I went in to World Market since it was right next door to Marshall's. I was warmly greeted upon entering the store. They had some Christmas items on clearance for 70% off. It looked like that area had been picked over pretty good. That had a small Valentine's section with cute items. I found a really nice hair clip with a little bling on it, that I decided to purchase. I love looking through their international food section. They have chocolates and cookies from around the world. They also had a nice Asian and Italian section. IMHO It's Christmas at World Market! They have such a great collection of Christmas decorations and gift items. For a few weeks in November, they also have a fun "scavenger hunt" for some "Golden Nutcrackers" that are hidden around the store. Find one and you win a specific dollar amount gift card to spend that visit. I've done this in the past, and it is EXHAUSTING to try and find the hidden item. This visit, I opted not to spend my energy looking. I did enjoy looking at the pretty decorations, and food items. I came across a clearance area with Halloween merchandise marked down to 90% off. There were some pretty good deals there, and if I celebrated Halloween, I would've bought a few things. Will I return before Christmas? Probably. I don't really shop at World Market beyond Christmastime when festive colors and cool and unique gifts fill the shelves. But during my recent visit in September, they did have plenty of halloween-related items, so they definitely adhere to different holiday themes. I saw that they sold Keogh's irish potato chips here, particularly the truffle and butter flavor which was out of stock at Zanotto's nearby. I've recently become addicted to these, so I'm glad to have found them at World Market (this brand isn't sold at your regular grocery store). I also appreciate that the place was clean and organized, though service was slow on Monday evening during Labor Day weekend. I know it's partly the fault of problematic customers, but it still affected my experience as a whole and is worth mentioning since I think staff could have handled that better. read more

COME FOR THE SCAVENGER HUNT! Every year, World Market does a Scavenger hunt, Hunt for the Golden Elf, to look for gift cards inside the store, twice a day! I have gone multiple times and literally never found any of the gift cards, but it's still a great time. It's fun just to look and enjoy the holiday items and decorations in the store. Not to mention they often have hot tea and coffee at the front door when you walk in. It's an awesome free activity. The actual items at the store are so much fun too. This review reflects my experience during one particular visit this evening. Normally, I really enjoy this store -- the products are unique, the selection is great, and the service has usually been positive and friendly. That's why I was so surprised and disappointed by this visit. When I arrived, only one cashier was open. She was helping two customers sign up for the rewards program on their phones, which took quite a while. I completely understand that helping people through a sign-up process can take time, but during the long wait (well over 8 minutes), no one else opened another register, and there was no acknowledgment that I was waiting. When it was finally my turn, the cashier greeted me with the scripted, "How are you today?" I replied, "Well, that was a very long time to wait." Silence. I added, "It would have been nice for someone to acknowledge my patience." More silence. I started to wonder if she was even processing what I was saying. So I clarified, "I'm not trying to be rude -- I just expected someone to say, 'I'm sorry you had to wait so long.'" Only then did she respond with, "Sorry you had to wait?" -- but she said it as a question, staring at me with wide eyes as if I was out of line for even mentioning it. The delivery felt dismissive and insincere. I said, "Well, that really didn't feel like it meant much, did it." More silence. She then returned to her script and asked me for my rewards number, and at that point I realized there was just no path to empathy. I said, "You know, I think I'm just over it now." I told her directly that I really do love this store and will definitely shop here again, but that this was simply not a great experience. I left my small purchase behind and walked out -- something I have never done before in any store. As I headed out, she called after me with, "Have a great night!" but in a tone that came across as sarcastic rather than genuine. That comment really stung, but I just kept walking. Through all of this, I remained calm and respectful. This visit won't stop me from returning, but I do hope management takes this as an opportunity to coach staff on customer awareness. Even small gestures -- like recognizing a long wait or offering a genuine apology -- go a long way toward reinforcing the positive reputation this store has earned. read more

I love this place! I love it so much! I love that they have so many different types of sauces, snacks and ingredients from all over the place! The selection of hot sauces here is pretty great. I was surprised that they carried Fly By Jing here as well as Mike's Hot Honey, two condiments that I had been meaning to pick up but didn't want to pay for the shipping from each of their websites. My mom and I spent a good couple of hours just browsing the different snacks and candies and picking up so many different things. I have received gifts from loved ones from World Market in the past and loved them! Everyone has introduced me to foods, goods, you name it! This year for Christmas, I purchased gifts online and did curbside pick up and it was so easy! I was able to get everything I needed online using the 20% off pick up, and they made it easy to arrive and alert them I was there. The parking lot here gets busy, so waiting was even shorter than finding my parking. It was easy to get all my gifts, take them home, wrap them up, and watch everyone get excited over their gifts. I stopped by on Friday afternoon-- I was going to head into downtown San Jose, and had an hour to kill. Decided to go to Target nearby, then I walked over & saw World Market. The store's A/C was at a very comfortable level. That kept me browsing, haha, since it was a hot day. I was warmly greeted. I like how their items are sourced from all over the world. When I lived in Mountain View, I bought a really nice room divider screen from them. To this day, it is one of my favorite pieces of furniture. Anyhow, back to this location. Nice food selection, furniture, etc. I would definitely return if I were in the area. Lead was so rude! I came today at Coleman location to look at the Valentine's Day decor and I asked the checker girl when does their Easter decor usually get in? She didn't know and asked her Lead behind her, some older Caucasian lady with long messy hair pinned up. The lady scoffed at the question and sarcastically answered, Don't Rush It Were Not Even in February Yet! I thought she was joking, but she just looked down. The checker girl was like soo do you know when? Then the Lead rolled her eyes and answered, I Have No Idea, and looked back down. I was so shocked. It was just a question. She could have just said she did not know. But she was so rude and had so much attitude. I just walked out. Even the checker looked embarrassed at the leads response. Gotta love Cost Plus!!!! I'll be completely honest and say that I'm not here for the furniture, the decor, or the alcohol. I'm here for all the snacks and knick knacks! The worst time to come here is right after pay day, because I'll walk out with things I definitely don't need, but they're cute! I especially like coming here during the holidays to buy gift sets and stocking stuffers. There's even a section that has smaller versions of things you would never guess; like a tiny bottle of Sriracha! They even have notebooks, notepads, books, pens, and other supplies. They also have a pet area, bath area, kitchen area, and greeting card area. They're always busy, but especially on the weekends and during the holidays. Due to COVID and the social distancing protocol, the checkout line gets pretty long since they can't have all the registers open. The workers are always busy, but they don't hesitate to check on you if you have questions or need help. read more

Looking for one specific item brought me to this Cost Plus and I'm glad it did! I've never heard of the store before but it's kind of like a home goods store (without the appliances) plus food with an eclectic, maybe boho, global market vibe?? Not sure if any of that description went together. There were sections for kitchen, furniture, pillows, rugs, food, and toys. A lot of what they offered was very different from what you would find at Pier 1 or Home Goods. The styles and the patterns aren't subtle, they are bold with great details and embellishments. I was able to find a little Turkish coffee pot here for only $20. It was a very pretty rose gold color on the outside with a long enough handle that I wouldn't burn myself and was accented with lovely details. It was also made in Turkey which is what I was looking for mainly. It was a nice alternative to what I found at Sur La Table (and cheaper) and way better quality than something you'd find on Amazon. The food section was particularly impressive. I don't think you could get all of your grocery shopping done here since they don't have produce but they do have a lot of healthy and unique snacks and drinks from around the world. read more

I had not been to this Cost Plus yet and decided to give it a try , little bigger than normal ones Some items were limited supply , looking for bowels and only had three in the size and color o wanted. However with covid supply chain reduction try and not count this now. Some good after market sales , and the other items looking for were in stock The store is following covid guidelines and what I really like is enough staff at register. I may just be spoiled from the new location in concord. They had a nice selection of discounted items. The customer service was 10/10. Today they are offering a free keychain to world market members for international women's day. The cashier walked me to the section where the complimentary key chains were located which was super nice of him. This location is good but smaller than others. The parking lot is packed, given it is a Saturday. If you can get a Byrd scooter it's a bit easier access wise. read more

I'll admit I only go to World Market once a year, and that's in December to buy gifts, treats, and sweets as Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers. They have an excellent selection of giftable items, unique and varied, yet at the same time somewhat generic... essentially, you can probably find something for anyone on your Christmas list. I went today for just such a reason, and I noticed a poster they had up advertising 15% off an entire purchase for signing up for their rewards program online. So I got out my phone and did so, but then got a little confused navigating the site. Thankfully, a very friendly associate, Brady, noticed me and asked if he could be of help. He skillfully navigated me to the correct coupon, and explained future promotions and how to receive them next time I shop. He was cheerful and clearly wanted me to get the most out of my shopping experience. Big shout-out to him. I spent well over $100, but managed to get a gift (or two) for almost everyone on my list, so it was a great success. I'll be back again next year, haha! read more

The other girl on the second counter WAS VERY RUDE. 04/01/19 I've gone by Cost Plus World Market numerous times but never took the time to stop in. I was looking for an espresso candy today and the Internet told me that they had it. I called and the gal that answered was so helpful she went to check the stock to make sure that it was in an available. I drove over there and as I entered the store I find myself in a very charming place, things from all over the world. My first stop was to find the Espresso candy. Once I got it and I wandered around and found Tim Tams from Australia and numerous other special goodies including items from Hawaii. This is one of my favorite places to go to when I visit the San Jose Market Center! From furniture to apple cider, this place is awesome! They do carry unique pieces of decor/artwork, so if you are getting tired of your Ikea inspired home, it might make sense for you swing by! One thing that stands out at this location is their customer service. Everyone that I've encountered has been very pleasant, and super helpful! You get a genuine smile, and they make it a point that every customer isn't roaming around on an unsuccessful scavenger hunt. I typically love to hit their candy section, as they have a wide variety of German chocolate goodies! My favorite is the Kinder Chocolate that has each piece individually wrapped! I've been to the Cost Plus World Market but that was last year and in Walnut Creek but believe it or not, World Market left a long lasting impression because this was the first place that popped up as I was planning my Christmas shopping execution list. If it weren't for "Christmas", I would have spent hours in here only to buy things for myself. I LOVE the candies from Britain (Cadbury especially and not those Cadbury eggs although I do love those, too). This literally is a culinrary world market - from Italian to Indian to Asian sweets and easily prepared meals.. I love this place! I know how to cook so you will never see me buy prepared meals (i.e. hamburger helper type of things or pasta sauce in a jar) but as a gift for the lethargic, putting a gift basket together w/ just World Market products would be elegant yet simple. I bought his dad a mug set. I did not intend to get him this but since he will give his dad a coffee grinder, I figure the mug set would be a good gift. I saw those liquor filled chocolates and I remember his mom talking about it in Oregon so I grabbed a set. I cannot tell the difference but the prices range from $15.99-$19.99 but I got the $19.99 because the case for it looks cool. I went around and saw - CANDIES! I grabbed 2 Cadbury bars also. I intended for one item but they did not have it however, I found something to accompany my intended gift so this was a worthwehile visit. I spent close to an hour and it wasn't enough because if it weren't for my monster falling asleep, I would have browsed longer. Keeping in mind that I was here after 8PM on a Friday.. after my brief shopping spree at Valley Fair. He was tired and I did not have another bottle of milk for him. Staff were friendly and be sure to bring your own bag or be prepared to either buy bags or carry your items out because the carts are not allowed outside the store. I did not get a bag but the lady gave me a bag because she saw that I bought $50 worth of stuff plus a freaking baby. This past weekend - $200 down and 5 people done. I freaking love this place! Anything with "world" in its name must be at least worth checking out just for the sake of curiosity about the rest of the world. Cost Plus World Market is a gem of a place and if you haven't been, drop whatever you are doing and go, I'm sure there's one nearby. This location is very clean and the staff is always super duper helpful and informative. The food and snack area is the one I visit most frequently. I think most people do the same, so no surprise it's in the back of the store. Their strategy works, walk in head for the back and stop along the way to potentially buy stuff you don't need. I'm guilty as charged, it's fun to browse and occasionally splurge on home furnishings or kitchen items. Their snack collection is very compressive with items you won't find at your typical grocery store. The chocolate section here is incredible, they carry chocolate from all over the world and even their own brand, which is actually high quality. Just last night I discovered flakes of coconut and milk chocolate (World Market brand), so amazingly delicious, smooth and addictive (yes I ate the whole bar in one sitting). Let's not forget the extensive wine and beer selection! This is probably the second most visited section by me, and guess where it resides, in the back of course. The items they carry seem to be of decent to high quality, as far as furniture, home decor and kitchen items. Also the card section is pretty cool with fun greeting cards for most occasions. They also tend to sell cool seasonal items, so come by most holidays and you may be surprised by the things they sell. I end up here at least once a week, especially when a chocolate run is in order. I am glad there's a place near me where I can find various imported goods that other stores don't carry. Some items definitely bring me back to the places I have traveled to. In fact, I could have just bought the souvenirs here and not bothered with the luggage weight haha. You will find a wide range of products here. From furniture to coffee beans, you name it. I tend to gravitate towards the edibles :) I was ecstatic when I first saw wine gums on their shelf. These aren't Maynards' but close enough. I wish I had found out sooner and saved myself the ridiculous shipping cost to order the sweets from the UK. (Nope, couldn't find them in any candy stores. Not at Rocket Fizz Soda Pop and Candy Shop either, Campbell or Palo Alto.) When I shop here, a couple bags of Maltesers or even the Bundaberg ginger beer would somehow make their way into my basket. How convenient! Last week, I wanted to try a new butternut squash soup recipe that listed cardamom as one of the ingredients. I found it at Safeway. The price was almost $15 for a tiny jar. I had not been to a world market in years. Years I tell ya! Well, came here yesterday and was very impressed. They offer a lot of odd things for sale, and boy do I love odd things at times. They even had a English bulldog painting that was pretty cool. You can't beat that. They offer items from all over the world and they even have their own brand of wine called foodies. Yup. Foodies. On the wine there are pictures of cows, pigs, sheep, and chicken and a description of each part of their bodies. Pretty weird, but cool nonetheless. They also have furniture and the like here.
