I have been using this "OUTFIT" multiple storage units at the Concord facility for over (25) years and they are "extremely poor communicators" and very rude female personalities!!! They were charging me monthly on an old discontinued AMEX credit card which was never updated and allowed by AMEX, until I called and questioned the old card vs my new card! AMEX discontinued old card use and A-1 let payments accrue delinquently without written or phone call notices to me? A "FINAL NOTICE" (ONLY NOTICE) was mailed to me after (3) months stating all items in storage would be sold if not paid within a narrow time period? I CANNOT RECOMMEND THEM AT ALL!!!!!!! read more

I have been using this storage facility for a little over 2 years and im very upset at all the recent rent increases one of my units was increased by $100 in a year!!!! Every few months i receive an email they are raising the prices. This location was convenient as i live 3miles away but i will be ending my contract with A-1 storage and not be returning. read more

If you have anything of value, close your unit and run. If you haven't been to your unit in a while, get down there ASAP. When I started renting here a few years ago, I did so because they had good reviews on google. Prices were good and everything was great, until it wasn't. One day I go to my unit and all my stuff is thoroughly picked through with all the valuables and anything of resale value gone. I say thoroughly because boxes were opened and the non-valuables were put back and boxes restocked. Things were not thrown all over the place like someone was in a rush. Also, there was not physical damage to the door. When I asked the on-site manager if they had any cameras she said only external cameras and also she said my unit had not been opened since my last known visit. Please note I am the only one in my family with a key, so the only time the unit was accessed was by me. So, with no internal cameras or any information to help show that someone had entered my unit and stolen my stuff, there was nothing they could do. Additionally, the stolen items were valuable, which the storage units terms say they will not reimburse. Even if the items are reimbursable you need to have your items photographed, well documented, receipts, etc. to even make a claim. That's on me for not having all that, but also the value exceeded what they would pay out anyways, so they would have just denied it. Letting my unit be entered and all the valuables removed without any evidence is all on A1. How could someone get into a unit, take their time to move boxes around, take the valuables and leave the rest, all in an orderly non-rushed manner. They don't have any evidence, but I always live by if it quacks like a duck and looks like a duck, you know the rest. I would not recommend this place to anyone because of the shadiness lurking around. read more

This place has caused a lot of pain! My whole family passed away and I trusted this company with my belongings after the sell of my home. I put all my belongings here in 2020 and was mugged in 2020 and reported it in 2020 right away that my credit cards were temporarily shut off due to being stolen. In 2020 I was told they auctioned and sold all of my belongings due to late payment. I put my Mother's urn with cremation ashes, trust documents, furniture, clothing.. everything I owned. I was mugged and all my credit cards and identification was stolen. I called again in 2024 because I was in a hospital for years and couldn't contact the company again. I asked for my Mother's urn and trust documents back. My belongings was approx about 65,000 worth of things some things in which I can never buy back. Please return my things!!!!! I even had all my family photos and family videos in my storage unit. I was in a hospital and had no way of doing anything at the time but I did call twice to let them know my credit cards were stolen.I will pay double for whatever everything was sold for to whoever bought my things. One of the reasons I was in the East Bay was to meet up with a friend and lend a hand as her recently widowed Mom downsized from her house to a senior apartment. She had a few pieces of heirloom furniture that her kids back east would soon be claiming as well as various painting she wanted to keep in the family and the usual assortment of boxes and what not. She also had two movers who were about to cross into overtime. With one delay after another it was about 550 when we got to the storage place. I wasn't really conscious of the time, but the guy who worked there (who was supposed to lock up and go home at 6:00 stayed around about twenty minutes showing my friends Mom the different sizes of units and showing how the security cameras worked. About 5 after 6, it was obvious that the first unit would be too small for her needs, so he patiently changed her to a bigger unit and let the movers do their job (as i watched) while my friend and her Mom did all the paperwork. read more

I have ONE HUGE COMPLAINT. When we moved into this facility the as agreement was rental increases no more often than every SIX MONTHS. They are a bunch of thieves. RENTAL RATE INCREASES are limited to NO MORE THAN A 6% by contract. They have exceeded 6% more than once. THIS MONTH THEY INCREASED MY RENT BY MORE THAN 20%. Other than the horrendous rents the facility is very nice. I would never come back again. We have units at Acorn as well. Just as nice but they are not money hungry. I recommend trying ACORN. read more

I called ahead for some Information and talked to Sabrina, and she definitely was informative about pricing and sizes of the storage spaces. She also took the time to answer any other questions before going to the storage. A-1 Storage is the best experience I have ever had with storing my items and furniture during a 4-month transition of selling and buying a new home. The customer experience and brand are excellent. Having to put my belongings into storage was a bit traumatic however, the folks over at A-1 storage were great. The units were beyond clean, the grounds very clean. The resident cats keep away the rats and mice that are all too common in storage places (see other review about Public Storage in Martinez to see what I mean). Peggy was wonderful at every step of the way, even calling me when I was late but before the late fees kicked in. The restroom was actually clean and nice!! Can't say that about many storage places Even my "neighbors" were friendly, moving their cars when they were in my way. My parents rented there years ago to store my grandmother's belongings. They had years of good service too. If you need a place to rent in Concord/Clayton this is the place. I would say it is worth even making a drive to get here because you won't find a better place. (And upon moving out they only required a few days notice and were supper nice...telling me to take another piece of candy or fruit that is always sitting on the counter). read more

This place is in a great location right next to Kirker Pass Road, so it's a breeze to get in and out of there. The owner is incredibly nice but has like twenty cats on the grounds. Not that I don't love kitties but I was like WOW. The grounds are immaculate, the security is great. Everything seems to be in perfect working order and their prices are very reasonable and competitive. I feel incredibly confident storing things at their facility. First off this place is clean and very well maintained and Mark was extremely friendly and helpful. Made the process so easy.. However the hours aren't good but as the other person stated i guess it's city regulated? So not much to be done there but here is what I don't understand for as much as I pay for my storage unit why is there air conditioning?!! Or at least climate control? It gets extremely hot in concord and having it hot and stuffy in there makes it really hard to organize my storage unit. What gives? Or at least have a power outlet so I can bring a fan.. This is my biggest complain. What is the reason why this has never been taken care of especially for what we pay for? read more

In March 2015, I was moving back to California from South Carolina and had a 5' X 8' U-Haul trailer filled with my life. I needed to rent a storage unit with a company I could trust. I had used A-1 Storage in the early 2000's and liked the facilities because they were very clean, had easy access, secure, and trustworthy. I called and spoke with Mark who arranged to have a unit ready for me when I arrived. To say that Mark is an asset to this company would be an understatement. I called him shortly before arriving, as I was a little behind and stuck in some traffic as I came through the Altamont Pass, to let him know my eta. He was so kind and understanding of this long journey I was completing and reassured me that he would wait for my arrival. Mark was true to his word. Mark was extremely pleasant to work with, helped me upgrade to a larger unit the next month (I believe it wasn't available the first month) and just did his best to make me feel at home. The reason I created a yelp account was to write these two reviews about two very different storage companies. My first review was towards the "competition" And if i could have given a no stars I would have. Mark was great! Informed me their ins and outs and security. I felt very comfortable in dealing with A-1. My gut feelings didn't pop up once. If you read my other review, it popped up a couple times while I was dealing with them.
