I have never written a yelp review, but the customer service from this place, and specifically the owner is absolutely terrible. Both of my interactions with her left me feeling like I got scammed. I bought a mid-size indoor plant from her (that was quite expensive for the type of plant in the first place). After telling her it was my first house plant, she upsold me multiple unnecessary things for it. As soon as I brought it home leaves started rapidly turning yellow and falling off (3 new leaves would start to turn yellow everyday.) I also found web-like residue on the plant. A more experienced plant owner told me both of these things were a sign that the plant had bugs. 2 weeks after purchasing the plant, I brought it back and asked the owner to exchange it, as I did not want to deal with treating a brand new bug-infested plant. After barely looking at it, she first insisted nothing was wrong with it. When I showed her pictures of the yellowing leaves that were continuously falling off, she insisted it was a watering issue. I told her this was not possible, as it had only been 2 weeks. I had watered it exactly as she had advised, and I had tried both more water and less water to see if it helped the issue. The leaves continued to die just as rapidly no matter the change in watering. She kept twisting her words and insisting first that it was healthy, then that it was "overwatered", then that it was "underwatered". She refused to do anything to help me, when I tried to offer multiple solutions to the problem (none of which involved returning the plant. I just wanted an exchange or at the very least for her to help me treat the obvious bug issue). She would do nothing but repeat "we have a strict no return policy", while she is the owner, and obviously makes the policy. I took the plant to Armstrong, and they inspected it closely, immediately confirmed the plant had spider mites, and directed me on what to purchase and how to treat the mites. After following their instruction, the yellowing leaves have immediately stopped. (Not to mention, Armstrong has multiple of the same plant that look healthier and more full and are a cheaper price). Their customer service was amazing, and exactly what you'd hope for out of any respectable, reputable business. The owner of this establishment was rude, extremely unhelpful, and had zero regard for any form of customer service. All over requesting an exchange. If she would have once at least acknowledged that the plant had an issue that needed to be addressed, I would not be writing this review. Very disappointing. read more

All the plants there are super healthy and last forever. And, the personal service is even better. On more than once occasion, Brooke has taken the time to pick out the perfect plants for several different areas at my home. I show her photos of the areas and she has brilliant suggestions. The delivery was quick and they have also helped with follow-up for any issues with maintenance of the plants. Love this place! read more

I really don't like writing these type of reviews but after waiting on hold for 8 minutes and it being my 4th attempt to get someone to fulfill the order i placed. I've lost zero patience. A little background, i came in-person with my mom almost 3 weeks ago. Looking for two plants which we found and loved however the gal, Lucy didn't know the price, so she texted the manager while we waited on premise. With no response from the manage, we finally left our contact and also mentioned that the plant came in a box and that the boxes tend to cost more, if we can order without the box since we have two gorgeous pots we'd like to use at home. Well, we left our contact information and a week later my mom went back in-person to follow-up only to be told we would hear from them again, and sadly again no word. I called for the 3rd time and spoke to someone new (not Lucy) and she assured me I'd hear back from them about the pricing and possibility to order without the box. That was 4 days ago. Today, i called for the 4th time to be put on hold for over 8 minutes and i just hung up. That really was the last straw. Sadly, this place is unorganized and even if they have a great selection, don't expect them to know the prices of what they are selling. I'm frustrated with my experience and living across the street in Dana point, i cannot recommend supporting a business that doesn't value their customers. read more

The PERFECT experience! I stopped by the Dana Point Nursery on a mission to start growing my own aloe vera for various DIY uses, and I couldn't have asked for more in terms of service, knowledge, and advice. Both Marissa and Brooke did a phenomenal job in helping me with all my questions, and trust me I had a lot. They were incredibly sweet and patient given I had no clue what I was doing, and made sure to guide me in everything from what size plant/pot to start with to how to care for and maintain it. Let me emphasize again, the fabulous ladies Marissa and Brooke absolutely made my entire day, and guaranteed that I shall return when I'm ready to take on another gardening challenge! Oh my goodness, this nursery is awesome!! I have driven past it so many times and had no clue what a treasure of plants, pots, fruit trees, tools and decorative items were in there. I was looking for an extra large pot to transplant my Satsuma mandarin tree into and found one. I have been looking for about a month knowing I would have to give the tree a lot more growing room. Not very many nurseries carry a large selection of extra large pots made of different materials. I asked Brooke, the owner, if they deliver and she said yes. They will load up the pot, bags of soil and whatever big or heavy items I purchased and deliver to my home. I will definitely be back again. Thanks for making my visit so rewarding!! read more

This community pillar has never failed me. This family owned business always warms my heart with every visit. They do so much between donating to events and the personalized touch they give to each customer. I'm always blown away by Brooke's endless knowledge for every plant and flower in her shop. I went to the nursery with my mom to buy her some plants for Mother's Day and we were so pleased with everything. We had many questions on what plants to buy and where they were located. Everyone working there were so helpful, if they didn't know the answer they would ask the manager and came back to us ASAP. After we checked out one the young employees helped us bring our cart to the car and loaded everything in the trunk. We bought six plants and two pots for a total of $85, what a deal! Small retail nursery directly off the PCH in central Dana Point. Parking is limited to a handful of spaces, so many customers park on adjacent neighborhood streets. Inside, the plants are well-organized and everything looked immaculate. I really liked this place. The staff was super friendly and the selection waaayy better than I would of thought driving by the dozens of times I did before I actually stopped one day and went in. I received a ton of good advice and left with some pretty cool plants for my backyard. The only reason for the 4 stars and not 5, is that some of the plants are not forever plants. I had no clue that was a thing. Embarrassing for me of course, and I probably should know things like that. I didn't find that out until after I had left and spent a few hundred dollars on them. So I left with a few plants that will die at seasons end. The amount of questions I asked it was pretty obvious I have no clue about gardening. To be honest any plant is probably not lasting a year in my uncapable hands. I can't blame them for my lack of knowledge. Would have been nice to know. I love this place!!! I stopped by for the very first time a year ago bc we had a tree we were trying to nurse back to health. I could not believe how much the owner Brook knew about my exact tree and about what to do to save it!!! All if these years we had been going to home depot or lowes for plant needs- never realizing how valuable true expertise and customer service was!!! We have been going back regularly since! Solid nursery with a good combination of succulents, bedding plants and shade plants. Nice sized gift / silly store. No public bathroom which is a bummer but I understand why not. Decent sized private parking lot as well as street parking. I had a nice chat with the owner. He is really personable and knowledgeable and offered to order some plants for me. We were just passing through, don't live in the local area, so that didn't help but it was great for him to offer. Reasonably priced. Cute small koi pond. You can tell the owner cares. You don't see that very often anymore so I was glad That I was able to find a couple plants to buy. read more

I was blown away at the amazing customer service here. I went in with my Monstera that was starting to sag and look a little yellow. I was hoping to gather some knowledge on why this was happening to my otherwise healthy plant. Upon entering I was greeted with a smiling face and she asked if she could assist me with anything. I immediately said yes and told her my problem. She was so willing to even come out to the car to look at my poor baby and diagnose the potential problem. Right off the bat she knew I was overwatering which was causing the yellowing and sagging. I then told her I had other plants doing bizarre things after I moved then from Los Angeles to Dana Point. She took the time to look at the photos I had taken and walked me through some possible problems but most likely it was all just overwatering. I can't tell you how many times I had terrible customer services up in LA at some of the most renowned nurseries. This is the experience you want when going to a nursery for help with plants. The selection is lovely and the plants are so well taken care of. The place is just flourishing. Thank you for being so awesome! I will be returning to purchase the rest of my house plants from here. I wish lived closer to this beautiful nursery. I would be in every week. The selection is great. So many wonderfull things to choose from. Everything is arranged so nice and all are top quality. It's a family owned nursery that's been around since 1947. I can see why. So another bad experience at Dana Point Nursery. Bad on a few months ago and swore I would never go back. Well since I have been going there for over 40 years I thought I would try again. Today I bought 7 four inch poinsettias for $9.99 each. Approx $70 plus tax. I asked Brooke to put some foil around two of them, which she has done on numerous occasions. She said she didn't have time today and to come back later. Not so great customer service. Then I said well just give me a couple of sheets of the foil and I can do it my self. She said they are 50 cents a sheet. Free if she does it, charges if I do it. Now does that make sense?? So for one dollar, she looses a customer, and makes me write a bad experience on yelp and has me telling all my friends about this. read more

I would inquire and I would have to start all over with the process of leaving my name and number. Their customer service is also lacking, sometimes even rude. I'm a long time resident of Dana Point. I love this nursery. There is a large selection of plants. I always leave with a new plant baby.They also have a ton of pots available and plant accessories. They carry some harder to find plants too - I saw a string of hearts there at one point and regret not buying it! The employees are very friendly and knowledgeable.
