A few weeks ago, we arrived to launch our boat, and there was no one in the office to collect the launch fee. Rather than leaving without paying, we left a $20 bill with a note. The launch fee is $12, and when we called the next day, we were told we had an $8 credit. Today, we returned, paid our launch fee, and asked to use our $8 credit. Unfortunately, the lady manager was incredibly rude--not only to us, but also to the employee working in the office. The tone, attitude, and overall way the situation was handled were completely unnecessary. We always try to do the right thing, and that's exactly what we did by paying even when no one was there. It's disappointing to be treated with such disrespect after making the effort to be honest. I hope Harbor Bay Marina takes customer service more seriously because no customer--or employee--deserves to be treated that way.

It was $3.49 for a dozen live minnow and $6.49 for a bag of frozen shad. $8 per person. $1 per additional rod. Bathrooms are pretty clean. The fishing barge is located at the end of the pier. Enter through the main store. There's an inside fishing area in the barge with a rectangular hole where you drop your line in. I didn't go there because there are people in there smoking up a storm. We fished outside at the end of the barge facing the lake. Be careful if you choose this spot because you can get your line snagged very easily, especially on the right side. 3 stars for paying $8 and no fish and also for losing 3 lures from snags.

Overall the river is clean but there were some spots where trash was deposited from previous washouts. I would try a run farther up river for a better experience next time. The staff was friendly and helpful but the rental equipment is definitely well worn and some in our group had problems with adjusting their seat backs and the seat cushions were quite hard after 1 hour on a 3 hour trip.

The lake is quite large and there are lots to do. From a walk around the board walk, to wine and dine. There is also a Cinemark on the grounds and a few hotels on same this side of lake. You can rent a canoe, boat or jet-skies. Even catch sunset with dinner on a boat. Definitely family oriented, there is not much for the night life. Sure hope that business picks back up, asi would hate to see this place go to waste. Several spots to pick from to eat from a Mexican, Cajun, American and Asian. Parking is a little tuff at times, you will find a spot eventually but you just have to circle around and walk further. They do have valet though, so that's an option. There is not much shaded sitting areas near the water so an umbrella is highly recommended, or a hat, but definitely plenty of sunscreen and water. The scorching summer hot days in Texas will have you screening if you don't. So pack accordingly and plan ahead.

Because we are new chapter, it is totally easy to make reservations on the weekend and brain-dead easy during the week. I want enough but not too many people to join so we can grow the fleet but still be able to book. They have 3 new boats arriving in May 2021, so we will get a nice upgrade from regular marina rental fare. I was considering buying a boat for my empty-nest life, but do not want to deal with: buying, insurance, maintenance, trailer, storage, cleaning, towing, launching, and I don't even have a truck, so boat club is perfect for us. I used a boat last weekend, and everything was super-smooth. Because I am club, they treated me a bit better, and most of the paperwork was done when I arrived. I also have a reservation for Mother's Day in a few weeks. At Don Pedro, we get the boat all day, which is 10 to 4. The full-day rental makes it easy to get to the other side of the lake and stop, swim, play, and chill without feeling that the meter is running at $100 an hour. The boat club has the same impact as a ski pass; it makes you more integrated with your hobby and takes away the pain of paying for the rental on the day you use it, so you don't really notice. It's a buffet; the more often you go, the more value you get. I bought the Captain's membership for $3000 with a $500 discount and pay $375 a month, so the breakeven is 7 days on the water in the first year and 5 days each year after. Also, the skis, boards, and tube rentals are free, which cost $65 a day each without club. For Northern California, you can use the club at Lake Don Pedro and Lake Berryessa. I heard they will open a location in Southern California, maybe at Marina Del Rey. You can also use all the other locations throughout the US.

Found a hidden gem for the DFW area that I wanted to share with you…read more I was out at Lake Ray Hubbard looking for a fly fishing casting class. The class was out near the water going over some casting skills. Ran into Larry on my way to find this class. Found out from Larry that he had an extensive fishing background, even fly fishing. Larry at one point was the fishing manager at Bass Pro Shop and in his early years had done lots of fly fishing up in the Rockies. Victory Fishing Events has different event on a number of different lakes on different days of the week. Normally the events have a two person team on a boat. On this Saturday they had roughly 24 boats out with having a two persons team. Now mind you, you have to supply your own boat, but what a fun way to join in! I always love finding hidden gems and folks that are truly into following their heart! I highly suggest to follow their website, for these events can change over time and locations!
