We popped in around 6:00 for a quick drink on a Saturday night. We had heard the hype about the oldest bar in town and so decided to take my visiting mother in law for a drink prior to dinner. We sat at the bar. Bartender was not welcoming or friendly. He did take our drink order in a timely fashion. There did happen to be an unfortunate prank - most likely from mischievous teens - they threw a stink bomb through the ally back door. The "loon" used to be my favorite dive bar. I've been there plenty of times for their good, cheep, strong drinks. However, the other night my options changed. One of the arrogant bouncers barley looked at my I.D., flicked it and put it in his pocket claiming it was fake. It isn't. He wouldn't give it back and after ten minutes I told him I was calling the cops and he was going to feel like an idiot taking a real I.D. Stiff drinks and is honestly one of a kind. Very old school bar that fits perfectly into Encinitas.

Hubby and I have been occasional patrons of this dive bar for several years. We've only patronized on Saturday afternoons, so cannot speak about the night scene. Bartender is always friendly and efficient. One thing we've noticed that we do not like...the alcove entrance that used to add a nice touch. It definitely kept the brightness out. Yesterday, the sun glare off the buildings across the street was so blinding that it caused a miserable ocular experience (and I was only drinking soda). Owner, you brought the pool table back, please consider bringing the old entrance back to keep the brightness down. It's not enjoyable for people like me with sensitive eyes. A home, away from home! YES the bathrooms are horrbile, but the service and COLD beers make up for it! I will say you will be treated like a king or queen as long as you follow a few KNOWN rules. 1. BE READY to order when the bartender comes to you! 2. Come on this place is crazy cool. The music is just a juke box but it has great toons on it. Yes the crowd varies from 20s to 50 year olds all having a great time and drinks are poured GREAT and if I recall 5 bucks! My wife and I are in our 40s and we go here a couple times a month just for great drinks. Get there before 10 and get a seat at the bar, by 11:30 this place is PACKED. read more

STEALING BARTENDER... a bartender added $6.00 to my tab. If I didn't keep my receipt and compared that to my credit card statement I would of never known! My friends and I entered the bar during a time when there was about 5 other people in the bar, not busy at all. After all of us decided on our drink order, we asked the bartender JOE (at least that's the name that is printed on the receipt) if he would play credit card roulette with us. He said sure, while handing him the credit cards, I explained how the game works. During this time he could really careless about what I was saying, looking off in the distance in another direction. Once he had all our cards in one hand he just threw them back on the table and grabbed one and walked away with a sense of moodiness. This wasn't the direction that I provided him on how to play the game. The bartender is suppose to hold all the cards behind his back, shuffle them up and eliminate them one at a time. It's a pretty fun game if you haven't played it before. So when returning to give us the bill he decides to come about 10 feet from us and throws the bill on the clipboard in front of me. Again, I could tell a sense of attitude and ignores us the rest of the time we were there. I don't understand what really transpired that cause the issue between us. He agreed to play a simple 10 second game for us, but that's not the point of this review. The problem I have is that Mr. bartender JOE stole $6.00 from me. Good luck ever getting a hold of someone on the phone. They NEVER answer the phone. ALWAYS take your credit card receipt from and compare them to your credit card statement. Arriving here early Sunday evening, I did get the impression this is where the locals frequent and take the claim of Daley Double Saloon as "their bar". Much like Western cinema, we got the scolding look from the obvious Encintas/Leucadia regulars that caught glance of us outsiders. As much as I wanted to purchase some tunes on the jukebox, I was a little timid to repeat my path past each of the booths to the front of Daley Double Saloon. Daley Double Saloon can surely be passed as a dive by virtue of its attitude and offerings of libations. You know it is a dive when patrons next to you at the bar are drinking Budweiser out of a can. Though they do serve Bud canned, there is an adequate selection of bottled beer and booze, no tap. All this means is next time I am bringing my koozie to have my long necks. As far as ambiance, it is dark, narrow, and gritty little joint. The music and crowd were both eclectic and chill. I would not say it has been the dirtiest or most extreme of dive bars I have found myself in, but it is a dive bar all the same. DD Saloon is what it is without apologies and that is why I enjoyed it. read more

If you took all of the worst qualities found in different bars and combined them all into one location you would have the Saloon. It's dirty, it's loud, the service is horrible, the drink selection is poor, the setup is bad and the bouncers are assholes. As if that wasn't bad enough, there is normally a line of people waiting to get inside on a typical weekend night. Why anyone in their right mind would wait around to subject themselves to this horrible bar is beyond me. I've found that I normally spend about 80% of my time in this bar waiting in line to get drinks and the remaining 20% is spent trying to speak loud enough to talk over the jukebox. Having a conversation inside the saloon is pretty much an impossibility. You basically just nod and smile and try and pretend like you can make out what the other person is saying. Finally, I get the distinct vibe there that if one were to turn on the lights suddenly about a million cockroaches would go running across the floor in all directions. I would like to thank DALEY DOUBLE SALOON bar for their above and beyond customer service and especially their manager Joe Tackett. He and his crew went out of their way to locate my 4month old receipt of a purchase I have made in their bar which I needed due to a problem I ran into. I asked joe of there was any way he can locate this receipt, he searched over thousands of old receipts to locate that 1 receipt for me. One can imagine the headache and frustration that can be. Their professionalism and communication surpassed any bar I have attended. Overall I appreciate their concern and ability to go out of their way to help their customers. This place is dirtier then a rat. I received a drink and in my drink was a piece of someones hair. How disgusting is that? I tried to take my son there and the "security guards" took his real ID claiming he was not 21 when he is 23. We have tried to contact the restaurant and the management staff has not even returned our call after three times. This bar is dirty, inexperienced, and disgusting. Complete rip off! I went there to grab a couple of beers with an old friend and the bartender flat stole money from me. We ordered a couple of beers and left the tab open. When we ordered our second pair of beers he said it was $9. I closed out after 4 beers and he charged me $21.75. I asked him why 2 beers were $9 but 4 were $21.75. He said there is a $2 service charge to close a tab (didn't mention that before closing me out but ok) so I asked what the other $1.75 was for? He just mumbled something about taxes and fees before walking away. I asked to see the itemized receipt but he ignored me. I could care less about the actual $3.75 but the blatant way they just stole the money even when called on it made me write my first ever Yelp review. So I normally enjoy going out in encinitas most of the establishments are great. However, tonight I experienced one of the worst forms of costumer service I have ever had! After waiting in line for well over 45 min, while moving forward solely by attrition we were the 3rd-5th people in line we watched as dozens of people without stamps nor prior entry were allowed in and were given no good reasoning why we were not allowed in. i went to this crappy bar with my wife and her friend this saturday night. My wife went to school with a girl who is dying of brain cancer and they were having a party for her here. When in got to the door i showed the bouncer my id and they let me through the door. I had not gone two steps inside when the bouncer pulled me back out the front door. They told me i looked drunk and had to leave. I had only had one beer earlier! I stood outside smoking and waiting for the bouncer to get my wife and friend so we could leave. Turns out the owner Leon, short fat bald and stupid, is the brother of the girl with brain cancer. He by the way is the one who told the bouncer not to let me in because i looked wasted and was stumbling. Once he found out my wife is friends with his sister he came to me outside and said he thought about it and I could come in. I told him and his bouncer F*** you guys. Leon promptly turn his back and waddled back to his bar in shame. The bouncer remained telling me he was just doing as he was told. I told him good luck with their business. This is the worst place I have ever been. The staff is extremely rude, especially there door men. One of them actually told me that he loved me which I found odd and disrespectful. Waited in line for over 30 minutes while the rest of my friends were still in the bar. I was told that they were "at capacity", yet 10 girls were able to walk in right away. so you dont get this mixed up, im actualy a bouncer here 3 nights a week. that being said, its a fun place. packed usualy by 1030, the drinks are cheep and stiff, and there is a touch screen music box that is always going. 2 pool tables and about 10 girls at a time in a bathroom that has only one stall. never did understand why women do that... i like it cause i get to toss out drunken idiots plenty and break up the fights after we close. if your a guy and you go here, there are more chicks on thursday nights but its usualy a fair shot friday and saterday. oh,and for the guys, you dont wana have to shit here. there is a trough (for those of you unfamiliar, a long porcilen bowl that you piss in next to another guy, unless your chicken shit then you hog the end so no one else can get in to piss) and a toilet. no door for the toilet. not a clean toilet. if you end up having to shit, go tp 711 on the corner. but make sure its an emergancy cause the place is always packed and after 1030 there is almost always a line of people trying to get in. its the usual beach folks here. guys who look like they havent showerd in a month of two, hair that i dont think ever saw a comb, shampo or a haircut, and a bunch of hot chicks that get really cleaned up for this place. I took my nephew there for his 21rst birthday, we bought many drinks, danced on the dance floor with everybody and had so much fun, then left and went down the street to get a pack of cigarettes at the 7-11, only to return to have some incompetent front man to tell me I'm to drunk to go back in and have a fun celebrating my nephews birthday, wow I thought thats what we were down here for, to have fun, celebrate his birthday and show him a good time. Unfortunately on my return from 7-11 I tried to enter back into the bar and was instantly handcuffed by an encinitas sherif that never confronted the situation to see what the problem was, wow! really you can put handcuffs on me and not even know why you are doing it? i NEVER write reviews on this thing but FUCK THIS PLACE and fuck the people who run this place. and not to mention fuck most of the people who go to this place. my friends play music there from time to time and unfortunately i make the same mistake every time and go. ive worked in the bar industry for years and can't even believe that this place is even still in business. bartenders are rude and take forever with a side of major attitude after taking 20 minutes to get you your budweiser in a can. security dudes can seriously suck my dick - i saw the bouncers purposefully start a fight with some dude who was just trying to get out of the door and get the fuck out. the bouncers have ALWAYS given me and my friends a hard time getting in (checking our ids multiple times even though they KNOW weve already been inside.) do your job right and just stand there and look like the stupid jar head you are. last night was THE LAST time i will ever go there. my friends band was supposed to play a full set and after ONE SONG they pulled the plug on their equipment. if you run a music venue you better fucking know that if you pull the plug on amps etc it highly affects the equipment and ruins it. if they wanted to cut their set short (due to a shitty dj who was scheduled to "play" after the bands) then the most respectable thing they could've done was shine a light on them or get off their lazy asses and physically go up to the stage and tell them they had to stop.
