I also enjoy that it is mainly (wholly?) staffed by teenagers working their behinds off, especially when the kids' baseball teams come in. Two choices for ordering, walk up window and drive through. I give them a 3.5 I didn't dislike them. I liked the waffle bowl it was really good. Their portions are big, but you pay more money. I think their prices are a little more expensive than reasonable. It was on our way back from MTB trails, and I did see they have quite a lot of vegan option, so we went to get some ice cream after our ride. It was quite confusing where to park, where to enter the line for ordering, but we figured it out. There weren't a lot of people when we went, but it does look like it can be very busy. I ordered a small vegan soft serve in a waffle cone, but to my surprise got charged $10 for a medium one. My husband got a small twist. These are the biggest size ice cream I've ever seen... as their sign says, lol They were delicious, and it was hard to notice that they were vegan. Very creamy. The only thing I don't like is the price. For $10, I can get a bowl at Chipotle, not ice cream... Nevertheless, the best vegan soft serve I've had. They also have plenty of other items that could be made using the vegan soft serve plus around 10 different vegan ice cream flavors, so there is plenty to choose from. read more

I grew up coming here and have the best memories riding our bikes and hanging out eating ice cream before riding home. These days, I don't recommend hanging out there. Not unless you want to be staring into the cars of the folks in the drive thru. Especially if you have small children. The sitting area is surrounded by the drive thru lanes. I'd be worried of my toddlers running into traffic. The days of enjoying your ice cream here are done, say hello to the orange cones and cars right up close. We will be driving to get our ice cream from the creamy freeze not far from here. In addition to this the prices are very high, and the staff was pretty rude. They missed 2 out of the 4 items we ordered. We sat there for 20 min before we asked and determined that they isn't hear us order the adult ice cream, they only heard the kids orders. We had to make a second payment for the remainder of our order that they didn't charge us for the first time. That isn't even my main complaint though. It's the traffic cones. Thankfully we have had several great visits this summer but yesterday's was a huge disappointment. The young man helping us at the drive through window was actually not a help at all. It's near the end of season so I understand some things will be out of stock. Since I cannot tolerate dairy or soy, I was bummed that the vanilla oat based soft serve was not available (and kinda grossed out when the kid said it was it was just a mix that they add water too). I inquired about a flurry with a hard scoop ice cream and was told that it couldn't be done. Sigh. I asked about the birthday flavor oat based ice cream and he shrugged and said that folks like it so it must be ok. I should have just gotten the Guernsey black cherry but I live by their store in Novi - I woulda gone to them if I wanted that. I sadly ordered the birthday cake ice cream and it was pretty bad. First it was bright blue. Second, I have no idea what that base flavor was but it had an odd taste. Third, the best part was the topping I added, which sadly didn't really go with the ice cream flavor but at least it was tasty. I am a gal who loves ice cream and this was one of the times I did not finish my ice cream. Heck, I was tempted to just pitch it after two bites but managed to force a few more bites down. We had a little sticker shock too. While the single scoop servings are huge, the price was too. I would much rather a smaller scoop and lower price. Can't recall what hubby ordered (single scoop with two toppings maybe) but our ice cream came to over $20. For that price, we can definitely stay closer to home and go to Milkster where I can order an almond based ice cream and put on any toppings that won't clash. The problem was that the ice cream tasted the same or worse compared to other ice cream shops in the area. They are way overpriced compared to other local ice cream shops. So I was craving ice cream, and particularly wanted soft serve. So we ended up at Dairy twist because they have vegan soft serve. I ordered vanilla with sprinkles in a size small. I don't know if was a small because it was a ton of ice cream. I will say the vegan soft serve does have a soy after taste to me, so if you like soy then it's for you. I saw on the menu soy based or oat milk based, I don't know if you can specify which kind, but I would get oat milk next time. We also order a chocolate vegan flurry with snickers, which was enjoyed. The total came to about $12.00 for a small cup and a medium flurry. Also I don't know if they still have solid vegan ice cream like I've seen other yelpers have posted. I would like to try those. The ice cream is usually really good. The staff consistently messes up my order. Today I ordered a mint ice cream flurry with Oreos. I received a vanilla ice cream with mint (no Oreos) I had tipped the staff $8 on a $23 order... I brought the order to the window and told them this wasn't what I ordered. They refused to correct my order. Lessons learned. Next time I'll be going to creamy freeze. Others should review their entire order before they leaving a tip here. Update: No need to give me a "gift card for a free flurry of my choice". I walked the order right up to window and asked them to correct it as this wasn't what I ordered. Here's why: + the soft serve! Very good and always available(unlike McDonald's). What's even better...adding sprinkles or fruity pebbles + the portions! Generous soft serve portions. Small here is a medium everywhere else. Medium here is a XL everywhere else. A Large can feed a family of 4. My first visit I was by myself and almost ordered a Large. The young lady behind the counter advised me not to. The medium was humongous! (See pic with the fruity pebble toppings). + dog friendly! Treat your dog with a small bowl of soft serve and doggie treat(see pic). + vegan friendly. They looked ridiculous and hard to see in. When I made a joke, they were trying to sound upbeat but you could tell they weren't really enjoying them. I felt terrible as they were working hard with long lines, a smile on their face and excellent service. The demeaning outfits didn't need to be an addition. Yum ice cream!!!! This is the best kept secret in Oakland County. First off this place has a drive through! So you can be lazy and not get out of the car. But they also have a large parking lot and a covered area with tables and benches to enjoy your delicious ice cream. Their hard ice cream is Guernesy, which people rave about....I've yet to try it. But they have a ton of flavors. Soft serve is your traditional chocolate, vanilla and twist but they also have custard and reasy for it....non-dairy ice cream! Yes my lactose intolerant friends, they have ice cream for you, several options too, soy, cashew and oat milk...eat your heart out. One more fantastic thing, they have GLUTEN FREE CONES!!!! Its been years since I was able to eat a cone, this was amazing!!! If flurries are your thing, they have tons of options and they are willing to mix and match to make whatever you want. Best hard scoop ice cream and so many flavors to choose from. What ever goodies you put in your Flurries (ie "Blizzard" at DQ), they don't skimp on how mush the put in. Even the chili dogs are great and fries with sea salt are addicting. Nothing bad here. Although prices are a bit higher than other places (eg Dairy Queen), you get a lot and the quality is outstanding. If you prefer treats made with soft serve, it comes in regular , frozen custard, or vegan. And yes, they have hard scoop vegan too. TIP: a single ice cream is 6 scoops of ice cream. You can ask for it split (eg half Moose Tracks , half Salted Carmen Pretzel) or you can have half put in a waffle cone for example and half in a to-go cup. Just ask the employees--they are super nice and will be sure you get what you want. They have tasted all the ice creams so they can tell you about all of them. During COVID social distancing, they have been open for drive through only. Although the line gets long and wraps around the building, the employees have a great system to keep everything moving quickly. This is hands down my favorite ice cream shop in Michigan... everything is delicious. The staff is so kind and helpful. You can walk up and order or they have a drive-thru. Will never go back. I went there tonight, drive thru line wasn't bad at all. Placed my order. I proceeded to wait for 30 minutes after my order was placed. I kept watching people who arrived after me receive their orders and drive off while i was still waiting. After the 30 minute waiting period i went up and asked for a refund. I was told they had a lot of new trainees, however that isnt the issue when others were receiving their orders in a timely fashion and i still waited, for one measly medium flurry....... I went classic with a vegan vanilla chocolate twist with some strawberries and crushed nuts in a cup. It was so creamy and delicious! The strawberries were in a syrup and a little sweet so I probably wouldn't get those next time. The menu was extensive - so many vegan and non-vegan options. The Dairy Twist is a local classic. When I was a kid, I played baseball around the corner from this place and after all the games, win or lose, we headed out there as a team to wind down on some soft serve. Today, 25 years later, kids and baseball teams are still doing the same thing. It's not much different than it was back then either. An outdoor-only ice cream stand that serves soft serve, shakes and sundaes. It's not polished or 'new', but it's clean and they've got the goods. The place is plastered with ice cream ads from the 80's and has a slightly 'back in the day' feeling. They recently added a drive thru window that (I hear) serves coffee and doughnuts in the mornings to hungy commuters. They also have the typical ice-cream-joint-food such as hot dogs and hamburgers. A few tables scatter the front, but most people just stand around or sit on the timbers the line the flower beds. A great local place to support and visit with family and pals. read more

I love this local Ice Cream spot. They use local Guernsey milk so you know it's good! You can get just about anything here and leave happy. As an example of that I ordered the special flaming hot Cheetos rolled soft serve because I was feeling daring and it actually worked! The sweet, salty, spiciness of it all just came together.
