Dandy's Drive-In was a must before we hit the road back to California! I discovered Dandy's after noticing a queue of cars lined up and quickly did a search to figure out what all the hype was about. Dandy's is a nostalgic drive-in, serving up burgers, sandwiches, fries, shakes, malts, and sundaes. Service was excellent, and the servers roll out to your car on roller blades, take your order, and deliver it when ready. This is the type of meal that you'll want to enjoy in your car, and that's exactly what we did in the car stall while people watching. Dandy's is a fast casual, retro drive-in, and while it may not be the best burger in town, I give them credit for their charm and hospitality. Dandy's is simple food done well. I have enjoyed Dandy's for years. Last week I discovered they are closed at 7pm instead of 8pm. I stopped by the next day for my Grand Dandy burger and was shocked to get burger with no lettuce to speak of and no ketchup ! Same price. WTF. Have they sold again ?! read more

This review is mostly for gluten-free people who have heard Dandy's is good and wonder if it would be good for them too. I would say just don't. I only went because of a school fundraiser. I brought my own gf bun and asked if they could assemble a burger on it. They said no, which is completely understandable. I asked for the components of a burger so I could assemble myself and made a point of asking about condiments. You can see in the pic what they gave me- maybe that smear on the box crease was the condiment? Also, the food came in a bag. I guess I misunderstood the point of a drive in- isnt it to eat in your car? They don't give you trays or lap mats or anything (I guess I was spoiled by In N Out and thought that was standard). Oh, also the fries are $4 and pretty small orders so don't let them tell you it will be enough for 2 ppl to share. Anyway, I took it home to assemble my burger and I have to say the patty was quite bland. Fries and fry sauce were good. The craziest part was- I just fed the same amount of people AND got a gluten free bun with way better food at Americana for less money. 3 stars because my kids did like their burgers. read more

Dandy's food is reliably good. No argument there. I just bought a couple of $7.50 each small cheeseburgers to take home. Their cheese-less equivalent burgers are a dollar less. I was halfway through the burger before I hit the cheese. It appears that a standard size, presliced cleese slice had been cut into quarters, making a postage-stamp smear on the burger for an extra $1 charge. I understand that times are tough, but when I order a cheeseburger, I really expect to taste cheese in every bite, and even prepackaged cheese slices can't possibly be more than $.50/slice in bulk. Love a good burger, shake and fries. This place has been a staple in Bend for a long time. You pull into your stall and flash your lights when you are ready to order. Car hops are still on roller skates (good for them.. I might have broken an ankle). Menu board is positioned high enough you can see it from all seats in the car. Decided to get the little dandy with bacon and cheese, fries (we will come back to these) and a malt. I was a little bummed (personal issues) that there was not a huckleberry malt/shake available. I Decided to go with cookies and cr. It was so creamy it was hard to suck through the straw until it melted a little bit. Ok.. now for the fries. Look, it's a pretty good burger, but if you think it's the best burger in Bend, you need to get out more. It's definitely gets nostalgia points from grandparents showing you what being served by car hops on roller skates used to be like. Burgers are fresh and beefy with very soft buns. Your fries and onion rings will leave you satisfied as well- especially with the excellent fry sauce and BBQ sauce as sides. The shake options are great, and even the small size is pretty large. These in particular are worth the stop. Service is with a smile, and it's all fresh made so expect a wait if it's busy. Just soak up the atmosphere and pretend it's the 1950s and you can buy a house for $30k. Speaking of what things cost, this place can set you back if you are thinking you are going to pay traditional fast food prices. Expect about $20 a person- More if you get shakes. You are not going to find combo deals here, so if you are trying to watch your spend, skip it, or maybe just stop by for the shakes. Solid food. Nostalgic. Great shakes. Pricey. Such a fun experience! From the rollerskating order takers to the nostalgia of the drive-in experience. Loved it! We stopped on our way back from hiking and sightseeing all day. We were famished. A burger and shake sounded wonderful. We ordered two Grand Dandy's ($9.50 each), tator tots ($3.50) and a 22 oz vanilla shake ($5) to share. Everything was yummy. The burgers are a nice size (1/3 lb) so I couldn't imagine either one of us getting a double. The tots were cooked perfectly, not greasy at all. The shake was thick with a nice vanilla flavor. Overall a great experience, with the food and service. We'll definitely be back! BTW, they take credit cards now. Started a couple months ago. Even better! read more

Dandy's is simply terrible, the quality decreases each day. I have been going here regularly for years, but never again. They continue to raise prices as they decrease the amount of food served. This would be understandable, but the quality continues to diminish. It is worse in the morning, but the dinner crew isn't much better. The bacon is soggy and uncooked, the grilled cheese is always burnt and black, the fries are either overdone or underdone, the onion rings are burnt or come in a soggy clump, the tater tots are burnt on the outside and raw on the inside, the burgers are undercooked or burnt, the chicken strips are terrible, etc. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. THE MANAGEMENT IS INCOMPETENT AND HATES YOU. They also ignore their problems instead of fixing them. You can see mice running around more often than not. The old school concept of parking and girls roller blade up to your window to take your order is a novelty. I find the littlest size is fine but have also chowed down an entire classic. The fries are great with extra sauce but the onion rings are the best I've had since Quinn's in Kona. Now, the shakes are quite yummy. I'm not sure why the aren't transparent about the prices for any desserts but I had the Banana Royal sundae and it was the best as bananas were freshly hand cut, the ice cream was a perfect texture and the hot fudge and whipped cream were icing on the cake. Must try the strawberry shake as it's made with fresh strawberries. The chocolate and the vanilla are amazing. I get the medium which is basically a large so enjoy it daily while you're visiting - I did 3x. read more

Had the double cheese burger and absolutely loved it. Beefy, meaty, cheesy and just right. The milkshake was great and the fries fresh. It was a classic delicious CB in my book and I'll be back for sure. I'm a huge fan of Bend Burger and now I think I love both of these places. Oh man! If you're looking to indulge some good old school burger drive-in fun, look no further! Today I ordered the Grand Dandy (1/3 lb. Bacon Cheeseburger, sauce, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes). The burger itself is well seasoned and would probably be enjoyable even without all the other delicious toppings. The only thing I would change would be to have a little more of the burger sauce (which I'll just ask for next time). We split fries, tater tots, and onion rings. All 3 were pretty good. Don't expect culinary perfection, but are good representations of sides. The burger/fry sauce was also pretty good. Not too sweet and had an interesting texture to it, not just a homogeneous mayo mixture. Overall, a solid throwback spot with good food. read more
