This place was an adventure to go to. I hate to sound like a snobby person, but this is the first time I had EVER been to Eastridge in my 11 years living in the Bay Area. Just never got around to it ... until today. I had been to many a $1 store in my life, but a Japanese version of a $1 store ($1.50 store in this case) is a totally different experience. Tons of high quality, cute stuff that would easily cost 2x the cost at different places is only $1.50. They are really well organized, and everything seems to be in abundance. Full walls of pens, SPONGES, shoe pads ... EVERYTHING you could need--and probably more. Like in any other $1 store, be wary of what you put in your basket. Went on a Monday night at 8:45pm, parked outside of the large bookstore and walked through the mall, 1st floor to Daiso and was nicely greeted by two employees who were lowering their front entrance gate. They told us not to worry, we don't have to rush. It is like the Big Lots, of Japanese stuff. Thankfully we only had 15 minutes or we would have spent so much more then our $20. All my kitchenware comes from Daiso. This location is a good size--they have everything I want, but I won't lose weeks of my life exploring the aisles. It seems like a dollar store for imported Japanese items, which is somewhat cool. I would get things here that are practically, yes cheap! They have kitchenware, household items, clothes, shoes, food... let's just say almost everything. Usually I would avoid the mayonaise sauces or any type of sauces they supply here, because I wouldn't know what it is or the expiration date. Other than that, this place is awsome :] read more

I can spend about 2+ hours in here! I LOVE THIS STORE! It has helped me add to my endless collection of useful & useless crap, and I don't go broke & homeless. The most useful for me has been the home organizational area. All the little basket and customizable drawer compartments have been a GODSEND! The little organizers are genius! I'm able to organize so much crap in my kitchen, it borders on OCD. Buy me baskets, and drawer-pull baskets, my superduper label maker, and I'm a happy camper! Daiso is a great "Japanese dollar store." You can find everything here from housewares to school supplies to food to pet stuff. It's pretty much amazing at how much stuff fits in the store. There are some really unique buys here (i.e. gel window clings and mini vices) and some junky stuff too (i.e. little porcelain statues/figurines & cheap wind chimes.) The best part is the stationery and pen/pencil section. I also particularly like the housewares because there's some really neat and inexpensive stuff like rice bowls and fancy chopsticks. This store is pretty cool.. I guess. The first time I walked into the store, I was like ehh... there's really nothing in here that I need or want. so I walked back out. Just this Tuesday? My friend and I came back to this store to do a little bit of shopping and I (or rather my friend I should say) went a little crazy. We're shopping for dishware for our new apartment and she just kept adding things into our basket. I don't blame her though, the items they have are cute and only 1.50 each! (otherwise stated). So we came home with bags of dishware for our apartment. Nice. Daiso is the Japanese version of the popular dollar stores in the US, but way better. They have Japanese items that are higher quality than some of the dollar stores around. Most everything here is $1.50. Some things are a little more, but still a good deal.There's nothing over $15.00, apparently. Woohooo! I stocked up on so many Japanese pens and notebooks for $1.50 each and knickknacks which I don't really need, but I love a good bargain! Their bento box items are also really cute and $1.50 mostly! You can't beat that. I spent a good hour and a half shopping here, and this store isn't nearly as large as the Daly City store from what I've heard. I know a few people who work here and they're always really nice and helpful. This past time, I came here before going to Petco to see if I can get any cheap kitten toys (YAY! My bf got me a kitten!!!) . I knew they had a pet section and I picked up a long stick with pom poms on a string at the end of it and also a small package of 4 caged balls with a jingle bell inside. The stick thing was alright but since it didn't make a sound, the kitten isn't too interested but the jingle bells, he absolutely LOVES. I went across the street to Petco after and found similar toys for at least 2x as much! I also picked up a charcol face mask and nose strips. I've seen so many reviews about these products that I had to try it. Hope its everything I heard about and better. Daiso has so many good deals, even if its just utencils, kitchen stuff, garden stuff, stationary/gift bags and ribbons, travel containers, containers of all kinds, japanese foods and drinks. read more

Just as I was missing having a Marukai around (like the LA one, not the one in Cupertino), I found this store by pure luck. Walking into this place... I sighed with contentment. At last! This is awesome! This is one of those places where you walk in with nothing in mind (usually) and you find yourself picking up stuff that you never knew you wanted/needed, but suddenly you can't live without. And since almost everything is $1.50, you don't think twice and suddenly you have a full basket. You even find stuff that at one point in your life you thought it'd be dandy if someone invented it and forgot about it until you came here and realized someone did make it and it's $1.50! =P Anyway, the staff was nice enough to try to help me an item that they were short stocked on, even though the place was crazy busy. I think this place is super-cute!!! It kinda reminds me of the Hawaiian Swap Meet that they have @ the Stadium in Honolulu - lots of cute goods for cheap! In 2 days, I spent about $200 here..crazy I know but I want to decorate my apartment and fill up my kitchen w/cute stuffs. Pros: cute, useful items at a cheap price. Virtual access to Japan w/out going the distance. Cons: low quality items (scratched utensils), no return/exchange. I loved the inflatable boobs. It looked hilarious when it inflated under my guy friend's shirt. I spent 1 hour yesterday and 2 hrs today at Daiso and still haven't covered the whole store. I'm home for the holidays and will be coming back to Portland soon for school. I have no choice but to drive to seattle or federal way washington for my Daiso fix. read more

This Daiso is very clean and organized compared to the other locations I've been to. I come here mainly to browse snacks, kitchenware, and organizers. Their dining items and apothecary jars are worth the money and are pretty durable. Make sure to check out the section in the front for their food that is near past due and are $1 each! read more

Fun, bright, huge and inexpensive. What's not to love? It's a shame that Eastridge is out of the way for so many people and that's where the San Jose location is. It would be cool if they could open up somewhere more central. My favorite item by far purchased from here is a huge aluminum shower cap that makes my head look like a baked potato. Very handy when you have braids or extensions and don't want to get them wet. Melissa is spot-on- the selection of "Engrish" items is hysterical. Especially the notepads with what can best be described as a stab at poetry: "You are my dream cloud/You give me giggles/Strawberry Days". If you stop by, be sure to keep the clerks in your line of sight - if you can't read Japanese, you will be asking them about every 5 minutes what this and that is. read more

In college, I lived off the dollar store at times for random items. Daiso being a Japanese version of that, is pretty awesome. I only come to this place on the rare occasion that I am in the area but they always seem like they have something inexpensive that I don't need-yet MUST have. :) I'm definitely in agreement that I honestly don't know what half of what the items are because either the translation to English is wrong or everything is written in "Japanese" for lack of a better word because I'm not too sure if it's Kanji. Anyway, some of the items are funny. I've bought stationary here before and although things are cute and inexpensive...some of the quotes and sayings don't make sense. It's good for a chuckle because hey, it's the dollar store. If you go into any American one, you'll find items that are there for a reason as well. This place is worth the stroll in because you never know what you will find. I absolutely adore this place! I go to this store everytime I get off work just to see if there is anything new, or if possibly they have what I need (which most of the time they do). They sell everything from screen protectors for your DS all the way to baking pans. The best part is that most of their stuff is $1.50! Even if it's not $1.50, it's not that much more expensive. I've always heard things about Daiso from my friends who go there and I'll say that theres a lot of useful things you can buy here. Prices are low as heck, and mostly everything is Japanese-made, so you know the quality of goods will be decent. I was stuck for a pretty long time walking through each aisle since there was so much to look at. On my way to the Sanrio store today, I noticed this shop. I couldn't freakin' believe it! A little Japanese shop in Eastridge! Yes!! Finally, another store to migrate to Eastridge for! When I went in, I couldn't get over how awesome it is! It's so big compared to a lot of the other stores in the mall and the contents: great! They have everything from containers and home decor items to school supplies to kitchen ware to media and more! I bought an awesome checkerboard-print storage box and a case (with a handle) for my pens for $1.50 EACH! Wow! Not only that, I saw they also had a small selection of Japanese snacks (no Pocky or Hello Pandas or anything like that.. yet) aaaand they also had a shelf full of origami paper (score!), a rack full of those cute collectable Japanese erasers, aaand I even saw a couple of kawaii memo pads! The kawaii selection is hardly existent besides the erasers, so I'm hoping they get some later on ;), but regardless of the kawaii content, the store itself has some amazing things (ooh! bento boxes!) that are obviously good quality for very affordable prices. :) After the first visit, it has already become one of my favourite shops. This store has just about a little bit of everything with a definite Japanese flavor, and great prices! Personally, I don't like their selection of bags and purses... but everything else is very cute and pretty cheap. But just a word of caution... the thought that everything is '$1.50' may seem like a bargain, but not everything is. I bought a thin notebook for $1.50, only to find out that Walmart was selling notebooks for 10 cents each. You can get a bargain at better places, but what you buy at Daiso is one of a kind. (I also bought stationary here, and I found out today that for foreign envelopes I had to pay 11 cents extra... so buyers caution...) I would definitely go here again though! read more

You know I love Daiso. Don't get me wrong, but ever since I found out that they stopped carrying my 2B pencil leads for automatic pencils I have been pretty bummed out about that. I have been running back and forth from the Cupertino location to this place and I noticed that this store does not carry as much inventory as the other locations. Their stationary section is only 1 isle at most, and I could not find construction or cardstock paper for some odd reason. They don't even carry color pencils? I grew up in Asia and I know stores like these normally would carry them. I am sad that I will be going else where for my Asian stationary needs. I'm definitely a fan of all the Daiso Japan stores, but this one is a little small. Everything is $1.50 and I think this store has a little something for everyone. Everything is also organized into categories so it's easy to find something you need. I got some cat ears because it was around Halloween time and some items to hand wash laundry with. I pretty much found what I was looking for except for some magnets that I found at a different Daiso. I would rather go to a different Daiso because this one has less merchandise. read more
