There is a Ross at El Cerrito Plaza that is terrible. No stock, extra security, sales floor destroyed. Then there's this Ross. Very nicely stocked with plenty of fresh inventory. Clean and organized. Good customer service. There was even a staff member spray cleaning all the mirrors. You can tell just by walking through that the staff here has pride in their job. And that's something that comes from the top. A store manager who cares. I found loads of stuff for my 83 year old mom. Winnie the Pooh shirt, Fall leaves sweatshirt, cozy socks, new shoes, sweatpants. All under $100, very reasonable. It was a goldmine. I'll need to come back and shop for myself next time. read more

Nothing out of the ordinary, but it's one of those places Mom would never leave empty handed. If you look hard enough and given a bit of free time, you will find some bargain buys. She did find a couple of home decor items at bargain prices, so yeah, good score. Due to the pandemic, fitting rooms are not available. The pandemic may be the reason why they might be understaffed. I came back in here for this cute rosy dog bed that I missed out on unfortunately. It was a week ago that I saw it. I can't be too mad, especially with these prices. My rating is solely for the pet section of this store. This Ross doesn't have a large dog outfit section, but the selection is good. I got a cute Christmas tutu for under $5. The pet beds are nice, plush and affordable. It was only $11.99. My dog hopped right in it when she saw it. I didn't pay attention to see if they had treats or anything like that, but from browsing through the store there's a nice bath, pet section and home decor area. I saw nice marble side and coffee tables about a week ago, too. read more

The manager manned Maria gaslit me about my complaints about the security guard that was a young male who followed me around the store from the entrance all the way to the shoe section. He greeted me when I first walked in then kept walking passed me saying, hello multiple times but not in a genuine way. So I paused to watch him and see if he's treating anybody else with that same manner. FYI I'm 1/3 Black people shopping there. There were a lot of other Mexican shoppers there minding their business that not being watched by him. So as I'm watching him walk around the store, I saw he was only following the other 2 black people in the store that was just shopping and minding their business. I get that it's apart of his job to watch out for shop lifters but it's messed up to what felt like being criminalized by him hovering over me and over them while trying to go about our day. So I attempted to make a complaint to the manager (Maria), as I told her what happened and how I felt, she just pushed my feelings aside and said "that may be how I felt but that didn't actually happen".......(as if she saw the whole thing). I just asked how do I make a complaint? She said call the number on the back of my receipt....I should've just left without buying anything after that. If you're Black and tired of being followed around a store, do not support this Ross across from Del Norte Bart station.... You'll be followed, gaslit, and uncomfortable. read more

There needs to be a major overhaul at this location. They opened 10min late on a Sunday, the employees were totally unprofessional (not answering questions and rolling their eyes), the security guard (blonde hair I think) kept following me around like a creep, and lastly, their card machine was not working. Read as 3.49. I disagree w/ the FTR that it's rundown and grubby. The sidewalk in front of the entrance was indeed littered w/ trash and spills of undetermined origin, but once you step inside, the store is immaculate and spacious. Yes, the stock is pretty much the same as you'll find at other Ross locations or at Marshall's. It's a discount department store, so that's what I expect. If I'm going to shop at a discount place I will head for Tuesday Morning, but Ross is just fine. In the past I have bought the occasional Calphalon sauté pan, bath towels and kitchen gadgets. I have been happy w/ most of my purchases. Signs are bilingual English/Spanish, which I think is cool. This Ross is in the space vacated by Staples. I had expected that the Ross store in the El Cerrito Plaza would close when this one opened, but it's remaining open, so El Cerrito will have two Ross stores. Alan and I stopped in this afternoon to check it out. A few people were shopping and the parking lot was virtually full. Alan headed to the Men's section while I checked out the housewares. Neither of us found anything we had to have, but the experience was pleasant; there were things I liked but didn't need. The staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. I used the public restroom, which was clean and convenient. Stock wasn't as plentiful as some Ross stores I've seen, but I wouldn't describe it as picked over. There was still enough to be tempting. I have been a Ross customer for decades. This is the worst store I ever shopped! HORRIBLE!! The store has major issues: 1. Treat you like a criminal: Security guard was standing right in front of you as you walk in. First of all, he is in a way. Second, Ross is a discount store which does not need such a high security. It's an over kill. It indicates attitude of no trust of customers and no respect! 2. Rude customer service: the clerk Danelle was only doing the scanning while I was busy moving the merchandise from shopping cart to the counter to scan. Once she finished scanning, I was busy moving the merchandise from the cash register counter to the other counter to make sure Danelle does not scan twice. I bought a lot that day for staging a home. Not only Danelle was doing minimum work and started to ordering me to hurry up. As I confronted her about her rude manners, Danelle stopped the sale transactions and send me to another cashier which wasted even more time to complete the transactions. 3. Higher prices: I also noticed the price of this store is higher. The same comforter set at other store sold for $29 and is listed as $39! 4. Disorganized stores: the store is messy and unorganized. I don't live in El Cerrito and was only visiting. However, the rudeness of the employees and their laziness have made the shopping experience extremely unpleasant and uncomfortable. I live very close to this Ross, so it's super convenient for me. However, this shopping center is indeed a bit of a sketch fest. I don't feel safe. I generally avoid it. However, once I was inside the store, it was fairly clean. The staff was very nice. I hope they don't allow it to get run down like everything else in the center. We want nice things in El Cerrito! It sucks to always have to drive to Berkeley to shop. It did feel like a bit of a replica of Marshall's. A bit harder to find the higher end labels in here as well. At Marshall's I know exactly what racks to shop to find what I want. Overall, I found quite a few nice surprises though. I'll be back, for sure. read more

I felt like I was walking in as a criminal. The security guard at his post when I came through the doors and the girl at the fitting room check in acted like I could be arrested or something! I had a couple items that my daughter didn't like and was walking to my cart to grab 2 more and switch out the no's; suddenly I was abruptly interrupted with a "what's going on?" in a very accusing type of tone. She then continued explaining to me in a very condescending way that I was not following a rule that I didn't even know about!
