    Full lasagne $10 on Monday
    Jacqueline H.

So I haven't yet tried the famous pizza of Dallas, but I don't have much interest in doing so based on my experience of the other food. I think I know what I'll get, and it doesn't hold much appeal to me. Dallas Pizza and Steakhouse is part of a dying (in the urban setting anyhow) breed of ubiquitous restaurants I can only describe as small-town Alberta. Or maybe rural-prairie, because they're all over Saskatchewan too, and Interior B.C. We had a place just like this in my own small hometown, run by a Lebanese family who were my neighbours. Dallas is run by a Greek family. Clean and run with pride, good for a fancy night out with grandma. It's a working-man's style pizza and steak joint, which is to say very Western style with huge portions, heavy dressing and lots of meat and cheese. Better than a greasy spoon in that it's clean and not totally cheap, but kind of akin to an Albert's with better seats and upholstery. Faux stained glass between booths, big curtains, printed wallpaper - you get the picture. I was not that hungry so I just had French onion soup. Pretty watery and tasteless, not that surprising. My bf had a lasagne which was a step above Chef Boyardee in quality and taste (i.e. - teeny bits of suspiciously textureless meat drowned in an oddly sweet tomato sauce) and unbelievably drowned in cheese. Food to have a coronary to (or a Corona! More on that later...). We shared a regular size Greek salad that was Greek salad with a lot of lettuce, not the amount of veg one might like - again very small town Western. Tons of dressing drowning what must have been an entire head of iceberg lettuce. It was huge - the server commented that it was smaller than usual. Lots of feta, and more than one legit kalmata olive - not cheaped out, very appreciated. The best beer they had available was Corona. The server was not very attentive, she sat in a booth folding pizza boxes most of the time, and didn't offer water refills or another beer for quite some time. Service was slow. Not dirty, not lousy, but not good old-school food with below average service = meh. I'm not keen to try it again. Maybe if someone else pays and I can bring my own beer.

I went back to Dallas Pizza & Steak House yesterday and this time I opted for takeout pizza. Gotta say, probably one of the best pizzas I've had in a long time. They have a few signature pizzas and build your own (obvz), but I went for the Greek Pizza. Olives, onions, fresh tomatoes, green peppers and feta cheese. I placed the order then went back 30 mins later to collect it. The lady who served me was lovely! She was super friendly and even gave my daughter a lollipop and a colouring sheet to take home. I told her I recently moved nearby and she gave me a menu to keep, I had no idea they also do deliveries! Great to know. Looking at the menu... it's a lot more than just pizza and steak, there's salads, pastas, donairs and burgers. I haven't veered from steak and pizza as of yet. But happy to know I can get a steak dinner delivered to my door ;) Back to my pizza.... I got a large for three of us to share and it was enormous. It is more like a deep dish pizza, all those toppings stashed under the delicious cheese! You can't pick any toppings off, which could be an issue for kids or picky eaters. Because the toppings were hidden, my daughter ate it all, including the olives! Even the base sauce was rich and flavourful. I can't fault it. I'll definitely be choosing Dallas over any other pizza place around. In fact, I'm eating the leftovers for breakfast right now, and it's still good.

Pizza with Jon and Dane. 30 minutes is a suggestion

I started the meal with the Don Vito cocktail, a spirit forward sweet concoction of Cognac, Bourbon and Limoncello. Immediately felt like it set the perfect tone for dinner. The tasting menu started with four appetizers, the Arancini, Goat Ricotta Crostini, Insalata Siciliana and the Culatello. My favorite was the arancini as it was packed full of melty cheese with so much flavor. The culatello was a crowd favorite and the crostini was a great palate cleanser. For secondi we had the Truffle Gnudi and Paccheri. For people who like meaty flavors go with the paccheri, but I liked the light cheese and truffle of the gnudi. By the time the Pollo Al Mattone came around, I could only manage a mouthful of the succulent brick chicken and the fresh cabbage salad as I was so full and would need to be rolled out of the restaurant. We ended with the Chocolate Budino, which was dark, creamy and delicious. A great tasting menu at a great price, especially compared to Toronto prices!

It felt like a busy bar during an important hockey game! The lighting was not the best and it was affecting the ambiance and vibe of the business! These two items bothered me a bit! The wine our friend ordered was really good and overall I enjoyed our food and drink a lot. I think this business has room for improvement! However I'll still go back there as it is!

Place has "very fancy" feel and would be good for special events/celebration dinners. Free bread to start was fine but not the best I have had. I prefer mine with butter but the oil/vinegar is probably more typical. We tried the: Calamari: 10/10, great texture, loved that we got 2 sauces to dip in. Fettuccine Tavolino (cheese wheel pasta): 10/10. Boyfriend was not too full after. Pasta was cooked perfectly. Nice cheesy creamy flavor. Ravioli Alla Zucca: 9/10, I can't remember if there were 6 or 7 ravioli in the dish. Very pleasing presentation. In my opinion too many sundried tomatoes. I love that it comes with sundried tomatoes as that added some great tang/flavor. Ravioli themselves were perfectly cooked. Brown butter sauce was excellent and wanted more. Creme Brule: 9/10, exactly as expected, definitely enough to share between 2 people. Affogato: vanilla gelato was 11/10 good to me but boyfriend didn't like the flavor. We both agree the espresso was excellent. Very small portion (too small to share!). Free cookies at the end were fine. Overall food was excellent and I'll be back but to try something different on the menu.

Violino, in an old home, its staff, and the food exceeded our expectations. We will most certainly be making a reservation the next time we visit the Oilers hometown. Damn that was good! Ushered upstairs, didn't really get a chance to take it in, so will be sure to stop and look around next time. The complimentary bread was great, the martini's good although one glass had far more than the other. I ordered the spaghetti bolognese, and although quite different from what we make at home, was excellent! K had the Alfredo flambé which was fired up tableside. It seems to be a popular option as it happened 6 or 7 times while we dined. They also don't soak you for the privilege of the tableside presentation. It was a little cheesy for K, but excellent nonetheless. Our server Eugenia from Hamburg was excellent, she can serve us anytime. She was attentive, and her timing was exceptional! We plan on making a reservation the next time we are in Edmonton. Top notch experience!

Server was nice but never refilled our table water even after we moved it a couple times to be within her view of the table (my friend swears he saw her see us move it to the edge of the table too). Rialto Float cocktail was nice if you like Pisco. Royal Jamaican Ginger beer was good too. Olive Calde - large portion for price. Olives were fine. Calamari - 10/10 delicious, dips were great too. Gnocchi with pancetta - 10/10, surprising filling and even though the Gnocchi were huge chunks they were well cooked. Waitress recommend Campanella Aragosta - 7/10. If you like spicy it's fine but otherwise the flavor is actually very bland. Pasta itself was unique and well cooked. Large portion. Beef Brisket Agnolotti - 7/10, 8 large ravioli filled with brisket. Sauce was good, ravioli were well cooked but brisket inside was pretty underwhelming. Friend who got this dish was ++ hungry still after and said he would order something else next time for the price. Funghi Cipolla - 8/10, it was as expected. Ricotta cheesecake - cheesecake itself was great with the ricotta taste but crust was soooo bad. So overly thick and dry and considering our waitress failed to give us water the entire meal it was impossible to eat (so dry). Date cake - Unfortunately they didn't have gelato as was advertised on the menu to go with the cake so whipped cream was substituted. Was told this only after we ordered and friend asked for the flavors of gelato. Cake had a few uncooked flour lumps. Flavor was fine but not as flavorful/spice-heavy as I hoped. Sprouts on top looked really messy but tasted fine. Overall not a seamless experience as I would have expected from an establishment of this caliber.
