My best friend's Mother service was here and they are horrible! They did were not responsive at all! They would not return my best friend's calls regarding her mother. Flowers could not be delivered to the funeral home. No obituary was done for the mom's family. Received one hour service and no separate viewing. The funeral Director stated everything was taken care of in a group email. She stated to call if you had questions and did not return a call. They were very helpful with the planning and the funeral. One of the staff did a but extra when giving the instructions for viewing the body but I chalked that up to his previous experience. Everything was fine until following up about the remains. When a family member called with a question, one of the staff (I believe it was a director) was exceptionally rude and unhelpful. Considering the nature of the business and the emotional status of family members reaching out, you'd expect a more respectful and helpful response from the staff. It was disappointing to say the least and unnecessary. Hopefully this is not the norm in how they deal with customers. read more

My 24 year old baby passed away from a car accident and full neglect from the subacute highlands hospital placed my son in which was alameda hospital. Okay so I calls Dan Scales to help me prepare for my son's funeral. I will never use this funeral home ever again and I advise you to strongly reconsider. I asked them to cut out like at least 6 or 7 of my son dreads they gave me only 2. Not were they only rude to my family but also rude to my sons family. Every since Dan Scales has thrown the towel in, Dan should've considered throwing the towel in all the way.. The people who he has working for him now, are not the ones to do business with period. This director was Very unorganized, they had no ushers were leading the guest to where they should've stayed seated. I purchased a signature book they never had it out in viewing site for people to sign it, and the director didn't even direct any guest to the signature book to sign, so now I just have a cheaply made signature book with no names or writing in it periodt. At the re-path everybody was asking me and wondering why wasn't the book out to sign. Most funeral directors greet and direct the guest to the guestbook to sign so that I can have for a memorabilia and also for me to send thank you cards to everyone who came and participated. The director was sitting at the desk, with other task he was completing for maybe another funeral because he damn sure wasn't doing anything for my son's funeral. His attention was not on my family or the guests at all. There was a huge group of guest standing near the front desk talking very loudly. It was the funeral directors job to guide the guest to their seats. Dan Scales I would've done things a lot differently, had I known things were gonna go all the way left. I constantly asked for the director to please give me the number to call for the doves for weeks, never got that number, so guess what?...We never got any doves or butterflies to release on the day my son was buried. We had an entire month for planning. We were charged full price for limo even though they never gave us a ride to the cemetery which is one of the reasons why we paid the fee we did. They were suppose to pick us up to drop us off at the funeral home, after the service they were to take my family to the cemetery, and then from the cemetery they were suppose to take my family home. Something came up so we couldn't bury my son that same day so for that matter we should not have been charged that full price but we never got any monies back. The director didn't have nothing ready, no books or binder was ever shown to us, except for 1 little booklet of caskets and they didn't show us all the other booklets. I just bought my son's casket elsewhere. I guess only the one he felt like bringing down the stairs.. Every time he went upstairs it took him forever to "run" and go get whatever else we needed to be buying. On the second scheduled appointment we met to talk about the rest of the plans and what else we as my son parents needed to do once this meeting was over. He continuously kept on running up and down the stairs because he never had his stuff together, very unorganized, in which I felt like we should've talked about all this once I released my sons body to you in the very beginning on the second meeting. He never gave me a list on things I was suppose to buy for my son to be buried in, until a week before my son's funeral and y'all know if you have a suit custom tailored made for your loved ones, it takes 6 weeks. My sister reminded me on what I needed to purchase for my sons funeral because the director damn sure did not. I was so far gone and not in the right mind but I knew the director we dealt with was on some get over type stuff. I absolutely was not in my right mind. I couldn't think straight at all. He the "Director" knew that, he played on that and when he knew he had us, he took full advantage of us during a state of vulnerability. I was still grieving as this man was getting over on me and my husband, robbing us blind and nickel and dining us to death with all these hidden fees, when initially he gave me and my husband a price for $3.2k, he stated to me that was the highest package with everything included but later on here come the fees for which was another 2k more worth of fees. I would not recommend anyone to go to this place if they lost their loved one. Also they could've did a better job on my son but they were too busy trying to rush the process. Be Careful of these funeral homes that don't mean you or your loved ones well. I would never recommend anyone that I know to these Mungry honeyvvvv Mf's...I do have pictures but their personal. Dan Scales handled my mother-in-laws funeral perfectly - there were no complaints from my husband's family. We lost our baby son in December and after weeks of broken hearts and thousands of tears, we decided to cremate his remains and asked for Dan Scales to place some of his ashes in two necklace urns for me and my mom. We gave them the necklaces along with the sealant to make sure they were secure. I assumed that they had done this before and when I got my necklace back, I put it on immediately. A few days later, the bottom half of the necklace fell off into my shirt. Luckily it was tucked into my pants that day and I didn't lose any ashes; I was able to screw it back on. HOWEVER, my mother's necklace fell off (because they didn't use the sealant AT ALL) and my son's ashes went everywhere. She was devastated by this. And I was livid. I went home and immediately checked the sealant that they'd given back to us and IT WASN'T EVEN OPEN. I had to seal my own necklace. I thought to call the funeral home and tell them off but figured that there was nothing they could do now. They could never right this wrong. Instead, I hope that everyone who uses them in the future will be sure that they do what they're supposed to do. This is completely unacceptable and a half-assed way to do business with people who have recently lost a loved one. Especially a child. read more

It was a tough and emotional time but we made it through it and if I could offer you advice I would definitely recommend Dan Scales Funeral home. I cannot say enough about their expertise, professionalism and reassurance. They guided my family through one of the hardest experiences of our lives and we will be forever grateful. After calling several other local places we were considering having my father buried without any kind of service and doing a memorial at home because of cost. Then we called Dan Scales Funeral home who was referred to me by a cemetery director. One of the best calls I ever made, they were not only compassionate and caring people they were reasonably priced. My fathers service was beautiful and they took care of everything for us. The funeral home is really nice and it looks like they just renovated. They don't advertise much but please don't hold that against them, I think that's what keeps the cost down. We want to personally thank Dan Scales funeral home from the bottom of our hearts for the care, professionalism, and respect they showed towards our father and our whole family. They were honest, caring, friendly and affordable. They walked us through each step and guided us as went went through the tough and emotional process of preparing for a funeral. I spoke with Eric the owner on the phone the day before my father passed away and he was compassionate, informative and reassuring. After talking to him I was relieved and had a weight lifted from my heart that when the call needed to be made I'd have a place to ask Hospice to call and know that my father was going somewhere where he'd be taken care of and that we could afford when it came to the next steps. The night my father passed away two strong ladies came to our house from Dan Scales Funeral home to pick my father up, they were caring, respectful, gentle and discrete. The next day we met with Andrea and she was amazing. She was knowledgeable and understanding of my fathers wishes. She has a great personality, she was honest and easy to get along with. She made us feel like we were family. My dad would have really liked her. She also had a great contact for flower arrangements that saved us a lot of money and looked top notch. Everyone was impressed with how beautiful the service was. During the service she welcomed my family in, handed out funeral pamphlets, pinned boutonnières, played our video and instructed the Paul bears on what to do. She was crucial to the funeral going smoothly and it went off without a hitch. She truly is amazing and I hope she knows how grateful we are for her assistance in this trying time. We also met Roland he came in and introduced himself, he was the gentleman that prepared our father for the service and viewing and he did a great job, our father looked so peaceful and at rest. The evening before the service he also assisted us in placing potted wrapped flowers around the casket and room that my father wanted people to take home and plant. He has a good eye for balance and beauty, he was friendly, funny and kind. Roland also drove my father to the cemetery in the most beautiful white Cadillac hearse with my dads flowers outside on top. And after the gravesite service he directed the Paul bears to remove their gloves and to place them and their boutonnières on the casket. He had also handed out flowers from the spray to all the family to place on the casket as they came up. Thank you Roland for your guidance on etiquette and your kind heart. The whole service although it was something we'd hoped to never have to go through, turned out to be a smooth and seamless process thanks to Dan Scales funeral home. Also the funeral home was recently renovated and was clean, nice looking and beautiful. The place held about hundred people no problem. My father passed away recently. We dont have life insurance. Dan came picked up my father and was very helpful in cheering my mother up a bit. We were told that he would give us a fingerprint and an urn word from his mouth. Now a couple days later we called back all that nice guy stuff was out the door he was charging us left and right for every single little thing. Things he did not specify before so now instead of an urn from dan I'm buying my own! Now instead of getting necklaces from him I will be buying and FILLING 6 of them. Instead of having my father's finger prints I'll have to find his baby prints from 50 years ago hopefully they'll have them somewhere. Oh yea and instead of him bringing my father's ashes to us we have to go pick them up. I called dan scales yesterday and the lady that answered the phone said "yes we are open on the weekend" now this morning I call and she says "by appointment only" I told her the situation that yesterday I called and someone said I can come this morning. It was one of the most Beautifulist, Moving and Memorable Funerals ever, aside of our Dad's 25 years ago, that was held at the same place, which was Formerly Coopers Funeral Home on 8th Street in Pittsburg, Calif. Mr. & Mrs. Scales gave that "Extra Personal Touch", that one needs during this most difficult time .They were so sensitive to what we wanted for our Mother. adding even more extra special touches for our Mother, that we didn't think of at the time. Everything, from the Moment we met the Dan Scales, to set up the Funeral Arrangements, The Procession we made from Scales Funeral Chapel with our Mother in the Hearst, Her Children, their spouses, the Grand Children, Great Grandchildren and Great, & Great, Great Grandchildren (approximately 140 Immediate Perez Family Members down 8th Street, to Raliroad Avenue, to 7th Street, to Black Diamond then to St. Peter Martyr Church, was so moving. He asked each Sister, if we would like to Roll the Casket to her Final Resting Place...My God...I thought..".How Blessed are we to have this wonderful Person to Include us as well.... Mr. Dan Scales included us Ladies to Mom's final resting place. ALL Sisters felt a TOTAL HONOR, to do this one last Honor, for our Mom.
