Was brought here by a friend as they knew I was a foodie and wanted to show me their favorite tapas spot Downtown in the Fashion Distric for an early birthday celebration. Cute building with lovely patio seating: from the trailing hanging pothos plants, Spanish tiles, to relaxing latin-house music the vibes were welcoming. I'm not much of a drinker though, when asked if I wanted to make my pina colada a "float" I thought incorrectly about ice cream. It was graciously explained that you take an additional shot of rum and float it on top of the drink or mix in to make it extra boozy. The pina colada is top notch they hollow out a real pineapple to make the drink and it's the size of your face! The watermelon cocktail was delicious and there is also a mezcal option. Tasted like if a watermelon aqua Fresca was combined with a margarita, there is a hint of salt that brings out the fruit sweetness. We special ordered a bunch of different proteins and vegetables at half portions to make a feast: Aguachile- Light refreshing starter, kanpachi perfectly marinated and great for the summer heat. Crispy potato- Phenomenally done fingerling potatoes. Whipped beans- Carnitas on top made this dish. Fried chicken tacos- Found the chicken slightly on the dry side, if there was a creamy/thicker sauce would be even better... nothing wrong with flavor, good mild heat. I did enjoy the fresh shredded cabbage and carrots, reminded me of bahn mi. Empanadas- Loved the acidity of the sauce that cut through the fattiness of the ground meat. Light shell. Crispy Squash flower- Delicate crunch, like an angelic version of a jalapeno popper. Lamb chops- Definition of "treat-yourself" luxurious meat lollipops. Celery salad- Simple dish but the lemon flavor and tartness really helped break up the richness of other dishes. Churros- Light crunch and small, petite dessert. The thin caramel sauce is addicting. Fine dining, for those special occasions or if you just want to splurge for a morale boost highly recommend this restaurant. We've probably been to Dama two dozen times. It's one of our regular spots and we love it. First of all the service is always great. The staff are lovely humans who really seem to care about their customers. We have some faves on the menu. The bean dip is fabulous and I'm addicted to the baby gem salad. They have recently amped up the filling in the delicious crispy squash blossoms and I love the acidity and heat. The fish is also a hit in my books. One dish that doesn't work for me is the lamb chops, which is a shame since it's my favorite protein. I've ordered them multiple times with clear instructions on temperature and have found them overcooked and tough. The beef tostada was just ok. Whilst I loved the pickled veg on the side, the beef was underseasoned. It wasn't bad - just not up to the standard of other dishes. The vibe in the place is welcoming and the restaurant is nicely appointed. We will continue to be regulars and it's really worth trying if you haven't been yet. read more

I brought my husband here for his birthday and it did not disappoint! Valet parking right outside the restaurant is $14 (they take cards) and is super convenient. We arrived early for our reservation which was no problem, they seated us right away. This is such a gorgeous restaurant! We were seated on the patio and the weather was perfect. At one point the heaters turned on, I asked for them to be turned off and they happily obliged. They have a huge bar and a nice menu of craft cocktails and flights. We each had a cocktail, I had a glass of wine, and he had their whiskey flight as well. All the drinks were great. Menu is a lot of small plates and a handful of entrees. We decided to stick to the small plates so we could try many different things. We ordered Whipped Beans, Empanadas, Lamb Chops, Fried Chicken Tacos, and Crispy Squash Flowers. LOVED IT ALL. My favorites though were the whipped beans - the crispy carnitas on top were soooo good, and the fried chicken tacos, which were very spicy but so scrumptious. My husband couldn't handle the heat and I gladly finished his taco. For dessert were ordered the Fluffernutter, which was the only thing we didn't enjoy much. The fried shell was bland, the marshmallow was way too sweet, and I felt it could have had more bananas for substance, and more salt to cut the sweetness. I was prepared to spend about $300 for this meal, and I was pleasantly surprised when the bill came and it was under $200 for everything! My SO took me here for Valentine's Day dinner and I would say he did a really good job:)) The parking was a little tricky since there was only street parking but we were still able to find one nearby. This area was in a small plaza with other restaurants and bars. There was plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. We sat outdoors but it wasn't too cold since they had heaters. The vibes were vibing with moody lights and really unique decor. I felt like this place is perfect for everyone since we saw lots of couples, even families and friends. I am so happy I finally got to try Dama! I absolutely love Antonia LaFasso so I've been dying to try one of her restaurants. Now when you pull up originally you might think, "am I in the right place" but once you park and get into the courtyard, it is LOVELY! Amazing ambience! There is a bocce set up, string lights. It is a little slice of oasis in the middle of the fashion district. The restaurant itself - beautiful. I couldn't ask for more. Absolutely perfect in my book. Beautiful plants hanging, perfect Spanish music in the background (any place playing Natalia LaFourcade is a win). The drinks were great! I had the jungle bird which was fun. Food was so good too. The whipped beans are the star! We had the guacamole which was tasty, great tostadas with it. The arepas were good but the pork belly was a little too fatty (I know pork belly is always fatty) to the point the fat muted the flavored for the arepa a bit, but still delicious. The empanadas were great and as someone who lived in South America and ate empanadas every day, these really took me back to my Paraguay days. The squash blossoms were light and perfectly fried. Unfortunately my friends had gone to Funke the night before so they were comparing the squash blossoms and Funke won out, but they still liked Dama's! Small plates were enough for the 3 of us. I went here a couple years ago and thought it was really good with good service. I went back last weekend and must say I don't know what happened. Menu is a little different and not it a good way. Service was a slow for the amount of people there. And one of the dishes came out so late we just took it home. We ordered the calamari, seafood paella, and fried chicken tacos. My daughter liked her tacos but they were pretty basic. Dama was wonderful. I highly recommend it. It is in the fashion district of LA which you would never know is there. They have a parking lot across the street that you can park at or you can drive to their valet. We chose the lot across the street which was secured with a security guard and very well lit. Once inside the restaurant is beautiful. It's so elegant and very welcoming. The atmosphere is really down to earth. There is a beautiful bar in the middle of the restaurant with tons of tables all around including a small patio for seating. We were a party of eight and I made reservations online. The menu is more like tapas, small plates that are able to be shared. Our server was very helpful in guiding us on how to work the menu. He suggested that we order lots of small plate items to share since there was eight of us, two of each item was best. It was perfect! All items were wonderful. We loved the Aguachiles, bread, arepas, whipped beans, quesadillas and guacamole. We had 3 more plates but by the time the last 3 came out, we were getting stuffed. This is a hidden gem in LA. With the romantically regal decor compliments the rustic Latin cuisine. The professional waiter's have a friendly do before asking motto. Impeccable service that matches the cuisine. I'm sure the menu changes often but don't skip eating at Dama. The arepa and chicken tacos were my favorite dishes. Everything was solid. Hint of spice that didn't tarnish the meal. Well seasoned meats and pickled veggies. Nice use of acid with certain meats. However the empanadas had too much of a cumin after taste and the dip was a bit too spicy but not heavy with vinegar balance. Lastly the churros were decent and soft but not sweet as I'd like. I will happily dine here again soon. Restrooms are back of restaurant behind bar. The price is sparse but worth eating fresh organic ingredients. We came here for Valentines dinner. The ambiance was so nice and modern. We loved the table we were seated at. The service was great. We started with the whipped beans, oysters, and scallops. The whipped beans are a must try. Our main dishes were the whole snapper and ribeye. My date loved the snapper and I preferred the ribeye. I had a good experience at this Latin American-inspired restaurant/bar! I visited this restaurant on a Saturday night for a friend's birthday and the restaurant wasn't too busy. Walking in I liked the ambiance and the lighting, a good spot for a date. I also liked seeing the central bar. There's both inside and outside seating, but my party of 3 did outside seating. For food and drinks, here's what we got: - Sandia Mezcal: A nice cocktail that was balanced with fruity and salty flavors. A good amount of liqueur as well. - Aguachile: As a raw seafood lover, this was tasty and I liked the heat and tanginess from the serrano sauce. It came with tostada chips which we did not realize you ate with the aguachile, but the chips themselves were good as well. - Lamp Chops: Nicely cooked and tender. Love the flavor of them and the fact that the fat isn't overpowering. Some of the best lamb I had so far. - Empanadas: These were good, but not mind-blowing. They kind of fell apart too easily. - Corn: Love how these were prepared street corn style. The corn was nicely cooked and I loved the creamy sauces and cheese they were coated in. - Paella: Solid paella. I liked how there was a lot of meat and toppings. Not the best paella though and I wasn't a fan of how mushy it was. Lastly, they gave the birthday celebrant some vanilla bean soft-serve to share it was it was sweet and refreshing. In total, the tapa-sized food does add up making this place a bit expensive, but a good option if you're looking for an upscale night out. The service here was good and the waiters were attentive. They made sure to refill our cups often and bring us fresh plates. For parking, there's valet parking, but also street parking. However, the street parking can be a bit dangerous since the area doesn't look very safe. Overall, a good experience here and I would come back for a special occasion. read more

My friends and I ate dinner at DAMA while visiting LA for a couple days. We've followed the chef & owner across Food Network for some time, so we were really excited to try her restaurant. We made a reservation, but depending on the day you may not need one. We went around 5:30pm on a Wednesday and the restaurant never got completely full. There is valet parking on the street outside the restaurant. It's $14. We went in with high expectations. While overall it was a very solid dining experience; if I'm honest, it didn't amaze us like I'd hoped. The service? Excellent. Our server was great. Professional, attentive, and very knowledgeable about the menu. The restaurant? Beautiful. Lots of plants and greenery everywhere. They had all the patio doors open to enjoy the evening air. The food? Great for most dishes, just okay for others. We started with the Aguachile, Crispy Squash Flowers, Corn, and Calamari. The Aquachile was fantastic but it didn't match the tostada ratio it comes with. We finished it with multiple empty tostadas at the end. The Crispy Squash Flowers were underwhelming. Not sure what I was expecting, but they were rather bland and oily. The corn was great! One of my favorite bites. The calamari was also excellent. She has calamari at multiple of her restaurants and does a fantastic job with the dish. Super craveable. Next we ordered the Rotisserie Chicken plate. The ratios on this dish are interesting. There's enough chicken realistically for 2 people, but a heaping mound of fries for 4 people. I love fries so I wasn't complaining. But there were 3 of us sharing the plate and I was definitely left wanting for more chicken. If I lived in LA I could see myself coming back. But as someone who lives out of state, unfortunately it just didn't amaze enough to warrant a return visit. read more

First time trying a Latin American inspired cuisine and I'm so glad we tried it out! They have an indoor and outdoor seating with open door ambiance. It was really cold that night and we were seated outside. It was nice to have the heaters on. I don't think they had anything indoors. My wife has been raving about Dama since she went for a bridesmaid dinner, and I've been dying to try it. We also love watching Chef Antonia compete on food network so it was awesome to try her cuisine! The ambience is warm and welcoming with a beautiful bar area and live music in the back. The service was excellent and staff were very attentive even as it got busier. The food was amazing and lived up to the hype! Every bite was meticulously crafted and packed full of flavor. We did not have a bad bite, in fact my wife and I are thinking of when to come back for more. Below is what we ate: Calamari 10/10 - I've never had squid ink calamari before and this easily the best I've ever had. The batter was light and crispy. The splash of lime, Serranos and cilantro brought in bright refreshing notes. Crispy Potatoes 10/10 - The smashed potatoes had a nice crunch on the outside and salted nicely. The crema on the bottom was the wow factor that complimented the chimichurri and took the dish to the next level. Beef Short Rib Tostada 8/10 - The dish is well crafted and refreshing. The short rib was cooked nicely, but it was just missing a kick to bring the dish together. Corn 10/10 - The corn is so simple yet it was perfection and packed with flavor. The cilantro like crema is a dream come true, and we wished we ordered the full size order. Ribeye 10/10 - They had me at dry aged bone in ribeye! Flawlessly executed, and I love how they served it with a lot of complimentary sides and sauces. Honestly, the ribeye was perfect on its own and was well salted and with a nice beefy flavor. I pretty much used the roasted veggies and avocado as a side salad. Fluffernutter 7/10 - Had to try dessert after having all the savory dishes. The dessert is huge, and we didn't expect it. I get the texture aspect of frying the outside, but it made it too heavy for me. Inside was perfection with the marshmallow, peanut butter and banana filling. I've loved watching Antonia Lofaso on TV pretty much since her Top Chef days so when in LA, I had to try DAMA. Boyfriend and I ended up sharing 5 small plates and it was just enough food for us. Of the 5, our favorites were the Aguachile and the Short Rib Tostada. They were punchy with flavor and did a great job mixing up textures. We also ordered the crispy chicken tacos which were piping hot on delivery. The chicken also had a nice smoky heat and I also enjoyed the nuttiness from the sesame. The ever popular Bread was also very tasty. The confit garlic with fresh tomatoes was seemingly too simple but packed good flavor. Last but not least, the lamb chops. Wooo, that was a flavor bomb but I did think it was a little salty. They also almost forgot this dish and we had to remind them so -1 star there. From the second we walked into Dama, the vibes were immaculate. It genuinely felt like we had been transported to Cuba. The lighting was warm, the space was lush and romantic, and everything from the tile to the music made it feel like a little escape tucked into LA. We went on Valentine's Day, so yes, the kitchen was understandably backed up, but the service? Exceptional. Our server was attentive, communicative, and so gracious despite how packed the restaurant was. You could tell they cared. Now let's talk about the food. The guacamole made us weep. I am not being dramatic. It was so fresh, so bright, perfectly seasoned. And the corn. THE CORN. I don't even know how to properly explain it other than it was outrageously good. Smoky, flavorful, addictive. Every dish packed a punch. Bold, vibrant, layered flavors across the board. That said, if you are sensitive to spice, just be aware that they do not hold back. Pro tip: skip the big plates and lean into the small plates. They are divine. It's the kind of menu where you want to order half of it and just share everything. I've been meaning to write this review forever. I rave about this place to every friend and family member, they've all gone and come back obsessed, but I somehow never got around to posting it myself. Finally doing it. The food is epic, some of the best I've had anywhere and the prices are actually reasonable for how good it is. I've had their ribeye (that massive, perfectly cooked piece is ridiculous) and their whole snapper is straight fire, super fresh, bright flavors, Latin inspired but spot-on. But honestly, half the time I'm just as happy ordering the calamari to share and making that the meal. It's crispy, flavorful, and that squid ink, pickled serrano, lime combo they do is absolute perfection. My kids love the calamari too (and that's saying a lot they're picky), so it's become our go to family thing here. The drinks are where it gets really dangerous though. Their Sierra Norte cocktail is one of the best things I've ever sipped smoky mezcal magic, perfectly balanced, refreshing as hell. And the tequila/mezcal list is next level. They've got stuff sourced straight from Mexico sometimes, so if you're into agave spirits at all, this is your playground. Tequileros and mezcal heads will be in heaven. The vibe is super cool (unlike anywhere else tbh) it's in this old banana market building in the Fashion District, so it's got that raw, industrial, slightly gritty charm mixed with sultry tropical lighting and lush plants. Feels like a hidden escape in the middle of the city. But honestly, it's really the people that keep pulling me back. This place is tucked away in the fashion district. Upon arriving, you can't help but to notice the warm, inviting atmosphere. I would absolutely keep this place in mind for a nice romantic dinner. The menu is majority tapas with a couple of larger dishes. I highly recommend the beef empanadas. The dough had a bit less crunch on the pastry and it sort of reminded me of a Jamaican beef patty. I enjoyed the mussels and chorizo and well as the lamb chops. The lamb was sadly overcooked, but nonetheless had great flavor. If you order from their drink menu, the drinks are excellent. Came here with my two besties for our annual holiday dinner. It was quiet, only a couple of other parties dining. Very dim lit, and romantic vibes. The bar area and overall ambiance was beautiful. Our holiday dinner is always a huge catch up and reflection on goals for the year so we're chilling for hours. lol Even after we paid the tab, we were there for probably another 90 minutes lol. And it didn't seem like a problem since there were folks waiting and it was pretty quiet that night. I was so excited to try this restaurant. I came here for my birthday dinner and chose this place specifically because it seemed to have something for everyone. It was okay, but not what we expected. There was no coconut flavor at all. My daughter and I both ordered one, and we had the same experience. On the other hand, my fiancé enjoyed his Old Fashioned. Food - We ordered small plates of the squash blossoms, empanadas, lamb chops, and bean dip, plus a large plate of the chicken. All the small plates were tasty! The lamb chops stole the show!! They were excellent. We all agreed that we've had better empanadas elsewhere. The squash blossoms were delicious and definitely recommended, as was the bean dip. The chicken was good not bad, but it didn't wow any of us. However, the sauces it came with were amazing. I just wish the server had told us what they were. The Ugly - And here's where things went downhill: the gnats! There were little flies or gnats or small mosquitoes swarming around us - it was honestly disgusting. They were flying over our heads throughout the meal. I had planned to order dessert for my birthday, but at that point, I just wanted to leave. We were seated on the balcony area near the hostess stand. If it hadn't been for the bugs, I would have had a much better experience, but that really ruined it for me. I just wanted to hurry up and get out of there. It was such a bummer, especially since I was hoping for a relaxing birthday dinner with dessert. We didn't say anything at the time because I didn't want to drag it out.. I just wanted to go. Didn't want that a part of my birthday memory. In hindsight, we probably should've sat inside, but since I asked the hostess to choose the spot, we just went with her recommendation. Would I return? Maybe for cocktails and small plates with friends, but that's about it. Definitely sit inside and hope there's not any bugs inside. read more

My husband and I ate dinner here tonight for Valentine's Day and it was the BEST decision ever. We've been wanting to go here for a while because we love watching Chef Antonia Lofaso on TV, and have been wanting to try her food for sometime. And it did NOT disappoint!!!! First of all, the service was excellent!!! Our server was Joshua and he was incredibly friendly, attentive, and anticipated everything I needed. I requested hot water with lemon and he stayed on top of refilling it without me even having to ask, which was so thoughtful. The food was also delivered with great pacing, giving ample time to enjoy each dish without crowding the table. The food was exceptional!!!! My husband and I ordered the following: Whipped Beans: Best dish of the night!!!! The pork was perfectly cooked and crispy! I never had anything like this. Bread: So delicious with high quality tomatoes! The bread was soft and so easy to bite into. Arepa: This was showstopping!! I did not realize how big the pork belly on the arepa would be. So delicious and tender!! Crispy Potatoes: Delicious!!! So flavorful and crispy, and loved the herbs and sauce. Guacamole: So refreshing!!! Had a nice hint of spice but was also very light. Nice dish to have to balance out the more rich dishes. The tortas were so good with the perfect amount of salt. Churros: Wow this just melts in your mouth!! The delicious sauce is like caramel. Great treat after an amazing meal. Cannot recommend this place enough!! The ambience was perfect and the staff were all so friendly. I was invited out with a group of colleagues that are doing a medical conference near by and they picked a great place to meet. The food and ambiance was great here. I loved the outdoor seating and music. We ordered the shrimp ceviche, corn, and a few various plates to share and it was all delicious. I found parking on the street but they do have valet for $14. read more

Beautiful and stunning restaurant tucked away in the fashion district, you wouldn't even know it was there. They have an array of appetizers that were very well presented and delicious of course. Drinks and the service were also great. I will be back. read more

Been here about 5 times and it's a solid place. Usually get the rib eye, seafood tostada, guac, potatoes. Last time we came we got the churro blondie sundae and wow blown away! Only gave it 4 stars because I will say it hasn't consistently been 5 stars every time. We've come on some nights where it's been a little off (apps are smaller portions or missing ingredients, rib eye is either under or over cooked). But generally this place usually hits! read more
