Wow, this was a rough one. Stop by while I was in the area. Local sub shop that's been around for over 70 years. Sounds cool. Unfortunately, it's not that great. I ordered a pepperoni calzone. The women behind the counter were more concerned with a young man who came in to flirt with instead of taking the order, but when I eventually got a chance to, she wasn't paying my attention much. I grab a soda, that had been out of date for 6 months and was flat. That's the only reason this is getting a 2 instead of a 3, as they did give me a refund on it. When I got the calzone, it didn't look, or taste, good. The cheese was barely melted, the dough was raw, the pepperoni was like an inch thick and it was some of the worst pizza sauce I've ever tasted. It was like eating from a can of Chef Boyardee. Came through and ordered two subs: one Italian and one chicken salad. The bread was fresh, which was surprisingly nice. The chicken salad was pretty bland. This place is good for a quick bite. Stopped by the other day with the misses for a pizza. We asked if they had black olives and were snapped at by an older, overweight woman behind the counter, "WE HAVE BLACK KALAMATA OLIVES!" Of course these are not the traditional "black olives" that everyone is used to. I assume my question was offensive as they strictly adhere to true Italian customs when it comes to olives. That would be the only thing they are strict about because the "crust" was straight out of a freezer and had the consistency of stale bread, not pizza dough. The sauce tasted much like good old Campbell's tomato soup. The bacon was what we call "whole hog" bacon, meaning it's what's left of the pig when they are finished making the head cheese...skin, scraps etc.. It is the cheapest, laziest "meat" that you could laughingly refer to as bacon...absolutely vile. I assume you are not supposed to look too closely while eating it. I think I chewed on a nostril. I guess the bottom line is if you want a supermarket pizza warmed up and given to you with a pissy attitude, this is the place for you. Otherwise, look elsewhere...we are. read more

Paid 22.00 for a large sub that had only 5 each slice of meat 3 cheese slice a small handful of lettuce , absolutely Dissatisfied for 22.00 not worth it. I have been coming to Damon's since I was in high school and it was always on the way home from our longer games (and our bus driver liked it). As a kid, I did not appreciate this place- I think because all fast food was cheap back then in the late 90s. Since I've moved to central Maine and realized subway is more expensive than Damon's and a tenth as good as Damon's, I've turned around. They also employ local kids- the person in front of me was a teacher of the cashier yesterday who Are trained well. Thankfully Damon's is at a stop light (I have no idea where my school bus parked, it must have been less developed then, I would not recommmend parking f a bus there!) and they always have great parking. I also appreciate that you can sneak into it from meadow road and avoid western ave. The sandwiches are on homemade bread and they have real Maine Italians, with black olives, which are big enough to share a large between an adult couple. It's easy to eat there but you can also get take away. I also love the big Dave jr- that crust bread!! read more

Ordered the Chicken Parm, asked them to add some oregano. Great sandwich, they toasted it just right, and the chicken tasted great!

Were looking for something quick while driving through and this sounded good - so we took a chance. They have a small army of people working there and this is definitely a place where the locals go - which we love. Everything we had was good, a short wait and very fresh. We are on the highway and pulled off in an unknown town for something to eat. We saw Damon's and Taco Bell and almost went to Taco Bell, I'm sure glad we didn't! Damon's is absolutely wonderful. The food is fresh. The freshly baked bread for the sandwiches is amazing. The place was very clean and the service was fast. I got a pastrami sandwich and a cup of chili both were great! The chili was a little tangy and little hot and very good. My sweetheart had bacon lettuce and tomato sandwich and that was good too. The owner was there working and very nice. On our way back in 3 days, we plan to stop and have one of their pizzas because they look amazing. read more

My knees got weak because lobster is my kryptonite- I was not disappointed- I got the large and expected it to cost about $25 or so - it was $17.95 and worth about $30! Everyone was friendly and fun! ..and then came along the lobster roll. As resident Mainer here in Cambridge, my friends regularly ask me where my favorite lobster roll can be purchased. This question is terribly difficult.. I'm a whole-lobster gal and am generally disappointed anywhere that serves the roll. To best enjoy lobster, you gotta eat the whole thing.. preferably next to the ocean on a picnic table with a plastic bib around my front. Many people near Cambridge say that Neptune has the best roll but it's way too expensive for not a ton of meat. ..and then came Damon's. We are in Maine. Augusta. Not somewhere you would typically travel to unless maybe you're doing business or something. Or better yet: you live there. But the lobster roll at Damon's is hands-down the best lobster roll I've ever had and I don't think you could beat it. WHY? I will tell you. 1. Best bang for your buck. $20 for a 1/2 lb clear lobster meat sandwich. 2. They dress to your liking (you can get it plain, a little bit of mayo, a lot of mayo, whatever you like at no additional charge). 3. The roll at Damon's is so good and soft and you can get it toasted or not toasted. I was so excited about the different options and the kick-ass price, that I totally blanked on how I would normally take the lobster roll.. So I opted for light on the mayo and bun not toasted. My office decided to order from Damon's, which was great because I was craving a ham Italian so bad. Prices are reasonable, and while they do offer delivery, we picked up. My Italian was good, exactly how I wanted it, albeit a little salty (that could be the ham, you never know what the salt level in ham will be) and the onion rings I ordered were crunchy and flavorful. read more

Damon's has a steak sandwich (Loaded) that is so delicious that I went back the next day without my wife knowing and got a second one. Went a couple of times. Big, rubbery canned mushrooms on my pizza. I was shocked when the sausage on my pizza turned out to be Jimmy Dean. Brown and serve breakfast sausage links cut into little cubes. Maybe it's me, but my palette doesn't line up with their menu options. read more

Two strikes and you're out. I've been here twice and each time I've been terribly disappointed. This time I was very specific, plain chicken wings no salt, (last time they were so salty I couldn't finish them), meatball sub light sauce, well melted cheese. I opened the items to check, ran my finger across a wing and licked it. It was so salty it was like licking a block of salt. The meatball sub had a smattering of barely melted cheese. I got my money back on the wings, and left. The only reason they got a second star is that the sauce, bread and meatballs were deliciously flavored. Oh, their excuse for the wings, they boil them in salt water first. GROSS. If your wings need that much salt you need to find a new distributer for them. The chicken had so little sauce that I had to get the Frank's from the fridge and re-do it, and the fries were undercooked and cold. Another of our party got an open faced sandwich that was cold. This place does not look like a restaurant you want to order seafood in. Don't be fooled. GIGANTIC lobster roll. You are given a choice to have mayo or none, roll toasted or not. We opted for very light mayo and shared large basket. It was plenty for 2. Perfect and delicious lobster, well cooked and full of flavor. Good fries. They have a great variety of food to please even the pickiest of eaters. They have fried food baskets and burgers as well. I like the turkey italians with extra pickles. This is the best Lobster Roll I have ever had. Far from fancy, the basic toasted white bread bun, lettuce, and mayo simply act as a textural backdrop for the exceptional lobster. I was taken here while on business by a local, and out of all the traveling I did in Maine this felt the most authentic experience. For the record, I got the Lobster Roll Basket, toasted and with mayo and lettuce. The basket came with tons of fries and a very good coleslaw. read more

Employees were friendly, but the Ham and cheese sub sub I ordered was awful. My sandwich consisted of a thick slice of gross fake ham similar to Subway, american cheese of the packed supermarket variety, iceberg lettuce, in an oversized New England hot dog bun. It amazes me that an institution that has been around for so long would find it acceptable to use such poor ingredients. I prefer to support local businesses but, I wound up throwing the entire sub away and buying a new sub from Tim Hortons. It's amazing that a chain restaurant served me a far superior sub. read more

pretty good lobster roll! good amount of mayo and even a little bit spiced, unlike to more plain lobster rolls from places that hug the coast. we also got a big dave (italian sub [though it's on a circle bun, at least the smallest size]) and that was a pretty good sandwich too. the toasting really does it and their bread is baked daily. the people working there were also very nice and helpful with recommendations. read more

Damon's is a required stop for us when we're in town. Our family favorites are the turkey Italian sandwich, the steak and cheese sandwich and of course the lobster rolls. The rolls are soft and chewy and flavorful... so much better than chain sub shops. I highly recommend! read more

Stayed at Augusta, ME last week . My clients recommendded this place for lobster roll. It's really good. This place like a sandwich store or food market but with a simple dine in area. I ordered lobster roll to go and finished it at my hotel. It is really good, with lots of lobster meat and it was fresh. I'm not one for complaining I just bought small ham Italian 7/2311:15. I was very disappointed with three pickles two olives hardly anything on it. I have never had that problem at Damon's before. When talking with co-workers immediately they said that place had changed and not to order from there. Cost is to high for what you get from co-worker.
