The blizzard machine broke right after we ordered, we waited for 10 minutes and they didn't even tell us, we heard them talking to other people. we asked for a refund and it took them 5 minutes to figure how to do that and they swore in front of my sisters and then 2 minutes after we left, we found out that the refund didn't even go through, AND we almost missed our fairy and had to sprint non-stop. I would not visit this location again. I am lactose intolerant and you can eat dairy queen without having to take lactade, which is why I frequent dairy queen. Yesterday, however, this location served me a soft chocolate ice cream that was not dairy queen. I became quite ill because of the milk fat content. The consistency and taste was not the dairy queen that I have been eating for years. This is besides the fact that they attempted to charge me three dollars for a cup of ice water. The store was practically empty. The employees were rude and were very quick to tell us they were closing soon. It was 8:25. They close at 9pm on Saturdays. Fair enough to say politely so we expect not to dine in but we were taking them to go. We only ordered 3 items. Those items took over 20 minutes, which was fine with the exception that the employees were leaving and talking to people in the parking lot which seemed a bit odd because we were told they couldn't do food anymore...so why was food not being made?. I was at Dairy Queen today a noticed a lot of issues with this establishment. The drive line was about 8 cars deep so we went inside to place our order (we thought it would be faster). The line inside was about 3 people deep and about 3 deep for people waiting to get their food. We placed our order, couple of mike shakes. We waited and waited and waited. My shake came out within 10 minutes my wife shake took over a half an order to get. It seems that the kid behind the counter did not know what to do, half the time he would read the menu orders over and over then walk away stood at the ice cream station then walk back to the menu orders and read over and over again. The food warmer were backing out, no one was working it. People that were waiting were getting upset because of the delay. So, I noticed that the kid was constantly pulling his hair and handling foods without washing his hands, this if very unpleasing and unsanitary, I think that the Washington State Health Department needs to be review. The last thing about the kid behind that counter my wife believes that he might have been on drugs in the way we was acting. I feel this place needs to be shut down and for the owner to come in a rebuild this establishment. I also feel this establishment does not care about the customer because they get a lot people from the ferries. read more

As the Dairy Queen manager suggested I have given this place a second chance. I went to get a cheese burger for my elderly dog as treat. First thing I noticed when I got home with it is that it was warm. That was the positive. The bun was really hard like it was stale and just reheated in a microwave. No big deal because it was for my dog. The next thing I noticed was this cheese burger was missing the hamburger patty. Now I can see forgetting the pickle or onion or even a squirt of ketchup but come on how do you miss not putting on the hamburger patty. My banana split had virtually no ice cream and was pretty much soup as well. Young man working the counter was friendly but the older woman who was either manager or owner was really cranky and rude. Want to use the restroom? Have to hunt down an employee for a door code. This is Whidbey Island. Not how things work. Don't waste your time at this Dairy Queen. Just drive a half mile down the road and get your ice cream fix filled at a real ice cream store with great ownership. read more

I have been at 20(ish) Dairy Queens going back to the 1990s throughout 5 different states. This is (by far) the worst I have been to in the entire U.S. Their diner is not open which means you are forced to go through the drive-through. They screw up your order, go back through the drive-through, wait another 30 minutes in line. So here's what happened today: 1.) Sat in a long line that had just gotten off the ferry (moved horribly slow). 2.) Employee taking the order, just kept repeating is that all?, never actually repeated the order, just gave us a final price. 3.) Picked our food up (after waiting 20+ minutes. 4.) Didn't give us one of our four total sandwiches. Went to window (on foot after waiting in line another 15 minutes in my car), had my receipt basically thrown back at me (they printed a new copy) saying "see, we didn't charge you for the fourth sandwich so it's okay, but would you like order another one?", I didn't have my credit card on me and politely said, after all this wait and your dining room not being open, you really need to repeat the orders and try and get the order right. The employees response was "you don't need to be a d*ck about it (yep, he called me a slang term for certain male body parts). I asked him if he called me a swear word, he basically said yes and my next response was that he should come out and chat in person about this. Needless to say, I walked away without my sandwich as I don't need it spit in or whatever after this confrontation. I own a business so I understand that it can be really hard to find good help. Here's a hint, the way to solve this problem when a client waits 20+ minutes and you screw up the order is NOT to throw the receipt at them saying "see, we didn't bill you". The way you solve the problem is hand me a cheeseburger (yep, all this over a single plain junior cheeseburger) and the receipt and say, "hey, sorry we screwed your order up and you had to wait, here's a burger and we didn't charge you, have a nice day". Maybe that's the training this idiot needs rather than training him to insult (by calling them a slang term for a phallus) a customer who was polite and initially restrained. I was less restrained after being called this insult. read more

Located about a half mile from the Ferry Terminal, it was a revelation to be able to go on vacation and find that I could get my all time favorite dessert, The Oreo Blizzard, right before jumping onto my ferry ride back to the mainland. Nestled just a few blocks from the ferry line, if you time it just right, you can run across, make an order and have it in plenty of time before the line departs. I found the staff here to be incredibly helpful and of course the food here is always amazing. This DQ has been an institution on Whidbey for years and it doesn't disappoint. Hope to make it a regular occurrence to stop by here! read more

I rarely eat at fast food burger places, but sometimes I just have to go there. I went there this last summer a few times to fill the urge. The fish sandwich was marginal, a piece of breaded fried fish on a plain bun. The fries were, well, fries, not bad, not great. What got me though was the mushroom burger: instead of a few fresh grilled mushrooms (or even canned ones), they put some kind of sauce on it that was like condensed canned mushroom soup right out of the can. I just called back to confirm that I had only paid for the items I had recieved and I was hung up on after 12 rings... Not even an answering machine!!! I wish I could negative star but unfortunately it isn't available on here. There's only one fast food joint on the south end of Whidbey Island and I'm pretty sure there should be none. Worst customer service, worst greasy food and to top it off it's quite dirty.. Working there showed me all. GO TO PICKLES DELI. They are quick, efficient and lovely to talk to. First off this needs a new review for this year (2016) As for food it depends on who's cooking if it is what I assume is the owner (older Asian guy) he works fast so food looks sloppy other than that small complaint. For as fast food goes quality is really good. For their counter workers I've notice the tall super thin brown hair one look quite confused most of the time, and the short squat one with red hair as well looks like they are quite sure what's going on. Other than that everyone is super friendly. They are willing to go out of their way to make you happy like adding cotton candy to ice cream cones. read more
