Damon's is definitely convenient to the 44 area seeing as how it's the only liquor store in Smithfield that I know of. The only thing is that their selection seems to be limited ( just the basics) and the prices are a little higher then other LQ's I go to. Never going back there again, ever! Went with my friend, she went to look at wine and I went to look at whiskey. The cashier woman asked if I needed help, I said no just browsing. My friend asked for recommendation on Pinot noir and the cashier woman went over to her but not before asking me again "Are you sure you don't need help?" I bought a $50 gift certificate from Damon's for a friend for Christmas. When he went to use it, the woman working there told him the signature wasn't valid because the employee hadn't worked there in over a year. My friend called me and I described the employee. The woman then said that he was only working during the holidays and he didn't record the transaction correctly. I explained through my friend that I went in, he was behind the counter, and I paid for the certificate...it wasn't my fault that her employee recorded it wrong. She wanted my friend to come back the next day when the employee was working. Finally after 3 telephone calls she asked how I paid for it. She found the receipt and allowed my friend to use the certificate. This took over a half hour, and I was very embarrassed as was my friend. There are other liquor stores around, I won't go back to one that makes customers feel like criminals. read more

Horrible place , I show up 20 minutes before they close and this little angry woman tells me I need to hurry up or I won't be served , wth is that ? 1. If you want to close early close your store earlier 2. It takes less than 5 minutes to buy a 12 pack I should be ok coming in 20 minutes before closing 3. You're in retail , if you treat your customers like crap you won't have any 4. Went here on Good Friday (convenient for me on that day) for very last time. I am shocked more people haven't complained about that old, acidic woman employee. She must be a relative to be able to keep her job there as she is consistently cantakerous year to year. She berated a young employee in front of customers warning him that going to pick up his food for break is part of his break. The poor guy was totally embarressed. She genuinely seems to hate people and her job. Love the pointing feature as new age customer service too....WOW. read more

Damon's is good if you know what you are going in for, but I have been to smaller stores that have better service. Many of the staff will not leave the front counter and the ones in the isles are too busy to help you find anything. There is also one particular employee that I have heard complaining about other customers once they have left the store. Over all I would take the 5 extra minutes to go down 44 for the one-on-one service that is sometimes required when owning a liquor store. Addition: On a recent trip there a friend told me that when they complemented on a their new sign, he/she was told to get out of the store by the older women that worked there. VERY GOOD ESTABLISHMENT. The owner is a great guy please do not be too rough, on the store. Not every employee is great and everyone has their rough days so no need to say your never going back again. The owner is trying his best to keep his establishment going. It really makes you look childish act like adults if you will. I'm almost 89% sure they do not just assume you are stealing every store does these types of things they just want to be safe. I live in Greenville, so Damon's is convenient to my neighborhood. Unfortunately, there is one clerk there who is extremely rude to customers. I've gone in several times, but each time she is acerbic and condescending, and I have finally decided that I would rather buy wine and liquor in Johnston or No. Providence rather than to tolerate her fowl moods. Apparently this is one of the only liquor stores I have ever been to where they do not allow patrons to walk into, the walk in cooler. They are crabby overpriced and do not care about their customers. The owner Damon, is completely obnoxious and acts a thug in the store. They have nobody working the floor so if you accidentally do not see the sign saying stay out of walk in cooler....and you grab a quick package to bring up front he will flip out and scream like a juvenile in front of everybody. The old adage, the customer is always right certainly does not apply here. I rate them a zero and will not be doing business with them again. Check out B and C liquors, Kitsons liquors, or Chepachet wine and spirits if in this area. read more

I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 because my service was good by one of their employees the other not so much. I had first called them to see if they had this certain ale in stock. Jordan answered the phone and was very pleasant to speak with. He even asked me if I would mind if it wasn't in a cooler to which I replied that was fine as long as they could hold it for me I was on my way. I headed over to the store I get inside an see an older woman working the front register (I didn't get her name) she could've been an owner or manager but she was just very dry and somewhat rude. I greeted her and told her I had called and the young man I spoke with said they were going to hold the product for me. She then tells me oh you spoke to Jordan he's in the back. So I tell her what I was looking for and she tells me it's in the cooler in the back. So I had that way she then yells across the store telling me it's in this certain cooler labeled with the coors light logo. I look I don't see it I ask her which way she tells me again off that way so I look see other products from that company but not the specific flavor I was looking for which I assumed wasn't in there because the gentleman on the phone told me they were going to be warm. So I walked back up to the front to ask her yet again if she could call Jordan for me. She rolled her eyes gets on this microphone and calls Jordan and says " Jordan the lady you talked to on the phone is here to pick up the stuff she asked for" I was totally in shock by her lack of customer service. Jordan comes flying out the back and apologizes and gives me my product I thanked him as I went to cash out with her. There was a gentleman finishing his transaction and then I was next and then another person came behind me. The lady sees I'm next and says Oh, so you found what you needed and I said yes thank you she then says ID! And I said here ya go... I then went to pay for my order and didn't see the credit machine as it was laying on the counter off to the side next to many other things on the cluttered counter she then says "insert chip!" And I said I'm sorry I didn't see it... I go through the process and the receipt prints she asked if I wanted my receipt I kindly said no thank you and went to grab my things and she snapped and said "Oh no I know you're in a hurry, but you have to sign" just for the record I wasn't in a hurry and I wasn't aware I'd be signing on a small transaction plus there was a man waiting behind me. I just said "oh I'm sorry I didn't realize I would have to sign and she just came across so rude I said have a good night and left. OverAll place is well stocked a little pricy and Jordan was VERY helpful. That woman on the other hand was rude and awful! She needs to retire or find another profession... I don't know how she made it this long in customer service. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. waited in line to ask about a beer not on the shelf but could see it in cooler behind shelf's. walk in specifically stated employees only so waited in line to ask. cashier said he couldn't leave register to look because there were people behind me. asked if there was someone else to look he said yes but she is in the office and he seemed scared to ask her said he couldn't. this is the same retched older woman others have spoken of. asked to see manager he says she kind of is the manager. all of this with my 2 year old in my arms and my 5 year old in tow...needless to say I left with nothing and will never give 1 cent to this store. if the owner ever reads this just know you have a cancer of an employee who is degrading your business. What can I say.... The owner is a nice guy and so are some of the staff, except for the petite loud miserable black haired lady with glasses who seemingly acts like a bitch towards just about every customer that walks through those doors. I was mistreated by her tonight and so was my wife. This women has a terrible attitude and we will not be shopping there again despite it being closer than Macs. They used to know us by name there. I go in here all the time and she has the nerve to ask me how old I am. You've seen me dozens of times. Know you're customers. I know mine when I see them. Besides, selection on most varieties of beer and wine is not so great. Also looks like a warehouse with all those cases of wine in the floor. Not enough walking space. Does t matter, I won't be spending my hard earned money here anymore. Ps. I'm not the only one who thinks this lady is rude. It's well know throughout town. read more
