The other thing is that the food has the taste omg , you can tell it's got great flavor but sometimes they don't add what's needs to be added for example the nachos hardly had cheese so I had them send back. We were in town for a concert and our motel suggested Damian's which was just a short walk away. We were seated promptly by a very friendly hostess. Nice decor. Their beer tap was down so they were having their margarita's priced for happy hour. The chips and salsa were homemade and the entree portions huge. We took a lot with us to save for our trip home. Prices were very reasonable and service efficient (important since we had a concert to get to). Very close to the freeway for travelers and ample parking. Order a margarita, pina colada, or anything that you'd normally order on vacation, & you've transported yourself. They do flour tortilla chips in addition to corn. Love. The fajitas are a winner, as are the tacos & the enchiladas. My mom likes their tamales, & she's a woman that really knows tamales. If you ask me some of my favorite foods, I'll be hard pressed to give you types after one and two because in my book German and Mexican are all I need to get me through life. I enjoy bringing my cousins from German to great Mexican places since authentic Mexican food is a rare treat back in Germany and the bland Spanish food they get can't even touch what I experience. So, when you live in the land of great Mexican selection, you become picky and that is exactly what I am with the delights of Mexico. I can name off a few places that I absolutely love for Mexican food in a 100 mile radius of Central Valley and Damian's is on that list. I discovered it with a friend one day when he treated me to lunch. I ordered light, at least that's what I thought, but I was stuffed by the time I was done licking the plate clean. Those fajitas rocked! I quickly took note of the place and its location because, Jose, I was bringing the family back to this hot enchilada! Sure enough, my purple Birkenstock walked through the very same doors only a week later with my wife and three kids. We were quickly seated even though it was busy. Shortly after, our order was taken and - oh! - those yummy chips and salsa were dropped onto our table. I love salsa, the real stuff, not something with onions and tomatoes in it so white people can claim to like salsa, but something with a bit of kick in it. I prefer really hot, but this stuff is very good and more spicy than say, table pepper. :) We all had chicken enchiladas. Easy staple order. We all went with the green sauce to the waitresses surprise. She said it was unusual for young kids (my kids are 3, 6, and 8) to eat the green sauce. But Germans have a call to spicy food - horseradish and curry ketchup anyone? - and our kids have had flaming food since they could say "quesadilla". :) Not only could our kids stomach the snappy green sauce, I had to remind them not to lick their plate as it was rude. The best part of our experience wasn't that we all loved the food and that we were stuffed and had left-overs to remind us of our wonderful lunch their later. No, the best part was how inexpensive the bill was. While my 3 year-old shared with us, the rest of us all ordered a plate of food and we still got out of there for less than $30. Now, I am not a fan of 2nd day leftovers, so I'm definitely not loving the idea of eating out at the same 'decent' restaurant three nights in a row! But... 1) $2.99 frozen margaritas every (week?) night til 8pm. Good ones too, packing a whollop of booze. I usually prefer mine on the rocks, but $2.99! 2) A ton of shrimp options. They serve their large shrimp split and grilled with a variety of sauces. Some even come in combos, such as my 1st night choice of Res Tampiquena Combo - carne asada with green peppers, onions and tomatoes in a robust sauce with a side of garlic shrimp. Tasty! 3) Did I mention the margaritas for $2.99?? 4) Shrimp Nachos with green sauce! Everything we had was pretty damn good. Mix of corn and flour chips come out with the salsa. We began our monthly Tuesday Dinner with Moms for 2013 at Damian's. Neither of us have been here before and we were immediately struck by the lovely atmosphere. The staff is friendly and accommodating as we needed to make sure one of our party to get to a chair using her walker. No problem! Once seated we were handed a menu with so many choices it was almost overwhelming! Chips, beans and salsa hit the table and our server seemed to know exactly when to come back to take our order. No waiting! I ordered the shrimp quesadilla (Mazatlan) with red sauce. Our food arrived quickly - hot! - and tasted GREAT! I will come back. While I can't say the food here was amazing, the service was wonderful. I like the environment here. It's very casual and every now and then, the little puppets on the inside balcony start playing music and dancing around (and yes, I'm completely serious). The service is great. My cup was never empty for more than 2 minutes. Once my cup was empty, I was asked if I wanted another cup of water. And then 5 minutes later, a pitcher of water was brought to me. And they were like this with our tortilla chips too. No complaints here. My food was a little dry though (I got some sort of pork-beans-rice dish). However, I'm sure if I were to return, I would enjoy my food much more. read more

I was told by many people who come into my work that this was the best Mexican food in Modesto. We happened to be in Modesto last week and I suggested to my Husband...Let's try this place. As we drove by there were no cars in the parking lot. I said they are CLOSED....I decided to call and to our surprise THEY WERE OPEN!!! We had the Chicken Milanese and Chili Verde, which were EXCELLENT!!!!Not to mention it was Happy hour and we had to go all the way with another shot. Ok, so this is my second review. I went here on a whim due to some other reviews on google, the wife was craving mexican, and it was right next door from the hotel. I mean right next door. AKA Comfort Inn The food was AMAZING! I ordered the Chile Verde. It's hard to find a "good" Chile Verde. I must say, this dish was on point. The price is really exceptional for the amount of food you get and it's a very good amount. Now I docked it a star due to the service. It was ok, but for a place that was dead towards closing time. Our waitress only came 2 times. Took our order, brought our food, and our check. Only asked if we want more to drink after we were done with our plates. Other than that. This was the best surprise find off the highway. My shrimp was fresh and flavorful, the portions were huge, and nothing was greasy or generic. Both the beef flank steak in the fajita and the chicken were overdone and tough. I would have complained but I was on a time leash and I needed to complete several other tasks that day. Maybe the lunch staff is crappy or perhaps they just don't care to make a quality lunch. I just know I wasted my time and money on substandard food. I am going to give them one more chance because many of the Yelp reviews (all four or five) are positive, yeah I know the number of reviews is a big clue that this isn't a popular place. Went here for a friend's"s 30th birthday. The staff was accommodating with our table space needed and we were able to set up and decorate before the birthday girl arrived. I had a blackberry margarita and a combination platter with 2 steak tacos. My margarita was way too sweet and as far as my food goes, the tacos were OK, the rice was really good and the beans were bland. Chips were the best part. Not the best food Ive ever had, the service was OK at best considering the place only had about 3 other tables occupied. The prices were reasonable but I honestly wouldn't go here again.
