Came here for a friend's funeral. Seemed like my friend got a very good service. Parking lots located behind and on the side of the mortuary. Didn't feel like I was really greeted by any staff members. But I did see them walking around and running the ceremony. Viewing hall was nice and was able to hold over 100 people. They had TV screens all around and even outside the door too. Provided many tissues, a guest book to write in, informative pamphlet of my friend, and even provided food after which I didn't expect. Thought the charging station was helpful. There was microphone issue but it was fixed right away. A few of my friends were the pallbearers but it seemed like communication was a little confusing. Overall, I think they catered to my friend's family very well and was pretty organized. read more

Awful experience! Several major issues with this place, first it took over 3 weeks to receive my mother's ashes and death certificates. One of the certificates had my brother's name spelled incorrectly and would need to be amended which prolonged the process. We requested they cut some locks of my mother's hair before cremation for sentimental value and they didn't do it! And when we talked to director on the phone to address these issues he just hung up on us when we said this was unacceptable. So, I highly don't recommend this place. Disorganized and unprofessional. read more

I have nothing good to say about Higgins Mortuary after my recent experience. Too many things to list and how I was treated. Then the day I went to pick up my Husbands remains and that was another big issue. Then I bring my husband home with me and I took his remains out of plastic box which was covered in a purple velvet bag. The piece that locked the lid down was ducted taped together. Couldn't give me a new one but a used one/broken one. I filled out the survey they sent and asked for the manager to call me. Didn't happen. Then I called and spoke to someone and asked for Managers name (Marisol) to please call me. Didn't happen. Then I sent an email asking for Her to call me. Didn't happen. Horrible Customer Service And obvious they don't care And forced to now give you one Star. read more

Do not trust this funeral home for your funeral needs. They lack communication and follow through. They messed up our death certificate, did not communicate at all with the cemetery, messing up the entire ceremony aggravating our entire family. They were impossible to get a hold of or communicate with, they over billed us for their errors and still 6 months later still dealing with their mess due to the lack of their communication skills. Causing more heartache for the family. read more

How to describe a bad experience when already going through a difficult time. The person that was suppose to help us, 1. Told us we could few our loved one by a specific time and when I showed up they were not ready. Had to wait close to 30 extra minutes. 2 we sent all the song and pictures more than a few days in advance. And only a handful of pictures where put up. By a handful I mean maybe like 15% of what we sent. And NONE of the songs we emailed were played. 3. Send the obituary also in advance and to this day after calling multiple times and being told it will be put up still hasn't been put up as well as they put obituary picture of their choice and not what we sent it. Do not recommend this place to anyone. There's no going back, you can only put your loved one to rest once and this place makes sure your experience goes from bad to worse. read more

I do not even know where to begin. Dealing with the loss of my mother has been the most stressful and saddest part of my life. My mother was transported to here from the hospital because they have a contract with them. From my first phone call this was already the warning sign that this place is not professional or sympathetic at all. It's all about the highest price with them. I had another funeral home pick up my mother and they were 30% of this place cost. And from my first phone call to another provider they were so nice and sweet during this difficult time. My family was given an inexperienced person to work with by the name of Mila. Her lack of compassion towards my family is baffling. We were lied to about when my brothers body would be at the chapel and instead of saying they were sorry we were told that Mila doesn't understand the processes yet. When asked to work with someone else we basically were told no. We told them that they don't care about our feelings and Anthony(another person who works there) sarcastically said, "You're right I dont care." I work with patients on a daily basis. No matter what they say there is a manner of professionalism that I have to keep. If you can't do that then it's not the job for you! Anthony would be fired if he worked at my hospital point blank. Just want to let you know that if you are grieving to look elsewhere or be ready for more tears! read more

Higgins Chapel was extremely helpful during a very sad, stressful time. Susana was very polite, patient and explained everything to me in detail so that I would understand the process during this difficult time for my family and I. My father was cremated, so she also let me know his whereabouts at all times (Higgins Chapel, crematorium, back to Higgins) I think the most touching part of it all, is when I went to pick up my dads ashes. Higgins Chapel was extremely accommodating when it came to the sudden passing of my mom. My dad contacted multiple funeral homes and chose Higgins because of the modest pricing and better reviews. Darren coordinated the viewing, funeral mass, and burial. He was truly genuine and empathetic to our situation, making sure that we were well-informed and comfortable with what was happening. He listened to all of our concerns and guided us throughout the entire process. I only talked to the other staff in passing but all of them were friendly as well; I was always greeted with authentic smiles. Last weekend, a well regarded worker at our Plant was killed in a motorcycle accident. His father also works here, and this young man left behind a wife and 4 young children. For our relatively small work group, this sudden tragedy was a cold slap of reality, and a grim reminder of our temporary existence here on earth. I had known this personable and hardworking man only occasionally, but felt the loss deeply nonetheless. My family does not believe or like the open viewing funeral home experience. In fact, my parent's Living Will has them going off to science, while a recent Yelp post regarding the Neptune Society presents another good option. But perhaps one of the most powerful funeral-related gestures that I have ever done is the first shovel full of dirt at the grave. The memorial service was at the Higgins Chapel (and Funeral Home) and was standing room only. The room was comfortable, the background music was appropriate, Higgins Staff were empathetic and professional, and the Rosary was moving, even for this currently lapsed Jew. It was a loving and memorable goodbye for a good man who left us before his time. read more

Mila did a great job of following up with me and my family to make sure everything was going well. Mila is kind and helpful. The hearse driver was very kind and helpful. The place itself is beautiful and Tony, the funeral director was very professional and compassionate. When my father passed, our family was obviously very distraught and had very little energy or emotional strength to take on a challenge like planning a funeral. None was needed as Marissa is a gem. She was so caring and helpful, and handled every task we could have imagined and then some. In addition to Marissa, the Higgins facilities are also tops. They have a beautiful room, video streaming capabilities, and helped coordinate with the local Oak View cemetery. Their communications are also prompt, thorough and so considerate. In my job I deal with folks who have loved ones who have passed on. Based on that knowledge when my mother passed on I knew exactly who I was going to use. Higgins Chapel. They made everything easy. From getting the obituary in the paper on time to having the viewing ready to transporting all of the items such as flowers from the grave site to the memorial service. Every aspect they took responsibility for was done professionally and courteously. Our family felt taken care of and we were able to spend the day doing the other family things without worry that Higgins would be taking care of things. I have had other family members and clients use Higgins and have heard nothing but praise. I just attended a service here. I was extremely disappointed at the lack of professionalism, disrespect and thoughtlessness by the staff of this business. The office phone rang 5 times during this service and could be heard by all. It was so disruptive. How, at a time like this can you people think this is OK? The Monday 3-28-11 funeral was not handled in a very professional manor, because when the minister had finished his service ,no director was available for several minutes to start the visitors viewing, and then no one showed them how to exit the chapel, and also the bath room off the room for family was out of towels, and the stool was very slow to flush and refill, tissues were in in short supply, in family area, these things should be checked early before each service starts, shape up or get out of business! When my mother suddenly past away in October, my family and I dreaded thinking about planning for her funeral. it was one of the most stressful things I had to handle and deal with. My family and I were still dealing with the shock of what just happened; We were sad, angry, and exhausted and had no desire to sit and talk to the staff at the mortuary. I still recall driving up to Higgins with an attitude, eyes rolling, and thinking, 'here we go!' sigh. However, when we walked in, we're greeted by the friendly staff and then escorted to one of the meeting rooms; we then met Nicholas. Nicholas comes in, introduces himself, and offered his heartfelt condolences. As he takes his time to talk to us, we come to realize that, Nicholas is a very friendly, humble, caring, and a down-to-earth guy. We sat and talked about what happened to our mother and he sat and listened with compassion. He wasn't all about business and numbers, he honestly cared and understood what we were going through. At that point, we started to feel a bit more at easy and knew that we had found the right place for our mothers' service. We were convinced that this was the right place for us to honor our mother with pride. The day of the service was just beautiful. Again, the staff were friendly and accommodating to all of our requests that day. Everything went smoothly, all the way up to the burial at Oak-view Memorial. Often times, we come to a mortuary with a certain mind set, mixed emotions, due to the loss of a loved one. However, when you're in contact with the right people, such as the staff at Higgins, it can make this dreadful process so much easier. Thanks to the staff at Higgins...you guys rock! DO NOT GO HERE!!! NOT EMPATHETIC, INCONSISTENT, and they LIE!!! Go to DAN SCALES AT ALTA VISTA!! Had the unexpected death of my Brother. My mother needed to see his body, but due to Santa Clara Coroners Office not having viewing areas we needed him transferred to a funeral home ASAP. We called and were told if we came down by 11:30 on Friday we could sign the release papers and they would pic him up within the window of time and get him there for her to see. We worked with MILA initially as we are signing paperwork she tells us she has her transport on standby we got everything signed and we were told then that she may not be able to get him there before they close at 5 so she would have to see him Monday but she has sent transport out. My mother begged hysterically crying to please let her just see his face for 5 minutes she couldn't live until Monday. Was told no. There was no way possible. MILA then called and said transport is on their way. Calls again And says he definitely won't make it before closing that day because of traffic to the funeral home. My mom begged again not to wait and while frantic asked if she new anywhere that would allow her to see him today. Her response is to ask her if she wants to cancel transport and she needed to know now because they were already on their way. We told them to continue transport. She calls 30 minutes later now at 1:30 and states she cancelled transport due to traffic they won't make it and she can't see her son until Monday. Stating she would see if they would let them get him earlier In the day. We sedated our mother all weekend and get to Monday and they send MILA again who we said we did not want to work with who tells us we need to sign more paperwork and a contract before we get him and again it's between 2-4, but they close at 5 so won't be able to send him. Manager ANTHONY comes in who we were supposed to meet with that day, states that he can't talk with us he is with another family says MILA is the best for us, when we told him the issues then states well she is inexperienced, never apologizes about what is going on says the close at 5, states that he doesn't care about what we have been told, and also told one of the siblings that he's not ashamed of his actions because we disrespected what he has worked for. THESEE PEOPLE WERE NOT APOLOGETIC NOR ACCOUNTABLE FOR ONE THING THEY SAID OR DID. We went to DAN SCALES AT ALTA VISTA, they immediately took us in very warm and caring, called the coroners office got a 1pm pick up time for today and is staying for my mother to see him. Their prices are more affordable and beyond that the warmth and caring their entire team gives is more than we could have asked for, and FYI, the manager generated response is lacking true empathy and warmth just like their funeral home. read more

My dad just died today and after the cops showed up here they told us that their gonna release him there no hold on him. But when ever I did call higgins chapel funeral home and cremations on the phone I talking was guy who name is lorenzo was not very accondating to our loss and after he talk w me he called his boss antony lorenzo called back my mother cell he said to her that they were refusing to pick up the body and after my mother was talking w lorenzo she wanted his boss to call her. Disgusted! I lost my mother suddenly last month and was directed to Higgins by the Antioch police department. (since it's the closest) I didn't expect much and I got less then I expected. True disrespect. I asked over the phone for a quick viewing for 3-4 people when we made our initial appointment. They said no problem then I showed up and the woman doing out intake paper work said she wasn't told I wished to see my mother that day and we would have to come back another day. I mentioned I could wait and she had the nerve to tell me, she couldn't "lift my mom by herself" the image was awful and so was her lack of eloquence. Get some class. I could only imagine what she's said to other grieving family's. They were also very clueless to any details other then their pay. Confused faces every question I had. Haven't they done this before?!
