Red Rooster sports bar has been serving the community of Oceanside for over 60 years. Even though they recently had a change of ownership, the new owners are also local and they left local management in charge. This effectively means that nothing has changed, and they are still providing some of the best bar, food and ambience, as well as drinks! They just cleaned up the bathrooms and a little bit of the interior decor. When it comes to food, the Red Rooster is known for their famous Rooster Burger. This burger is legendary within the community. I also love their crispy fries that are well seasoned. More recently, they have also added $.69 chicken wings on Wednesdays. This deal is available with the purchase of a beer. They also have cider available as well. Although they have a few basic flavors on their regular chicken wing menu, on Wednesdays, they add a lot more flavors to the special. These sauce, flavors alternate weekly, and it adds a nice variety. Most recently, I enjoyed the teriyaki, the bourbon bbq, honey mustard, general tso and my favorite is the lemon pepper. The interior looks much like a divey sports bar, equipped with one pool table and a few high-table seating available. There is also a backyard seating area with a fire pit, that is also fenced off. Overall, I highly recommend visiting the Red Rooster at least once to experience their burger, their chicken wings, and a small piece of historic Oceanside vibes.

This establishment markets itself as an inclusive, LGBTQ+-friendly establishment, but that welcoming atmosphere completely vanishes if you are trans. While the bar claims to be a safe space, the actual environment tells a very different story. During my visits, I have experienced blatant hostility, including multiple derogatory comments from other patrons. The situation escalated severely in the parking lot, where people yelled transphobic slurs at me and actively tried to instigate a physical fight. Management and security need to do a serious reality check about who they are letting in and how they enforce their supposed "inclusive" policies. Marketing yourself as a safe space means actually protecting the community, not just using the label for good PR. If you are trans or gender-nonconforming, please be extremely careful or avoid this place entirely for your own safety.

We've also had some of their burgers, tacos, and our daughter always gets a personal pizza. The personal pizza scenario is the only thing I have beef with here - you get a 7" plain cheese pizza for $12, and you can add a max of 3 toppings which cost extra, so in the end our kid's food is more expensive than ours. Hey Fat Joe's - pleeeease considering adding a small pizza to the kid's menu and price it closer to the other $7 and $8 items!! The interior walls of Fat Joe's are decorated with art and murals of all the most important and beloved features of our city. The bartenders are friendly and efficient - drinks are poured/mixed and handed off quickly, and food arrives at your table shortly after. Bathrooms are always well-stocked and clean. Parking is pretty much limited to street parking and while it is limited, we've never had an issue finding a spot nearby.
