We were told Frugals was a must visit when in Port Angeles and we decided to drop by for our last meal before leaving. This location is drive through only. We actually drove past it several times on our trip. On the first night, there was a line of cars out all the way down 101. We decided to go for lunch instead since we didn't want to wait. This was a bit after noon and the line was way more manageable. Double Cheeseburger ($7.48) - They start with a fluffy sesame bun, then pile on the sauces (mayo, mustard, ketchup), diced onion, pickles, shredded lettuce, and finally two burger patties with cheese. The toppings are all on the bottom, which make the first flavor to hit the tongue a sweet, salty, sour, and creamy punch. There is a decent amount of lettuce and onion and only three small pickle chips that help add some additional crunch and acidity, but there aren't really enough to cover every bite. The burger patties are solid fast food/drive-in type patties. They have a decent char taste and are easy to eat, although there's not really any char texture, and instead the burgers are the same texture throughout. Overall, a good burger, as expected of this type of establishment. (4/5) Cheddar Cheese Curds ($3.95) - These are decent curds. They are fried to a good crisp. They're salty, cheesy, and have a good cheese curd chew. The breading has small rocky pieces of raised breading embedded throughout. Pretty standard fried curds. Unfortunately they don't really give a lot for the price - only like 10 or so curds. (4/5) Milkshake, Large, Huckleberry ($4.95) - This milkshake has nice smooth consistency throughout. There aren't any thicker or thinner spots in particular, so it's a nice drink from start to finish. Very drinkable, not horribly oversweet, and with a good huckleberry flavor. Way overpriced , customer service was mid! We paid 30 dollars for two meals, and at the window the person working slammed the window on us and did not hand us the drinks we ordered with our meal. We waited at the window for it to re open for about 30 seconds while waiving our hands to get their attention and were ignored by everyone inside. We just left the drinks that we paid for because the line was building up and we didn't want to be rude. Was pretty bummed about that because who wants to eat a burger and fries without a soft drink?? Probably won't come back due to customer service. Also don't even waste your money on their milk shakes, they are horrible. One of the locals recommended to stop here if I've never tried it. The location I visited was a drive-thru only. The line looks intimidatingly long but it goes by quick and there are two drive thru lanes as well. The combos are not too expensive. My significant other & myself went to Frugal's last night and we both ordered their chicken sandwich with cranberry sauce and cream cheese and egg nog milk shakes. First of all, the sandwiches were so drenched with sauce that we couldn't even pick them up without all of the innards falling out the bottom, and that's even after we put holes through the sandwiches with our fingers due to the bread being that wet. It was so disgusting ! YUCK! The milk shakes were alright but,they did not make up for the lousy food. We are utterly disgusted with the whole ordeal. Drive-thru only! It's meant to be a convenience but since we were staying at the hotel right next door, it ended up being an inconvenience to have to drive over. There are two lines and they both move very fast so if you see cars spilling out of the driveway, don't worry because you'll get to ordering soon enough. Because we had an order of 12 burgers, we had everything ready before the window. The cashier took our orders with no complaint but when he read it back, it was in a different order and I have no idea if he got everything. In the end, we weren't missing any burgers but a couple had some wrong modifications. They label each of the burger wrappers with the type of burger and modifications and it took us a minute to figure out what was what. The standard burger order comes with ketchup, mustard, mayo, lettuce, onions, and pickles. You can remove some of them or even add tomatoes, grilled mushrooms, onions, etc. for a small price. I'm a little disappointed that tomatoes aren't part of the standard but the extra cost is pretty minimal. A combo order also comes with fries, drink, and fry sauce (which was forgotten). The burger itself was a little underwhelming. I didn't think the patty was juicy or flavorful enough. The fries had the same texture as McDonald's, a little soft and crispy at the same time but lacking salt. Located right next to the hotel complex we were staying in, Frugals was way too convenient not to have as a meal during our stay in Port Angeles. - PARKING - Drive-thru only! No walk-ins, no walk-bys; you stay in your car the entire time. Order at the intercom, and drive up to the window where you'll pay and grab your food as well. - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - With it only being drive-thru, when it gets busy the line can extend out into the main road. We had a large order but the employee got all of it down correct the first time! Unfortunately after we left, we saw that they didn't include the fry sauce that comes with every combo, which we had many of. We did appreciate the fact they labeled each of the burger wrappers so we didn't have to open them up! - FOOD - Bacon Cheeseburger: Bun is pretty soft, patty is also fairly juicy! The bacon gave a nice salty flavor to the burger as well. Size of the burger was decent. I think overall I still prefer my In-n-Out back home! Crispy Spicy Chicken Sandwich: I also wanted to try something else besides a burger, so I opted for their chicken sandwich. It actually had a nice crisp on the chicken, and good flavor too. Here's the thing.. you've got to go into a restaurant with proper expectations. My expectations were properly set and I loved what I got. Earlier in the day, I ran a 31 mile trail run. So - I wanted nothing else besides greasy, fatty, and tasty junk food. The double burger was money. Fries were solid. I was a little disappointed in the shakes. Didn't seem like a ton of flavor - mostly just vanilla ice cream with a little food coloring, lol. The ice cream machine broke right after my car went through the drive through. Every time we drive to Olympic National Lark we saw this huge packed drive thru and did not know what this place was. Today on our drive to ONP we slowed down and noticed this place was called Frugals and they had some apparently award winning burgers and milkshakes. Since this place is open until 11pm we decided to pickup stuff to eat from this place on our way back from ONP. At 9:30pm there was still a decent line in front of us and it took us about 20mins to place our order. We ordered the A1 burger (special of the month), garden burger, french fries, cheese curds and the fry sauce. We also ordered the oreo milkshake which was okay nothing great. Honestly I felt it was a little powdery but that could be the crushed oreo. The cheese curds and french fries tasted good. The burgers - not so great. The garden burger was okay and the only reason I could eat it was thanks to the fry sauce i purchased. The A1 burger was disappointing. They definitely forgot to put the A1 sauce itself in the burger. Even my husband ended up adding the fry sauce to his burger to add some flavors. The fry sauce is good - typical mayo, ketchup maybe little mustard blend sauce. It definitely elevates the flavors of any dish. Overall I dont know what the hype about this place is about but glad we tried and will skip next time. If you check in to Yelp you get 1 medium fries for free per car. The Swiss Mushroom Burger was to die for! If you find yourself here I highly recommend the cheese curds as a fun side to try. This was our last stop for food before heading home for our roadtrip across the Olympic peninsula and it did not disappoint. Frugals has always had delicious food for a very reasonable price. It's not fancy, but it doesn't need to be. I had a Yelp check-in offer for a free medium fries, and dealing with that distracted me and I forgot to say extra onions. When I got up to the window, I told them that I realized my burger was probably already ready, but on the off chance it wasn't, could they please put extra onions on it. They said that it was already ready, but that they could put the onions on it anyway. I told them that I hated to bother them with that so never mind, but they said that it wasn't a problem.
