This was our first time visiting Lee's. Churches was down the street, but we chose to do Lee's as a new experience. The regular chicken, potato wedges, and biscuits were hot and fresh. The spicy was old and dry. We tried the spicy wings and I really wanted to love them. They were not spicy at all and half were fresh and half were dried out. They remodeled this place and I had a coupon. The coupon was a couple days past expiration and they wouldn't let me use it. I get it... but if you want business I would think they would let me use the coupon. The kid behind the counter was strange had piercings in his face kind of odd and spooky. I actually worked at this Churches back in the 1980s. No way would my boss let me come to work like that. But times have changed. Anyway I didn't buy anything I left and went to Churches. I went here and got the 4pc fried chicken and 6pc spicy wings. Both were delicious and tasted fresh. The classic fried chicken came out hot, with a tender inside and crispy coating. The spicy wings were my personal favorite though. They weren't overly spicy, which was good for me since I have a low spice tolerance. The coating was very crispy and the chicken itself was juicy. Aside from the spiciness, the chicken had a pleasant savory flavor that wasn't present in their classic fried chicken. I will also note that the biscuits were fresh, soft and buttery and the potato wedges were crispy and flavorful. I can't really comment on the service since I went through the drive through. Love this restaurant! The only reason that they aren't getting 5 stars is due to the fact that they typically run out of chicken. Which should definitely attest to their deliciousness! Do yourself a favor and don't eat here. They have attitude and just don't care. I waited over 25 mins for chicken after they told me 9 mins. When I asked about my food I got immediate ATTITUDE! Wow and then I got shorted 2 pieces of chicken. Sides were 1/3rd full, Sad! Today I cross Lee's off my list of food options. I work to hard for my money to be that disappointed. While waiting on my food I couldn't help buy notice that every table had a layer of grease on it! Try using some cleaning solution in dinning area. The property is also in need of attention. I'm always down to find a good fast-food chicken spot. My fav's are Chick-Fil-A, KFC, and Raising Canes. However, I'm about to add a fourth to my list and their name is Lee's Famous Recipe Kitchen! Each time I drive by, the drive thru is busy so I figured it has to be good..right?! So I finally add myself to the busy drive-thru cluster, and I can't wait to go back. I ordered the 2 piece meal (breast and wing) along with the server's recommended favorites of coleslaw and baked beans. My order came out to about $7.50. The chicken was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside (and this was after sitting in the bag for about 15-20 min, so I can image how good it would be fresh.) The baked beans were really good and the coleslaw as well. My thinking is, if your coleslaw is good then you're pretty legit in my eyes. I wish the portions of the sides were larger and the wing was bigger, but I'm probably just nit-picking at this point :) Did I mention that my meal came with a biscuit and they even put packets of honey in my bag?! I also asked for their BBQ sauce and their Honey Mustard...both of which tasted good and I thoroughly enjoyed everything. YUM!! The chicken was good and crispy, though I wish I got to try the spicy variety (they were unfortunately out when I went). The mac and cheese was underseasoned to my taste, but the coleslaw was quite good (it's oniony which I like, but many people might not). The biscuit was fluffy, not dry or hard at all. I wasnt a big fan of the bbq sauce, i like super sweet but this had a twang spice to it. The restaurant was in middle of Sanford. Lee's is by far my go to place for fried chicken. If I am in Sanford it's hard for me to pass here without stopping to eat or getting me some wings for later. The staff whether it be the drive through or inside is always friendly and gets the orders out quickly. First time in years have i eat Lee's famous chicken. While driving in Sandford, Fl, a small town recognized for the polarizing racially charged tragedy; killing of treyvon Martin. It isn't surprising to find one of few left in business. Less than 200 in 13 states. This was a great find for me. My company last year used Lee's to cater for our end of quarter meals - every quarter after that they had them come in. They always catered in the chicken strips, potatoes & gravy, the corn, and the potato wedges. Along with biscuits. I absolutely always looked forward to those days because we'd all eat our fill, get into a delightful sweet food coma & I'd be so full & happy! Fast forward to now. I took my husband here because I've ranted & raves on how good the food was - we always ended up not going because it's kinda out of our way. I love this place & as long as I live here & I eat carbs this will always be my favorite cheat meal. My go to has always been Publix, but sometimes you want something different & KFC does not cut it. I always get the chicken strips, they are always fresh, the potatoes are from a box & (but the gravy makes it soooo good! Their BBQ sauce is exactly what I love - not too sweet & just right.
