Excellent burger joint. My bacon cheeseburger with its double patties, cheese, bacon, grilled onions and grilled mushrooms on a toasted Brioche bun was cooked to perfection and very very flavorful. It definately is head and shoulders above most of the burgers in the area. The side of fries were well made as well with a nice crunchy texture and nice flavor although not to the level of the burger. The facility itself seems to be oriented to more of a takeout operation versus dine in as there are only three small tables at the front near the entrance where on cold winter day you can feel the chill every time someone comes in or leaves the restaurant. Relative to staff, there is no waitstaff as it is a counter order operation where this is really not a factor here. Overall, one of the best burger joints in the area at a reasonable cost. The takeout nature of business is a factor here to consider if you are looking for table dining as it will be a roll of the dice if you get a table depending on time of day. read more

I could have went for just a single patty because it was so filling. But go big or starve! I ordered the build your own double burger and it was cooked very nicely. The season and toppings on it were generous. My grandma ordered the bacon burger (minus the mushrooms) and she enjoyed it. And this woman is very picky about things. She even enjoyed the onion rings. My son got the Mac and cheese Cheetos burger and he liked it. Wish it had more Mac noodles but nothing to fret about. Fries were a great cut and portion. I could have ordered one and shared one. A very nice hole in the wall burger restaurant. Although I did carry out when I walked in the atmosphere was welcoming and fun with a couple of small tables in one corner, a radio playing some music, and somewhat retro decorations on the walls. I ordered a western burger with large fry, but removed the corned beef. The burger itself was delicious, the patties were well seasoned and cooked perfectly. They were quite juicy and melted in the mouth. The brioche bun was as expected, although it did get a little bit, soggy due to the generous amounts of sweet/sugary Kansas City style barbecue sauce, which was also delicious. The onion ring that was part of the burger was crispy on the outside and not too mushy on the inside just how it should be. Next time I'll add bacon and some jalapeños to the burger to balance the sweet barbecue sauce. The french fries were delicious, crispy exterior with soft, fluffy interior and just the right amount of salt. Although I did not order seasoned fries, I was very happy with the regular unseasoned one. I can imagine that the seasoned fries would be even better. After kayaking at Proud Lake State Park, we decided we needed a bite to eat. Of course, I searched Yelp and Top Up Burger popped up with its great ratings. So we ventured there in our kayaking clothes. Hair a mess and a clothes slightly damp. Lucky for us this place had a couple of tables outside so we didn't feel out of place. In fact, it's more of a carry out place with 3 small tables inside too. We ordered at the counter then I went to sit outside. I was a little bothered by the two employees from the barber shop next door who came out to smoke. Definitely not 10 ft away from the door or us. But the smell of my burger overpowered the smell of smoke. Speaking of burgers, I ordered a regular burger and added a bunch of their free toppings - lettuce, grilled onions, jalapeños, grilled mushrooms, and pickles. Might sound like an odd combo but so good!! I consider a messy burger a good burger and this was just that. The grilled brioche bun definitely topped it off! Hubby ordered their the Western burger and it was it was a plethora of flavors! Definitely a buy again! The fries were also very fresh and tasty. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I was looking forward to eating at TopUp Burgers. I went on Saturday night for a quick dinner. I had the mushroom burger, which was good. The burger is smash burger style. For my taste it was on the salty side, and I needed to add ketchup. The egg was a overcooked, which probably hurt (Egg makes everything better). No running yoke to add to the burger. The burgers were good size. Everyone got enough to eat. My daughter had the breakfast burger, which she enjoyed. We also ordered a side of the garlic-parmesan fries. They were well cooked and seasoned. The garlic was to the point of almost being spicy (which I don't mind). For three of us, we probably needed one side of fries with the burgers. I would say the burger was on the more expensive side. With drink we were approaching $20 per person. There are a few tables to eat at, mostly high tops with two or three chairs. Everything was clean and neat. The service was excellent. Our food came out fast. We were greeted when we walked in. Everyone made sure we had everything we needed. I was pleasantly surprised with our visit to Top Up. First, it's an absolutely tiny establishment, with only 3 tables. Luckily, my husband and I snagged a seat. We split the Bacon Cheeseburger, a Spicy Chicken Sandwich, and an order of Onion Rings. A few years back, my husband and I tried to find our favorite hamburger in Metro Detroit. After tasting the cheeseburger at Top Up, I think it could be a serious contender. Whenever I try a burger place for the first time, I tear off a piece of the hamburger meat so I can try it without any toppings. The meat at Top Up was properly seasoned, flavorful, and juicy, letting me know that this burger had real potential. Top Up isn't stingy with the bacon either. They use crumbles, and lots of them, rather that strips. The bacon was literally falling off the burger! I would order this again for sure! I wasn't as enamored by the Spicy Chicken Sandwich. The breading was good as was the chicken itself. However, the sandwich was overpowered by the sauce, which tasted of Frank's Red Hot. It was too vinegary for my liking, and I would not order this again. The onion rings were good, a solid choice for a side. read more

I just tried this place out this morning because I'm tired of giving my money to the bigger burger places that have bland burgers. I did a google search and this place popped up. I am glad it did! After 1 bite I already know the burger and fries are on point! I got a mushroom, swiss and mustard burger with a side of fries and a cherry coke! I left a tip before I even had my food because that is what I normally would do but I have no regrets in doing so! I stay only a mile up the road and will be back to get another meal from you! I saw TopUp Burgers as I was passing by one day and decided to try it today. At first, I thought it was pretty expensive for fast food; the least expensive burger, a veggie burger, is $6.95. Still, I decided to order. I got the chopped cheese beef ($8.95) and fries ($2.95). I was glad to see that everything is prepared fresh. They said it would be 10-15 minutes, but it was more like 5. I took my lunch home, as there are only 2 tall tables inside, and as a short person, that is not an option. There were also 2 tables outside, but it was raining on & off, so I didn't want to sit out there. I was sad to see that they've chosen to use styrofoam. I REALLY wish restaurants -- especially fast food restaurants -- would stop using it. For one, it's horrible for the environment. (This is nothing new; there was an episode of "Murphy Brown" from the 1990s where they discussed it and refused to order from restaurants that used it.) But secondly, it really affects the food -- especially the fries, which just get limp because the steam cannot escape. But back to the food. I crisped up the fries in my air fryer, and it improved the consistency and taste quite well. They were large, and possibly hand-cut. And there was a generous amount as well. The burger itself was huge -- I could only eat half, and I was very glad that they cut it. The grilled mushrooms and onions were a nice touch. It wasn't until after I ordered that I saw that burgers could be served on lettuce or fries instead of a bun. Next time, I will do that, as I've learned that, even though I'm not really trying to cut out bread, burgers taste much better on lettuce. read more

Okay, another five star review seems cliche for this spot, but it is earned fairly and deserved. I had the bacon cheeseburger and chili cheese fries. Damned good! The cheeseburger was a great fast food style, but generously proportioned and well dressed with a perfect amount of crispy bacon, grilled onions, and mushrooms. Just add some mayo and it's perfect. The chili cheese fries were a welcomed and appreciated variation from the tired "coney sauce" Michiganders insist is good chili. I do think chili here would benefit from slightly more flavor, but that's just me and I was just excited to find it better than most around here. The cheese was a stroke of genius, though. Real melted cheese and not the liquified processed oily or gelatinous "cheese food" some places slop on their fries. The service was beyond good. I can't say enough amazing things about this place. From the moment I walked in I was greeted with the amazing smell of fresh food being prepared! The owner greeted me and helped me place my order as it was my first time and I had A LOT of questions. I ended up ordering the fried chicken sandwich as well as a spicy fried chicken sandwich and added bacon; both with garlic parm fries as recommended by the owner. After walking in a noticed that they had fried Oreos on the counter displayed as well! OMG! These were better than the ones I had at Disney in Orlando! I had a conversation with the owner and he and his partner were amazing! So down to earth and made me feel like family. I carried the food to go and it was still amazing when I got home. My son and I both enjoyed the sandwiches and there was even enough left for my wife when she got home. She was ranting and raving over it after it was nearly an hour old. Try it! It's nice to have another small, personally owned business in the area. I don't think it will be small for long...once the word gets out...I have a feeling the line will be out the door. I actually was headed to Bates and/or Green's but neither location was answering their phone...and it was 7:50pm mind you....just odd. That said, I pulled up "Top Up Burger" and was pleasantly surprised to see it was quietly hidden behind my hotel - perfect! I called in my order and the young fell who answered the phone and took my order was very polite, gracious and thankful. What the heck else can you ask for from a locally owned small business?? Oh yeah...good food! So yes, how was my burger you ask? Amazing. They nailed it...I'm telling y'all....this burger was way north of my expectations. The burger tasted extremely fresh and I felt it was seasoned perfectly. It might be tad bit salty for a few of the more timid folk, but just get a pop and deal with it...I don't think you'll be disappointed. The fries are also well worth mentioning. Passed by the strip mall on the northwest corner of 14 mile and Haggerty and found a new burger place. Always a good find. Though it specializes in "chopped cheese", a New York creation, I decided to get it in burger form. You can customize a burger with 28 toppings and many sauces, including onion rings, hot cheetos, bacon, an egg, etc. I went with pepper jack cheese, onion rings and hot cheetos. The burger was very good. The two 4 oz patties were well cooked and crispy but still juicy. The brioche bun was fresh and a very nice touch. It took about 8 minutes from the time I ordered until it was done. I enjoyed the burger. The place itself is small and has 3 or 4 high top tables. not very many places to sit or to wait for the food. There are two tables outside, but it was cold and rainy. I highly recommend the restaurant. Next time I will try the chopped cheese. read more

I would only suggest maybe listing all the options you have for the burgers and subs either on the menu or someplace in the restaurant. I had a veggie burger and I was a little hesitant when I saw "house made" as I've been sorely disappointed and underwhelmed in the past by "house made veggie burger" but this one was truly delicious. It was thin and had a different texture almost like a veggie tortilla of sorts. The bun was soft and fresh and made for a really good match to the 2 thin house made veggie patties.
