors and for kids too, and even Tex-Mex favorites. Oh and can't forget ice cream. World famous since 1984. I was really choosing, and opted for the Texas sunrise. It woke me up, and put me to sleep hours later. I can say, it was nice. The burgers here use to be great, now just a former shadow of what they were. The beef patties are old and really not warm as if they had the cooked beef patty sitting out. I understand you need to serve people in a timely manner, but quality over quantity. Getting a hot, juicy, cooked-to-order burger use to be a big deal here. Now to get something fresh you have to order a type of burger, like an Impossible Burger, to be served hot. My partner and I even compared, again, the difference. It's sad. I wish they would bring back the elevator music. It was more endurable than the contemporary Christian music where they keep shouting "Amen" loudly as you attempt to eat a lukewarm burger. And some of the staff act like they have no marbles while others are extremely robotic. Just weird. The food use to be so much better, now it's just like any other fast food joint. At least the place is clean regardless of the tiny restrooms. You need bigger restrooms because some people are larger. I've watched 300 pound individuals struggle. And the ventilation in the restrooms could use some improvement. Come on, there are seats right outside that area and some of these people go back to take a #2 and blow-up the toilet. All other customers that sat down behind us had received their order, ate and had left. The 2nd round of customers that came in had received their food and were eating when I asked for a refund after 1hour of waiting. New to the area and will never go into Dairy Palace again. It's a great burger joint with exotic meats to try, such as bison, fish, etc. They also have ice cream too. It's a great place to stop by on your way. They also have a EV charger so you can charge your car while getting some burger or ice cream for a stop on your way. Note that I left my jacket here one time, called them later the same day, they said they found it in the employee back room. But I'm from out of town so when I came back a few days later to get it, they said no one even claimed that they had found it before. I think they have employees turnover, or that someone is not honest and took it from the locker room. read more

This is a great stop for a diner type meal made fresh to order. There are multiple meat burger selections like bison, duck, and venison, but I wasn't feeling so adventurous so I just got a burger. It had an egg, hash browns, and bacon and was delicious. The chicken fried steak and fries was decent but a little bland and the onion rings were over cooked to the point where they were inedible. I would definitely try this place again because of the service and the burger, but I'd steer away from non-burger items. read more

I used to live in this small town about 30 years ago. One of my FONDEST memories was when my parents would stop at Dairy Palace and get us kids a burger. 30 years later, a more refined palate, I was driving past this little town and had to stop in and see if it was as good as I remember. In a word, yes, yes it was still amazing. Fresh cooked in front of me. Toasted bun. Mayo. Mustard. Chopped onions. Pickle. Delicious. I was so happy. I was transported back to a time where we played Pac-Man on the arcade machines, you could still drink Coca-Cola without the nanny state having something to say about it, and riding in the back of the station wagon without a seat belt was the norm. If you even PASS BY Canton Texas, you would be remiss and doing yourself a MASSIVE disservice by not stopping in here, supporting a local business, grab a burger, and get to eating. Wouldn't be called the Dairy Palace for nothing. They even make their own fruit pies from peach, cherry to apricots. I had the peach pie and bison burger. So the wife and I stopped here on our way home she had a single I had a double bacon cheeseburger. Flavor throughout the burger it was very good and for my wife to say it that means a lot. OMG, my husband just happened to be in Canton to make a delivery and stopped at Dairy Palace and called me and asked if I wanted to bring me something. I checked out the menu and had him bring me a 1/3 pound burger with cheese and everything and fried mushrooms. Mind you, I live in Tyler and it is a 45 minute drive. He finally gets home and I am starving! I tried the burger and it is delicious. I would have to say it was the best burger I have ever had. The meat was perfectly flavored and cooked. On our way to the fleamarket we wanted a good burger. Saw this place with decent reviews plus it said "World Famous". We ordered parked and waited. While other cats and truck came gotbfood and left, we waited and waited. I asked about our order and it was sitting on line. Another 5 or so minutes and finally it came out. Talk about let down. Onion rings good but the rest was average. My little girl said it was OK. Noitjing special. Dang it, I wanted a bomb burger but instead the ball was dropped. If your hungry go somewhere else. The menu is extensive with exotic meats on it. Pretty cool! We stopped in for ice cream. The choices are blue bell and homemade. We Opted for the homemade. Chocolate brownie was really good. The dark chocolate had a funky taste we both agreed so I swapped it out for chocolate brownie. We will be back to try food next time we are in the area. $2.59 per scoop a bit overpriced. The gravy consistency was spot on. The bad: the OJ, of all things. Very watered down and not good at all. The hashbrowns were average and greasy. The CFS itself had a very weird batter on it (see photo) The ugly: a dated interior, but clean and functional. Reminded me of a Waffle House. Overall, I would not recommend this as a breakfast stop, even not knowing what else is in Canton. Friendly staff and a clean restaurant could not overcome mediocre food. read more

This place can be a little challenging to get into because of its location and traffic but it's worth trying. All of there food looks really good and they have a good array of things to choose from. I got a cheeseburger and added jalapenos and grilled onions. Which has now become my favorite things to add to burgers now. The burger was pretty good. Not the best burger I have eaten but if I was in the area and craving a burger, I'd stop there for one. My sister got the steak fingers. Tried a bite and they were pretty good. We also ordered some fried pickles. They use corn meal for the batter. Bot my favorite type of pickles but my sister likes them. Got an order of there fries. They were thick cut but not as crunchy as we hoped they would be. If you like a crisp to your fries, ask for them to be crispy. I haven't been able to try other places in the area to compare them but so far, it's a good place to sit down and get a burger at. read more

I was passing by on a recent fishing trip and decided to give this place a try, as I'm a sucker for a good local greasy spoon type place. This place has quite the following. I walking in on the weekend around noon and the line was already about 15 people deep! A few folks gave up and left the line, assumably to hit up Whataburger just down the street. They make all orders fresh, so don't expect this to be the same type of experience that you get at most burger places. After about 15 minutes I found myself at the front of the line where you are faced with the tough decision on what burger to get. Obviously they have your standard burgers, but they also have a pretty large offering of exotic proteins for your burger. I played it safe and went with a double cheeseburger and tots. One thing that surprised me was the cost. It's a pretty expensive place to eat, but that is because they source their beef from 44farms which is a higher end south Texas beef ranch. You aren't getting a hormone filled McDonald's beef patty here, so expect to pay for it. About 6-7 minutes after placing my order, it was delivered to me and just looking at it, I knew this was going to be a good meal. It was really good. Have I had better? Yes, but it's definitely better than Whataburger. Would I eat here again? Depends on what time I am passing by. I don't think I would go at noon again, but I definitely hope this won't be my last trip there. read more

Easily my favorite restaurant in canton. It's convenient for people traveling through on the interstate, or those that are in town for First Monday, but it's still a staple for the locals. I've been eating here for 40 years, and it keeps getting better. which is hard to believe. Great ice cream selection from Blue Bell & Henry's Homemade Ice Cream. There is a flavor from everyone, including dairy-free. Speaking of Dairy-free, dairy palace has several vegan and vegetarian options. All of their beef is from 44 Farms, so you know it's quality, and you can taste it. They recently remodeled and took the tiffany lamps out of the dining room. which is a bummer, because the nostalgia was part of the charm. ;) It was so clean, that even the old decor seemed brand new. No worries, though... the new modern interior doesn't affect the great service or awesome taste. I usually cruise through for an Old Fashioned Breakfast sandwich and a coffee. THey also have several exotic meat sandwiches. The Elk Burger is awesome. it has this plum sauce that is killer on it. Joe Rogan would be proud. I highly recommend it. They kids meals are usually pretty great and have veggie tales toys sometimes. usually a hit with the little ones. hard not to say enough good things about this spot. My wife and I had lunch and spent $22 for a small burger, fries, milkshake and a hamburger steak plate. The food and ice cream are both good, not great. The ice cream (blue bell) and burger prices seem high. Service is slow. Pluses include real mashed potatoes, good biscuits and fries. And like I said, the burger was good as was the shake. The price for the hamburger steak plate was reasonable. On the negative side, I didn't specify how I wanted my hamburger steak cooked, and the default is burnt. The salad was mostly cheese and a little tasteless iceberg lettuce. Not my thing. This place always seems busy and our hotel clerk recommend it for breakfast so we stopped in the next day for some grub. You walk in and place your order at the counter and give your name and the food will be brought out to you. The food came out within a reasonable time and staff was friendly and attentive. Wife had a regular 2 egg breakfast with hash browns, bacon and side of gravy (gravy was excellent) I had the the omelet with sausage, ham, bell peppers and cheese with a side of hash browns as well.
