When I came here on a random, spontaneous night out with my recently graduated friends on a Sunday night, as expected, the place was EMPTY. I think there was a total of 15 people in the bar, including the 6 of us. Even though it was completely dead, my friends and I had a blast as soon as we ordered drinks, playing some pool, owning the jukebox (playing some Gags and Britney) and dancing all over the place. BUT, I heard from my friends that live in Carlsbad that this place is usually POPPIN out of control on Fridays and Saturdays, so I advise you to avoid Sunday nights if you're planning to mingle with strangers. read more

Having been an on again off again customer at the saloon for 15 years or so I'm a bit amazed at some of the reviews. It's a dive bar. Of course it's old and not yuppie hygienically clean. It's a dive bar. Of course there are nights where the place goes off the rails, the bouncers over react and bartenders, owners, and pink elephants start shit. It's a dive bar. Of course young whorish girls all lubed up on booze get even more whorish. This isn't LA, nor is it Pennsyltucky. The single use of the Saloon is to go have drinks and whatever else happens. This is the type of bar that I enjoy. Relaxed, chill, not too crazy with just enough people that it isn't boring. The drinks were great and reasonably priced. They could do with some music earlier in the evening, but luckily they have a jukebox near the front which helped solve that problem. I was teetering between a 3 or 4 star review, but when it came time for us to leave (around 10:30 PM), one of the waitresses ruined the entire experience for me. I was standing near one of the booths waiting for my boyfriend to saygoodbye to others from our party and one of the waitresses purposefully slammed into the back of me with her tray which caused me to fall forward and it definitely did not feel too good. As she went through she said a sarcastic "Excuuuuse me" and rushed by. I don't think physically touching someone is ever okay, but maybe if I was being annoying and drunk I'd understand more. The fact that I was just standing there, completely sober I might add, makes for no excuse at all. Bummed by the Saloon!!! My wife and I used to meet here with friends and family for birthdays etc. for almost 7 years...... UNTIL.... the night before our good friends' wedding my then fiancé (now wife) noticed she had lost her engagement ring right before closing time (we had photos of her by the pool table with it on at 1:25am). Sadly, the bouncers were adamant about not letting us back in to look for the ring. When we wrote the owner on several occasions we received no reply, sad stuff. As a former bartender etc. I can't imagine not letting a couple (regulars even) in to find a missing engagement ring knowing full well they had 1-2 hours of side work to handle. I have been to this bar before during day and thought it was fine...I like dive bars and this is your typical dive bar. However, just went there last night (Saturday night) and the bouncer at the front door just started power trippin and was giving me a hassle about my MN ID which I have never had a problem with being here for almost a year (yes I'm going to get a Cali ID soon). He was acting like I was giving him attitude (which I wasn't) and he was sooo rude. I know dive bar's staff like to act like dicks b/c they think they are soo cool, but this guy was a complete asshole and I couldn't believe how he was talking to a woman. And the other bouncer was standing next to him laughing. 2 of the other guys I was with had Indiana ID's and they got in fine. The bouncer wasn't educated enough to know what a legit MN ID should be. So after he was being completely rude to me, my girlfriend said she would grab my other friends that were already inside (there were 7 of us) and we left b/c of the rudeness of this ignorant sorry excuse of a bouncer. So, long story short, this dumbass lost business from 7 potential customers b/c he isn't educated enough to know what a real out of state ID should be. We are in California..people come here from all over the world..get with it. So we went up street to 1st Street Bar (which the bouncer at Saloon said we wouldn't get into) and we got right in b/c the bouncers are smart enough to know what an out of state ID looks like. So bouncer at Saloon...learn how to do your job and not loose business that would be paying for your low salary. Sorry for the hostility, but I have NEVER been treated this way by staff at a bar before. I almost feel violated. After that experience I never want to go to this bar again...even though I liked it the first few times I have been there. The place seemed like a lot of fun until the bouncers kicked me out for nothing. I was the DD, I did not have a single drink. The bouncer did not let me close out my tab (one drink I bought for my wife), he insisted that he close out the tab for me. When I got my bill it was $56 (for one Amaretto Sour!). The bouncer forced me to sign the receipt before I could get my credit card or drivers license back. On top of that, when I checked my bank statement, they charged me $67.58 for a bill that I put 0 tip on (with intent of disputing from the start). This place is a fuckin scam. Fuck them. read more

Nobody calls this bar Daley Double. If you hear someone say, "Hey let's go to Daley Double tonight", then you know, they are not local, and I offer no apologies but they should not be allowed to visit. Not counting the Mexican bars I went to on the night I graduated high school, Saloon was the very first bar I had ever stepped foot in. I was 21 and it was 5 minutes from my house. To me, Saloon was the perfect bar. But then something happened.... my friend stopped cocktail waitressing, they took on a new owner, too many east county folk, too many marine folk, too many scenester folk, and not enough north county coastal laid back vibes. Yes, I ride my bike to get myself to downtown Encinitas on a Friday night, but when I arrive, I want to sip a cocktail, grab a booth and chat with my friends.... I don't want to have to worry about whether or not I have the latest Raybans on my head or Vans on my feet. I just couldn't do it anymore, I could not bring myself to wait in line for what was just another dive bar on the 101. However, a couple weeks back, that all changed. My friend and I are known for partaking in spontaneous adventures and after dining on sourdough grilled cheeses and sipping wine in a cup over at Keno's, we felt like our Wednesday night needed some added spice. When we arrived at Saloon, we were pleasantly surprised. Where the pool table normally lived, was a small stage with drums, guitars, mikes, and a single red spotlight. We chatted with the bartender and got the scoop. Dynamite Walls, a local San Diego band was scheduled to perform that night. We quickly grabbed a booth and set up camp. The band was so good, we quickly took note. North county needs a place for people to be able to enjoy a couple of beers and listen to some live music. North Park can be a bit of a drive and for all obvious reasons, Belly Up can get crowded. If Saloon hosts regular live shows with local bands, I am sure to be a true fan again. Takes about 15 minutes to get a beer and it's so loud in there they can barely hear you so one time I ordered a jack and coke, the guy gives me a PBR. Some corrections are in order. They used to be cash only but changed the system at the time of what I presume was a change of ownership. They now take credit cards and jacked up prices. Used to, you might get a buy back every now and then, but no more--and I'm always a generous tipper regardless. The place used to be quaint and quirky; you might find a DJ there on a Sunday night spinning something interesting. PCH in Encinitas has a little for everyone on the main drag for nightlife. Their's 1st street which is the divebar, D Street which is more club with the up stairs and the dancefloor. Then there is Saloon, which you'd think based on the name is a divebar too, but on any given Friday or Saturday it's just packed with a 30-60 minute wait. The music is usually less bangers, house and dubstep and more hold school hip hop. Bartenders are frantic to keep up with the overflow of patrons basically leaning over the stools and bartop. Dedicated bar-backs keep beers stocked and the bartenders when they get to you are pretty good, often times pour heavy when they know they have taken a tad too long. Boothes along the back wall tend to get crowded as does the back near the DJ and bathrooms. I seem to get the feeling that people that go here, aren't as experienced at bar etiquette. They just stand there. Dance, move over or get closer to the bar to order. Loud for the space. No dress code so you'll get everyone from "out the water" to the pre-party bachelorette party as far as dress. Security is good, but not Vape friendly. They should really just do away with the stools all together. They do a pretty good job of ventilation and now they make you smoke on the north side of the door. Seems like everyone knows someone and the lines get longer and longer. I feel like the crowd here is either North of Encinitas or from Encinitas, but never south. Neither good nor bad, but the drinks are more on the bar side of price rather than club side. read more

$23 for two tequila shots and a Stella. Not bad. Music was good! Small but tons of space. Danced all night in the back. Huge fan blowing which was nice! Got a table rather quickly but really didn't need it. Bar worked quick no pushing or shoving. Someone farted nasty so that was Yuck. Very cute spot! read more

The Saloon is a nice place to go and get a late afternoon cocktail, the Bloody Mary's are pretty alright. Thats about the nicest thing I can say about the Saloon. The women's bathroom has ONE stall and the toilet has overflowed 99.9% of the time I've been there. Most of the "regulars" at the Saloon are bunch douche bag skate guys and clubber girls. The bouncers there are always jerks, and for some retarded reason there's always a line to get in after 9:30pm!!!!!!! The Saloon is in dire need of a makeover. read more

I like the Saloon a lot better than I used to, and there are a lot of positive things about it. For one, there are large booths (if you get there early enough), and there is a patio, which is convenient if you smoke or if it is really crowded. Also, they now have "Dirty Mondays" with very good DJs (indie, 80s, some hip hop). Most importantly, drinks are cheap and strong, and the cocktail waitresses are friendly. The negative things about the Saloon tend to outweigh the good when I am there, though. For one, on weekends or busy Mondays, there will be a line that will seriously take 20-40 minutes to get through (even if it's not that long), and then you'll walk in, and the place won't even be that crowded. I swear the bouncers just do it to be a-holes on purpose and to make theh place seem cooler than it is. (But if you're a tore-up cougar, then all you apparently have to do is bat your eyelashes and ask nicely.) Then there's the bathroom... it's probably the most disgusting bathroom I've ever seen. The toilet often doesn't flush, and the door won't even shut. I usually have to ask some stranger if she'll hold it shut from the outside (and then I have to trust a drunk stranger not to let me flash everyone). My biggest gripe used to be that I would walk in holding the hand of my now-husband and get hit on three times in two minutes. But the meat market quality is starting to improve, while the uber-cool skater crowd is becoming more prominent. On certain nights, I'm not sure which is worse, but I think I prefer the latter, so the Saloon seems on the up-and-up. If only they would do something about those bathroom and door guys... read more

Best neighborhood bar in America. I'm biased though because I worked the door back in the early 1990's. When my grandpa would come out from the east coast in the 70's he would always stop by for a drink. Also I have always fancied the painting on the wall and my whisky just tastes better inside the saloon. read more

Met the love of my life here. The staff is super friendly, the bouncers are cool. Every time I go I see someone I either know or went to high school with. (Usually a good thing.) Left my purse in the bathroom once :/ and the bouncers helped me find it behind the counter which was returned by a wonderful sweet girl. Everyone who goes here is very good looking (I currently live in Chicago and so the over abundance of pasty, flabby Chicagoans may have lowered my standards a bit..) It's amazing to read some of these reviews and the foul accusations some people are making. I've lived in North County since I was 10 yrs old. My friends and I - the "soul friends" have been coming to The Saloon for years. Never once have we ever experienced a horiable afternoon, evening or night. We've been in the bar when there was two bodies in there and we've also been there when it's packed wall to wall with bodies. Never once did we ever leave feeling like we'd never return again. It's an awesome spot to come and chill with the North County coastal chill crowd. The bartendars are AWESOME (LOVE Joe!) and the owner is super chill & sweet. It's dirty, it's always crowded on weekends, and the men's restroom is disgusting, but on weekdays when it's up empty it's a good place to hang and shoot pool, etc. Bartenders are chill and generous with the drinks, the security is always friendly and professional.
