They have a wide variety of curries and other Indian delicacies, truly something for everyone. It's a convenient downtown location and was never too busy to get a table. We got takeout from here last night and it won't be the last time! Indian is my favorite delivery comfort food. I'm on the hunt for the best Indian soups so I got all three of theirs to compare, and all were delish! One was essentially just dal soup with chicken added, but all were flavorful and comforting. They didn't have butter chicken on the delivery menu (?!) so I got tikka masala and it was quite good. I loved their basmati to go with it. This was unfortunately one of the worst customer service experiences I've had at a restaurant. I came in excited to try Dancing Ganesha because I've heard so many great things about it. I ordered what I believed was a vegetable platter appetizer, but when it arrived it turned out to be fried fritter-style items instead. Since I wasn't familiar with some of the menu terminology, I asked my server if there was an actual vegetable platter with a variety of fresh vegetables. He pointed to another item on the menu, so I asked what it was. Rather than explaining it, he mumbled something I couldn't understand and literally walked away while I was still trying to ask questions. As someone who isn't familiar with every Indian dish, I was simply trying to understand what I was ordering in terms I could recognize. The food may be good, but the service completely overshadowed the experience. I left feeling dismissed and unwelcome. Given the restaurant's reputation, I was genuinely surprised by how poor the customer service was during my visit. This version focuses on the service issue rather than insults, which tends to carry more weight on Yelp and Google. read more

Every time we go to Costco, we lament that we have to make time for Dancing Ganesha because we've heard great things! Finally came here with a friend for lunch on Friday and had a great time! Service was super welcoming, so hospitable and warm. I ordered my typical chicken Josh mild with a side of plain naan while my friend ordered some soup, garlic naan, and a couple samosas. She LOVED all of the above and even had enough to take some home! The portion sizes are quite large so my chicken Josh leftovers were a whole meal for dinner for my husband! Even though I ordered it mild, the chicken Josh was a bit bland and underwhelming, the basmati rice was also a bit mushy which has never been my experience before at an Indian restaurant. Their Lamb Rogin is fantastic (I wouldn't say it's to die for though apparently the lamb thought so). Very reasonably priced. I will definitely come here again. It had been a long time since I'd been to one of their locations, but my friend and I were seeing a show at the Orpheum and an Indian place just a few blocks away (and with metered spaces that are cheaper and more plentiful than I was expecting), this was perfect for us. They have a large menu with all the standards you'd expect, and a particularly generous selection of vegetarian entrees. That was a requirement for my friend, who got Baignan Bharta Eggplant. She absolutely loved it. I got chicken vindaloo, which was good. Vindaloo is usually best with beef or lamb, but I was following a diet rule. I asked for 3/5 spice level and it was near the high end of what I tolerate, so expect them to give you spicy when you want it. We also got Cheese Pakora, which came with two very nice sauces. The best thing was the service. They were really nice; very attentive and fast. My favorite is that we mentioned when she seated us that we wanted to make sure to make it to the theater on time, and it seemed like that message got around because they were really quick with us and made sure the check was on the table early. I like the idea of coming here before seeing a show at one of those theaters on Hennepin, so I'll definitely do that again. read more

We went to Dancing Ganesha on a weekend and it a great spot for Indian! We got Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Josh and a Chai Tea and Mango Lassi. All the food was great and the food came out quickly. The food is comparable to the other Indian restaurants in Minneapolis and there is street parking around the restaurant. We went later at night and there was plenty of seating available. Last night we brought a couple we travel with up here to eat as they love Indian food. Like our last visit when we traveled to Minnesota, the food was devastatingly delicious!!! However also sadly, wait staff was lack luster. We rarely got checked on and had to ask one of the bartenders to bring us our remaining Nann bread order to the table. Honestly this could be a cultural thing as it was great to have uninterrupted conversation and the atmosphere was very pleasant. Came here while visiting Minneapolis. Our decision was based on the amazing smell of their food every time we walked past the restaurant. My wife and I ordered the mattar paneer and the vegetable korma with garlic naan. We both thought the mattar paneer was just okay, it needed a little something else. The vegetable korma, however, was amazing. I have had many hit or miss kormas over the years and this was one of the best ones I've had. The garlic naan tasted good but was a little thin and crispy, we both wished it was thicker and softer with some crispiness. Both curries were ordered medium and were an appropriate level of spicy, but we both could have handled more so don't be afraid to order your preferred spice level. Service was fairly quick and the prices were standard for this type of restaurant ($15-18/entree). If you're in the downtown area and looking for somewhere to eat, this place is a great option. read more

Our friends came in from MI to help us move, so we HAD to treat them right! As fans of Indian cuisine - but unfamiliar with the Minneapolis scene - we could not wait to take them to Dancing Ganesha! Our server Lenny took very good care of us and got us quickly started with beverages: Stella Artois, Jameson Ginger (the best version of the Whiskey Ginger IMO), a Dirty Martini and a Lagunita IPA. With that underway, it was time to turn to the menu. We learned on the move weekend that our friends eat with their eyes, no matter what their stomachs can hold. This was not the only meal where we went over the top, but it was easily the most colorful and diverse big eat that we had. The food order was as follows: Chicken Biriyani, mild - Yes, a few of us would have preferred spicy, but it had so much flavor that we didn't complain. Much. ;^) Saag Paneer, mild - This is a dish I could eat every day for the rest of my life. To me, this was the star of the meal and I had to hold back (or look like I wasn't sharing). Beef Tikka Masala, mild - The depth of flavor was eye-rolling; so yummy! Two vegetable samosas - Sadly a gluten allergy kept one party member from sampling. They were very well-prepared and plump! Lenny provided a number of sauces on the side to help us replace the heat, which was very thoughtful and much appreciated. I love Indian food and a colleague suggested this restaurant. To be honest I driven past it a few times but never thought to go in. It's tucked away quaintly right downtown Minneapolis It's just steps away from Hennepin avenue yet felt like a quiet intimate but also family style atmosphere. The drinks were unique and amazing The mango martini was unlike anything I'd ever had before and definitely topped my list. The Bollywood rum drink was also met with rave reviews. The lamb samosas were full and meaty and the pastry was baked to perfection. The Tikka masala and the Saag with chicken We're honestly mind-blowing. As someone that has traveled oversees and had authentic Indian food for local place here at home this was extremely authentic from the smells to the texture to the spices and the flavor. I would highly recommend. Last but not least the server who greeted us, sadas and served us was extremely attentive, he was kind, patient and answered questions and even made several suggestions. Oh such a surprise, Mike is eating Asian. Well technically it is from Asia but it is Indian food this time. This food is top notch Indian, it made me wish I were there during lunchtime so I could try their buffet because my mixed meat biryani and naan were so good, I wanted more. There was too much for me to finish, even for the closet eater I am. I tried, and I eyed it on the hotel room dresser as I walked by but held my ground. Hint - it was equally good for breakfast! I asked for the Biryani hot and trust me it was. The Dancing Ganesha wasn't the only thing dancing that night - the biryani was spicy good! :) read more

Although I've had good and somewhat bad experience here- the weekday lunch buffet is only $10 so I always fine myself coming back especially since I work downtown, making it a convenient location. The selection isn't huge but it's definitely a good enough variety for the price. The food is pretty delicious but definitely not spicy like how I would have liked. The atmosphere is nice but the floors are a little sticky. Overall the staff are okay- I've had some really friendly ones and some who don't even say hi or smile. Parking can be a bit annoying as I think it's only metered parking but it's free after 6pm on weekdays and free on weekends. read more

Dancing Ganesha redeemed my faith in "Indian Food Buffets".I visited Dancing Ganesha with a co-worker that absolutely loves this place for their lunch buffet.The food was a little more fresh than some of the other Indian restaurants I've tried. It is the same as most buffets which was a little bit disappointing.A few chicken dishes/curries.One or two vegetarian dishes.A salad or two and tandoori chicken.My favorite was the tandoori chicken.It was fresh,hot and juicy. Been eyeing this up forever on Yelp and DoorDash. Finally dashed it. Bit expensive for the portions. Very tasty and flavorful. I ordered the Chettinad with a "hot" spice level. I'm sick of saying "medium" and getting no spice... because most Minnesotans are Nordic with no tolerance . Even with saying "hot" it was manageable, and my PERFECT level of heat. Not so hot that the flavor is lost. I was interested to try this dish when they described it at "pungent" haha! It's more like a curry version of Biryani. A sweet floral spice. Absolutely delicious and lingering. I also ordered the Tandoori Chicken which was surprisingly juicy on a bed of onions and peppers. The rice was cooked perfectly, and the Mirchi Baji (basically jalapeño poppers) I would recommend passing on. I can tell I will crave the Chettinad regularly! read more

I use to order a lot from this place (I believe from SLP location) to chaska, but their quality has gone way down. I ordered Chicken 65 and it does not look like Chicken and it was a different dish and they accidentally called it Chicken 65 and delivered it to me. I am allergic to seafood and such and had a friend try it and they confirmed it is not chicken. Their Chicken Briyani is the worst I have ever had in a long time. If you are a Briyani eater you know how best the Briyani taste. This tasted like a rice blended with cooked with spice and some chicken pieces thrown into it and mixed. The worst experience I ever had from this restaurant and I would not recommend anyone for this place. Don't waste your money here. read more
