After 9 years I am leaving this practice. Sarah the hygienist is the best but she works in a tough environment. The business now is more focused on financials vs patient care and retention. Office manager very black and white and not customer service oriented. The practice has an ethics issue. They have no problem charging premium cleanings for a regular cleaning which most Ins companies cover at 100% while trying to add fluoride treatments that u get as a child. I have been witness to their tactics previously when they kept pushing for a crown replacement but couldn't tell me the age of crown or the problem with it. I wish Sarah well but to all reading this please have your eyes wide open to their Billings and explanations(or lack there of) read more

The hygienist is great but the business is terrible. I was signed up for the plan the last time which included 2 cleanings, was expensive but somewhat affordable. This time around when I show up they said they would discuss the plan after my cleaning, I assumed not much changed. Apparently the price more than doubled. But Instead of the 2 typical cleanings a year, they say now it's unlimited but twice the money. Id rather go to the dentist twice a year like normal human being and prefer not to get completely gauged. At the least be informed not AFTER my cleaning. I asked if they could honor the old plan and they denied that. Very unhappy with this office. read more

I recently came to Dana Point Smiles for a pretty basic check up. The office was clean and everybody I interacted with working there was very kind and courteous. I filled out all of my healthcare information online before visiting so I didn't have to do a ton of paperwork on arrival. Dr. Shalaby is so thorough with his practice. He recommended Invisalign and was able to show me a computer mock up of the potential effects Invisalign would have for me specifically. It was very helpful in determining my need for it. I went in for a "relapse Invisalign" meaning that I had braces but I forgot to wear my retainer afterwards. Dr. Shalaby was able to reverse my teeth back to perfection in a matter of 3 months. I am so frustrated by this office! I brought my grandson there in Jan 2021 to have a tooth pulled. They referred me to an orthodontist who was great! Unfortunately he does not loses his teeth as his gums are too strong so he needs several more teeth pulled(all baby teeth) I have called 6 times in an attempt to get this work done. They never follow up to schedule an appointment they keep saying they have to get the treatment plan from the orthodontist. I made sure they got it. Now because 6 months have gone bye they want me to go see the orthodontist again!! I am a retired Dr, Do not waste your time here they are completely incompetent! Save your time find a doctor and a staff that actually cares!!!! read more

I would first like to begin by giving Dana Point Smiles, Dr. Shelby, and the entire staff the 5 star rating they so much deserve! My dilemma began last week when an infection manifested itself in a tooth and my first thoughts were OMG, not this, and not now! My wife had a root canal a week earlier with DPS (Dana Point Smiles), and were so quick to get her in, so I as well gave a call, and was in the chair practically in less than 24 hours in spite of the chaos of the Covit-19 fiasco! This was great news when mostly all other dental practices were either closed, or there was a 3 week wait. For the record, my HMO dentist never even got back to me so you can imagine the condition I would have been in right now. This incident in my mouth took place a week ago, the extraction was quick, painless, and healing well. I had a crown literally fall out the day before yesterday, in spite of being totally booked for yesterday they were able to get me in at the last moment, and, well, you know, I'm 100% back in the saddle with the repair, and eating like a horse! I can't thank Dr. Shelby, and their professional and caring staff enough for helping in what I believed to be a pending nightmare, become a dream, and that's for the two incidents that occurred within 7 days of one another! I've tried just about every dentist, and periodontist in San Clemente, and with them came quirks that had me assure them I'd never come back. In the case of DPS, I have found a professional practice who cares more about your comfort, and well being than squeezing you for every penny you have. Thank you DPS. I hope I won't need to return anytime soon, but most assuredly I say to you, when the occasion ever again arises "and I know it will eventually with my teeth", I'm coming back to YOU!
