Lots of bad reviews for this place, but in all honesty, for this type of in-house financed used car lot, they are at the head of the pack! Any dealership that finances stricktly in-house will have inflated pricing, you aren't going to get an amazing bargain when you are financing in-house. You just aren't. They need to make money somewhere, and they aren't getting bank kickbacks or selling gap insurance, so their bread and butter is the profit on sales and interest. I have bought two vehicles from Dales, the first one was totaled before I got the plates, and they worked with me through the claim, and even let me roll my LoC over to a new vehicle. Everyone in the office is really friendly, and there's a family-owned vibe to the company. Definitely got a San Antonio feel to the place. A few notable things to the process, and I've bought two cars from here: Nobody is going to come out and jump on you to make a sale, roam around the lot, find something you like, then go inside and inquire. It was actually a pleasant experience to not be hounded or pushed by a salesman, but maybe that's your jam. I don't know. It isn't mine. No test drives until you've submitted an application. Serious and qualified buyers only I guess. The application requires a whole slew of local references, and they WILL call your references. They have a very thorough screening process, but they need to since they don't check credit. You also need to provide detailed financial information, not really a big problem if you're actually in a good position to be making the payments. All vehicles have GPS trackers installed with an ignition kill switch. They insist that all household drivers must also submit an application. I'm not really sure what the point of this is as long as the drivers are insured, but hey, they make the rules. The bottom line is they are selling cars to those who need them with probably less than perfect credit. They mark the cars up above market value, but they will get you into something you can make payments on. Everyone is friendly, and the process is straightforward as long as you can provide reference and documentation. The whole process start-to-finish was accomplished in a couple of hours both times I have bought from Dales. I normally buy from private sellers, but in all my experience with used car dealerships, Dales has to be the most pleasant experience I've had. No pressure, no tricks, no upsells here. read more

Getting into the car was the easy part, all the issues that followed have been a nightmare ! I've had the car for about five months and have taken it to their repair shop at least 6 different times for the same issue. The only person worth talking to is Gladys she's very helpful and respectful, Juliana and Nicole have definitely made me regret getting a car from Dales & Bartlett Motors! They don't call back within a timely matter, Juliana is extremely rude almost as if working there is a punishment of some sort. No customer service skills at all. Never smiles when I've greeted her. Never says good morning back. Unfortunately she's the one I have to deal with when it comes to getting status updates on my car. I dropped my car off Monday at 8:45 am and today is Wednesday!! Look. It's a BHPH, if you find yourself here you more than likely know why you weren't approved elsewhere. I'm not shaming you because I purchased a car for the same reasons. That being said, prices are astronomical , however in my personal experience I haven't had any Issues with the car I got. You'll need to give whatever car you get some love, You'll be paying 500 a month for a 15 year old car, but you'll have a car. if you KNOW you can manage it and get it right this time, these guys aren't too bad. Lastly, this place like many other small BHPH shops pressures customers to give a 5 star review before you close the deal. Take that into account when looking through people's reviews. read more

haven't had the car 6 months yet, the battery died, the alternator went out, the starter went out, they claimed to have replaced the alternator and added on to the already high biweekly payment for that and had my car for 3 days and left me without a way to work then when the starter went out they claimed they replaced it with a new one and added even more on top of the high biweekly payment then three weeks later the car wouldn't start again, that time they refused to help, Gladys was extremely rude and inconsiderate and stated I would have to pay for a tow and the repairs upfront and when I asked questions she yelled and states she not arguing with me like as if I'm beneath her so I call roadside assistance, they came and did a jump, that didn't work, so he tapped the starter and politely let me know that the starter and the alternator were not new nor were they replaced so they have been charging me extra on every payment for work they didn't even do mind you the car is a 2010 they are charging me 370+ every 2 weeks with a grand total of $20,000 at the end of the lease if you desperately need a vehicle pray about it, don't come here, the women in the payment center are rude George in whatever department is rude and mean as well and they will sell you a lemon for the price of something brand new. Do not go here. This place is set up for you to fail as they wipe check engine lights. Walked out with a nice car so I had thought only for the check engine light to pop up within 50 miles of me driving said vehicle. I purchased the vehicle and couldn't drive around for the first 2 weeks since that issue happened and they claimed that "old cars do that". They make their own insurance policy when you don't have one. With a low amount of years to pay off the vehicle they set it up for you to get reposessed. Theres other places. read more

We saw the ratings on this dealer ship and decided to give it a try. Was afraid but was approved. My husband was happy with his older truck. Until her had to take it back for over heating again and again it was understandable the first time cause it was older and maybe sitting and was under 1 MONTH!!! warranty... the third time was the last straw... and they fixed it with out any authorization... mind u my husband is a diesel mechanic and is well aware of the problem ... just very disappointed in the entire experience... no customer service... nor good experience. They let you drive off with a decent car but for a 2008 Honda accord I was paying almost 500 every 2 weeks. They add there own insurance if you can't find one & Come up with random fees. Paid to much money & should've got a car cash. Wasted my money here. read more

I haven't had a single good experience with them since I've purchased my truck. Not one good experience. It took over 4 months for me to get my plates and tags. Because the person who was gathering my bin number kept grabbing the vin from the door which had been replaced by another door, rather than getting the vin from the dash. Because of this I had to take off work 3 times to go over to there office on my gas, on my dollar, on my voluntary time off, for them to mess it up 3 whole times. To add some icing on the cake they kept lying to me saying that the vehicle just needed an inspection or that the gps needed to be checked. To top it off, they lock your account and suspend your ability to auto pay, and force you to pay a 5$ processing fee for their own mistake. Now my work place has been bought out and my pay schedule has changed as a result, and these people who declare themselves as "lenders" rather than a dealership (for legal reasons and avoiding lemon laws probably) can't change the date of my payments, EVEN IF I PAY IN ADVANCE. Their customer service is god awful with the exception of one lady, Juliana I believe was her name I could be wrong. It's an absolute displeasure to have to do business with them. And they act like we aren't fully aware of the buy here pay here business structure. Buying junked, or auction cars for cheap (simply because they possess capital) and skyrocketing the value of the car, and getting your money back completely with a down payment, but charging monthly payments crammed into a 3 year "loan" (lending money that was never existed) and robbing the poor by sky rocketing the apr, and forcing a tight bi weekly payment schedule, likely hoping people lapse on payment to then rinse wash and repeat. I pay my payments on time without issue, I pay in full without issue. You aren't a valued customer here, to them you are less than dirt beneath the ground. Likely won't be doing business again, I'm 7 months in my contract with a total of 14 payments of 280$ and a down payment made in full, of 2500. They do have some quality vehicles (by buy here pay here standards) though I won't lie, compared to other places, if you can afford it. read more

This is third time I have come to this place first time I brought what the ad says. Then I needed more info. So a week later I come back with other document. THEY LOST MY PREVIOUS FILE WHAT A JOKE. I had 30 min left before closing time! Nobody greet u or make u feel welcome none of that! Gave me app and say go home fill out and come back another time. I come back next morning 10:30 and app is all fill out and etc brought shit load a paper and still send u right out the door talking about we will call u well I got time and money and u still sending me out the door? The finance officer presented racist. I had all the requirements needed at first visit. They say they dont check credit, but was asking about debts on my credit. She created a formula that significantly cut my income from what I actually bring home. She inferred that I filed bankruptcy. I am a professional and I am very educated. The other staff looked uncomfortable by the way this lady treated me. Very rude, unrealistic, judgmental, and insulting. I do not recommend. She was the only person that was horrible. Everyone else was great. I guess she thinks she is in control bc she approves and denies finance. read more

We had a good experience at Dales located on SE Military, when we arrived, we were in the market for a Chevy Tahoe, I saw one I really liked, we were greeted by Albert (awesome man), he escorted us inside, the ladies at the front desk were very helpful, and guided me as to what I needed, I pretty much had everything, filled out application, then Albert and I went on a test drive, came back, I had put my spouse on the application and all that was needed was her signature, but she was at work, so we were going to return on Friday, well this is how amazing they are, my spouse got off early and I called the ladies at the dealership and they waited for us, we were able to complete our contract with signatures, and we drove out with our Chevrolet Tahoe. When shopping for a vehicle, a place that advertises a down payment on the window between $300-$500 should be a LAST resort. This being said, as a result of regrettable financial decisions in the past, and bad luck, I found myself at this place with just enough for a down payment, in desperate need of a car. When I first arrived, I wandered around the lot for five minutes or so before I went inside and asked for help. The place absolutely REEKED of cigarette smoke, and without looking up, the nicest person in that building yelled for a salesman, and from some back office I couldn't see, a man emerged and followed me outside. We spoke for a few minutes, and I found out that they do not report any payments to any credit agencies, but that they are working on it, and that I am not allowed to test drive the vehicle until I fill out an application. Well, I still need a car, so I'll worry about the credit agencies once I have a ride to work again. Alright, now to the really fun part. The application. On the application they ask the usual questions, then on the back you're asked to list any bills you pay. I'm assuming this is so that they can determine what you can afford based on your income to debt ratio. Cool. I've got no real bills aside from a phone bill so I'm basically the perfect candidate to get one of these cars, right? Nope. None of the information I provided seemed to be good enough for any of the women who were the only thing standing between me and a car I could absolutely afford. The one in the back held my application between her fingers like I'd just blown my nose into it and asked for more and more information. I did the best I could and provided references of friends and family with the most recent address I had for each of them, and was asked for my parents' information (since I live with them). I REALLY didn't want them to call my folks because I was a little ashamed to have stooped so low in my search for a vehicle. They were not happy with that, but began to call my references anyway. I phoned each person on that list and let them know to be expecting a call any second from this place and they were all happy to help. Five minutes later one of the women working there (while holding my application like I've now wiped my bum with it) tells me that they cannot accept the application because my friends don't know my home address. So, basically, an hour of my life has been wasted because I never bothered to give my friends my parents' address. It didn't matter that I knew their addresses, or that any of them could give accurate directions TO my house. What mattered was that they couldn't tell these people my home address. I've never left a review on anything in my life, but I felt compelled to do so after my experience here. I have a good job, I am well-mannered, and I had enough money to buy one of their cars. I was treated like a low-life criminal because I didn't have everything I needed to appease the manager of this place. In case anyone was wondering, I DID manage to buy a car that day from a different place that I found on my way back home. A place where they knew my situation and did their best to help me. read more
