Taquería Lagos looks and feels authentic when you walk in. It has colorful decor on the walls, and a salsa bar. I find the staff, and the cook, friendly. I wouldn't say warm and fuzzy, but friendly. My favorite item is the bacon breakfast burrito. It's delish. My son loves the carnitas burrito, but you can't go wrong. The salsas are fresh, and some pack a punch. Their menu has a great selection, offering something for everyone, whether you're a meat lover or prefer vegetarian options. Overall, I enjoy the combination of a welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food. If you live in the neighborhood, it needs to be on your list. read more

Careful going here food is decent but cashier some short girl will tip her self with your card when you pay. My bill was $22 then realize I was charged $52 she tipped herself $30 when I came back to complain she stood her ground saying we tipped her the $30 thankfully the manager was nice and refunded me $30. read more

Been here a couple times but definitely the last. The manager made my son some food and wanted it plain, no onions or tomatoes and put it in anyways. When my husband called 2 days later, a girl worker remembered the order and apologized for the mistake and said that it would be remade. 10 mins later, I was ready to be on my way to go pick up the remake food due to their mistake, the girl worker called my husband back and said that she talked to the manager and he had said he would not make it again. Just finished eating a delivery from this place. It started out very boring. My enchilada plate was average and the salsa was a little bland. They cancelled the tamale in my order, so I was actually a bit let down, ready to write this place off as another, "meh." Then I bit into a sope. It was the highlight of my day. Crispy on the bottom and edges, perfect texture throughout, and packed with flavor. Delicious in every way and one of the best I have ever had. My mood went from neutral to happy in one bite. Overall, nothing was bad but I'll skip enchiladas next time. Those sopes, though. They are worth going back to. Been to this place about 4-5 times whenever I am in the area. This is Def the place I go to get a bite. So many options of food, whether it is something small or a large meal. My go to is always a rice bean cheese and sour cream burrito. Comes on a large Tortilla and it is delish!! They are array of salsas! And boy are their salsas good. They have a kick to them! Came here for lunch the first time the other day as it is close to my office. I ordered one of the lunch specials offered at this place. I had the two green salsa enchiladas with rice and beans. After ordering, my food was ready within less than ten minutes! The food was well prepared, warm, and super tasty! The only thing I would say was the downside was that there were a couple of tables that needed to be cleaned up. Still had dirty plates that needed to be picked up. Let me start of by saying I have been going here regularly since I moved back to Modesto 7 years ago when it was owned by someone else. Over the last 2 mos I have paid the following for a Large Menudo and extra order of tortillas....2 mos ago..$14 something...1 mos ago...$11 something...today...$18 and change. The menu states $10 however, there is a sign that has been there for awhile that states prices are subject to change. I can't fathom paying $18 for menudo, it is insane and no consistency with pricing. Update your price board and be reasonable, I love supporting small business but don't take your customers for granted. read more

Taqueria Craperia, Schrödinger's Cat, & a true Lunch Paradox! I have to say that the downtown cubicle-people crowd must be desperately deranged! Why do I say this?... well at lunch at this place, there is frequently a line, and it is crowded! It is crowded by deluded Cubicleoids who really seem to like this "food"! IT IS A FRIGGIN LUNCH PARADOX! Well I ate what they said was their "best" (best of what, I have no clue)...the "Carnitas" plate. The rice was too dry & tasteless and the beans tasted like right out a can. So then, to escape the harsh reality of my "lunch"paradox, my mind began to go quietly insane... Now the Carnitas (literally "little meats") was a shear paradox to me...I did not know what this stuff was (they claimed "pork")! It had the look and texture of a road-killed "Schrödinger Cat", who was neither alive/nor dead. Who was then scraped up, abandoned, and then allowed to desiccate in the Mojave Desert, until it was mummified, for a few centuries. During a rare dessert winter rain the "cat", was allowed to partially rehydrate. Then, Evil space aliens recovered the "cat" and took the "cat" to the biggest pile driver in the known Universe. They let the pile driver wack on this "cat" for approximately 2.71828 years (which is an approximation of Euler's Irrational Transcendental number). They then scraped him up again, strapped him onto a deep space probe, which looped around Pluto (just to further humiliate this former planet). After 3.14 eons (an approximation of another famous irrational number), the "cat" was ejected from the probes surface and fell through earth's atmosphere. Upon achieving terminal velocity, it became singed upon reentry. It then somehow landed and appeared on my plate in Downtown Modesto just the other day. I really need to become either a Vegetarian, or a "Harry Krishna" (and yell Harry Rama...Harry...Krishna all day)....but I tell you one thing I will never become ... that is a Downtown Modesto Cubicleoid! I moved here 15 years ago and have been eating at this establishment for as long . Although the watch has changed a time or 2 the food has gotten better each time . What I recommend is any thing pork or special of the day. I can't stand over cooked beef "carne asada" is not my thing . But give me lengua, buche, or shredded beef I am good all day any day, also any other stewed/braised style meats I'm on it . There civeche has gone from a mixto of several different like seafood ingredients to a shrimp only which I find better and more traditional. I like that I can order a deconstructed machaca with over easy or sunny side up egg with a side of mole salsa . It's in my neighborhood and I have and will always support . Never been ill Never had issues. I eat here 2 times a month on average . That's saying something . read more

Wow, just wow! We have been eating at this restaurant for years and it has been our consistent go-to for dinner. I have noticed recently that the quality of their service and food has gone significantly downhill. I am unsure of the young woman's name who has been working in the evenings recently (because she is new/different and the other woman is AWEOME) but she is TERRIBLE. She is rude and does not seem to know how to property take orders or communicate with customers. She is not a ray of sunshine either, does not seem to enjoy her job. Not only do they not seem to care about their customer service anymore, the cooking is nothing to rave about. I used to crave their food and now I cross my fingers it is going to be edible and/or correct. Most recently we ordered a very typical meal for our household, ceviche tostadas, tostada, and kid's burrito, not knowing they have raised their prices WAY TOO MUCH. I was SHOCKED at my total and when I asked about the prices the girl ringing me up would barely speak to me or look at me. I asked if they had an updated menu and she said yes and handed me one with all the priced BLACKED out. I told her well that does me no good, the prices are blacked out and just just pointed to their menu board and said "because they are all up there" in a very rude tone. I informed her that we would likely no longer be eating here and the prices were ridiculous, and this is before I knew how bad the rest of the experience was going to be. Not only have they raised their prices but their standards have gone down and the portions are smaller. We ordered 4 ceviche tostadas, and mind you, they are now $7.00!!!!! with extra avocado for $2.50 and we did not even get enough to cover 3 tostadas and there were 5-7 very thin slices of avocado, nothing extra about that. My tostada shell was burnt, yes burnt, and I could not eat it without gagging. I have had better sopes made at home with no knowledge of how to make them. The kid's burrito was cold and the tortilla was stale. I picked up right as they were boxing my food and I live 2 minutes from the restaurant yet somehow all of our food was cold, including the beans and rice. How a burrito cooled down so quickly is beyond me but it seemed like the food was pre-made and sitting under a heat lamp. I want to apologize for this long rant but the list keeps coming. Because they have been so good to us for years I wanted to speak to a manager to let them know of my experience so they were aware of how the restaurant is being run while they are not there, rather than post a negative review. I attempted to call in the morning and was informed (by what sounds like the same girl) that the manager was not in and that she did not know when they would be in and then she hung up on me. I called a few hours later and all I said was "good morning, I was wondering if the manager was available" and she did not say ANYTHING just hung up. I called right back, hoping I was just disconnected, but no one answered. I easily could be someone looking to see if they are hiring or to give a compliment. Obviously she is worried I will not be speaking highly of her. Needless to say, because of poor hiring chooses (cook and phone/register) we will no longer be visiting the Modesto location after 8 years of consistent orders. This was my first time here. I had a taco truck style taco with carne asada. The meat was very tender along with great flavor. The hostess is very welcoming, polite and very busy. Tables had some plates on it from previous guest but like I said the hostess is very busy and there was about 5 people in the restaurant. Horrible experience. I have been going here for years, and usually the food is great. New owners or something. The name isn't quite the same anymore, but it's very similar. We showed up at 7:45ish and you could automatically tell they didn't want us in there. I asked when they close, thinking I didn't want to be the guy that shows up at closing time. She said 9. So we ordered. I wanted to wash my hands, but couldn't until almost 8:00 because they were "cleaning"them. The same guy was preparing food, in between taking care of the restroom. It was the fryer, and nothing We ordered was fried, so whatever. When I finally got into the restroom, it was clean enough, but I immediately discovered the slightly off smell that permeated throughout the restaurant., When I got back to my table my food was ready. It wasn't what I ordered, but it was ready. They gave me beef instead of pork. Whatever, I was just going to eat it. Until I realized the beef wasn't even warm. Let alone hot. I was only In The bathroom for 2 minutes tops. Not nearly enough time for my food to cool. The cheese wasn't melting on the chips either. My wife's order was wrong too. I returned the food, and was offered to have it made right, by guess who? That's right, the guy that just cleaned the bathroom. Ok, this place definitely has the best burritos in town! After I got divorced, I fell into a deep depression. I wasn't eating, I wasn't sleeping, I wasn't doing much of anything. Then...I came here. The burrito revived me! It injected new life into me! I suddenly forgot about my ex-wife and her 30 different affairs, one that involved a college mascot! Ok, I am being overly dramatic here. Actually after I got divorced, I became a frequent customer. The lady behind the counter even knew my voice when I would call to place an order. The place is extremely clean, spacious, and very nicely decorated. The carne asada super burrito is fantastic! I cannot say enough good things about the burrito. Is giant, it's tasty, it's perfect! It's as if some devine being came here and dropped off a small piece of Eutopia (is this word supposed to be capitalized???)! I have also had the carne asada quesadilla and it's pretty damn good too but I am fanatic of the burrito. The price is not bad and you will definitely have some leftovers!
