I have a taste for Japanese snacks that can only ever be satisfied by going to Miramar. So, I was pretty stoked that a Japanese store opened up closer. Disao from the outside looks like a 99¢ store so I began to get a little nervous. I stepped inside and got the same feeling. I began to look at the products like little knick knacks at a low price. Bummers maybe this isn't my nearby spot. Where's my snack section because this can be redeemed if they have a good selection!! Their snack area is in a small corner of the store and is mostly Americanized treats. No seaweed puffballs, wrapped seaweed snacks, sweet crunchies, or dried anything. They did however have a whole section of Hi-Chew and Pocky (insert wah wah sound). So, immediately went on with my day and left. I won't be back to see them sadly. read more

Yelp and Google maps say that the store would close today at 9pm. They closed for inventory today at 5pm with nothing mentioned on Google, Yelp, nor DaisoJapan.com. This is the second time I have been locked out for inventory. It is very aggravating when one drives ten miles to get to Daiso only to find the doors locked before posted closing time. I can't believe that they do this sort of thing. Many other stores will do inventory with the doors unlocked. Why can't Daiso? One star for their bad customer relations. read more

I'm a big fan of DAISO products, having shopped there in Japan. Therefore, I was really thrilled when i heard i could buy my favorite products here in San Diego. I brought along my mother. She's getting older and unfortunately senile. While i was looking for notebooks, she opened two products to test them. Once, I was aware of this fact, I profusely apologized and explained my mother had every intention to buy the products and that i'll take responsibility for any problematic good. The employee was condescending and told me to "BABYSIT her or something". This is no way to treat a customer, even less the elderly. I'll shop elsewhere from now on as the customer service is deplorable. read more

Okay, this came on a recommendation from Ohana cupcakes. I am so glad we went- this store is full of ridiculously cute stuff, weird stuff, and just plain fun stuff. Everything is $1.50 unless it's marked otherwise, and I got some great travel pillows and arm covers (great for those of us who hang an arm out of the car on a sunny day and get trucker tans). What is Daiso? Daiso is the Japanese version of a dollar store. But the raised the price to $1.50 a few years ago to keep up with rising costs.... but it's still very reasonable as you can find quality items, way better than Dollar Tree or other dollar stores. The store is new so of course it's clean, we came in on Sunday which was the 2nd day of opening and surprisingly, it was not a mess!! But that is the Japanese standard :) The staff are very nice and helpful, the grand opening staff outside was a bit confused but we didn't care, we just wanted to shop! So happy for this Oceanside location, I will be here often! read more

Considering this is the only Daiso store I've been too, the inventory and prices are great! I'm all about discount stores. I love browsing around and finding something that is useful at a really cheap price. You'd be amazed at what you can find at this store. My first time here my boyfriend had to drag me out of here lol. I could spend hours looking at everything! They have items from personal, household, office/school, gifts, and even snacks. All under $20! In my opinion the quality isn't the greatest, but it's definitely better than a 99¢ store. They have a wide variety of options ranging from color/design and size. The store is very clean and kept well stocked. The employees are very accommodating and their personalities are always friendly. Whenever I'm in town it's a must coming here. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. read more

It's Japan's version of Dollar Tree. Everything is super cheap and there are no returns or exchanges. However, you can find a lot of useful items for dirt cheap that just are not for sale anywhere else like certain Japanese candies, delicious "french fry potato chips," prawn chips, rice washing baskets, sake sets, and a litany of other home organizational items and even some gardening tools. Certainly it is worth stopping in if only for the snacks and candies. read more

Fun fun fun! I see a lot of people saying its "a dollar store" when it is not. Dollar stores are dirty, badly lit with limited selection and a total downer. This is Daiso! It's bright, clean and has an outstanding selection of cool stuff averaging about $1.50 per item. Grab a cart and fill it up! That's what I did, and had a bag stuffed with goodies for around $30. Randomness abounds! A Japanese dollar store that is a total blast to visit with friends and when anyone comes into town. I buy kitchen stuff here and weird items that no one will wear unless they're as odd as I am! I buy gifts here and friends always comment on how much they like the oddity of it. Its good, I used to visit these places all the time in Japan and was kind of hoping for a larger snack and candy section. I have always talked about how my brothers and I used to love visiting the candy shops in japan and all the neat varieties that they have, however there is only a very small section in the store with candy, and its all pretty much the same gummies. But if you are throwing together a quick little get together and don't want to ruin any of your good stuff, they have plenty of things for parties and what not that can be used and thrown away and you wont feel guilty about it. read more

I'm not a big fan of dollar stores...but I am guilty of driving 35 miles South of Oceanside to pick up some Japanese food from Kearny Mesa. Having Daiso in my backyard has made it super convenient to pick up drinks and food quickly. I will admit...I did pick up a few other items here and there. I happen to like their Japanese dishes and plastic totes. It's nice to be able to pick such things locally versus having to drive South for it. Yay Daiso!! Double thumbs up! read more

Omg I m so in love with this store! Everything Japanese/Asian!!! From home decor, kitchen utensils, gardening, beauty, office to food. Best yet most of everything is $1.50. Return policy could be better but I understand with a price point they have and the type of product you are able to get from this store I wouldn't complain about the return policy. Just be sure that when you purchase some thing from here you really like it and are committed to keeping it. Lots of great things to buy for gifting. I love shopping here. read more

We love Daiso. I visit Japan from time to time, and this has a lot of the items I like to buy when I am there. Lot's of cool stuff.

If they had a return policy I would give Daiso 5 starts, but they don't . And if after I purchase something it doesn't look right in my home or smell right or anything, I wanna be able to return it even exchange it. So, it doesn't make me smile. But 3 of my kids don't mind spending their allowance there under those terms. read more

PLEASE READ ALL THE WAY THROUGH I shop here about 4+ times a week, almost always on Monday and Wednesday morning. This is a wonderful store like any other, but please do not let the one star be a turn off for this review. This store is very refreshing and a great change of pace to Oceanside that was lacking in variety of dollar stores, so I am very lucky this store exist. Although that does not make up for the fact the staff seems very reluctant to help, this happens often with the morning Weekday staff on the registers. I don't know if they did not have their cup of coffee in the morning, but they should at least pretend that they are happy to be there. I would ask cashiers questions about certain products that were available while I was purchasing and Checking their phones. Really? I would understand why you would have your phones on you for emergencies, but she was laughing while texting with one hand. As well as them not knowing much about the products. If you have any questions about the store ASK THE FLOOR WORKERS, some on the weekdays seem not as reluctant, but I make sure I visit in the Afternoon on Weekends after the gym or work down the street. The Floor workers on the weekend seem more lively and are quite the characters, really an overall delight staff at that time. There was a set of floor workers (and I feel simply awful for forgetting their names), but one of the two seemed Native American? I would just assume for the long hair and dark skin I do not wish to be discriminating, but he was a delight to have conversation with, with an impressive large smile. Overall. the store is great to shop for something different, but the staff (especially on the Morning Weekdays) could use some refreshing up on the store and what is appropriate for what is acceptable to do while ringing up items as I purchase them. There is no doubt I will continue to shop here for the quality of the products that are available, as well as hoping to see the staff improve. read more

I came here the 2nd day it opened. Interesting little shop. I came here on my way to an appointment. Browsed around and say little knick knacks, Japanese snacks and candy. Reminded me of a higher quality and wide variety dollar store. Nothing caught my eye until I spotted the canned coffees in the fridge. My hubby raved about these when living in Japan. Bought several cans and haven't seen them here since that day. They've been sold out. Maybe when I need to go shopping for little trinkets I'll check this place out. Love this store. You find items you never knew you needed before. I found items I had not seen since we lived in Japan and the prices are great: most items are $1.50, unless otherwise marked (some $3, $4 up to $10). Only issue is that sometimes they don't have the item you came in for, and they aren't sure when it will be restocked, but they do have new merchandise all the time. read more

The cashiers on for me as well as the floor staff I ran to this girls need Tiffany and I was trying to ask you to hoping you some food and she was kind of rude and snooty to me and I did not like that I felt very unwelcome with the way she talk to me and you cash years not very good they're all dressed and something different anyways the act like doing a hurry to get you in and out also you ask about stuff when is coming in and they will tell you oh yeah comes in our next shipment next Tuesday or Thursday is shipping days it should be here then I come back on this days and the items I've asked about don't come in because they don't know the right information I kind of think I'm going to stop coming. It has everything you can think of: stylish storage options, cute stationery (notebooks, pens, miniature erasers that look like food), plates/bowls/cups, baking/kitchen items, makeup/accessories, Japanese snacks/candy (so many to choose from! I recommend the Choco-Corn snack-they look like puffy chocolate stars- YESSSS: takes me to my happy place), tools, car stuff, etc! Not your average "dollar" store... quality for the price is unbelievable (most items are $1.50). You might end up buying things you didn't even know you needed. Bright and clean vibe. Great spot to pick up some Japanese nostalgia or items you have not seen before. They have styles of slipper that are really neat, a nice variety of fabrics, chopsticks, kitchen items from Japan and so much more. I love to hang out here for a bit when I am missing Asia. read more

I wanted to make a quick stop here since I live in Nevada, and never realized there was one in Oceanside while on vacation! We stopped in on a hunt for a coin purse for one of my friends for his apron at work and were a little sad we are weren't able to find one that was super cute ...however I found a bunch of things I didn't need but had to have. There is a LOT of things to look at in here. From food, to makeup and even pet supplies. Some of the things in here were pretty hilarious however if you are looking for a lucky cat piggy bank (kitty bank?) then look no further! I had a lot of fun making our way through here and was excited to find a cute little pot for my cactus (I've been looking for about a month now). I'll be back.. Mostly because I want to see what other crazy things are added to their inventory. Plus no matter what crazy thing you buy in here (mini wooden furniture?) it's probably going to be less than $5.00. I consider this the Japanese answer to a .99 cent store only this place has more interesting products. read more

The staff is so unfriendly and every time u need a cashier they are not to be found. One girl there. Joaquin man she was rude to me last few times I went in its like u just hire anyone and everyone.
