Daiso is great discount. I go here to stock up on some essentials like soap dispensers, travel sized spray bottles, rubber bands and get random items like stickers and holiday/party decorations. They have so many cute and useful stuff here that I often spend way more time than I planned lol. As for space, it's a decent medium sized store (it's bigger than the small closed down Daiso that used to be in Berkeley) and is very clean and organized. The staff are friendly too and if registers don't have a cashier there is a self-serve check kiosk/set-up whether you can check out and pay easily. I will be back to stock up on more supplies. read more

Daiso is Japan's version of Dollar stores, except with far cuter and higher quality merchandise, at slightly higher prices. They carry a dizzying array of various household goods, stationery, hair and beauty products, kitchen items and tableware, cleaning and laundry goods, Japanese snacks, as well as various cute plushies and gift items. Most of the merchandise are $1.50/ea, unless otherwise stated. Post-pandemic, I have noticed that the selection of snacks and cute kawaii merchandise at this location has decreased. And the store is no longer as good about clearly displaying price tags for items. The store itself is kept clean and shelves are, for the most part, fairly well organized. And the staff are typically pretty friendly. No returns or exchanges are allowed, so make sure to inspect your items before you buy them for any defects or damages. read more

There was only one reason why I came through this store: they have the best oil absorbing paper for fried food for the price. Hubbers knew I was gonna be around the area, so he asked to make a stop just for that specific item. I wasn't one to complain since I really like Daiso and I like exploring and discovering gadgets. I was more than happy to do it. I found the item he wanted except they only had one size available (they used to have 3.) It'll do but I would have liked to have bought the other sizes as well. And as easily predicted, I found and ended up buying a bunch of stuff I didn't think I needed! The whole place was clean and organized. I don't remember seeing any clutter. Staff and customers were sensible about social distancing. Located at El Cerrito Plaza, but they have their own small parking area. It can get full and if it does and if you're willing to walk a little, it's not an issue. Would recommend and would come back. read more

This is my favorite location for this chain. The first one I visited was in San Francisco in the old Emporium Capwell's and it was neat and very clean. However, it was in San Francisco, and I go to SF for nothing. The next one was Berkeley, which was nice, but was very cramped and not the cleanest. But this location is the cleanest by far and has tons of things. I really love it. It's never packed with people and I can find what I want, and I don't have to rifle through sticky packages to get what I want. The only issue is the parking, which isn't the most convenient, however, it's not enough to take away a star. Believe it or not, I can always find a spot in that tiny lot of theirs. I can't get enough of this store and look forward to visiting more often. read more

I came here looking for one thing. ONE THING. And I came out leaving with a bag of many things. I think Daiso stores are like the equivalent of a crack store. It's so addictive and you find yourself getting the following: stuff you need, stuff you don't need, stuff you'll find the need the use for, and stuff you think you need. This tends to happen a lot in many Daiso stores, and this particular store is also one of the larger stores I've been to. They obviously have a selection of many things, and I appreciate the Ito En brand green tea drinks. I just love that stuff. But what also stands out here is the uber friendly and helpful staff. Daiso got me addicted now it's not even funny. I might have to go into rehab.....but I can't stop buying so much stuff from here. read more

Daiso is the Japanese dollar+ store. They have lots of cute and unique items. Great for getting storage boxes for organizing. You'll have to look at the signs to determine the prices as they are in Japanese and not English. Staff wasn't very helpful or pleasant. But I was able to find what I needed without help. Also doesn't stop me from going back! I get cute kitchen items for my kiddos play kitchen. And unique stationary too! If you haven't been you should go at least once! read more

I have a slight obsession with Daiso. Everything is just so cute (koala slippers, anyone?) and you can find useful household items for some very low prices, mostly between $1.50 - $3.00. I've shopped at the Emeryville, Alameda and SF on Market St. locations, but El Cerrito/Albany is definitely the best. I've been to Daiso stores before, so I knew what to expect when they put one in the El Cerrito Plaza. Our wine carafe broke in the dishwasher, so I was headed to Bed, Bath and Beyond to pick one up. I decided I would stop in and check to see if they had one and they did! Saved some money there. They have housewares, gifts, holiday decorations, toiletries, snacks and more. This daiso has always been my favorite place to go. well organized and friendly employees. I love coming here and still do and Some of the workers are amazing and very helpful but when I went last Friday or Saturday they're were new employees and the line was extra long. I was patient and didn't mind the wait at all but what bothered me was a young lady that kept complaining out loud after a fellow employee asked for her help to open and ring up customers. She has the worst attitude didn't smile and kept saying she hated her job. Daiso please make your employee name badges larger for customer to see who's providing us service. The name badges are way too small and I couldn't even read her name. She definitely ruined The Who vibe of the store and I could see the customers faces as she was complaining the whole time with 10+ customers in line. read more

First visit to Daiso since the pandemic started. Things have changed, but not for the better. I primarily go to Daiso for the snacks. The snack section has moved from the front right corner to a few impulse racks parallel to the checkout line. The prices have also gone up, but I was expecting that. I saw a small bag of chips for $5. But at least they still had the nori crackers I like. I am happy to find this Daiso location. I didn't know we had so many wonderful Daiso stores in the Bay Area. I find everything I need at Daiso and it's near parking and other shopping. I appreciate the neatness of the store which is considerably more tidy than the downtown San Francisco store. I enjoy the consistency between stores. I'm working on a project with tile stickers. I've purchased the same color match tile sheet from 3-different Daiso stores. The staff is friendly and they always remind me that there are no returns - LOL. I'm a fan! read more

I asked my husband to come here with me, having been to Daiso in San Mateo County. I was thrilled to see that one was here so close, even if it meant the disappearance of Pier 1 Imports. But I have to say, I'm not that impressed. The store has a super sterile atmosphere. It's so white and the lights are so super bright. Rows and rows of the exact same thing. Every outing to Daiso always ends with me exclaiming, "What the hell did I just buy?! Oh well, it was $1.50!" I love this particular store because it's super spacious, clean, organized and parking is never an issue. What? A Daiso at El Cerrito Plaza? I must not have been here for awhile to have missed that this was coming! I was so excited that there was a new shop of actually go to that I called my mother to let her know. This is probably the third largest Daiso I've been to (with the largest being in SF Japan Center and the next in San Mateo). The store replaces Pier 1 imports so the interior is bright and white. The store overall is extremely clean and the rows are short. Compared to other Daisos, this one is on the better side. It has the items that other Daisos have...with most items at $1.50 (larger bowls are $3 and blank cards are $1 so there are exceptions). So why 4 stars? For some reason, possible because of all the rows, I started feeling a little overwhelmed and everything started looking the same. In terms of payment, they accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover with a $10 minimum purchase. Any cost below that, I would recommend paying with debit. They have their own parking lot but even if the lot is for some reason full, there's always plenty of parking at El Cerrito Plaza lots! read more

DAISO Japan, you know I love you ever since we met in Japan. You've opened a new location in El Cerrito, which I'm ecstatic about. This place had a decent sized foot print. Your selection was way better than Berkeley-Telegraph but nowhere near Fremont or SF. Your washi tapes were nearly out of supply. The badge/ID belt clips were nearly impossible to find. Unlike your SoCal Pomona location, the beauty masks were well in supply. I did not see any disposable tea bags for loose leaf. I think you have room to grow. This first visit only earned you three stars. A-OK but nothing to brag about on Yelp...yet. I hope you knock my socks off in future visits. read more

The Daiso is much larger than the Emeryville store. As a larger store, it carried more items that I didn't see in the Emeryville store. My partner and I took our out of town friends here and they went on a shopping spree. With everything starting at $1.50, they bought a lot. I liked how large the aisles are. Not cramped like the Berkeley store. This allowed me to shop and look at the items in a more leisurely way. Without worrying that I would be blocking the aisle if someone wanted to walk through. read more

I've been to many Daiso locations in the Bay Area and this is by far the BEST one I've been to! The store is HUGE, with so many great products that makes you want to buy everything. The store is spacious and well lit. You definitely can't complain about the prices either. It's cheap, but the products are well made. The man at the front check out today was extremely rude, turned my daughter away for returning a broken item that was purchased 5 minutes prior. His response was it doesn't matter it's broken, it's my child's fault. I went back in, he told me it's my fault. I asked for a manager, he rudely only pointed to a corner of a store. The manager was extremely polite and helpful, she quickly replaced the broken item and was very apologetic for the rude man at the check out. read more

I cannot believe I have not reviewed this location of Daiso Japan that is located at the old Pier 1 Imports location in El Cerrito Plaza. No disrespect to Daiso Japan located near UC Berkeley on Telegraph Avenue, this one at El Cerrito Plaza is much larger. And there is enough room in the aisles to explore and take in the offerings as well as to dance and/or bop to the atmospheric music while trying to decide whether or not what to buy. One of my favorite finds at Daiso Japan were page flag markers in bright fluorescent colors of pink, blue, green, yellow, and orange. They come in three shapes, thin strips, rectangles, and arrows. They sure came in handy in marking certain passages in assigned readings whilst I was at Berkeley. I highly recommend those and they are a bargain at $1.50 each! When I was preparing to graduate from UC Berkeley, I found a lot of items I could use to decorate my graduation cap. Instead of getting block alphabet letters from the office supply store, I found white foam letters, and the white letters would stand out against the black background. I have slowly taken up bullet journaling, and those flags sure do come in handy. I made another visit to this Daiso Japan location to look for washi tape. Washi tape is masking tape that comes in different colors and/or designs. It is great for decorating the bullet journal and covering up mistakes. I was looking for washi tape in the color and design of film clapper boards, the black and white chevron. I did find an alternate design I liked, similar to the film clapper board chevron in the colors of the rainbow. On my recent excursion there, I was surprised to see a former classmate of mine from Berkeley City College working behind the till. I waited to have her ring up my purchases so we could chat a bit. They were definitely a sight for my pair of sore eyes. One of these days, I hope to meet up with them for lunch. Oh yes, I will definitely shall return to Daiso Japan! I love shopping at Daiso but after this experience I would think twice. I live far and come to this Daiso here. Everything was fine til I got home unpacking the items and see I was charged for 32 items but only counted 28 items. So I called to raise my concern the representative on the phone was willing to help but I received a called from the manager stating he can see very clearly what was place in the bag and the was no items left behind. 32 items was place in the bag from what he can see on the screen. He was kind of aggressive that they didn't do anything wrong and they don't know happen once you leave the store. My advice to all shoppers is to count your items so you won't be over charged here or anywhere. Then be take down by a manager as if your trying to scam them over like $6. Just a VERY BAD Experience and no one should be take that way or form. read more

Duuddeeeee. I totally couldn't contain my squeal of excitement when I spied from across the CVS parking lot that this Daiso was already open! Lol... I swear it was just a week ago that I saw a "coming soon" sign in the space that used to be occupied by Pier 1 Imports, and now we have one of the largest/brightest Daiso's I've seen since the gargantuan one in South SF. But I digress...everything here is just so cute you can't help but pick up something whether you planned on it or not. Priced at only $1.50 (snacks sometimes are $1), it's really easy to suddenly find your basket full of crafty items, adorable animal themed dining ware, basic household items (that seem way sturdier than what you'd find at another dollar store), an endless array of savory and sweet snacks....truly a dangerous place. Yea, the credit minimum is $10 (no min for debit), but I feel like either I buy nothing...orrrrrr basically buy the whole store, so the min is not a problem, lol. I think El Cerrito Plaza is going to be a very popular haunt for me in the near future.....XD. read more

Helene is super helpful at this place. Everything is clean and organized. You have a super wide variety of things at a very affordable price. It's all a durable quality (most things, remember your paying $1.50 for most items). This is their biggest store in the Bay Area and very well organized. Large array of snacks and don't be shocked that they have a huge variety of school supplies and house goods, and a pretty big variety of holiday items. Some items you just got to laugh at. I love this store. Every I see one I have to stop. They are all very similar, but each one has a few different item. Most items are $1.50 with the exception of a few that are clearly marked. This pace may be 50 cents over your typical dollar store, but the quality surpasses by a lot. The store originates in Japan, thus you can find a lot of the items you would find in their Japanese store. Chopsticks, bento box items, and other needed items in a Japanese home. This is also the perfect store for a college student or someone living in a small apartment. Last week I bought 2 birthday cards and a pair of socks. The time before I bought a ton of bento box lunch making accessories. They also carry food. Mostly dried goods or snacks. This is one store I will keep coming back to. read more

When I asked someone to help me he even asked me if Im talking to him I said yes you're the inly person near to. And I asked him if they have some more of this planters I even showed him he said no more not even look to the stuff im holding. I kept looking finally i found more of planters I want. After Im paying I told the cashier about my concern about the staff who don't want to be bother. And she said probably he doesn't know, I understand but at leadt he needs to pay attention for what the customer's need, instead ignore even the cashier she doesn't care about my complaints. I'm honestly convinced it's impossible to go to Daiso and not come out with something you didn't plan on buying. Having come back from a trip to Japan where we visited a gazillion "100 Yen" stores, including Daiso, I wanted to check out what we had locally. (I will try hard not to compare to the Daiso in Japan but it's hard. They are similar but the quality of items is less and the price is higher.) We went to 3 Daisos in one day and this one, by far, was the nicest, cleanest, biggest and easiest to access. I spent the most at this store, partly because it was the first, but partly because of the selection. I didn't know I "needed" so many little things. Diaso s either a dream come true for some people or a complete nightmare for others. Hmmmm....guess which group I belong to? This Daiso took over the spot formerly occupied by Pier One Imports. It is a great space--sunny, clean, well-organized with a parking lot. Their inventory is somewhat limited---you may not find what you thought you were looking for. You'll probably find something you never knew you wanted or needed. Most of their items are $1.50 with some priced up to $3-5...usually not much more. You'll find lots of pens, markers, pads of paper, origami, stickers, folders and a few other stationery items. There are toys that aren't too appealing andl leave one wondering if they are made well or contain any dubious chemical materials. There are household items like plastic containers, brooms, little curtains, chopsticks, utensils, napkins, tablecloths and paper items. There are snack items, sweet and savory (most I've never seen before, except for the Pockey sticks. Most have descriptions only in Japanese. I hate to admit it but my favorite items are the little bobble head maneki nekko (waving good luck cats) that move when their solar panels are in the sunlight. The staff here is mostly pleasant. Some seem to really enjoy working here and others look as if they wish they were anywhere but there... A fun place but even I a major shopaholic don't feel anded to shop here often. read more
