We were staying at the Hampton next door. Even though the coffee is good there we had to stop and try something from Dakota. We each got a 20oz. fresh roasted coffee $2.49. They roast and sell their own beans so we thought it should be good and it was. It was delicious and had a very good fresh flavor. They also sell their fresh roasted coffee by the bag so we also bought a one pound bag of Columbian $12.95. Can't wait to get home top try it.

Dixie cups and lids...is this a coffee shop or a gas station?

It smelled really weird upon walking in, not a good coffee smell, and the first thing I saw was bottles and bottles of Torani syrup on shelves to the right. That immediately turned me off of buying any of their specialty drinks. Realistically, I am certain that many coffee shops use this brand, but I just don't want to see something that I can buy from Walmart when I walk into a coffee shop. I'd rather pretend there is something of better quality being squirted into my drink. So husband and I decided to both go for plain lattes, mine regular, his decaf. While we waited, I checked out their whole bean selection. They have a ton of flavored options, like Pastry Cream and Southern Pecan, if you're into that sort of thing. They also have a decent selection of regular coffee, light to dark roasts. Their beans look the way they should, and their dark roasts (which I prefer) look pretty much ideal. I didn't buy any but would have considered it if I wasn't already well-stocked for the time being. According to their website, the beans are locally roasted. Our drinks were up fairly quickly, and though I really wanted to like Dakota and have a local coffee shop to support, I must be honest - the drinks were not awful, but they were definitely worse than Starbucks' mediocrity. Also, what is with the styrofoam Dixie cups and lids? I know I'm being a snob, but where did I just buy my drink from? A gas station? On the other hand, the inside is cozy enough to make you want to stay for a few and hang out. I always enjoy a worn out old couch in a coffee shop. The service was also very friendly. Will we be back though? No...not to this location at least. I can make a better drink at home.

Another weekend here! We got an iced americano and an iced vanilla coffee, and they are bold and smooth yet again. Very courteous staff!

Worst coffee in Dothan by far. Gas station coffee is preferable. If you're looking for coffee, go elsewhere.

Lukewarm coffee, uninterested server. 10/16/14. Still have a snack rack in front of cream/sugar station. Won't be going back.

We were seated right away, but almost every table in the place was packed. Our server greeted us pretty quickly and got our beverage order started. My husband stuck with coffee and I got one of the energizer beverages the morning sunrise that includes elderflower tonic, orange juice, and period strawberry. It was delicious. I chose to order the breakfast burrito with fruit as my side. The fruit was incredibly fresh and absolutely delicious. There were a lot of grapes and it would've been nice to have some more of the melon but overall it was delicious. Breakfast burrito was nice and tasty. I would've liked a little bit more meat in it but again it was still delicious. My husband crafted his own breakfast and got bacon with some eggs and the French toast. He said everything was delicious.

Our server was great but harried as she had to wait tables on both sides of the restaurant. We started with the trout dip, which was delicious. There was a long delay between appetizer and entrees, but again, busy! I had the snapper Ponchatrain, which was honestly one of the best fish preparations I've ever had! Blackened snapper on a bed of delicious grits with a topping of crab and an amazing sauce made for a spectacularly yummy dish. My husband had a disappointing experience with the country fried steak. The steak was overdone and the breading didn't stick to the steak. Just not at all satisfying. We will be back but will choose our entrees more carefully next time. The food is top notch, but pay careful attention to what you order and you'll be happy with your meal!

We made reservations online and I would highly recommend you do especially for the weekend nights. Their bar area is first come first serve, but we've definitely been there when it is completely full so I wouldn't count on it as a backup plan. It is all street parking in this area and on a busy night. It can be hard to find parking unless you go down a block or two. We started with the okra, french fries and they were delicious! They come with a Sriracha aïoli which gives a little bit of heat, but it balances nicely with these perfectly fried okra fries. It also feels like there's cheese inside of the fried so you get kind of those gooey us along with the okra. Important to note no sliminess! My husband got the steak frites. The steak was definitely thinner than we recall having in the past, but it was perfectly cooked and the seasoning was great. The grits were also really delicious as well, although he wished they would've been just a little bit creamier. I opted for the southern fried steak, which comes on a bed of horseradish mashed potatoes. There were a ton of mashed potatoes on that plate and honestly kind of overwhelmed the steak. But the steak was really tender. I love the breading, although there were certain portions where the breading felt, it was almost too much as it was super crunchy. My husband got the KBC old-fashioned. He always asks for a little bit of cherry juice in his cocktail and the first round, It definitely was more cherry juice than it was liquor. The second one he asked him to just bring the cherry juice in a small container so he could control it and it was much better. I had their peach cocktail and it was absolutely delicious. Very easy to drink, but full of flavor with peach and ginger.

You just have to know the procedure, but it wasn't only me, a Northerner whose brain hadn't yet fully recalibrated for the local accent. Locals were confused too. Procedure is this: tell them your drink preference (I had water), pick up a tray, put it on the counter, pick out a main, three sides, a dessert, slide it down to the register, pay, and take it to your table. At that point do you begin eating? No! Remove your items from the tray and they come by and pick it up. Now begin! You may be thinking "Soup Nazi" from Seinfeld but I assure you it didn't feel that way. Just the quirky way they run the place. The waitress did warm up after I was there a while, came over to ask where I was from, etc. And to try to convince me to come back for breakfast! This is cafeteria style, with everything prepared ahead of time and kept warm on steam trays. So how do they keep that fried chicken so crunchy and delicious? Perhaps the best I've ever had, the batter so crunchy you could probably hear me eating from another room, assertively peppery, the large leg and thigh pieces perfectly cooked and juicy. (White meat also available.) My sides were lima beans, turnip greens, and yams. The highlight was the yams: super sweet but not in a bad way, balanced by good seasonings. The beans were fine, a bit salty. The only disappointment were the turnip greens, too finely chopped and overcooked. The portion sizes were decent. Also included is corn bread. Two choices: baked or fried. Never heard of fried so I tried that. Interesting but a little chewy and not so much corn flavor; next time I'd get the baked. Finishing this rather large lunch was a challenge for me but I managed, while taking in the local ambience. I saved the dessert for later. Dessert? Yes. I was also asked on ordering what I wanted for dessert. The only one that appealed was the red velvet cake (the others were a cobbler and bread pudding) so I got that. I assumed it was included but when I paid I saw it was not. $4; no big deal. It didn't look that good, a thin 1 inch slice tightly shrink wrapped on a paper plate. Looks were deceiving. The first time I actually liked red velvet cake, a light crumbly texture and cream cheese frosting that tasted of more than sugar. With the amount of frosting this tiny slice was quite filling and I'm glad it wasn't larger. All this for a little over $21. I think this was including tip but I'm not positive. Either way, great deal!
