When I tell you I'm no stranger to this place believe me I'm not. I've come here since Bill Clinton was president, and its like this place has been frozen in time the exact same way I remember it. It only cost $8 to enter and fish as much as you would like until 6 am the next morning and $1 per additional poles. I've caught just about anything you can think of here, and if you have nothing to do all day this is the best spot. There is plenty of shade and its connected to a convenient store that has all the bait, snacks, and equipment you would need. The people at the front are very nice as well, no issues, and their prices are pretty fair for the fishing items, food might cost a little bit more though. One of the more impressive things is the cleanliness of their bathrooms. There's nothing better than having a place with clean bathrooms, someone here is doing a great job, keep it up!!! The ONLY negative and a deal breaker for some, are the spiders that live around this place. Fishing attracts bugs, and bug attract spiders, if you have arachnophobia, this probably isn't the place for you. Some are big, some are little, some are hairy, and some are bald, one of them even pulled a knife on me and asked for my wallet. The spiders here can be pretty daunting but none the less, they just want to catch a meal like you. Aside from that this place is legit, I recommend it!!!

A few weeks ago, we arrived to launch our boat, and there was no one in the office to collect the launch fee. Rather than leaving without paying, we left a $20 bill with a note. The launch fee is $12, and when we called the next day, we were told we had an $8 credit. Today, we returned, paid our launch fee, and asked to use our $8 credit. Unfortunately, the lady manager was incredibly rude--not only to us, but also to the employee working in the office. The tone, attitude, and overall way the situation was handled were completely unnecessary. We always try to do the right thing, and that's exactly what we did by paying even when no one was there. It's disappointing to be treated with such disrespect after making the effort to be honest. I hope Harbor Bay Marina takes customer service more seriously because no customer--or employee--deserves to be treated that way.

Found a hidden gem for the DFW area that I wanted to share with you…read more I was out at Lake Ray Hubbard looking for a fly fishing casting class. The class was out near the water going over some casting skills. Ran into Larry on my way to find this class. Found out from Larry that he had an extensive fishing background, even fly fishing. Larry at one point was the fishing manager at Bass Pro Shop and in his early years had done lots of fly fishing up in the Rockies. Victory Fishing Events has different event on a number of different lakes on different days of the week. Normally the events have a two person team on a boat. On this Saturday they had roughly 24 boats out with having a two persons team. Now mind you, you have to supply your own boat, but what a fun way to join in! I always love finding hidden gems and folks that are truly into following their heart! I highly suggest to follow their website, for these events can change over time and locations! Burton's was recommended to me by an old friends father who has always owned bass boats. Although there were repair shops here in town, I didn't want to take a chance getting stranded on the lake. What a fun group of folks to learn about fly fishing with here in Dallas area! Years ago I attended a fly fishing expo here in Dallas right off of highway 75, right near SMU, on the east side of the highway. I had two major highlights from that very fun fly fishing expo, even though I do remember that there was a lot to take in to my small little mind! The first was to get to meet, visit, and get a picture with one of my fly fishing hero's, Ernest Schwiebert! What a gentleman and a scholar, he took time to visit with me briefly about fly fishing and life in general, what a real treat! He was an architect first in his life and then started easing down and writing more about his passion of fly fishing. He first took up fly fishing as a small boy when he and his family lived in Alaska, and would just go out his back door to go fly fishing. In his schooling he went after architecture. I'm sorry to report he passed away around 2005, he will truly missed, but he did leave behind some great books! The second highlight of this event was getting to meet and watch another fly fishing hero of mine. Lee Wolff was a larger than life fly fishing hero of mine. It is probably the best thing that I have personally witnessed in fly fishing in my life. (Before I go further, I need to share with you fly sizes, the higher the number the smaller the fly. A size 12 is a nice size to be able to see on the water from a great distance. A size 22 is very tough to spot.) Now that evening, Mr. Lee Wolff was tying a size 28 royal wolff with his bare hands! Holy cow, most times folks tie flies in a vise. I know, if there is no picture it's not true, I am still look around here for that pic, but this was just unbelievable. Thank you Dallas Fly Fishers to put together such an event that brought true love of fly fishing to a young kids heart! Thank you again!
