Daiso was founded in 1977, with the name meaning To Create Big. It originated from the 100Yen stores that are all over Japan, This location in Long Beach is well run, with fully stocked shelves, ranging from very specific products used for one particular purpose to everyday things that one would constantly have to replenish. Slowly browsing the shelves is like walking through a series of infocommercials...very possible that what you buy was a complete waste of money, but having the risk be minimal since it's only a dollar. When we went to Japan many years ago (before Daiso made it to the US in 2005), 100 yen truly meant a dollar. But the Japanese economy has really struggled compared to the US, to the point where 100 yen is only worth 64 cents now in 2024. Another thing I noticed is how they handle labeling of prices. Both 100yen stores and US dollar stores keep the effort of pricing products low, by selling everything at one even price (i.e. a dollar or 100yen). Of course, with inflation, this is not sustainable...prices need to go up. So rather than having to relabel everything as prices go up, instead Daiso uses the prelabeled price in YEN to represent a CODE..translated to a dollar amount per charts that are found throughout the store. And the vast majority of product has no price...which means that it is the default price of the entire store (which in 2024 is $1.75). Unlike 99cent or dollar stores in the US which sell mostly excess products that you can find in department or grocery stores, much of the products in Daiso are made exclusively for them. Thus, you can find real useful things here, at decent quality. On this visit (which we made only because we saw this store near the place where we had lunch), we ended up getting 2 china soup bowls, loose tea leaf filters, a fat/scum skimmer for soups, a spring loaded glass bottle for Q-tips (or in my case, Glide flossers), and a 10 pack of clasp chip bag clips. And none of them had marked prices, so defaulted to $1.75 each. Even here, they ask if you want a bag, needing to charge you the dime if you answer 'Yes' (that's California). So we always say 'No', and because this time we had not brought reusable bags, used the bowls to contain the knick-knacks back to our car. Would have been a very different story if we had walked, but alas, Brand Daiso is one of those stores that is not within walking distance from our place. read more

Highly recommend coming to Daiso if you shop at other discount and affordable stores. So many great items and knick knack items. From containers, house supplies, stationary and more, it's a really useful store for everyday use. There's even items you wouldn't normally find in other stores. This store is a bit smaller than others but all employees are really friendly and helpful. I went to find a basket for my house for clothes and other stationary goods and they had some really cool options to choose from. I always leave with Japanese chips too to take on the road. read more

This is my local Daiso and I love coming here to buy Japanese goods and kawaii things. It's a bit small compared to the location in Lakewood but they have everything you need and they have plenty of parking. Workers here are friendly and always available if you need help looking for something. My only complaint would be the prices have gone up in recent years but still a good value for high quality items. read more

Can't complain. This Daiso is on the smaller side but it's very organized. Lots of items you won't find anywhere so that's a good thing. Also, the quality is better than your typical discount stores. The team members are friendly and attentive. Parking is also easy as it is in the same plaza as Ralph's. I highly recommend going here even just to walk around. read more

My kids and I love Daiso! Glad we have a location not far from our home. Store has everything you could possibly need from everyday essentials, snacks, toys, plates, beauty, etc...Very well maintained organized store. Service by Alyssa was excellent. We have been going to this location for years and always different cashiers, but this time I felt that genuine friendliness. She was so sweet and professional making sure we self checkout smoothly. I'm saddened prices increased due to inflation from $1.75 to $2.25. Of course, may sound cheap still but everything adds up! Usually, leave the store with more items than what I came for. Kids runs straight to toy section while I could just spend hours browsing around. So many interesting products on the shelves make me want to buy the whole store. It's a kind of one-stop shop, with everything from school supplies and gift wrap to household items and snacks. I've been coming here for the past couple of weeks to buy their kitchenware. I'm completely obsessed over them! These bowls are not plastic, they are ceramic (I believe), and they are such good quality. Each of them costs $3.25 which is a better price than a lot of places for cute ceramic bowls. There are plenty more designs, and plenty more dinnerware with cute designs. The staff are always kind, I've never had any bad encounters or seen any bad encounters with the staff. I have had some staff members wrap my bowls in paper to protect them, but I have had some that do not. I don't mind either way because I usually only buy 2-5 items when I go to Daiso. read more

I came in with a specific purpose: to look for trays we can use while we eat in the car (which we've been doing frequently lately). I've scoped out online stores and other places and noticed how expensive trays are. I'm glad that Daiso came to mind and I hoped that they had some options for an affordable price. Score! I was happy to find simple, sturdy trays, pretty much what I was looking at $3.50 each. The cashier made sure that that price was ok with me since everything else in the store is $1.50. Considering how much trays are at other places, I was more than happy with this price. If you need something & don't want to spend too much, check this place out first to see if they have it. At the time of this visit, I did notice some of the shelves looked more bare than usual, but I super hope that's just a temporary situation with all the supply issues we've been having lately. read more

I went to the original one in Japan years ago and have been meaning to come to the ones here I finally decided to check it out listening my to advice from my coworker. I was welcomed once I entered as was everyone else which is always a plus. I was able to look around in peace without being hounded and was impressed. There was something for everyone especially cosmetics. I did ask a staff member about an item location and he was very helpful and friendly. It was quiet, spacious and I got some ideas on what to get later. I got some good deals. The only thing is they don't take Apple Pay or google pay so luckily I brought my card. read more

I could even imagine if we had this place in our city. Hogh quality items and variety of section for your home based and consumer goods. Great value for what you pay for. It makes our "dollar stores" look poor. The environment has nice lighting and clearly marks signs on the labels of each product marked. It's a place to pick up things you can use on a daily basis. almost forgot how much i love daiso!!! it's located in a plaza next to a ralph's so there's tons of parking. as soon i stepped inside i realized how big it was. everyone was very neatly stocked and clean. everything is pretty affordable, nothing too extreme. there's something for everyone here. they have stationary, snacks, house essentials, gardening tools, items for babies, makeup and other stuff. i browsed through every aisle and found some great items! loved the sticker section, there were so many to choose from. the lady in the front who was my cashier was sweet and i felt welcomed in the store. there's also a lot of bt21 items if you're into bts! sanrio items are also featured here. would love to come back again read more

Daiso is one of my fav spots to get "stuff" that I know I can find cheaper than elsewhere for the same quality. The Traffic Circle store is my local Daiso. The store is always neat everytime I visit. Kids who man the registers are courteous and attentive. Here are my favorite things to buy that I probably shouldn't because I just don't use them: - Containers, baskets, etc. that are irregular in size that can't hold anything standard sized. Why I buy??? Because they're so darn cute. - Stationary... because I haven't written a letter in years. I buy it because it's cute. - Binders... because I haven't printed anything out to collect in a binder in about 3 years. Now I have a collection of empty cute binders. ABSOLUTE deals that I get and actually use: - Dishes. Usually the plain white ones because I'm simple like that. Plus, my household drops dishes and lose dishes often. I'm not bougie and require a matching set for our everyday use, so this works for me. - Gardening Supplies, like hand tools and gloves. I lose gloves like I lose socks, so to have them for $1.50 in some cute patterns is nice. - Cosmetics. I actually like their retractable eyeliner with a whirly brush on the other end. The latest pic of my face, I used eyeliner and setting gel from The Brow Bar, but this $1.50 Daiso eyeliner works better. Really. - Candy and Snacks. Love these ginger chewy candies in the snack aisle. Price is now $1.75, I think. My kids like Hi-Chew and sometimes I'll pick up whatever seems interesting. - School Supplies. I get my index cards and small boxes to contain them from here. Usually can find an assortment of pens and pencils, clip boards, cute post-it notes, etc. - Socks. Those no-show ones you wear with heels. Yes! I get them here. They last longer than I can lose a side. I've visited Daiso in other countries and I prefer ours because it's always neat, organized and tidy. I don't like the parking here though, especially because Ralphs has high traffic and parking can be impacted. read more

Prejudiced redhead staff member. I was there today but left without buying anything after the cashier randomly picked up the phone to announce to a handful of customers that the store was being monitored by surveillance cameras and by employees. Mind you, I was on the aisle directly in front of him. As I left, he watched me with his hand on the phone, probably read to call someone to "catch me" outside. How disappointed he must have felt that I dumped all the crap I was planning to buy right where he could see it . This is a Small store though. The selection of candy and chocolates is disappointing. Forgetting my cash in my car was annoying, but not as annoying as the cashier checking to see if my $10 bills were real. When I asked why he needed to check if a simple $10 bill was real, he said something like "sometimes the money looks fake," or something along the lines --I'm not using verbatim. He's an Asian male and I'm a Latina woman, the dynamic didn't look right, and I felt it was a bit rude. He looked young and nervous, so I tried to be as polite as possible. As someone who has worked service jobs for years, I would advice this young man to work on his approach and mannerisms. read more

I haven't come to this location in years but I stopped by on 05/12/21 around 4:30. I forgot how small it was but its a really nice location. Its bright inside and they were stocking products but it wasn't crowded or messy. Their wasn't too many people inside so it was nice. I was able to browse and avoid people. The aisles aren't super wide because it is a small location so we went at a good time. They had so many cute utensils which I got a couple pairs of. I also was able to get a Sumikko Gurashi blind box and some Disney bags for my little sister in law and nephew. I use to come to this location when I lived near by and went to CSULB so I felt really nostalgic in the area. They had a lot of different Japanese snacks. I would come again on a weekday. read more

Micah is very unprofessional and rude. He asked me to send my daughters outside since I was paying and in order to let more people in. My daughters are all under 14 years of age so that's not an option and everyone else can wait in line just as we did to get in. He didn't ask the [white] girls behind us to separate although only one was paying... racist much? He rolled his eyes and clearly was irritated. I ignored him. Moving on, Tiffany was bagging my items and I asked to have an extra paper bag to avoid it from ripping open and Micah felt the need to respond on her behalf, stating "you can place your hand under the bag if you're that concerned". His attitude is disgusting and clearly his parents did not raise him with manners; this kid needs a good reality check because the next person he speaks to this way may not be mature enough to walk away. I live within walking distance to this location. Store is always clean and organized. Very well lit. Staff is always friendly however, my visit here some time in October was disappointing. I came in to purchase a laundry basket. I was only in the store for less than 10 minutes. Walked down 3 maybe 4 aisles max very briefly. Grabbed a pack of pocky's and got the laundry basket in the back and pulled out my debit card. Put back the pocky's and went to check out. As I'm getting rung up and cashier tells me the total, I realize my debit card is not in my hand anymore. I check my pockets and around the floor of the check out area. So in that short time, I accidentally dropped it in one of the aisles. At this point I'm visibly flustered. I apologize to the cashier and tell her what happened and she asks me "did you forget it at home?" (Insert annoyed face emoji). I go around the store looking for my debit card. I'm aware it is my own fault I dropped it but I would think since no one was in line and the cashiers were just standing around doing nothing, at least one of em would help a pregnant lady with finding my debit card. No. They just stood there talking to each other. I walked around for about 20 minutes looking in the same aisles I walked down. Never found it. I have been going to this Daiso for a couple years now. Ever since it first opened. Comments on Service, Quality/ Availability of products/ Cleanliness of store. I'd give this service a good 8/10 . Staff is always friendly. Lines are a bit long but not to the staff's fault (the registers are small so I can see how it would take them time to process transactions) . Staff is not easily found on the floor but they are always ready by the register. Quality / Availability- they have alot of nifty little things in this store. From simple home goods, to stationary , auto parts, gardening and little trinkets. Everything you would find in a regular 99 cent only store but personally , CUTER! I love going into this store and seeing whats available. Some special items may come and go so if you like something I suggest you get it. for $1.50 you can't go wrong. Now please keep in mind majority of the items are $1.50 each but there are a lot of items that cost more, prices are converted on a chart on each isle cause most are written in Japanese. I have bought a lot of products from Daiso and the quality varies from item to item. Same quality of a 99 cent store item but with proper care , items can last. Cleanliness- This store is always clean. The aisles are almost always organized and stocked. If they improve the wait time for check out, I can definitely bump this into a 5 star. read more

I bought something yesterday 1/17/22 and I'm trying to return it same day and the cashier told me that they NO RETURN NO EXCHANGE I asked Why she said that their policy. Yesterday was my 1st time going to Daiso, and I came here because it was recommended to me for what I was looking for. But the lady that was stocking in a blue apron with a messing hair do. At around 10:45am was so rude, I asked her a question on how I could convert the prices from the charts that they have. The lady got bothered, she sighted and rolled her eyes. She was of no help she saw I was still there waiting on her and said it's 1.75 okay. Wow, that wasn't my question, but okay, I said oh okay thank you and no reply wow. The cashier was very helpful and nice so it would be hard to say if I come back or not but most likely not if I have to deal with employees, that get bothered for doing what I would think they are getting paid for. Part of there job is to give great customer service. I rather go pay the extra dollar but to get better customer service. This is such a nice cool store! It has a couple authentic Japanese made items. Items are very high quality too. Daiso has really great cute stationary items such as pens pencils and erasers. They have many things for crafts and different toys. Daisy also provides unique items. (The erasable pens are really cool). Along with all their items they have really kind and helpful employees. Daiso is always a great place to go for any needs, and I am obsessed! I've been able to find all kinds of storage solutions, snacks, and even house slippers. I have to often keep myself from buying to much (I almost always walk out of there spending around $50 - #noragrets.) I think what adds the cherry on top though is that the customer service is always great there, in addition to how they've been very careful about the pandemic, making announcements that folks need to maintain their distance, to reminding everyone to keep their masks on.
