The food came out very fast methinks, faster than I had counted on. Faster than you can say the store name in a Southern accent, at any rate. The food was decent, nothing exceptional. Then again, I had a minor cold, nose was stuffy, so I might have missed out on the taste aspect. Lobster Roll, props for presentation and no separate butter on side. It was good, and bread was prepared and lightly-toasted to my satisfaction. The lobster bits were leaning towards the generous side; could have used a bit more salt and seasoning though. Lobster Mac was along the same lines. Buttery enough to my appreciation, but Mac with lobster bits was on the bland side. However, portions were good. I will rate up one star for location, convenience, helpful cashier-lady that helped point me in the right direction, and the speed at which my order was ready. This was dine-in and honestly my food was ready in two minutes tops. That's pretty darn fast for a lobster place. Best lobster rolls I've had in the area! Stopped by for a quick dinner, and I have to say I was impressed! The rolls use quality claw meat and start at $20 but the specials are usually $23-25 plus tax and you get a lobster roll, cup of soup with amazing oyster crackers, and a 'Maine root.' fountain soda. Separately that is about $29. Last week I had the Lobster BLT and a cup of Lobster Bisque with extra lobster. Honestly, the Lobster Bisque was a bit watery compared to Legal or Ford's bisques. However, it was tasty and for a few dollars more you could add a few ounces of lobster. Today I had the Original and a cup of clam chowder that was amazing with plenty of chewy clam bits! The sandwich was claw meat, a little Mayo, and their signature spices on a toasted and buttered roll. They have 8 or 9 different sandwich options including one with warm butter for your fine folks from Connecticut or Savannah, GA. It wasn't very busy today and I was in and out in about 5 minutes. Last week my coworker and I went around dinner time and the turnaround for takeout was about 7-8 minutes. That is very reasonable but, honestly, I hope it stays busy enough to stay open. read more

Coming into this review, I have tried Luke's Lobster, which is known for selling something at a $30-$40 price point for only $15. The lobster rolls are generous and delicious, and the pickle is a great sell. They also sell other delightful options like the shrimp roll and soup. Mason's does it similar, but personally, they fall just short of Luke's. Unlike Luke's, which stays true to form without getting cute, Mason's does the opposite - they get cute. They try to put too much into their product and out of it comes something perhaps completely unnecessary and somewhat expensive. Yes, the rolls are good, and I like how they want you to really try their lobster meat, but unless you know that lobster meat does not come cheap, it feels like they are after your wallet, instead of you as a person. The food is good, and for a lobster roll I cannot complain (their Connecticut roll is great), but give me more for less. We ended up getting 5 lobster rolls (one for each of us), 4 fountain drinks, and an order of the lobster mac and cheese. It was fairly priced, as the lobster rolls were $15 each. Maybe just a tad bit smaller then others (although the others had a bit more lobster). I got the traditional lobster roll, cold with mayo. I prefer it over the warm with butter. And it was really good! The roll was perfectly toasted too. The food came out super fast. We really enjoyed the mac and cheese as well. It was warm, cheesy, and had crumbled Ritz crackers toasted on top. They also have lobster bisque, which I can hopefully try next time. While I was sad to see Red Velvet Cupcakery close, I was eager to try the next business to occupy its spot. For weeks, the sign on the door said that Mason's Famous Lobster Rolls was "coming soon". Well...it finally opened and we were pleased to see that the early reviews were good. One thing we couldn't help but notice was that there are hardly any spots to sit inside. Sure, they have a couple of tables outside but...who wants to sit outside when it is cold? (I ask rhetorically). With that in mind, we set out to try it on a Sunday in the late afternoon (between 3:30 and 4). When we got there, only one 2 top table was available. A party of 6 had put three 2 tops together, leaving only two extra ones available. One was already occupied, so I told my husband to grab the free one while I ordered our food. The man taking our order was very friendly and helpful. For starters, I got a cup of lobster bisque while my husband had a cup of New England clam chowder. I chose a Connecticut lobster roll for my main course, and my husband got a classic roll. To drink, we shared a bottle of Pellegrino water. All this cost $40.28. I was pleased to see a Connecticut roll on the menu as few places in the DMV offer it. For those who are unfamiliar with it, the Connecticut roll is dressed in melted butter. The classic roll is dressed in mayo. As for the food --- I liked the lobster bisque. It had a hint of sherry in it which I like as it doesn't overpower the bisque. Even though there was no sign of any lobster in it, the flavoring was good. My husband liked his clam chowder, saying it lived up to the standard New England style clam chowder. As for the rolls---both rolls had hardly any dressing on them. The lobster was clearly claw meat. Each roll comes with a dill pickle slice. In fact, when the rolls were brought to our table, we couldn't tell which was which by eyeballing them. On one of the rolls, there was a tiny bit of dressing poking out of the lobster pieces. Only by tasting it, could I tell it was a classic roll. One thing we did like---the rolls are New England style ones that are toasted. We both found our rolls to be too dry. While I understand that places don't want to serve their classic rolls drowning in mayo, there is a happy medium between under dressing them and overdressing them. A good Connecticut roll should have a good amount of melted butter and should be warm. It's a shame that wasn't the case here. We both agree that we've had far better lobster rolls which my husband said has spoiled us :) In fact, while we ate our rolls, I said to my husband that we should plan another trip to Boston so we can go to Neptune Oyster for their rolls. Still, in all fairness, considering what we paid for the meal, we knew we should have tempered our expectations. That said, if the rolls were properly dressed, they would have tasted much better. The amount of lobster in the roll was adequate, thus the rolls held up well while we ate them. While we were eating, another customer told the man at the register, that they need a bigger dining area (we agree). He said that most of their business is at weekday lunchtime and most people get their food to go. So...if you go and want to eat-in, know that if you go at standard meal times, you may not find a seat. It was served on a toasted split-top roll with warm butter, with a pickle spear. +Loyalty rewards program. -Very limited seating and poor ventilation. Your clothes will smell like grease after you take-out/dine here. -They use a convection toaster oven, similar to what you see at 7-Eleven's, to prepare the food. It also kind of reminds me of Subway when you see the employee(s) handle the little portion-controlled paper boats of lobster meat. -The pickle spear was a puny disappointment. I enjoyed Slapfish's pickle much more. -The lobster roll does not come with a side, and you have an option to pay $5 more for extra meat including the tail. -No fish products, just lobster and shrimp. I may give this place one more try, but Slapfish (Ashburn, VA) has definitely taken the lead in being my go-to for when I'm craving some good ol' lobster rolls.
