This is a familiar restaurant in Herndon by now having been in this location for years. The service was great and food was to be expected. The reason for the 4/5 stars is the Dairy Queen rewards are not taken at this location. The Dairy Queen rewards program is very confusing with stores opting not to participate diminishing the value of the program. However, they do take the coupons in the app if you provide the digit code that corresponds. The staff was sort of helpful/knowledgeable of the way the app worked. Also, this location doesn't sell the entire Dairy Queen menu, which to me is fine since it has all the sweet treats! read more

Friendly location in old town Herndon. I've always appreciated the kind employees. This is right off and the W&OD trail. It's fun to get a ice cream treat, in the middle of a bike ride. They planned this one well. Whether on bike or car plenty of parking. I like how laid back this one is. It's not burgeoning with loads of people. The seats and tables aren't fancy, but they serve their purpose. Todays Blizzard was tasty. It's a small store, but it can be a morale boost. I'll probably be here later this week. read more

Big sticker on front door advertising Fruit Blended Smoothies - walked in and asked what flavors they have as I didn't see anything on their wall menu and was told they don't do smoothies. Ummm, then maybe take the advertisement off your door? Also ordered a mini blizzard - got charged for a medium - my bad, didn't realize it until I looked at my receipt after we got home. I was thinking about Chili dogs all day today - not sure why - but I've not had one in a long time. So I started thinking about where I could find one in the Herndon/Reston area... So on the way home, I stopped in at the Dairy Queen which is on the edge of Old Town Herndon. It was about 5:30 pm or so and there were two other customers in front of me getting ice cream. Strange about this DQ - they have a VERY limited set of food offerings - compared for example to the DQ in Manassas. Here - you basically had a choice between Hot dogs, Chili dogs, a BBQ sandwich, and ice creams. No French fries. Bagged potato chips only. Whereas the DQ location in Manassas offers burgers, chicken sandwiches, french fries, etc. I ordered the "Double Dog Combo," basically two Chili dogs and a beverage. I opted for Diet Coke. Condiments are very limited beyond the Chili and cheese they put on the dogs for you: ketchup, mustard, etc. I'd like to add chopped onions, jalapenos, etc. Having said all that, the dogs were tasty. They were served on fresh, steamed buns. I added a bit of mustard to them and wolfed them down in no time flat! read more

We have visited this location a few times; each time I walked away thinking that the location was not up to the cleanliness and health standards that I prefer. This is now significantly worse during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. You are risking your health and safety by visiting this location. **DO NOT TAKE THE CHANCE** Our last visit was on a Sunday afternoon at around 2:00 PM. When my wife and I approached the door, there was a man standing directly in front of the store smoking a cigarette. As we got closer we noticed he had a Dairy Queen uniform on. He was a middle aged man and may have been the manager or franchisee. As soon as we entered and started our order, the gentleman finished his cigarette and walked in, went behind the counter and immediately grabbed a cup to start making our blizzard. No hand-washing, no sanitizer, no gloves....nothing. Straight from cigarette, to outside door handle, to our food. I asked him to please wash his hands, since he was just outside smoking and my wife is pregnant. He obliged, by turning the water on and running the tips of his fingers under the stream of water for approximately ONE SECOND. No soap, no scrubbing, no singing Happy Birthday twice, no gloves....nothing. Making it even worse, he dried his wet hands on a towel with visible stains, that should probably have been discarded in 2019. He then went directly back to the same cup he was using previously. At that point we told him, "No thank you, we changed our minds," and promptly left. Do not visit this location if safety and cleanliness are a priority to you during COVID-19 and in general. People hating on this Dairy Queen need to chill (pun intended). This is a location of Dairy Queen and most of the flaws that other reviewers cite are things they do not like about Dairy Queen. This location serves the things that Dairy Queen does including Blizzards, Peanut Buster Parfaits, dipped cones and sundaes. It's a bit lightly staffed (but what isn't these days?) but I've never had to wait too, too long. If you like Dairy Queen you will like this location. I am a Herndon resident, go downtown often, and I will look to find other ice cream options. I was second in line. The older worker behind the counter asked me what I want. I showed him the Dairy Queen app that had discounted dipped cones. He made the cone and handed it to me before I paid. When it's my turn to pay, he subsequently tells me they don't take the app coupons, so I'm stuck with a dripping cone that is 4x the price I expected and showed before buying. We specifically came to Dairy Queen instead of other stores that day because of the coupon. He didn't offer to discount, try to take the code in app for restaurants that don't have scanner, etc. Instead he turned around and walked off once the credit card screen popped up, and I'm stuck with a melting ice cream cone that's 4x more than it should been. I love Dairy Queen - however this one needs some help. I ordered a chocolate chocolate dipped - took my bite and it was vanilla with chocolate dip. I told them I ordered chocolate ice cream in chocolate dip. They said "SORRY" and told me they just assumed it was vanilla. Didn't fix it and basically ignored me. Young kids need to learn to LISTEN and have customer service. They SHOULD have apologized for not listening and replaced it with what I ordered and asked for. Being ignored is NOT good. read more

Came in here on a Monday evening around 6:15pm. Waited in line for 35 mins to order. 2 workers and they both are working the cashier and making the ice creams/shakes etc. It would be great if one person covers the cash register and 2 people make the ice creams/shakes. This way the line wouldn't be this long. Many people kept coming in and that's just sad the customers and line isn't being managed properly. read more

My wife and I try to watch our calories so we are big fans of your fudge and orange cream bars. We purchased 2 boxes that we ice covered. We ate a few of the bars but ended up throwing the rest away. This is a smaller store so we figured they did not sell many of these bars this time of year and vowed not to buy anything else at this location. We we out shopping and found another DQ location in Chantilly, Virginia. We purchased 3 boxes and were pleased that they were $6.99 per box versus $8.99 at the Herndon location. When we opened the boxes and had a bar, they were more frosty and freezer burned than the others. We contacted the DQ Headquarters and after 2 months, still have not heard back from them. Forget DQ, they obviously do not care about quality control or their customers. read more

For the two guys that were working here on the night we showed up, good job! They were pumping out blizzards and dipped cones left and right. Although there was a line, we moved pretty quickly. The store itself is a little cramped and kind of messy, but we never stay inside to eat our ice cream. I had inquired about the Nutella Blizzard hoping it would be offered here, but alas, no such luck. Instead, we ordered the S'mores and Oreo Blizzards. Even though there was no nutella, our two blizzards were deliciously filling. I've never been unsatisfied with a DQ blizzard. If you come on the weekend, parking can be a challenge because street parking and the lots are filled and there's still a good amount of people trolling for open spots. read more

My husband and I love Dairy Queen. BUT. This is not the typical Dairy Queen. I ordered a cherry dipped cone. There was no cherry taste to the cherry dip. I took it back and they said they were out of cherry dip and made what I tasted and they gave me a plain cone( I paid for a dipped cone). My regular cone tasted like watered down ice cream. More water than cream. My husband ordered the caramel cannon ball blizzard. The ice cream was so watered down, he could not finish it. So sad! Went in for a blizzard Sunday before Memorial Day and was discouraged by the long line that snaked around the store. After a moment of indecision I opted to wait it out and stepped in line. I must say that the Dairy Queen workers kept up a good pace and It wasn't long before I had my blizzard. Then these two female employees came into the store and proceeded to do nothing except for be rude, loud, and obnoxious. The shorter of the two girls was the worst of them. This location is conveniently located downtown. The Julius drinks I've ordered have been great, but the Blizzards are a huge letdown. I went in for a free small blizzard on National Ice Cream day and the person I'm guessing is the owner was incredibly rude. My blizzard was mostly melted and barely had anything in it. I provided the code for the free blizzard and I was asked to pay tax. Haven't had to do that before, but whatever, it was 36 cents. When I gave my card to pay the owner muttered it would cost him more to run the card and threw it back at me and sarcastically told me to have a nice day. Probably shouldn't own a franchise if you don't like to follow corporate policies, and don't take it out on the patrons. read more

Wouldn't recommend this location. Just 2 young disgruntled females who get hella tight with you if they didn't hear you right or made a mistake and want them to redo it. This DQ is in an excellent location, right in the heart of Herndon & next to the Friday Night Live events that are put on during the summer time. I do love DQ's blizzards, but I usually like to get them to go since they blast the AC and I get cold very easily and it's a small store which can get crowded very quickly. From what I've seen just about every DQ has the same menu, so there are no new or surprise menu items, unless they're seasonal. Overall it's a good place to get ice cream for yourself and others while in down town Herndon. read more

I ate a soft chocolate ice cream there in the evening on 7/24/19 and experienced diarrhea and unpleasant GI symptoms the next day. Went here during the Herndon Fest. While I'm certain it was busier than usual (if that says anything about the quality), there were only some people sitting and cooling off, and a few ordering at the counter when we entered. When I ordered, they only had a couple of orders to fill, so it was not astronomically busy or frantic behind the counter. There were also 5+ staff members and some guys who looked like they were management standing around back there. So I order a chocolate covered strawberry blizzard. The guy at the register notes my order and passes it to one of the 4 behind him waiting to fill orders. Someone comes out minutes later and hands me a chocolate covered PRETZEL blizzard. Confused, I tell him this isn't my order (thinking it was for someone else). Again, I repeat my order to him AND the original guy who took my order, who again...repeats my order to the same guy who has heard my order now at least two times. The same guy comes out minutes later with a strawberry looking blizzard, and happy to be on our way, my husband and I leave. When I am about halfway down the block, I realize this is a strawberry CHEESECAKE blizzard. Frustrated and not wanting to walk all way back to (probably) receive a third incorrect order (and I'm 9 months pregnant btw), I decide to just eat it even though I don't really like the gross cheesecake bits. So, to recap: - Ordered a chocolate covered strawberry blizzard - Received chocolate covered pretzel - Reiterated order - Received strawberry cheesecake blizzard *facepalm* How many staff members does it take to correctly fill one blizzard order? I am not sure if this privately owned or not but this DQ located in Herndon is a disgrace to the DQ name... Let's start with I orderd a small chocolate malted that was runny and looked more like semi frozen chocolate milk then a thick malt... The large strawberry milk shake was thick like the malt should have been but left a nasty after taste... I also ordered 2 blizzards and when the lone female worker, handed them to me, they appeared to be like the blizzards I remember DQ to be famous for, however 5 mins after leaving the store they both started to melt..And last I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich, When I heard the microwave beeped, I should know that was the beginning to the end...The female worker heated up the grilled chicken sandwich up in the microwave and the bread was so soggy you need a fork to eat it and let's not mention that the chicken wasn't not even done all the way... So I would rather take a road trip to hell, then to ever eat at this sorry excuse for a DQ. AND THEY! DONT take points either! read more
