This is a really lovely yoga studio. I have struggled to find meditation classes in the DFW area and the Saturday morning sound meditation class is wonderful! All of the instructors are really caring and wonderful. The whole center radiates good, positive energy. I always look forward to coming to classes because I feel so good before/during/after. It is a nurturing place with a wide variety of classes- power, belly dancing, meditation, beginners, ayengar, yang, yin. My favorite yoga class is Embodied Vinyasa Flow. It's a perfect mix of stretching, thinking, feeling, and relaxing. I 100% recommend this studio. read more

Nicole P teaches the most hilarious butt kicking classes. She is the only one in existence with her style, knowledge and training. I cannot get enough of her. I am addicted to her haha. The root of Ashtanga in Dallas started here with Jeff, now Dean is getting the Pranayama on. Keep up! Caroline operates with smiles while delivering perky butts and small waist with Belly Dancing and Vinyasa Classes. I met at another studio and when I walked in, what a delight to see her face! No idea she taught here. Superb! Jessica is blazing with knowledge. Profound! This is a healing center with fabulous community. If you are looking for heated Americanized Fast Paced Pointless Practices for a Type A with Egos, you will not enjoy DYC. For everyone else who understands the breath, the meaning, the healing, your satisfactory on the foundation and principles of yoga will overflow your sponge like it was tossed in the ocean. You cannot find a better core of people that will learn your name, and treat you with yogi love better in the DFW area. Parking is plentiful, security is on property. Love love love! I've tried yoga off and on over the years in gyms and local studios and just never really *connected* with it. Even tried it again 4 years ago with a friend that swore by it and still,, ehhh. It was more the HIIT workouts that left me feeling energized and accomplished. Well that all changed over the past 18 months. After a trying year of surgery, infections, loss of job, broken ankle, blah blah blah... felt the stress and drain of life changes. No amount of HIIT was helping me sleep. If anything, left me more tired, worn out and that ughhhhhhhhh I'm getting old feeling. After many sleepless night decided I need to do something.. researched area activities and found Dallas Yoga Center. $10 for 10 days of unlimited visits - and 60+ classes to chose from every week!! So no matter how late stuck at the office, get to the studio by 730p - set! Even if not adapting to life changes, I know I'd love these classes. The yogis are much much much more knowledgeable than any classes I've taken in the past. It's not just a *workout* it's educational. You're not just going through motions - you understand every move and the short and long term benefits. You learn how to appreciate every breath and how it feeds every cell of your body, how every stretch and movement strengthens you from the inside out. I really do walk in exhausted but leave energized and free of the day. Granted I've only tried 4 types of classes but it is truly amazing. And the people, guests and staff, make you feel welcomed and comfortable. It's truly a relaxed environment. Best part - it's affordable. Several pricing plans after you roll off the 10 day intro period. Plus - several educational courses (extra cost) and practitioners in the building ranging from reflexology to natural medicine. I've heard many things about DYC over the years and finally made my way over here during DFW free day of yoga during the holiday weekend. They had free sessions all day long showcasing different types of yoga practices. I chose vinyasa all levels to get a nice workout and stretch at the same time. It was fairly easy to get in and squared away even though there were a ton of folks there that day. The class was a little over an hour long, and the teacher was very knowledgeable and offered modifications for the yogi challenged. I left class feeling awesome and rejuvenated. Especially after doing lots of distance running and training for marathons my body is always thankful for the mind and body workout! So good for the soul. They have different memberships and offers/discounts so you can take a series of classes or just drop in when needed. The lobby is also pretty cool and fun to do some shopping after class. There's all kinds of books, clothing and etc. Plus all kinds of awesome teas with honey and to go cups! Try the lemon ginger one. I'll be back for sure! Thank you DYC! read more

I tried Dallas Yoga Center with a "One Month Unlimited Classes" Groupon in November 2011. While I cannot say that I did not like Dallas Yoga Center, I was certainly disappointed. PROS: - Priya's classes were great. She is warm and welcoming , and she went out of her way to work with me on my headstand after class once. - The reception area is beautiful. Between the antique wooden doorway, the calcutta day beds, and the incensed candles, it inspires an immediate sense of calm. CONS: -Yes, the reception area is beautiful, but the studios themselves feel like worn, empty YMCA classrooms. This was far from inspiring and, frankly, I felt a little cheated. -One of the other instructors (all I'm saying is that it wasn't Priya) completely weirded me out. During my first class, I found myself in Downward Facing Dog. As I looked back toward my toes, I suddenly found this instructor peeking his/her head between my legs with the biggest grin on his/her face. As bad as this sounds, it reminded me of The Joker in Batman. I was so startled that I almost fell flat on my face. He/she just grinned and stared at me for what felt like 5-10 seconds before feebly offering an adjustment to my pose. Needless to say, I stayed away from this instructor's classes thereafter. -There was a lot of soliciting to the newer students to sign up for 4, 8, and 12 week workshops at the Dallas Yoga Center in subjects such as "astrology" and "natural skincare." When I tried to politely decline, some of the staff and other patrons tried to convince me that I was not being a "true yogi" until I signed up for these workshops. I did not appreciate this, and I did not sign up for the workshops. If this makes me a "fake yogi," so be it. Overall, Dallas Yoga Center is not a bad place to do yoga, but it's not high on my list of yoga studios that are worth a return visit. read more

Im a fan of the Dallas Yoga Center since its walking distance from my house. What I think is different about DYC is that the teachers are veterans who focus on technique and safe practice. Im a fan of the Ashtanga class, but the majority of classes are geared more to relaxing yoga. What DYC is not? A young super trendy detox Bikrym fad. This is my favorite yoga studio in Dallas! They have $89/month rate for unlimited monthly classes which is great in comparison to many other similar studios (not including the donation-based locations). There is such a variety of classes for all levels, ages, abilities, etc (excluding hot yoga which you can get elsewhere). They not only have yoga, but they offer services like massages, acupuncture, reflexology, aromatherapy, etc. I am hoping to try a few in the upcoming months. I try to come on Sundays for their $5 community classes to get a quick Sunday yoga session in before the work week starts. I am never cramped in the classes where I am hitting the person's face next to me with my foot. Everyone who goes to the classes is friendly. I just love this studio and so glad it is not too far from me! They also have many workshops and teacher training classes if you are into that. read more

My favorite place to be. It's a sanctuary from negativity, aggression and crazy goings-on that one has to navigate on a day-to-day basis. It has lowered my blood pressure and helped me to maintain a sense of calm while remaining aware and engaged. I go home feeling peaceful and happier. Highly recommend it. I walked out of the Yoga for Women class today with a permanent smile etched on my face and a clear, calm head. This class was amazing, and I get the feeling so are the other sessions. Jessica lead us through stretching routine designed to stimulate kidney function while offering guidance and gently correcting form throughout the class. An hour and a half flew by, and at the end I did not want to leave. That's when you know you've found something great! I paid a $15 drop-in fee, but other monthly rates offer great deals and are well worth it. read more

Dean is a fantastic teacher, as is his wife Sarah, and the group of students in the Mysore program are some of the loveliest souls I've had the pleasure of meeting. Leaving this studio was the hardest part of my move. They have also stayed in touch and welcome me with open arms and hugs every time I'm in town. I love love love how the center is set up with the shop and the therapy section and the studios all in this unexpected office building. Beautifully done. I really enjoy the fact that the DYC is traditional with their practices and they have several practices to choose from. Everyone is very informative and helpful too. The only thing that I would want to change is to have another class other than the restorative on friday evenings, I like the restorative but would also like to have a moving asana practice on friday after work. All in all I love it here and appreciate their knowledge and help. read more

I attended a 2.5 hour workshop here with Paula Weithman on April 23. The workshop was fantastic, combining asanas with philosophy and meditation. I will definitely return. I love that the center seems to take a total approach to yoga - mind, spirit & body. They offer quite a range of special events, workshops & retreats combined will all sorts of therapies, treatments & classes. The gift shop looked amazing. I was sad that I didn't have the time to browse. I agree with the the previous reviewer : the Dallas Yoga Center is "Real Yoga from Real Teachers" - so much more than just a studio. read more

As soon as I attended my first class at the Dallas Yoga Center I knew that I'd found my new yoga home. Not only is there an incredible variety of classes to choose from, all of which are taught by experienced instructors, but they also bring in amazing teachers for workshops throughout the year. I recently completed their teacher training program and was blown away by the passion, wisdom and care put into the program. We received well rounded training in anatomy, yoga philosophy, yoga movement, and class sequencing. Jyl is an incredible teacher who has a deep passion for the therapeutic arms of yoga. Right now I go to the 12 -1 Yoga class with Sarah. I've done it both ways - in person at the Sammons Center and online. Sarah is excellent! She is an expert at explaining what we're supposed to be doing, which is very important for people with limited yoga experience like me. Her pace and tone of voice are excellent. I'm here on business, and I just took a wonderful prenatal yoga class here with Cheryl and really enjoyed my experience! The entrance to the studio is through a beautiful antique wooden doorway- the moment you step in, you feel relaxed. It looked as though there are three large, clean, and sunny yoga studios- in the back room where my class was, there were ropes and swing-type things against the wall that were so fun to use. They also had lots of props available (mats, bolsters, blocks, etc). The store is also great and seemed to have lots of yoga gear. I LOVE this yoga center. I have been practicing yoga for about seven years off and on and always thought I knew what I was doing, but I never was able to get into the inversion space or do more complicated poses, even when doing yoga 5-6 days a week. At least not until I stepped foot into this studio... I had heard about it from doing the fabulous free "yoga in the park" at Klyde Warren Park on Saturday/Sunday mornings and decided to take them up on the 10 days for $10 for new students program. I was floored. First off, every single instructor is incredible, they go out of their way to welcome new students and always ask if you have any limitations and need assistance. Each time I try a new instructor, I fall in love all over again with their method and car they show each and every student. This is not the type of studio that is about cardio yoga, juice cleansing, extreme heat and almost exclusive membership that I have experienced in the past. This team truly focuses on helping everyone find their center and bring balance to their life while learning how to grow in the art of yoga. I have had back, hip and shoulder issues for about a decade and I am suddenly gaining the strength to try inversions and the confidence to continue to pursue these goals. I can't say enough good things about this studio, it was not what I had originally been looking for, but it's exactly what I needed. read more

I started coming to Dallas Yoga Center about two months ago. I never did yoga prior to this experience. The instructors and patrons have been very welcoming. I feel very comfortable with the instruction and classes. I think all the instructors I've had so far have been excellent! I like the ability to go to multiple styles and levels depending on how I feel and what's available. I usually go to therapeutic with Cheryl (love her positive and nurturing energy) and Chris's restorative. I alternate between basic or fundamentals. All really great instructors. The fact that meditation (sound and mindfulness) classes are available is awesome too!!! I highly recommend this studio - quality and quantity... can't beat it! read more

This yoga center hosts free classes every Saturday at Klyde Warren park downtown dallas. I have gone only once so far but I love it!!!! The instructor was great. Although I am not an expert in yoga yet... the class was universally for each type of yogi person. Lol being outside within the nature's aroma while mediating was extremely relaxing. I recommend everyone go at least once. I would love to visit their actual center one day soon. read more

I have been going to the studio for a few months, and the classes are pretty great. Chris in particular is a wonderful teacher. But my problem is with the administrative side. I had purchased a series of classes, which I was not told were not refundable. We have to move unexpectedly, and I called right away to let them know I had half of the classes left that I would not be able to use. They told me the classes were not refundable for any reason. When I asked if they could refund at least one or 2 of the 6 I had left, the secretary said no and hung up on me. Atrocious behavior and horrible customer service. read more

If you're looking for healing of body, mind, and spirit, this is the place to go. I have practiced at several studios in DFW and none have compared. There are several rooms so that a variety classes are offered at peak times every day. My personal favorites are Embodied Vinyasa Flow with Carla and Vinyasa Mixed Levels. The instructors are very kind, thoughtful, and attentive to the needs of the students. They are not forceful nor do they criticize if the student is not ready to proceed with a pose/movement. I love that they allow us to listen to our bodies and do what feels good. The overall studio itself is aesthetically pleasing, calming, and welcoming. read more

I stopped coming here when I moved to a more distant neighborhood. Big mistake. I couldn't find anything that compares. I've taken several classes from several teachers at DYC... Meditation, Yin Yoga, Iyengar, Restorative. They're all top notch. My "yoga buddy" and I call Jessica's "Yoga for Women" ... "magic class." This place is the real deal. If you're looking for an authentic & spiritual yoga experience, this is the place to go. I moved to Dallas about a year ago and had done some Groupons for other studios around the city to try to find one I liked and wasn't satisfied. Then I looked to Yelp and knew that this might be the one! There are many studios in the Dallas area that seem more like a fitness center or gym, but DYC feels like a yoga sanctuary. When you enter this space, it feels sacred and looks beautiful. Every member of the staff is friendly and welcoming. I've always felt comfortable to try a new class and have never felt judged or unwelcome. The teachers, as well, are very authentic and knowledgeable. They all have a lot of experience and can provide genuine knowledge to help you find your body in a pose. Caroline in particular is my absolute favorite! I was looking for a yoga studio after moving to Dallas from San Diego. I am so fortunate that I did my homework and found a studio that resonated with my practice. I go to the Vinyasa Mixed Level class on Tuesdays and Saturdays and absolutely love it. My favorite teacher is Lisa because she really makes sure you have the right structure for the poses and fixes you whenever you need. But she's not intimidating like some of the teachers! I also really like that they provide blankets and eye packs for when you're relaxing, and the blocks and all materials you can think you'll need for yoga. I'm definitely coming back. Tip: If you plan to go to yoga a lot, get the 12 drop-in classes package, and if you're a student you can get a student rate! read more

All the stars aligned when Groupon offered a fetching month's worth of discounted Dallas Yoga Center classes. I was relatively new to yoga and Nicole Payseur was one of my first instructors. Nicole is truly a teacher; training students effortlessly with inexhaustible passion. Nicole skillfully applies softness or intensity when needed; balancing a stimulating practice while preserving the mind/body connection. The teacher-in-training class atmosphere encourages students to master poses mindfully, lessening a student's desire to bail or sit out a pose. With empathy and understanding that not all bodies are exactly the same, Nicole focuses less on pose exactness and more on self-motivated growth. Her playful environment frees Yogis from scrutinizing themselves, leaving students impressed with previously thought impossible feats. Mastering poses becomes quick work with Nicole's spright-like guidance to not dwell on how a pose should look but more on how tiny adjustments will ultimately lead to pose perfection and mind/body alignment. The simple, manageable skills elevates excitement to experiment in future classes with newly learned accomplishments. Because of her extensive knowledge, Nicole can accept requests and fine tune classes on the spot to pinpoint pain and perceived weaknesses. She is not afraid to interact with either her hands, heart, and sometimes feet (if your back aches for love and care). Nicole gives her entire self completely; intrinsically motivating students to match her energy and return the radiated love. As opposed to the predictability and routine of some other studios, Nicole doesn't mind moving her class out of their comfort zone; shelving the ego and embracing the unknown. Nicole stealthily advances students into trying things that might seem silly or too difficult, adding unique liveliness to each class. I now find myself more curious about Iyengar and actively looking for a Tai Chi studio. I've been a bit harsh on my body throughout the years, and Yoga is one of the few remedies that encourage noticeable changes without further damage to my joints. I can't believe I'm just now getting around to writing a review for DYC! I've been a student here for many years (and I'm not one of those people that loves to exercise). I used to stay fit with competitive sports, but after my second knee surgery (volleyball injuries), my doctor said I needed to stick to low impact activities. I've tried other yoga studios in the past, but I always return here. They have the best selection of classes and amazing instructors. DYC also offers a great selection of interesting workshops. I wish my schedule would allow me to attend more classes - I would come here every day if I could. It's a lovely studio and I always feel more relaxed just walking through the door.
