I took my car to be serviced (unknown maintenance light). When I checked in (12:20p), they said it would take 1:15. I told them I hadn't eaten yet, but I could wait until then (1:35p). Five minutes later, they explained what they recommended to be done. I selected the items I wanted done and went back to the waiting area. No indication that anything selected was going to take extra time. About 10 minutes later (12:35p), I had some questions, so I went back to ask the tech. That's when I discovered he had left for his lunch break. A coworker helped me get the answers, so I sat back in the waiting area until 1:35p. At 1:50p, thinking the tech would be back from lunch, I went back to see how things were going. The problem was the tech was still not back. I asked his coworkers how much longer my car was gonna be. They told me it would be another 20 minutes. When no one came to get me by 2 PM (I was really getting hungry), I went looking for my tech again. He was still out to lunch and the coworkers said my vehicle was still being worked on, with no specific time given. I checked again at 2:30p. My service tech was still gone (it was now a 2-hour lunch break) and all anyone could tell me is my "vehicle was still being worked on." When no one had called for me by 3 PM and the tech had not returned, I went to the cashier station and asked to speak with the service or general managers. After about 10 minutes, the service manager appeared and asked me to come back to their office. I told them everything that had been going on. They looked on their system and saw my vehicle was still being worked on. They called back to the service bay to see how much longer it was going to be. They told me "35 minutes!" They then tried to admonish "me" for not knowing that the items that I had chosen would take "a couple of extra hours." I explained that they shouldn't expect customers to know their business and realize the items would add 2 more hours to the time quote given. When I asked them if it was normal for their service techs to take 2-hour lunches, they said that the tech "probably saw how long it was going to take my car to be done and he went to lunch as long as he could until my car was done." I asked them, "If he knew it was going to take that long, why didn't he tell 'me' so I could've at least gone home and gotten some lunch? Is that the way everyone there does business?" I told them their customer service was terrible and I was not happy! I was disappointed with the manager, because they tried to make the whole thing "my" fault, despite their tech giving me a time estimate, never updating it, and disappearing for over 2 hours! It sounds to me like the management there needs some remedial training on how to "treat customers right!" I find it ironic that all their marketing says how well they treat their customers, yet when they don't, they don't even recognize it! By the time my car was finished, I had waited 3 hours. When I checked out with the cashier (the cashiers were very friendly, understanding, and treated me very respectfully), they told me my car was waiting outside with the key in the ignition. I walked outside, where the car was supposed to be, only to find that it was nowhere in sight. It was "not" waiting outside. One of the coworkers made an extra effort to go find it. After a quick search, he disappeared back inside the building. Suddenly, someone drove up with my car. They were driving right past me, so I waved them down. The driver asked if it was my car and I told him it was, showing him my paperwork. I told him everyone said the car would be waiting for me outside, and wondered why he was still driving it around. He told me he "likes to test drive cars after they come out of the service bay" (that's fine, but everyone thought that that had already been done). To me, it was just another wasted 5 minutes of waiting around, wondering where my car was when everyone was telling me otherwise. All in all, this whole ordeal was one big hassle! This organization is disorganized, does not value its customers, and does not live up to its marketing!. I feel like I was just an inconvenience to them, especially when I spoke up and asked what was going on once I realized what they were telling me was not true. Instead of being there for 1:15, like I was promised, it took 3 hours! Had I known, I could have gone home and gotten something to eat (they provide shuttle service when you have a long wait). I was stacking up on car against another at another dealership, and Ibrahim helped me out. We got in a test drive, and we got to chat about numbers and such. They were eager to get me in a car, but unfortunately, I wasn't quite ready to buy. The whole process made me feel easy and low pressure. HOW RUDE!!!!!!! I make an appointment for 10:45am and when I get there they tell me the oil change and tire rotation will take 2 hours. What is the point of appointments if it takes 2 hours. Red McCombs Toyota does not care about their cutomers. Apparently my time is not something they care to consider. If they tell me an oil change takes 2 hours, then obviously they are double or triple booking the time slots and do not care about their customers' time. Red McCombs Toyota you need to wake up. My experience with Red McCombs Toyota was super frustrating. I got a Toyota SmartPath quote for a 2025 Tundra Limited CrewMax at $57,860 with 0.99% APR. Cool, right? Then I followed up and got... basically the same truck, but suddenly the price was higher with "add-ons" tacked on. Like, what? I had came for a service and it took about 2 hours, the attendant had came up to me to explain what was being done and the costs associated with that. I really enjoyed that they didn't overcharge me or make certain services seem like they are very much needed. I had an extremely disappointing and frustrating experience at Red McCombs Universal Toyota that wasted my time and money. I drove over 3 hours from Houston to San Antonio because I was explicitly told by Manuel ("Manny") and another salesperson, Mike Hadley, that a 2023 Lexus RX 350 would be sold to me for $43,000-$44,000 out the door. Manny told me the day before my drive that he had spoken with his manager and that the deal would be honored--but that it would not be finalized over the phone. Based on those assurances, I made the trip. Once I arrived, Manny took me on a test drive. Afterward, he came back with the "numbers," which were not the numbers we had discussed at all. He even showed me his notepad where the originally agreed-upon price was written down, yet he proceeded to act unsure and tried to gaslight me into believing the conversation either didn't happen or wasn't clear. Then Mike Chambers (Sales Manager) came over and attempted the same tactic--asking me for text message proof or verification that the conversation occurred, despite the fact that he had just spoken with Manny moments before. This was extremely unprofessional and insulting. In the end, they quoted me a price $4,000 higher than what I was assured before making the drive. This entire situation felt deceptive and intentionally misleading, as if the goal was simply to get me into the dealership and then change the terms. This was by far the worst car-buying experience I've ever had. A 3-hour drive was completely wasted due to poor communication, lack of integrity, and bait-and-switch tactics. The tire pressure sensors on my wife's 2017 Toyota Avalon stopped working. I did some review and found that the generic sensors tend to go out in a couple years so I decided to go to the dealer to get them replaced. It was going to cost about $1000 to replace them. They said I should also get the spark plugs replaced even though the vehicle had less than 50,000 miles on it. Since they were difficult to replace that was going to cost another thousand dollars. I did some research and found out iridium spark plugs do not need to be replaced for 125,000 miles unless there are some problems going on. They also suggested the fuel injectors get cleaned even though I was experiencing no problems. They suggested the radiator system get flushed. The transmission fluid system flushed. The oil get changed. The serpentine belt get replaced. The brake fluid get flushed and the tires rotated. Altogether it was going to cost almost $4000. I decided to just buy the tire sensors. from Toyota for $200. The manager at my local auto shop said they could install them but turns out they could not program them. I called around and only Toyota can program them. I took them back and they were going to charge me a 10% restocking fee. But eventually, I agreed not to. I brought the vehicle to Discount Tire. They replaced all four sensors and installed them for $200. They guaranteed them for four years or 48,000 miles. My mechanic checked the brake fluid for water contamination. It was fine and did not need replacement. They also checked my serpentine belt and said it was fine. Altogether I paid less than $500 for everything. I don't think I'll be spending any more time at the dealership. read more

I purchased a 2025 Sonata Limited in August of 2025, my sales representative (Johnathan) and finance manager (Ernesto) were deplorable, and I posted on the matter and reached out to the Hyundai Corporate Office: Other than telephone calls, the corporate office made no attempts to make me whole after that horrendous purchased experience, ironically their representative told me to use social media as a tool for justice. Henceforth, on September 23, 2025, my newly purchased vehicle was taken to the Red McCombs' Hyundai Repair Shop at 13663 IH-10 West, San Antonio, Texas 78249. Upon arriving to the repair shop, I expressed my concerns about getting my vehicle back in the same condition it was in prior to this repair, they took photos, and I took photos the same. I took photos because I didn't trust them, and I could feel their deceptive energy. Moving forward, I picked my vehicle up on October 3, 2025, at which time I indicated to the Service Representative Gonzalo that my vehicle was in a deplorable condition and the contrary of how it was when I brought it in for service. Himself and the Service Manager Patrick said they would wash the vehicle for $35.00, Patrick also stated to me that this is not a Cadillac Dealership and they don't provide that quality of service. In conclusion, my vehicle was severely scratched and the Manager Patrick (deceptive)refused to take responsibility, his justification was predicated on an unclear photo taken during the intake process of my vehicle. I countered him with a clear photo taken during said intake process and he refused to repair or compensate me for the damage (scratches) made to my vehicle. My wife and I went to Red McCombs Toyota last night to buy a used Honda CR-V Sport Touring hybrid that we saw online. I sent an inquiry in about the vehicle and a short time later I received a call(after receiving a text to ask permission to call me)from a salesperson asking if I was interested in looking at it. I was in Dallas at the time so I wasn't going to be back in San Antonio until late afternoon so I asked if he could hold the vehicle until we got there. The salesman, Max Mandavi, said he would and he would get the car ready for us to view. My wife and I were dreading the car buying experience because we've both had horrible experiences buying vehicles. For the most part the salespeople we had dealt with in the past were over aggressive and pushy but Max was the total opposite. What we were dreading turned out to be a great buying experience because of Max. He was fairly new to the dealership but he was very good at his job and the whole process didn't take very long at all. He was so helpful and had the car so clean when we got there. After agreeing on a price he sent the car to the service department to wash it again and put more gas in it. We are both happy with the car and grateful to have had Max as our salesman. I spent over 20 years as a manager with Toyota North America and recently retired. I bought out the company lease for my daughter's Venza through McCombs. I was very specific in having it checked out for safety and any red flags before buying it- as most fathers would. They had the car for an entire day and said it was fine. Within 3 weeks of normal driving two of the tires came apart and had to be replaced. The wear was evident once removed. It is readily apparent the car was not checked out and the dealership was more concerned with a sale than safety. Very disappointed and would not recommend this dealership. read more

i have been a mccombs Toyota customer for 5 years. Always had good service until yesterday, May 12. Took my rav4 in for engine coolant bypass valve repair/replacement. Roy Martinez was my advisor. Waited 5 hours then asked for a status update. Roy checked and said it was on hold because he need a certified technician to do the work. I was upset because I had not been given any information and nothing had been done to my vehicle. I did not appreciate Roy trying to put the blame on me because I was waiting. I was told over the phone they'd likely replace it for me for free. So frustrated with how this dealership runs their service appointments. And from the comments from the technician today, it's clear that they know their process is broken, but intend to do absolutely nothing to correct it and make it better for the customer. This Toyota dealership loves to advertise EXPRESS appointments as long as you make an appointment. However both times Ive made appointments for EXPRESS service I've been quoted a time of 2 to 4 hours when I arrive to check in for my oil change. Today, when I asked what the point of express service was, I was told by the man checking in that they "Try to get express appointments in and out in under an hour, but we always get backed up." Easy solution, don't schedule as many Express appointments. I understand being behind every now and then, but if this happens so frequently that you know you're going to be behind on every single appointment, make changes to your process to honor what you advertise so that your customers can plan appropriately. So about. two weeks ago I went in for my 20K. Should be an easy service since the car is newer and its part of their free services when you purchase your car with Toyota. You are supposed to receive the Multi Point Inspection paperwork along with a copy of all of the services completed for that day. I didn't receive a copy of my MPI. Yesterday my car battery died. They could've told me I was going to need a new one soon based off of the MPI. Also there was oil residue still on the valve cover. Which is an easy clean up but they didn't care to clean up. I was told they have two different machines that do the same job to check the battery only one gives a more accurate reading. But they went based off the one that doesn't do as good of a job with the reading due to the cells. I'm thankful to have gotten a new battery under warranty but they need better service. Moral of the story they lack any responsibility. They could've easily prevented all of this. They have no communication with their clients. The techs they have working in the back clearly don't care for their quality of work. I will NEVER take my car back here to get serviced. I've worked at a Toyota dealership and I know how things are but make it make sense. Mr. Frank, make sure someone is checking all of your lube techs work before their cars are sent out.
