Stopped at Dairy Queen in Lampasas and had one of the most frustrating ordering experiences I've had in a while. I ordered four steak finger baskets with a side of gravy and a couple of waters and was charged $0.75 per water. Then I find out that if I had ordered the combo, it would have only been $0.53 more and I would have gotten more food. I didn't want fries or a soda, yet I'm basically punished for ordering less. This pricing makes no sense and feels like a complete rip-off. Definitely not worth it. read more

Mmm... DQ! After an arduous hike over at Colorado Bend, we knew exactly what we were in the mood for: "Grill and Chill!" We weren't the only ones because the parking lot was to capacity when we arrived. Thankfully they have a large, spacious, and clean lobby. We ordered our hot food and admittedly it did take awhile to get served... turns out they were having drive-thru folks pull through and park to wait for their hot food orders to keep up with customers just ordering ice cream products, thus part of why the parking lot was so full. But anyway, the hot food was HOT when it came out and we happily snarfed it all down, then ordered a blizzard after. Got the seasonal peppermint hot cocoa. Sooo freakin' tasty. I will say the toilets in this joint are more like water closets, LOL. Tiny! That's fine for a tiny fella like me but a larger person would probably feel pretty claustrophobic in there. I don't understand why this DQ has such a bad rating. The service here is amazing. The team we met cared so much for us as we passed through this town. The food amazing. You can't expect anything less from DQ. The restraunt was cleaned and in order. The only down fall is that the restroom is so tiny. Haven't been to a DQ in decades but where else can you go in Lampasas? I was pleasantly surprised with the taco salad. The shell was so fresh and crunchy. The salad to crunchy shell ratio was perfect. I usually don't like the shell bottom but the side shell was crispy and often broke with a perfect hollow to fork the taco salad in. This location needs a complete overhaul. We were dining in and our orders were messed up, twice. They forgot my drink, forgot the cheese on my burger. Burger tasted like a frozen patty that wasn't cooked all the way. We ordered peanut buster parfait and a Carmel sundae. Staff forgot. They finally came out to ask if we wanted it to now (we were done eating) or later. We requested it now. 25 minutes later they finally made them. The Peanut buster was inedible. This Dairy Queen needs a major make over. The worst I have ever been to. Lampasas is pretty much a good stopping point when we travel to DFW. We made a stop on our way to and then on our way back home and well needless to say we will either find somewhere else to eat or find another Dairy Queen along the way. During both are dine in, we had orders brought to us that were not ours. First stop our cashier seemed to be bothered just doing her job. Second stop was better, however had a fried hair in my food. The lamest thing was, they didn't include the very small cup of gravy in the remake order which I assumed it was because I didn't include the gravy that was in the first order. This was the worst experience at a Dairy Queen I've ever had. We ordered in the drive-through when we pull up to the window they give us two cokes. We ordered a Sprite and Dr Pepper. We tell them and they give us the right drinks . They then made us pull around and wait 20 minutes for our food. They bring out our order and bring out two orders of steak fingers. We specifically asked for chicken fingers?? We also requested the texas sauce and country gravy. They bring out both of them with ranch? I'm not sure if these people are illiterate or why they couldn't get any of our order right or anything. So my husband and I thought we would go here to dairy queen to have a good burger for lunch yesterday on 6/26/24. Boy where we wrong. First of all I order a bacon cheese burger. Had to send it back because they for got to put the bacon on my burger. Then my husband order a double meat buster burger, and the patties were cold and hard.And when I told the lady that took our order the shift leader ( Rhonda) she said the patties were fresh.But after my husband kept telling her that they not fresh because they were hard around the edges. She finally admitted they were not fresh patties. So then sent his burger back to have another made. But still his burger came back ( after waiting 20 minutes) with hard edges on it. My family and I were on the way back from out of town. We had to make a quick pit stop and decided that Dairy Queen would do just fine. 1. There are no changing tables. When in the frick are family restaurants going to realize that family places need to have changing tables? ARGH Minus a star. Not to mention that the restroom is tiny. 2. The wait....oh the wait.....I ordered a mini-blizzard and a large order of fries. About 10 to 15 minutes later, I get my blizzard. Add another 10 minutes for the fries. When I was 7, Dairy Queen was the shizzle. I was excited about corn dogs and dilly bars. Fast forward 35 years, my kids are about the pinnacle age of soft serve ecstasy, So when plowing thru Lampassas, this location catches my eye for a quick bite to eat before we get home. What happened to this place? Not only does the food take 20 minutes, bland, tough and overcooked, but the staff has GOT to be the biggest bunch of curmudgeons on the face of the earth. If you've ever eaten at a DQ before, you know that you cannot have your hopes set too high. As with every other visit to every other DQ, this one was what you'de expect... The service took longer then it should, the employees didn't give a crap about there job, the toilets are small and less than spotless. Again, exactly what you would expect. The plus side, if you'er cruising through and need food then the list is pretty short so DQ served a vital role for us. When we finally got the food it wasn't terrible and the large drinks were appreciated. Lampasas Dairy Queen, order 4 meal, get 3 meal in about 15 minutes, order was missing a meal, waited 35 more minutes for a chicken sandwich that we still didn't get, meanwhile other food getting cold as it was take out. We visited this DQ on our way out of Austin and then back again on our return trip. We did not look at yelp on the way outbound, but did on our return. I really don't have much recollection of our first visit other than it was typical DQ food. I was concerned about the wait when I read yelp on the way back, though, so I timed the drive through. It took two minutes to get to the place where we could order (not bad) and when we pulled to the window after ordering it took four minutes before anyone appeared with our order. Generally, someone will acknowledge you and then go away and that did not happen here. This wait seemed a little long, but hey it's a DQ in a rural town. My wife and I went to this dairy queen last week. They were super slow and the employees we saw inside just didn't have any urgency at all, we were at the drive through. They all moved like they were sleep walking even though there were quite a few people waiting. You would think when they have a line the employees would try to pick up their pace a little.
