So this review doesn't directly involve me, but after hearing about my friend's experience this is the only way to get the shops attention. My friend wanted a keratin treatment and essentially left unhappy with the results. Not wanting to cause a scene she paid AND tipped but reached out to discuss the issue with the manager. Not only was her experience dismissed she really wasn't even heard out or empathized. As black women our hair is part of our identity and she left feeling like she couldn't be seen in public. I understand the customer isn't always right, but there's almost always a way to create a better experience through empathy, communication, and a willingness to help. I went to Carrie yesterday to get what I thought was a simple maintenance trim. We talked through my issues and long term hair goals. To continue growing my wavy hair out longer. It seemed we were on the same page. I specified I wanted blunt ends cut in order to keep my hair healthy and strong as it grew, as well as preserving my curl pattern. As the hair cut continued and we began talking, I didn't notice she had pulled out the thinning shears and began "removing bulk" from the ends of my hair. I noticed after she had completed cutting one side of my hair that she had been using the thinning shears. When I brought it up, she assured me that this was the best move for my hair, and I trusted her. She is the professional- although I've had bad experiences with these type of scissors before- I left well enough alone- trusting her because she is a professional. I take a shower when I get back home, and my hair is absolutely cooked. She destroyed the curl pattern and has left my hair thin and frizzy. I'm going to now have to pay out of pocket for a proper haircut from someone who knows how to listen to the customer and actually knows you shouldn't use thinning shears on wavy hair. What was most frustrating was management's response. No effort was made to fix the issue. Instead, I was told to return to the same stylist who caused the problem or to the owner. In order to fix this problem and get my hair back to the length it was before I went in for a trim- I'm going to probably have to wait about another year. Customers are the business, and how concerns are handled matters. You'd think there would be some sort of refund. I now have to pay more out of pocket to fix what this "professional" who butchered my hair has done. Do not go here. read more

Lost a customer here!!! I've been to Dandelion multiple times up to a couple months ago when the stylist that was cutting my hair left. I ended going to a different place one time. since Dandelion is closer to my place, I tried going back to have someone else cut my hair. The person that answered said there's only one stylist there that will accept new customers for a mens cut. The original stylist charged $40 plus tip, but this new stylist wants to charge $65 plus tip. It's a men's haircut, come on!!! It WILL NOT come out any different than when I was paying $40. It's completely ridiculous to gouge for a men's cut like that. Like I said, they have lost a customer. I'll go back to the other place even though it's a bit further. read more

She was clearly a color expert and knew just how to tackle the correction. She worked quickly and precisely, which was such a relief after my last experience (elsewhere). I came for blonde highlights. The stylist turned me dark gray and gaslighted me, instead! When I walked into Dandelion for highlights and a trim, I thought I was in good hands. I have been coming here for service from another hair stylist for a little under a year and I never had a problem. My usual stylist wasn't available, so I was assured by the receptionist that plan B would be just as good. Fast forward to this being the worst salon experience yet. I showed her photos of what I wanted and told her that my goal was to be brighter and blonder. I told her I wanted to look and feel younger, that I had a couple of parties coming up to celebrate my 40th birthday. She said she could do it! AGAIN, she said she could DO IT! But, when I saw the finished product after four long hours in her chair, I had to do my best to hold back tears. My hair was ashen and gray--not the brighter blonde that I had so clearly asked for. To make matters worse, the highlights looked like they came from one of those do it yourself plastic caps with the holes. The kind you get at Sally Beauty with your GF's in highschool. Poorly blended, poorly placed. I was pretty adamant about how I was all about a "money" piece and no matter what, wanted to accomplish that look. As I am sure you can imagine by now, nothing came even close or at all to that. I was horrified. Was I really expected to ring in 40, with artificial gray hair, toned to drab AF?! THE BEST PART is... I haven't even gone gray naturally yet. I was under the impression that hair salons are in the business of making their clients feel their best! Fabulous! Youthful and most of all Satisfied! Call me crazy, but that is the "Ethos" for most high end salons right? To make matters worse, the stylist barely took accountability for completely messing up my hair. She gaslit me and told me that she "was no good at blonde, that she did her "version" of what I asked for and that it was "kinda dark" in this part of the salon, so I might not be seeing what I thought I was seeing. Then ended with finally admitting, " I feel like I am gonna cry, I feel so bad", "You should just wash your hair with clarifying shampoo or purple shampoo to make it better" After how much I was expected to fork over, you want me to spend more to correct your mistake? Heinous!! What she didn't realize is that I have years of experience dying my own hair and working with celebrity hair stylists. There are certain things you just have to have another person do, otherwise I would have done it myself. Anyway, I politely told her what she did wrong after she tried to fib about principles in hair color chemistry a normal person wouldn't know. Needless to say, I was the wrong one to lie to. Honestly, I don't know why I paid the nearly $400 she charged me after all was said and done. I guess I was in shock at what had happened to my hair and how I had been treated, that she had the audacity to charge me so much after giving me the opposite of what I asked for without even offering to fix it. There was a half ass dry trim that she attempted to do, as we were both in sorrowed spirits about the outcome of my hair. That, she did offer to take off. However, $75-85 bucks to do a dry trim? Are you joking? Can I get dinner first before you screw me... I emailed the salon manager the next day, and she refused to refund me or fix my hair for free. She had zero empathy for my situation and I ended the call feeling hopeless and completely dismissed. It was so bad that I even asked if she was a robot due to her sociopathic attitude towards someone who paid good money to have their hair ruined just before a milestone moment in their life! I was able to get my hair fixed at Local Honey. The experience was so much better! My stylist was honest with me about what to expect in correcting the color of my hair and gave me a roadmap to reach my hair goals in the future. The word around was that they get a lot of Dandelion "dandruff;" people who are dissatisfied with Dandelion Salon and the prices they charge for what you get or don't get really... Customers like me who had to pay for their mistakes and lack of accountability! In the end, I paid double to have my hair done: once to have it turned gray, and a second time to have the color corrected. If you know anything about hair, processing twice in one week is not good for your hair. It has taken me a long time to get it long and healthy so this was just devastating. What I asked for easily could have been accomplished in one sitting. Dandelion may never offer to correct their mistake. Or give me my money back, which I pleaded for with the ice sculpture they call a manager, but I've made my peace with that. I now feel it's my duty to warn others about what they can expect if they come here, and hopefully avoid the heartache that comes with a bad hair job and even worse personal treatment on the part of the cold management and greedy owner. read more

After going to this salon for over 3 years, spending about $400,00 for per visit, never having been late or missed an appointment, I forgot about an appointment today. I could have been at the salon in 5 minutes if I had been given a curtesy call. Without my permission and without a curtesy call, the manager, Hailey, charged my credit card 375.00. When I tried to speak to Hailey about the matter, she refused to credit my card back and wouldn't answer my question as to why no one tried to contact me. She ultimately offered a $200.00 reduction to the $375.00 charge and then only processed a 50.00 credit. This is the first online review I have ever given in my life and I am 68 years old. read more

Yesterday I got my hair did at Dandelion Salon in East Nashville, directly across from the Family Wash. I had noticed this salon driving past it multiple times, and was drawn to the wispy, tall white curtains in the front that beckoned me in. I looked up the website and saw that the owner and main stylist, Christie, recently moved from Atlanta where she worked in a high-end salon. She has traveled the world learning the art of her trade, and I was very curious to try her services. I felt guilty straying from my current hair stylist, who is truly awesome and does a great job. But Dandelion is so much more convenient, and recently I found out that my boyfriend's step-dad made their signs, so I figured I would just take that as a sign. Once inside, I found that it was every bit as pretty as the curtains made it look. True to its name, there is a giant light fixture that looks like a dandelion, and most everything is white with darker accents. There is an antique bathtub in the middle of the room full of live plants. The ceilings are super tall and have the original 1940's molding everywhere. They served me a Pellegrino Limonata, which I just love. She took the time to discuss what I like and don't like about my hair, and what I was hoping to walk out of there with as far as a cut. They have the most comfortable wash station I have ever experienced, it lowers down to adjust to your height and didn't hurt my neck. I relished the head and neck massage that she gave me. Christie was super friendly and easy to talk to, and I found myself very relaxed in the salon. Most importantly, I absolutely love the cut that she gave me. She was respectful of my desire not to lose much length, which is rare (so many times I've had many inches chopped off when I asked for a tiny trim, none of that nonsense here). She gave me ample layering to give my hair bounce, and took care to shape up my post-bang poof. The blowout was beautiful, and she took the time to touch it up after drying it. I was so impressed by her ability to frame my face in a way that no one has been able to before, even though I was wearing a mask! She took the time to get to know me and I really appreciate her as a person. I felt confident that she would do a great job even though I was a first time clientI I have a TON of really wavy, course, extra long hair that is more than a lot of stylists can handle. Emma has the right amount of experience for me to feel at ease, but the salon has a apprentice program for every stylist before they get on the floor. That's like getting your masters degree in hair. It's a big deal, and I always look for salons that go the extra mile to assure quality and consistency. The past 2 haircuts I received in Nashville I was unhappy with; I felt the stylists didn't listen to what I was wanting, they just did their own thing. Emma Lee definitely changed that! I have long hair and wanted to keep the length, just wanted more layers/texture and some thinning out since my hair is so thick. Shannon is wonderful! I gave her an idea of what I wanted (though I am not picky) and she worked her magic and executed exactly what I wanted! The girls are wonderful from the time you walk in the door offering coffee and or water, as they continued to check in and make sure I was doing well throughout my visit. I had gone to this place a few times for a cut and a few times for color. The appointments I had for a cut were wonderful; so I decided to trust them with color as well. I saw one colorist and she did a wonderful highlight base but our schedules weren't compatible so I had to seek elsewhere. After another session elsewhere I decided to come back to Dandelion. Due to their busy schedule, I had to hold off on treatments. I figured it's better to pay more and receive quality color than try to save $ somewhere. The only person available for an appointment ended up being someone who's only been doing hair for 1.5 years. I trusted him and sat in the chair twice where he painstaking did highlights for 4-5 hours at a time. Unfortunately, both times my hair came out more yellow with streaks of orange. The more I tried to communicate about it, the more I was told to keep returning and keep paying over 300$ per session. Mind you, I'd had blonde hair before so I know what my hair is capable of. After the last session, I came home in tears. I am Ukrainian, and it's been a long year and I just wanted a little bit of joy. I'm also a high school teacher and wanted to do something nice for myself for the holidays, but I'd spent over 600$ just to be neither brunette nor blonde, with random streaks of color all over. When I called and calmly explained the situation, the manager, after lecturing me about my own hair, refunded me 80$. That's about how much I tipped for the two sessions. Now I have damaged hair and no money. Please be careful when choosing to book with them. They do not train their new staff well and do not have your best interest in mind. read more

Just had a terrible customer service experience here and will not be returning, I just found out I have to be out of town for a work trip and called to reschedule my appointment, I've been a long time customer and the woman was incredibly rude on the phone and since I called AN HOUR late into 24 hours before the service she refused to wave to 50% fee for me to reschedule which is ridiculous. I went in to Dandelion today for color and a cut and was blessed to have landed in Shannon's chair. Out of fear of the unknown I haven't gotten my hair done in a VERY long time. Shannon is such a kind, beautiful person and she really knows what she is doing. She immediately made me feel at ease and I am so happy with my hair! She listened and repeated back to me what I had told her...and created the exact look I was going for. The salon is adorable - perfectly shabby chic and very comfortable. I recently moved to the area, and was nervously looking for a salon and after shopping a bit, I found Dandelion. I was first attracted by their prices, as they seemed more reasonable than a few other well rated salons. I booked an appointment online 2 days before my appointment, which was awesome considering other salons had a month or more of a wait for a well trained stylist. I got an appointment with Christie, who is the owner of Dandelion, and she's the best! Her shop is the cutest place, it's very relaxing, the staff are all welcoming and hospitable. I got (partial) highlights done, as well as a dusting and blow dry - $125! Can't beat that. The highlight job was probably the best I have had, it looks super natural and my hair feels healthier than ever. Christie also took the time to show me how to take better care of my hair (its very dry and my ends are a tad damaged from heat styling over and over) and wanted to follow up to make sure things we're growing in properly in a few months. Christie really loves her job, is knowledgable and passionate about what she does. I would recommend her to anyone. SUPER affordable, wonderful results. I have long and and very thick hair, Christie was able to work to my hairs strengths and gave me fabulous shape, while maintaining my length. Layers for miles! I have never had anything less than an amazing experience at this place! I am quite impatient when it comes to my hair: the moment I decide it needs a cut/color - I want it done that day/week. Which means, I can't always get the stylist I want or have had in the past. But, at Dandelion you literally cannot go wrong. ALL of the stylists are amazing - even those who've never before touched my hair! They listen to what I want, provide their thoughts and direction, and deliver fabulousness every single time. Literally, every time. (I've been going for about 3 years, and have seen like 6 different stylists.) They also don't ever push up-sell items (hair products, candles, etc), which is refreshing. Maybe because of that, I usually end up buying something - just bc they experience is so good and I want to create the look they gave me. And equally as important is the cool, relaxed atmosphere. The crisp white is a clean backdrop to whatever funky, seasonal decor they have going on at the moment. And they cheerily offer wine, coffee, tea, etc upon your arrival. She really took the time to ask my several questions about my lifestyles, desires, etc as she looked over what I had to work with. I love the updated cut and I especially like how easy it is to look great. (You know how it is, usually the cut looks great when THEY style it, but you can't seem to replicate it at home.) No problem here. The salon is tucked away in the Porter Rd/Greenwood intersection of South Inglewood. It has a fresh shabby chic style inside and is very welcoming. A friend of mine referred me to this salon recently, after having a horrible experience with a former stylist. I made an appointment with BJ O'Malley, in part from my friend's recommendation and from her bio on the salon's website. Well, all I can say is this: she is FANTASTIC. Truly awesome stylist and person. If you have any issues with your color and/or style, she's your girl. I had planned on going platinum blonde, from a very copper Ginger color. Even though she advised me against going that light of a color (for a myriad of reasons- previous damage, regrowth from post-pregnancy hair loss, etc), I have to say I am 100% pleased with the way my hair turned out. She has over 20 years of experience, and made me feel very relaxed and comfortable, knowing she would take good care of me. After spending 3.5 hours on my hair, I ended up with a beautiful blonde color and a cut that was exactly what I had envisioned in my mind. What else can I say, except she just "gets my style." I got my hair cut last week at Dandelion. The place is decorated amazingly! It's all white and chic while taking cues from Anthropologie. My favorite part is the antique bath tub filled with plants in the middle of the space. Now what you really want to know--the hair! Christie (the owner) did a fantastic job whipping my unruly hair into a cute un-boring bob. I'm painstakingly growing out my old pixie cut and this style fits my transitional hair perfectly. Christie is so sweet and nice, definitely not the gossipy "hairdresser" type. The only bummer is that prices are a bit steep, $65 for my cut. Upon reading all of the positive reviews about this place, I booked a full color/cut appointment with BJ for the first time. The reviews were accurate. I asked for an ombre red color and BJ was so accommodating, friendly and helpful in assisting me with my needs. As a professional dye newbie, i was a bit nervous about what to expect, but BJ was more than happy to answer all of my questions. Additionally, the salon is decorated beautifully, with little dandelion details all over the space (hence the name). Upon entering the salon, you'll be greeted by someone at the front desk who'll offer tea or coffee--wonderful service! I advise parking on the street; there are plenty of street parking spaces available. The overall style took 2 hours, and I was very happy with the result.
