When I go to the Dairy Queen in Sanford, it feels like stepping back in time. It is one of those classic DQ locations where time seems to stand still, the old-school signage and building structure gives nostalgic vibes. This location only serves ice cream, no burgers or fries here. You order at the window, there's no indoor seating or a drive-thru but they do have a few benches outside if you want to enjoy your ice cream right there. If you go at night you may find a line but it moves quickly. My go to is a classic hot fudge sundae with strawberries. They also have shakes, cones, banana splits, you name it. The Sanford Dairy Queen is a staple in this town, honestly, you can't say you are from Sanford unless you've been to this location. The store has been in business since 1953 and still maintains the original iconic look and retro design motif. This store has no indoor seating and limited outdoor seating. You basically pull up, place your order in left-side window, and pick it up in the right-side window. The staff have always been friendly and usually hook me up with Flurry ingredients. Although I usually go for the Flurries, I like to switch it up to a waffle bowl, banana split, or my childhood favorite, a soft serve vanilla ice cream covered in chocolate dip; they even have ice cream for dogs with little bones in them. As spring sets in, you might notice lines forming at this store even near closing time, which is 10pm. Regardless, the staff do an awesome job here and I have never had to wait more then 10-15 when its busy, but for the most part, I can get in and out in a few minutes. If you are not from the area, know that there is an outdoor laundromat right across the street (Park Ave) from Dairy Queen, so you can pop in for a sweet treat while you're waiting for you clothes to dry. Also, behind Dairy Queen and across S. Oak Ave there is a Dentist office there incase you need routine maintenance after your Dairy Queen Visit, haha! All-in-all, this is great little Dairy Queen store that is a must see. Although this store doesn't have items you see at a much larger Dairy Queens, such as fast-food items and larger cakes for purchase, it does have a decent variety of flavors to choose from, a great selection of toppings and ingredients, and management routinely adds/removes specials to keep things looking fresh. read more

My wife and I driving from Daytona Beach to the Orlando airport were looking for a DQ on the way and struggling to find one convenient for us without going too far out of the way. A little at random, we selected this DQ in Sanford. It's a cool old school one with only outdoor ordering and seating. The people working here were super friendly and helpful. They had all your favorites including soft serve swirl which sometimes isn't available. We both got a small hot fudge sundae with peanuts. Service was quick and the sundaes yummy. Alright! I'm a softy for nostalgia and place delivered my memories, quality service, AND a luscious dessert for me, my husband, and best friend! You pull up and go straight to the window, greeted with a huge smile and even a couple nostalgic jokes--they have an OG 90s register, so I had a crack a joke and the girl just went along with it! They have the OG menu, but don't miss out on all the location specials menu located below the counter with illustrations included! I got the Brownie Sundae, and was recommended to sub chocolate syrup with hot fudge--THAT SHOULD BE ON THE MENU! SO DELICIOUS! My friend with us got the waffle cone sundae and it was a bit messy, but according to her, worth it all! Such a gem in Sanford. I love riding up here on my golf cart at night and getting ice cream. The waffle cones are homemade from scratch when you order they take a few minutes to cool down but not too bad. Are usually get anything with extra sprinkles on it, the staff is super friendly and the ice cream is super cold. This place is literally the best Dairy Queen there is. It's always a little busy but worth the wait!

The service here is slow, but this Dairy Queen location is my favorite of any I've been to because of it's charm, simplicity (just walk up and order, no indoor seating), and the best thing of all- the freshly made waffle cones. There never seems to be more than two (usually rather young) people working here, and they are very nice, but serving up everything while taking orders does take some time. I do appreciate that they're very clean and make sure everyone gets what they want the way they want it. On my last visit, I watched the kid behind the counter drop the banana he was about to use for a split (it was already partially peeled). He tossed it, washed his hands, changed gloves and grabbed a new one, which was something I truly appreciate. I will continue to visit this location for the simplest but most delicious order- a waffle cone with vanilla ice cream (or chocolate depending on my mood!) with rainbow sprinkles. Just as a side note, they don't do the waffle dip here, probably because it's harder to do with fresh cones, which I think is a fair trade off. So minus one star for the speed, but still rates highly because it's delicious, clean, and comforting! read more

Old time scream This DQ has been around for a while. I asked one the young ladies working there exactly how long but she just looked at me and said it's been here forever. I doubt if it's been around quite that long but it's obvious that the building has been around the block a few times and has a few tire tracks across it's back. I have heard that it's the second oldest DQ in all of Florida and just looking at the venerable building that's easy to believe, it is indeed showing it's age. That's fine with me, I like places that have manage to survive for a long time and I think the the rather worn appearance gives this little DQ character. I love the old signs and anachronistic exterior. There's no place to sit inside, just a few crummy tables outside and most of the people get the treats to go or just eat in their cars. All the usual DQ stuff is here, lots of blizzards, peanut buster parfaits and of course dipped cones. I've been here about a half a dozen times and every time I received exactly what I expected. DQ's are consistent if nothing else. Even though the lines can be long at times the staff knows what they are doing and keeps everything moving along. It's fun to watch just one blizzard after another coming out of the small windows while you devour your own treat. Sure it's old, kind of crummy looking, gets crowded and doesn't really have many places to sit. None of that matters. This place still makes some of the coolest summer treats that can be found anywhere. It's been doing it forever and probably will keep doing it until forever finally comes. read more

Been here a few times and just recently i came to get two of there pumpkin pie blizzards,first of i agree service here is slow and the parking is to small for the amount of people that come here also the location looks so old like it could be run down by a hurricane any day. Back to the service, the staff is nice but only two windows to take and give orders and about 5 or 6 people in there like a can of sardines because the building is so small and old. I order two pumpkin pie blizzards. .they barely tasted like pumpkin and they put so much in a cup when u take the lid off it came out and went all over the place including my clothes. The flavor of the pumpkin pie blizzard was not worth getting it and waiting made it not even more worth waiting ,but the worse part is how they are stuffing so much in to this cups that people are getting stick and creating a mess. Probably won't be back for a while, i was very disappointed with my last visit and every time i come service is slow because they can't handle the business they do. My advice...shut this location down and rebuilt a bigger location with a order here window (s) and pick up here windows, also faster service. This place has gone downhill over the years. Recent visit in 12/18/22 and order 2 medium pecan Turtle blizzards which I have ordered many times in the past. First off clerk at window was rude and brusque. When I asked to see cup size she told me to look at the sign. Ok. Get my blizzard and she doesn't flip them. One because one is a big sloppy mess hanging over the side. She pushes them out the window and immediately shuts window and goes back to her phone. I have to clean off the running ice cream, chocolate on outside of cup before 8 can even carry them.. Ok. Get back to car and the blizzard is basically whipped vanilla soft serve with PECAN DUST and à smear of magic shell on the cup. Completely tasteless and this was $11 bucks for 2. Complete waste of money. Next time I will drive to culver's and a good custard or by ice ream from Publix. Complete rip off and rude service. read more

I love this Dairy Queen! Fresh-made waffle cones really make this place stand out. Also, the owner and employees are all extremely friendly. This is an "ice cream only" location. They don't serve food. This free-standing Dairy Queen is in a slightly sketchy looking spot in Sanford. However, I've been many times and never felt unsafe. The landscaping has recently been updated, and there's a lovely spot to sit and eat your ice cream. The employees are always very friendly and seem happy to be there. The ice cream is delicious, and they hand mix in whatever flavors you want. I enjoy getting chocolate ice cream mixed with peanut butter in a fresh made waffle cone. The waffle cones are amazing. They take fresh batter and pour it onto a waffle iron and make super fresh cone for each order. This does make the ice cream take a bit longer than some other places, but its totally worth it. The fresh waffle cone is amazing. There's usually a line, but they move through it pretty quick. There is a "parking lot" of sorts- kind of a line of spaces around the perimeter of the property. However, I've always been able to get a spot without much trouble. Overall, prices are reasonable, the ice cream is delicious, and you're supporting a small-business owner. This is a unique Dairy Queen and is hands down the best DQ I've ever been to. This place is not "Hot Eats, Cool Treats" but rather it is "Cool Treats, Cool Treats." They are a DQ but have a unique selection of Blizzard Flavors that you won't find anywhere else. I live and die by the Waffle Crisp blizzard which consists of fresh waffle cone, hard shell chocolate, and caramel. They make their waffles cones fresh and to order. My boyfriend ordered a cotton candy flavor blizzard but they literally mixed actual cotton candy with vanilla ice cream. This Dairy Queen is probably built in the early 50's and has not changed. It was pretty busy on the night we went. Service was fast and the treat was cold and tasty.
