I guess it's more of a 2.5. I need to start checking Yelp before booking EVEN if it's the "nicer" hotel where everyone in the wedding is staying... There was another hotel, which was less expensive and I'm gonna bet we would have been happier there as a general rule. The up side of Danford's: only $8 for parking and though the one lot is really small (we were some of the lucky ones who found a spot there initially), many of their rooms (including ours) are closer to a much bigger lot and there's plenty of parking in that lot. The view is great from the resort, but our room had a view of a boring street. The hotel overall is pretty old and fairly run down. The rooms weren't impressive at all. It's close to a lot of great places to eat and walking around is very easy there, but unless you have a room with a view, I'd suggest staying elsewhere. Heck, unless you REALLY CARE about having a room with a view, I'd say you should save your money and stay down the road a few minutes. You'll have to drive more, but you'll probably be happier. Our fridge didn't seem more than slightly cooler than leaving things on the air conditioner. The TV was tiny (not that we watched a lot, but still) and the remote didn't really work. The toilet paper was thin and rough. Carpets were worn, glass on the top of the end table kept almost sliding off, there were no convenient outlets you could use to charge your phone anywhere near you, the clock was totally wrong and neither of us could figure out how to fix it, so we just unplugged it, ... There's no express check-out, so you have to go to the desk personally. In many ways, staying here is like going back in time and not really in a good way. Tiny TV, no express checkout, outdated everything, etc. Also, there was no safe - at least not that we could find and we opened all cabinets and closets. The experience BEFORE getting there was also pretty terrible. They couldn't answer questions about parking very well and were pretty rude when responding to some inquiries. The staff I encountered on site was great, but I should have listened to the pre-arrival experience and gone elsewhere. My advice is to save money and stay somewhere you'll probably like more. read more

Gave us two free drink tickets to the bar..but the bartender couldn't act more annoyed. Hated this place and left early. I was very disappointed by my experience at the Danford. It's the only place to stay in Port Jeff and looks like it would be a cute place based on what I saw online when I was booking but I was deceived. The two redeeming things are location and it's on a marina so it has pretty views. It's so expensive and not worth it at all. The first room we stayed in had cracks all over the bathroom floors to the point that it was chipping away and you could see a hole. The shower was terrible, the two temperatures were the Atlantic Ocean in the dead of winter or boiling water. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everyone having conversations in other rooms or walking around. We changed rooms on our last night because we were so fed up with staying up all night long. There were a couple weddings happening (that we were not part of) and the bridal party groups were so loud and the venue was right across from our room. The second room we had was updated a lot more recently and felt cleaner but it also had paper thin walls and the world's smallest bathroom. On my bill after I checked out of Danfords, I saw that it said the destination fee included parking and a welcome drink... no one offered us a welcome drink. I did however PAY for the worst martini I've ever had. In the end, I personally would not recommend staying here until they do serious updates. It's not worth it. read more

Not sure why this place has such mixed reviews. I made a last minute reservation online. Everything went smooth on the reservation part. I actually was running late on checking in and received a call from the staff as a reminder that my room was ready. The room was amazing! I'm pretty sure I booked a king size bed but it seemed more like a California king. The room was spotless and the sheets were clean. The room was also pretty modern and well kept. The bathroom and massive and spotless. It included a shower with the right amount of water pressure. Because of the pandemic their kitchen was closed by the time I checked in but there are plenty of restaurants in the area that are available for curb side pick up. If you're looking for a place with a great view and great service, this is the place to stay. I was disappointed that I forgot to take pictures, but will update once I go back! read more

Sanfords was understaffed when we were there. There was a large wedding party at the bar which may have been the reason. We had reservations and it took a long time for a hostess to come to the hostess stand to seat us. Then we waited for wait service at our table and when nobody came for 15 minutes, we got up and left because we had the feeling that everything was going to be slow. In addition to that, they changed the menu since the last time we were there and there were not very many choices that excited us. We hope this was a one time occurrence. read more

Danfords hotel is very clean, spacious , and well furnished. This is my second time staying here and not disappointed. My first room had a fireplace which was a nice suite. This room was just as good without the fireplace. I love that the bathroom has the heated lamp. I met a couple that came down from Connecticut for a little get away which is a nice idea. We spent Labor Day weekend there this year. My husband and I just wanted a weekend . We enjoyed the beautiful views. The property was gorgeous. The rooms comfortable, clean and beautiful. We ate at the restaurant on the property for a dinner which was delicious. We had Sunday Brunch there as well which was terrific. They had Live music both nights and it was a pleasant stay. We had been going to Danfords for years, but after our last experience in 2024, WE WILL NEVER GO BACK AGAIN. On that visit, Danfords appeared to be under new management, with a front desk lady (who acted like a manager, but who claimed not to be the manager, and who told us the manager was not available). In our opinion, she appeared to take great pleasure in being abrasive, snarky, and essentially calling us liars in regard to the room we told her we had reserved. How did this happen? We did not have a printed copy of the Danfords' confirmation with us when we arrived, and according this lady, Danfords' own records showed a reservation for a different room, and without a fireplace--even though we clearly remembered we had reserved the room we wanted (we had it previously, and it had a fireplace). We had discussed this with the reservation clerk months earlier. Now my spouse wanted to leave. And the front desk lady, in addition to insulting us, threatened that if we left without taking the room shown on their reservation system, we would still owe the full amount for that room either way. In short, Tough Luck! In addition to telling us that the room we had booked was not available, she told us that Danfords had no working fireplaces at that time of the year (Spring). So, goodbye Danfords. For the price, it is not difficult to find a better place with a view that beats those old power plant towers. read more

I would give it no stars if i could but i had to chose one. We stayed at Danfords for our anniversary. The place is terrible right from check in, the girl checking us in did not smile and had an attitude. We stayed in the presidential suite which was over $1800.00 for 2 nights with taxes and fees. The room does not call for the cost. Our balcony had 2 dirty wine glasses and beer can on it. Which must have been there for days because it was raining when we got there and two days prior. Our bedroom had a stand up tower fan because the air conditioner did not work in the bedroom. When we went to take showers the first morning the bottles hanging in the shower, the body wash and conditioner were empty. There were only three tissues in the tissue box. I tried to call housekeeping there was no answer. I then call the front desk and tell them and they said housekeeping would bring them shortly. We then went out for a few hours and when we came back our room was not done and no supplies yet! I call the front desk again and then went down to get our supplies we needed! Then at 3:50pm we received a notice under our door that we had the do not distribute sign on and we needed to call to have our room serviced before 3:00! Mind you the do not disturb sign was off the door by 9:30am and i had already called for service which they said would be shortly. They were trying to cover themselves! Then i go online on their site and find out there is a 29.00 destination fee each day! For welcome drinks which i did not know to ask for and were never offered at check-in and to refresh 2 bottles of water each day! We ate at their restaurant the Ferryman's grille for breakfast the day we checked out. I ordered eggs with home fries and my husband ordered an egg sandwich. We waited 1 hour and 20 minutes for our food! The server never came back over and after complaining he finally comes over and apologizes and said someone walked out in the middle of their shift. I said that was unacceptable and we should have been told. Then by the elevator by our room a ceiling panel was missing. I would absolutely never recommend this property to anyone!!!!! There is no way our room should have been the way it was for that cost! The view was not even great all you see are boats! The service is so unacceptably in everything you do! We have always loved coming here. we got engaged here and try to come each summer. The experience has always felt "upscale "but over the last few years it has changed. The bartender was actually wearing pants so low that his underwear was showing. Sure in certain bars , that's ok snd even expected, but not at Danfords! He just threw the drinks on the bar no coaster no napkin no smile!! then when we were done he yells across the bar out total. who does that ?! Danford's has a fantastic location right on the water and adjacent to the ferry. We recently stayed for a weekend in a room in the Galley building. It was a very hot humid day and walking into our room was a bit like walking into an oven. After fiddling a bit with the AC I did get it to cool off a bit more, but we definitely could have used a better AC unit. The rooms are definitely dated and need a major update. The wallpaper was peeling in a spot in the bathroom, a towel rack was missing and there was paint splashed all over the floor of the shower. For the price per night I was really expecting a bit better. The biggest issue by far though is the parking. The hotel does not have any dedicated parking spaces but charge you $8 a day to park in any of the village spots. The village spots are almost always full unless you are looking at 6:00 AM. We lucked out the few times we needed to find a spot, but spent a fair amount of time circling. All in all the room is adequate, but not for the price you are being charged. read more

Also ordered a beet salad that was swimming in a pool of dressing with undercooked shrimp. All you are paying for is the view. Beware. read more

Jules was our server and was wonderful! Very pleasant and attentive-- two thumbs up! The food was also fantastic! Kudos to the chef on the fish and chips and swordfish dishes. Highly recommend for great food, fun and lively atmosphere! Live music was a plus as well. read more

Horrible! Horrible! Horrible! After speaking with Tiffany about an overcharge on my credit card, she had me speak to the main manager, who was terribly nasty to me. I signed a food bill for $30.00. Danfords charged me $87.32 according to my credit card statement. The manger told me there was a glitch in their computer system. It looks like I was charged someone else's amount in my party by mistake. They wouldn't reimburse me back for the extra $50 they overcharged me. It's a shame because the food was yummy! Planning to attend a wedding in the area, we booked Danfords from May 5 - 8, 2023, hoping the mid $300 per night rate meant we'd be in for a treat. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. Our old, tired room furnishings greeted us, along with three plastic "Dollar Store" hangers hung on a metal rack with a drawer underneath There was no closet in the room. When we asked Housekeeping for more hangers, they said they had none. We finally had to tell them to take them from another room, which they did. The front desk staff was rude, almost to the point of rolling their eyes when they saw us coming their way. Everyday we were there, the coffee/tea station in the lobby was out of coffee, hot water, tea and milk! There were no servers at the outside bar and the inside bar was staffed with only one bartender, who was frazzled from all the patrons yelling their orders at him. Shame on you Danfords, you are blessed with a lovely location and this is the best you can do?! read more

Live music on the boardwalk but outside bar not open and no servers working either. Inside at the bar. Three deep at the minimum with one bartender!!! Took my business elsewhere. Then on a beautiful Memorial Day Monday afternoon 2 pm. The service was even worse!!! Same situation No outside bar on Memorial Day. Kick off to summer.
