This was an impulse stop and i was happy to look around. The place has their items separated by red, white, orange, rose and other. They had a wide variety of items. I got a mascato (i love sweet wines) an orange wine (dry and tart) and a yuzu sake (strong and citrusy). The staff was great and super friendly. I know nothing about wine so i got assistance in picking the orange wine. The staff member was happy to assist and make jokes. They were able to explain all the wines i had asked about. The place doesnt get crowded but people kept coming in and out. Once paying they provided us a wine bag specifically to add 6 bottle pockets. This place is great. I'm obsessed with Dandelion Wine!! I make a point to come here even though my friends live wayyyyy on the other side of Greenpoint. Why do you ask? It's because they get me and my wine needs!! One the first time I came here, people were sampling cheeses and wines in the back part of the shop. It was a little secret heaven back there and I wanted the invite. I have returned on my bike and was able to get a tiny 2 1/2 glass bottle for my art nights. I came before a ladies night and got a box of wine! A very flavorful and plentiful box of wine. They have tons of options from regions to sizes. I also adore that they have "yes way rose" tote bags and if you come early She-Wolf crusty, delicious bread! They also have their signature yellow plastic cups for the perfect picnic wine holder! And I recently found out they also deliver wine, depending on the distance. I love, love, love that I can cross the street and meander into this wine heaven! Kat H, my man and I walked in to pick something up for a BYOB evening and stumbled upon the weekly (Fridays) wine & cheese tasting! There was a sizable crowd munching and sipping away...from real wine glasses no less! Even the cheese seemed to be of high quality. We aren't wine snobs, or geeks, or even very knowledgeable when it comes to the stuff, but the staff was extremely helpful and educated. Their passion for the beverage shone through and made me instantly want to read up on my wine and get with the program! As we reached for a large, pretty $19.00 bottle, a man began stocking the shelf and told us that although it was a good choice - he was currently unpacking $23.00 bottles of Rioja that taste like $100.00 bottles of wine. He described it in ways I could never rehash, and we just grabbed the bottle and walked out as if we were on autopilot. This man was persuasive. Great service and selection The shop is super cute and hipstery. It is open late compared to other wine shops. The staff is more than happy to help. They won't let you walk out with something won't you like. They don't judge you if you want a big box of wine. They tell you what's good and what's gross lol Definitely browse around. After a year patronizing this place and at least a couple of grand spent, I shall not return. It's simple. Despite a nice selection of wine, although esoteric which often yields mediocre results, the people that work here have either not been trained in basic customer service or are mannerless muppets. I walked in, was the only person in the store, and the two knobs behind the counter must have been checking their myspace or friendster account, because a simple acknowledgement was beneath them. Intent on upholding the tired cliche of manufactured indifference, these two could not give a f**k. At least mommy and daddy are proud they have a job and are "really in to wine". And so, despite the inconvenience of driving in, parking etc., it's back to Astor for me. OH SWEET JESUS THIS PLACE ROCKS MY FACE OFF. Dandy is amazing and whenever I am in Brooklyn I make sure to stop by and stock up on that delicious wine. I'm far from a wine expert but the selections they recommend for me always seem to impress the people I that share them with. Based on my experience, when I pour wine from Dandelion for guests, 9 out of 10 people agree that i am both more attractive AND funnier after the first glass. You can't argue with these results. You know I like NYMag more and more, I feel my love of timeout is dying a slow death... but back to Dandelion. They are really great. In all the ways that Brooklyn is great, this store is too. Unpretentious, really friendly, spacioius, stylish, and smart. These folks are french, and they really know their french wines. There was a Rose, a Chardonnay, an Italian red which was a bit like a Syrah, and another red I don't recall. The proprietors were super friendly, and knowledgeable... But you know we come to greenpoint for the character, and there was no shortage of characters at this place. This sweet wine shop is a great addition to the neighborhood, and continues to advance the re-generation of a sleepy corridor along Franklin Street in the northern-most reaches of Greenpoint. The owner seems to have a strong wine background, and the selection is extremely varied and well thought out. Even the hard-core oenophiles will find at least a few interesting bottles to take home or to bring to their next party. The prices run from cheap (but for great drinking wines), to mid-priced (topping out at around $60 for single vineyard, artisanal, limited production wines). Logistically, the store is well laid out, airy, and with plenty of room to move around. I would love to see just a bit more counter space, since I like to browse, pick a bottle, then go back to the shelves to look some more (baskets would work, though I do not recall if there were any). In addition, dandelion does free wine tastings with high quality, thoughtfully chosen bread, cheese and charcuterie on Fridays. On my first and only visit a week ago I purchased just shy of one mixed case of wine. I thoroughly enjoyed my buying experience. My one issue with this shop - - the mark-up on a number of the bottles was too high - - even with a half case discount, some of the bottles I purchased were still two to four dollars higher than the highest prices in the range on wine-finder.com or some of the other internet resources that compare prices and availability for wines across wine shops in our area. Obviously, not every wine shop has the lowest price on every wine they might stock, but as someone familiar with wine prices, generally, I was able to see this, and always prefer to spend as little as possible to attain the desired bottle. I wish this store was a little closer to my apartment. The owner and all of the staff are very knowledgeable about their product, and can readily give recommendations (good ones) based on a variety of criteria. Their selection appears limited at first glance, but upon closer inspection there is actually good depth and breadth to the variety. There are also a large number of bottles in coolers along the opposing wall, far more than are often represented. And don't forget about the Disco Rack! I have never made it to one of their wine tastings because of my work schedule, but I have heard great things from friends who have gone. Dandelion is awesome. They have an extremely amazing selection of wines, bubbles and sake for extraordinary prices. Their shelves continually change with exciting bottles, and their staff picks are really worth checking out. Their $10-25 bottle range is absolutely second to none!!! A lot of times I go into Dandelion, walk to the staff picks, select a few bottles, and then head to the refrigerated section and pick up a few bottles of their delectable bubbles...They have these awesome adult six-packs where you get a cardboard six-pack for your six bottles of wine. Sometimes, I get two of them...but that's only when I'm planning a party, have a lot of dates planned for the week, or am stocking up for a bunch of dates. So, yeah, you get that I love Dandelion. How about a story? I was on a date near Dandelion on a lovely summer evening...we were debating on whether to go to a bar next or what. I knew my date loved wine, so I suggested we go to Dandelion, pick up a bottle (or two), and drink it by the waterfront. She loved the idea, and we bump into a couple of my acquaintances at the shop. They asked what I was doing, and they joined us with a bottle on the waterfront. We go armed to the GP waterfront with 3 bottles and a bunch of attitude. We got two bubbles, and a bottle of wine. Needless to say, things started to get sloppy after we pounded all three bottles in a relatively short period of time. The end. (End of story, not end of the night). Really great wine shop. Everyone I've spoken to there has been extremely helpful. No one has tried to sell me something overpriced or push anything on me. They also don't pounce on you when you walk in, which is a plus for me but might not be for others. I have been greeted politely every time, though! They also have little tags on select bottles that explain why they're current favs of the staff. These are pretty helpful and, again, not necessarily on only expensive bottles. Also, they deliver! Which I usually feel bad about, but when in desperate need of wine because binge watching Game of Thrones puts you in that kind of mood, they're a great place to call to help.
