Restaurant Review - Fire on the Mountain - Bend, Oregon I had lunch here with a friend and his wife, whom I just met. This is a very casual restaurant. In fact, pretty much everything about Fire on the Mountain is casual. The staff was mellow, and it is a standard walk-up, order, get a number, and find-a-seat setup. That part went smoothly. We sat outside, which was a comfortable space. The whole restaurant feels airy, relaxed, and yes, very casual. Our order came out fairly quickly. The food was presented well, but this is where the experience fell short. My Straight-Up Chicken Sandwich lived up to its name. It was just that, a straight-up chicken sandwich. Nothing really set it apart from what I could throw together at home. The tater tots were straight out of a school cafeteria or from my own freezer and air fryer. Two thumbs up, however, for the Hawaiian Punch. I checked with my dining companions, and they agreed their meals were on the average side. One mentioned her BBQ chicken salad was overdressed. "Doused" was the word she used. The other said the barbecue sauce on his sandwich was thin and bland. Prices are right in line with what is common these days. Sandwiches run about $16 to $17, with $2 to $3 add-ons for cheese, bacon, etc. With tip, lunch for the three of us came to about $59. That is standard for Bend now, though it still stings. I pressed the printed ticket button but never received one, and I did not bother to ask. Not a big deal. Overall, it was a nice lunch with good company. The space is pleasant, and the staff covered the basics. But the food did not stand out, and there was nothing about the experience that would make me suggest to friends, "Hey, let's go to Fire on the Mountain." This is one of my daughter & my favorite places to go for wings! We are regulars! Many sauce options to choose from. Our fave is the peanut sauce. My other daughter loves the burgers. Great homemade fries and margaritas, too. Great atmosphere & vibe. Staff is always so welcoming, attentive & accommodating. Often pretty loud when packed with people talking (especially as the alcohol kicks in and their voices get louder & louder) & the music going. Also wish they were open every day of the week. But other than that it's a great place to eat & chill for a while. Cool OG rock musicians murals on the walls. We were at the Little Woody beer, Cider and Whiskey festival and Chris from the Fire on the Mountain beer booth sent us to Fire on the Mountain Restaurant assuring us we would get a great meal. WE DID! The food was so GOOD!!! Everyone ordered something different and it was all good. Well thought out burger flavors with great fresh ingredients. Extremely unprofessional management. I had a bad experience here from start to finish. The head person in charge had an attitude with me from the moment I entered. When it was time to pay my $38.00 bill, I handed her a $50.00 note and said the change was for the bartender. She refused to take the cash, claiming the registers were already closed out for the night. Cash is still legal tender, and treating a paying customer like an inconvenience is a terrible way to run a business. I won't be returning. read more

I drove past this place a few times before spotting it. Dark colored sign and a high fence blocking view of costumers from the very busy 3rd street. I'm not sure our annually scorched mountain-living citizens appreciate the name of this place anyway! Rethink? Need a visible sign anyway. As for the food and service. Service was better. Had the "Buffalo Hot" wings. Hot they were not. If you like the top of your head to tingle, go for the unimaginative named "Extra Hot". The bone-in wings are not great, (Buffalo wild wings are better). Fries are twice fried, therefore very good. Short menu of sandos, salads etc makes this a 2-visit stop with high hopes. I love that they offer vegan drum sticks and vegan nuggets. I also love that the sauces are clearly labeled including if they have added sugar. This is amazing. I wish all restaurants were so open and good with labeling. The interior is also beautiful. Unfortunately, our wings came out extremely overcooked. They should be flash fried; just a little golden and they were nearly black. Having already waited over 30 minutes (we got there at 5pm!) for 12 wings, we suffered through them instead of sending them back. They were also really scant with the sauce. There was barely any sauce. We ordered mild buffalo and BBQ. We could barely taste the sauces. The vegan ranch was good, however. The wings were barely edible, mostly bc they were so overcooked. The breaded nuggets were absolutely disgusting. They tasted like rancid fish sticks. I think they must not change their oil regularly. Overall very disappointed but hopefully they will improve. The menu includes two varieties of vegetarian/vegan fake chicken items. They offer beer, cider and wine. Beer is either their own brand on draft or one of a couple local brews in cans. Wine is canned. - 9-piece wings: Ordered with medium Buffalo sauce (they have quite a few choices here) which is about as advertised - medium hot. They are messy with a lot of sauce added. While I ordered and paid for nine pieces (actually half wings), I received twelve. The wings are small. Not bad but really nothing special. If you like wings, you'll probably be satisfied. - Setup is fast casual: order at the counter, they'll bring food and drinks to you. Annoyingly, they ask for a phone number along with your name. I declined to give my phone number - they have no business asking. - There's a very small bar area, a few booths and several high top tables. Mobility challenged folks should have no trouble with the booths. - LOUD. Very loud. They have the music cranked up to the point of making conversation difficult. I took my wings to go although I had wanted to try one of their in-house draft beers. - Adequate parking in front of the restaurant. FOTM is actually on Campfire Hotel property across the street from the main hotel. - Website is borderline useless. It doesn't provide the location or the complete hours of operation. okay, upgrading my original review from 3 stars to 4 stars. Why? the wings still aren't the best or the worst. But the Emma sandwich is awesome. The red onions really pop and give the sandwich some refreshing flavor in addition to the classic combo of buffalo wing sauce and bleu cheese. Lettuce, tomato and garlic aioli (fancy mayo) balance it all out, too. It's a good sandwich. Even as takeout, it wasn't as fresh or hot when I got it home, but it was still really, really good. It's a hefty portion of food. I asked for tater tots instead of fries. the takeout container was pretty heavy. I actually weighed the meal when I got home. Almost 1 lb. 9 oz. Okay, at $16.50...seems expensive for a sandwich. But look at it this way. The side of tots was a big as their side order of tots ordered separately. which is almost $6 if you order it by itself. So that's like $10.50 for the sandwich if you look at it that way. Fair deal. And the tots didn't disappoint. Hot and crispy like the first time I had them. We have been wanting to try this place. We made the plan and went in at around 1pm last week. The lunch crowd had obviously gone as we were the only customers. Not sure its chicken wings. Might be pigeon, I don't know. Very French! Damn the wings are TINY. I ordered two sauces the spicy peanut and the Jamaican Jerk. Lets start with the spicy peanut. It didn't taste like peanuts nor was it spicy. Bland dry tiny wings. Not good. The Jerk flavor was great smothered on the dry tiny wings, earned them two stars. I like the flavor of clove in it. With all the amazing food around Bend this is a place to skip. I don't think they will be around long serving food like that and with a half hour wait. I was disappointed by FOTM people had really hyped to me based off the portland location. I really love chicken wings and was excited for a wing centered restaurant in town. As others have mentioned it's fast casual, with no options then to get in line to order or order online to go. The inside was nice and clean although a little bit loud. We got buffalo hot, cilantro lime and raspberry habenero wings on happy hour. The wings weren't very crispy and were pretty small. The Buffalo hot flavor was the best of the bunch but that's not saying much. I like Buffalo sauce when it's just Frank's red hot, butter and cayenne. This hot sauce was a yellowish color with what seemed like a bunch of additional ingredients which didn't add anything. Raspberry habanero was waaaay too tart and acidic that I didn't taste anything else. Cilantro lime again very very acidic almost like straight citric acid powder (think the stuff they coat sour patch kids in) no hint of cilantro. I wouldnt pay above happy hour prices. We came in around 6pm on a Saturday night, but it was the day Bend got 12" of snow, and were met by (i assume the manager or owner) at the door who was putting a sign up saying that they were closing early due to the weather. We happily obliged and told him we'd come back another time, but he insisted we stick around and we'd be the last customer of the night. We greatly appreciate the service and were eager to eat quick and get out so everyone could get home quick (there were still a few tables eating when we were there). This was our first time visiting, and the space is very nice. They did a great job with the dining area. Food was awesome. I'm not sure why there's so many sub-par reviews of the food. I had my hesitations given we were the last table of the night, but they still put their best foot forward. Husband got 12 wings with a couple different sauces, and i got chicken tenders with two sauces. Both were exceptionally crispy and the different flavors of sauces were great. Tenders were a little smaller than I'd expect, but i got the 5 piece and it was more than enough food for me. Overall, we will definitely return and appreciate the kind service and delicious food.
