I went here specifically to get an Orange Julius, as it is one of the few locations they are still available in Pinellas County. Getting an Orange Julius was always a highlight of my 80s shopping mall experience, and I was a bit sad when they became so hard to find. While my drink was good, it is definitely different than the ones I enjoyed when I was younger. This was something I noticed several years ago before they closed all of the OJ mall locations. I had to wait at the drive thru even though no one was in front of me, but I didn't mind. I placed my order with a friendly cashier and once I rolled up to the window I didn't even have to ask her for a lid! Parfait was made very neat with visible fudge layers and the signature ice cream loop at the top. The last several times I have ordered from this location (in the last 6 months) The Blizzard ingredients are mixed only about 1/4 to half way down. Once you get about 1/4 way down all you have Is plain ice cream. (And sometimes it's not even the flavor of ice cream that the recipe calls for). Nothing mixed in. Nothing about this dairy queen disappointed me. When I write a review about fast food restaurants, you have to understand I'm not rating them against high end cuisine. It's not like if I was comparing On Swann and Dairy Queen I'd give Dairy Queen four stars. Instead, I'm comparing it against all my other fast food experience (which has broadened somewhat significantly since meeting my husband.) I still don't frequent fast food places that often, maybe once a month at most, but when I do I rate it based on service, cleanliness, and tastiness of food. The first thing I did when I got home was google is Dairy Queen ice cream really ice cream? I watched The Founder where it brought up how McDonald's milkshakes were made from powder packets and I wondered if Dairy Queen ice cream was the same. I discovered that it isn't powder, but technically it can't be called ice cream because of its percentage of buttermilk fat. As long as it isn't made from powder that is A-Ok with me. I wanted to walk into the Dairy Queen because since I'm not a diehard fast food fan, I had no idea what I wanted. The only reason we were there in the first place is my husband said he was going to start to eat healthy on Monday so I was letting him indulge himself the weekend before. I went with a Peanut Butter Parfait because I think I ordered that before - when I was in high school. It looked like it was a high school employee behind the counter. He was efficient at taking our order and bringing it out. Since we were there at the weird time of 3 p.m. on a Saturday there weren't that many people. This was lucky for us because there were only about five tables to begin with. This Dairy Queen was clearly made to be a grab and go location. However, when we left I noticed a sign that said, still open during renovation. I didn't notice any signs of construction, but maybe they are expanding? More likely that sign just never got taken down. The Peanut Butter Parfait was good. It has a solid amount of fudge and peanuts. It was very sweet and I wasn't jonesing for any more when I finished. I actually gave a huge portion of my soft serve to my husband just so I could get the fudge at the bottom. One of the things that is terrible, and great, is they list the calorie content next to the menu items. All their soft serve is basically a meal - think 500 calories plus. I almost wish they didn't show that. The tables were clean and the other clientele that were there seemed nice. They have at least one high chair, which we claimed. I had a nice experience here, which deserves four stars. read more

Normally I would give this DQ 5 stars, however, on our last visit we were told they were out of chocolate ice cream. Yes, you read that correctly. Dairy Queen, the ice cream shop, was out of chocolate ice cream. I was so surprised I responded "are you joking?" Unfortunately, it was true. Two big issues I have with this is (1) when your whole business is ice cream, how do you not have one of the two flavors you sell (and use to make blizzards, etc), and (2) if you are out of one of your two main ingredients, you should have huge signs indicating this in various places outside. We only found out after sitting in the long drive through line - and then there was no where to go. Even if we didn't order, we would have to sit there and wait for everyone in front of us to get their orders before we could leave. The lack of a sign was really worse than running out of one of their two main ingredients. I would have given them 1 star for this issue, but the staff was so nice and served us so quickly (with our non-chocolate items), and the ice cream tasted good (although not as good as chocolate would have been), I felt like they still deserved 3 stars. I will hesitate to go to this DQ in the future because I don't want to wait in line to only then find out they are out of chocolate ice cream. I am going to have to try Baskin Robbins down the road instead. read more

We had a great experience tonight! It took hardly any time at all to place our order and I'd say it only took about two minutes for the server to whip up three beautiful cones. Bobby & I had ours dipped in chocolate, but Christoph went for a classic cone. As you can see from the pictures, we were served by an ice cream artist. The guy must've had extensive training in some sort of soft serve boot camp. The only thing I wasn't liking was the steady stream of country music. I mean, I know this place is right down the street from the Round Up, but still. This is Oldsmar. Other than that, and the scant amount of seating, this Dairy Queen is pretty solid in my opinion. This location is close to our home. We don't go very often but have been there maybe a dozen times. The inside is clean, the tables are clean and the workers are always nice and respectful. The food is pretty good but their blizzards and moolatas are soooo very good! Trey are always freshly made and always exactly what we order. It's a great stop on a hot day to cool down. I have nothing to complain about; you kind of know what you're getting from a DQ I think! Dilly bars and Buster Bars were freezer burned on two occasions. These are the boxed treats you get from their freezer to enjoy at home. The Manager offered to replace on next visit when I called to let them know. We never got back to get them replaced. Soft serve ice cream there is hit or miss. Sometimes it's real creamy and among the best soft serve out there. Other times it's grainy and taste is weird. They often have kids working there that could care less and don't pay attention. They either give you something other than you asked for or they give a small portion. Sometimes I swear a small and medium look the same. When you are paying top dollar for an ice cream of your choice, it should be to your liking and expectations. We actually avoid going here now. It's a shame, but the management just doesn't seem to keep an eye on the product served and the customer service. This is not a place we can rely on for consistent, quality product and service. I normally love going to DQ but obviously with the situation we are currently going through with this pandemic eating out has become a lot harder for safety reasons. I decided to go get some ice cream today and when i went to go pay at the drive thru i saw two employees without their masks on. The masks were just hanging from their ears. Just wow. We have eaten at this location many times in the past, but today while going through the drive-thru the woman taking the order was incredibly rude to my wife. I had to ask her to back off. I don't know why this person was having such a miserable day, but if she can't stand the stress of retail perhaps she should quit. The girl working the drive through saw out dogs and offered us pups cups (which we took, but did not even think to ask for when going through the drive through).
