I'm picky about mechanic shops. I'm a car guy and I repair things that are still possible in a home garage. I replaced an outer tie rod and took it to Dan & Chuck's for the necessary alignment. They took great care of me. I needed to have the new tie rod greased (I don't have a grease gun). These guys could have charged me to do that... aside from buying a grease gun and the grease and then jacking it up again, I was kind of at their mercy. No charge. While I'm very much an on-time person, I found myself unable to make it until a half hour after my appointment time. They totally got me in and taken care of. Listening to them deal with their other customers... I always pay attention to how people treat people and they obviously care about all their customers. While I only had an alignment so I can't judge on their skills more than that... they did a great job and they seemed knowledgeable enough to handle any automotive repair. Give these guys a chance. There are too few good shops around and it's great to support those shops are. Thanks guys. read more

Went to get my exhaust fixed At Dan's Chuck's Kar Kare. As soon as I drove out the lot, I heard a weird noise coming from underneath my car. Took my car back up there to find out my front engine and transmission mounts needed to be replaced. There wasn't nothing wrong with my mounts and all of a sudden, I need this fixed. NEVER AGAIN! I paid $525 for an exhaust pipe, and got half of the pipe put on. And still need a windpipe! What a rip off!! Bad Mechanics and not trustworth. I would have gave them 0 stars, if they were available. My 2007 Jeep Commander was brought in for breaks and small anti freeze leak. I was informed the anti freeze leak was due to the Thermostat housing leaking. They replaced the housing and thermostat, I drove my car the next day and it started blowing antifreeze all over my car engine and started overheating. I brought it back to Dan and Chucks. I was told the radiator cap had to be replaced, so they put on a new cap. I drove it the next day, the car started to over heat again. I took it back to Dan and Chucks kar Kare. My Dad suggested that the Thermostat might have been installed backwards, "No! No!" they stated. I received a call back " something in the engine head has to be replaced? At this point I went up and got my car. My Dad managed to get to the Thermostat to inspect it, and in fact, it was indeed installed backwards!!!!! My Dad pulled it out, put it in properly, I drove the car a long distance afterword's , never over heated. Just for note to fix any part of the head would have cost +- $2000.00. Never again!!!!!! If I were you I would find another place, these guys are not very good mechanics or they are thieves or both. read more

The screwed my oil cap on cross trended and almost destroyed me car I was absolutely livid

My whole family goes to Dan & Chuck's! Came up here to get a few bolts taken out of my conversion van. It was in and out in less than 10 minutes. First, I took my van up to the shop on 7 mile & Inkster at 8am. I guess because my job was a small one, I didn't get priority. By 3pm my van was still sitting in the same place I left it. I called Kar Kare and within 10 minutes I drove away, job complete. I'm done waiting to be overcharged at other shops. read more

Very Very nice people. Brought my car for an alignment but he found something else was wrong. So he told me to get that fixed first and come back and he'd do the work. Came back over a month later and he still remembered me and what the problem was on my car. He did my alignment and notified me of some other things. My headlight was out (so I thought) and when they looked it was just loose. read more

We were in Livonia visiting from South Lyon when our 2012 Cadillac SRX would start but not keep running. It was a Friday night and Dan and Chuck's Kar Kare was open Saturday morning. Joe answered the phone when I called around 8:30 am. Joe told me to bring it over, so I arranged to have the car towed there where they would look at it first thing Monday morning. Well, I got the call around noon on Monday, and Joe told me they had found the MAF (mass air fuel) sensor was bad. I agreed to have him go ahead and replace it. That same day in the afternoon, I went to get the car, and it ran perfectly again. The bill for the work was very reasonable, too. I'm a very happy customer. I would not hesitate recommending Dan and Chuck's Kar Kare to anyone. They are fast. They care about you, the customer. And they know how to fix cars at a reasonable price. 'Nuff said. read more

545 for a starter motor for my truck, total ripoff! We were stranded next door at Value Center supermarket with a no start, no crank, had it towed in. I about fell off my chair next day when manager Joe called and told me I it would be 545 to replace the starter, which had been working fine without any problems before that. Maybe he knew he had me because I couldn't just come in and drive it away to another shop. I told him to go ahead, but I called around the neighboring area, and two other shops in Redford were at 280 and 300. The one at 280 was a NEW AC Delco with a two year warranty. So why don't you explain to me Joe, and tell the public here, why did you charge me an extra 265? Is it because I was stranded? Is that how you gouge people? Well after picking up our vehicle we went back to Value Center and the manager saw us and asked if we got our vehicle fixed, we told her we did it was the starter, she said how much, around 150? We told her the price and she was shocked too, and said she'd spread the word. I hope the owner of Chuck and Dan's Kar Kare reads this and realize that you don't rip off people in the neighborhood you serve, you're biting the hand that feeds you. read more

This is my first review ever but I had to let people know there are still honest mechanics out there. I was on my way to work and everyone around me could hear that my car sounded like it was crying. I pulled into the gas station directly across the street ,checked fluids,and had another customer try to help figure out what the horrible noise could be. He suggested I try to make it across the street to the auto shop and I did. Pulled in and the mechanic took it in immediately even though they were about to close. Turns out I had a chestnut lodged between the wheel. He showed it to me and was happy to tell me there was nothing wrong with my car and there was no charge. Car has been riding great ever since and I am so grateful for the honesty. This is my new auto shop! read more

I have over 20 years experience with Dan & Chucks. All excellent experiences. My vehicles were fixed right the first time, the prices were fair and the team provided great service. That being said: Dan and Chuck's has new owners (I wasn't aware at the time). I took my vehicle in for a check engine light. Was told it needed $590 worth of work to resolve the issue (included an oil change as well - not sure why). I agreed to the repair. Received my vehicle the next day, drove to work and home then got a LOW OIL warning on my dash!!! Pulled over immediately at the nearest station and checked the oil. No oil registered on the dip stick. I added 5 quarts of oil (no leaks by the way) AND the check engine light came back on. Took vehicle back, 'I don't understand what is going on' said the owner, 'I have never seen such an event, the mechanic said he added oil'. Common sense tells me I received 1/2 an oil change. There are no other explanations. Now they said the vehicle needed a mass air flow sensor. Reimbursed me for the oil and covered the labor for MAF but I paid the $75 cost for the part. Received my vehicle. Next day check engine light came on again. Took vehicle to dealership and they told me the turbocharger needs replacing. So the 'repairs' Dan and Chucks performed did absolutely nothing (except drain my account). I won't be back. You are risking your vehicle if you go here. This shop is incompetent and don't know what they are doing. read more

I don't know how good their service and repair abilities are but I can tell you about my experience with respect to a quote I received for having some work done on my vehicle. Recently, I went into their shop and asked for a quote to have shocks and struts installed onto my vehicle. I already had the parts. They did not need to supply any parts. The quote was for labor only (and shop supplies). I received a quote from Dan & Chuck''s of $468. I contacted 2 other companies in the area; one of the quotes was $ 280 and the other quote was $ 276. Based on my conversations with the other shops, they stated it would take approx. 2 hours to complete the work. Why is the quote from Dan & Chucks approx. $200 more than the others? Why are they charging approx $ 234.00 per hour for labor? Based on this alone, I will never use them. Make sure you get quotes from multiple sources people, otherwise, you could get ripped off. read more
