I replaced an outer tie rod and took it to Dan & Chuck's for the necessary alignment. They took great care of me. I needed to have the new tie rod greased (I don't have a grease gun). These guys could have charged me to do that... aside from buying a grease gun and the grease and then jacking it up again, I was kind of at their mercy. No charge. While I'm very much an on-time person, I found myself unable to make it until a half hour after my appointment time. They totally got me in and taken care of. Listening to them deal with their other customers... I always pay attention to how people treat people and they obviously care about all their customers. While I only had an alignment so I can't judge on their skills more than that... they did a great job and they seemed knowledgeable enough to handle any automotive repair. Give these guys a chance. I think it was a couple of hours later and they had isolated the issue to include other symptoms that I had heard. It was a complicated issue to do with the linear transmission as I learned and they kept me in the loop the whole time, I knew my car was in the hands of experts. I've driven this car for over ten years and the function of the linear transfer of power from the electric to the gasoline motor is precisely what the issue was as it is driving with the same feel as when it was brand new! When he called this place, the man told him $220, then would call back and change the price and say $ 300, and he would have to get corrected by being told you just told me $220. Then the man would say, "Oh yeah, right, $220. Mind you, this is only for 1 tire. I think that's way too much for 1 tire, but anyways, the car ended up being in the shop for 1 day (to change a brake for one tire). The man called in the morning and said, "These are the wrong brakes and rotors, so I used mine and changed the other one in the front as well, so it's gonna be $450 now." Auto Zone helped find the correct brakes and rotors for the car and even so NOBODY TOLD YOU TO DO THAT. Soon as the car is being driven back home, it starts to smoke. Now the coolant is empty (never ever had this broken before), so had to go to the gas station to get something for it, poured some into the car, and drove a little down, and it's smoking again and the coolant back empty, so it's a leak. I called the man multiple times once the car started smoking and he's denying everything.

I went to another mechanic who charged me $350 to fix the same issue. The other mechanic diagnosed the problem with my description of the issue and wouldn't have charged me $165 for the diagnoses. I'm not sure why there was such a price discrepancy. Perhaps they tried to scam me (as I'm not a car person and I don't know better) or their prices are simply outrageous. Either way, I won't be going back.
