Listen if you're looking for a 5 star resort then go to another part of the world. This is Fire Island and expect anything to happen. For everyone complaining about px it's a 5 month a year business. Our experience was top notch, stayed at the main house employees were excellent, they provided a cart w chairs, umbrellas a lock, towels, bikes, free kayaking, water,ice free breakfast along with other locations you can use. Room was small but it's we just used it to sleep and shower. BTW shower was awsome. Spent time in the main courtyard with our friends, employees were attentive. I can also see an issue staying at the off site locations being loud. Looking forward coming back next year. read more

We stayed for 3 nights in the Bay Breeze 3-bedroom suite at Palms Bay at the end of July. Great location right on Bay Walk, next to Matthew's Seafood House and across from Castaway Bar & Grill, where we would go each day for happy hour oysters, just $1.50 each. Loved that it looked right out onto the bay, and had a private sand "beach," with lounge chairs, little bar (occasionally attended by bartender), beach volleyball court right in front, that we used several times a day (also a dock, with kayaks to check out). We (and especially our teenage daughter) loved being right in Ocean Beach, where you can walk to everything - restaurants, coffee shops, shopping, bars, beach; ferries, tons of teenagers everywhere - some staying with families, and many more coming over by ferry for the day. The unit itself was nice and modern, but very small, especially for the price: about $1,300/night, including taxes and fees. Each of the bedrooms was barely bigger than the bed in it, and with almost no storage - no closets, or even hooks, and two of the rooms just had tiny 2 drawer dressers; one room had a full dresser. The bathroom was especially tiny, think like sailboat bathroom - unless you're as skinny as my daughter, you have to turn sideways to get past the sink to the toilet. It says it sleeps 8 w/ the sofa bed in living room, but we were 5 people, and I wouldn't have wanted any more. There's a little kitchenette w/ fridge and microwave, and glasses, but nothing to cook anything; mostly for heating up leftovers from eating out. Several "perks": (1) complimentary breakfast outside by the main lobby - but pretty meager - cereal, store-bought pastries in a bag, yogurt, bagels (but no toaster, anywhere, there or in rooms). Coffee, tea. That's it. We did it once; (2) complimentary champagne in afternoon - why not?!; (3) passport card that got you 10% discount at several of the local restaurants; not bad, when we remembered to mention it; (4) complimentary bikes, kayaks, beach towels, wagons, beach chairs & umbrellas. Service was a bit spotty; here, like many spots on the island, they seemed to be short-staffed, and many of the "workers" were super young kids, like under 14. At one of the local bars, a comedian joked, "I have food in my fridge that's older than the kids working here!" But, overall, had a great time here at Fire Island, one of our favorite spots on our 2-week East Coast trip, especially for our teenage daughter.m read more

Love the place. Been there a few times. A little pricey? Heck it's Ocean Beach, everything is pricey. Breathing the air is pricey there. But we get clean, great rooms with comfortable beds, great air conditioning. The last couple of rooms we took seem to have been renovated so they are sparkling new. The grandkid says he wants to move into the Palms, I had to tell him that's impossible. But apparently he gives it 5 stars too. Slept in what they said was a 4 person suite . Woke up with a back ache that was so bad I couldn't move , only to discover there was a hole through the box spring so my mattress was caving in . Not clean at all . The only person that I think was very nice was the manager Kerry . The owner was the most rude person I've ever encountered running a hospitality business. He obviously doesn't want people to return . I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone . I would say go to ocean bay park and stay at the fire island hotel . read more

the palms staff is AMAZING! Left my kindle and they sent it on the next ferry out with someone to hand it to me right off the boat. They made our stay with 17 people amazing and were so attentive and kind, always providing recommendations and help when we needed. The staff is so accommodating and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious (try the chocolate chip muffin) and the French toast was amazing. The short: as a previously loyal customer of this hotel, I would now strongly discourage people in my network to stay at this hotel-- and will definitely not be back. The management here is a disgrace to customer service professionals, and the hotel is exorbitantly overpriced for what it is. The longer (and I mean longer! This review is 5 years in the making, so sit tight, Yelpers): my friends and I LOVE Fire Island, and especially love ocean beach. We've been coming to FI as a group of friends for over 5 years. In those 5 years, we've been loyal customers, booking in advance at the Palms & spending 4-6 weekends per summer at the hotel. Some staff members are great: Kerry, Nick & the younger staff have been lovely. But, our experience this summer with management, especially Laura, has been horrible & proved that they don't value loyal customers. Without over complicating this review, we took advantage of a deal where you make reservations a year in advance to secure a room and get a few perks. All summer the Palms staff struggled to find our payments-- when we paid almost a year in advance. And, they weren't nice about it. Several Fridays on Fire Island this summer were spent looking for old credit card statements to prove that we had actually paid. We would get one-off apologies, but no reimbursement for the stress caused during a vacation. The most recent trip, we were staying in one of their smaller rooms near the bay. I'm laying in bed, and the air conditioning unit cover falls off of the wall and onto the bed next to me-- missing me by a few inches. I was PISSED, after dealing with shit customer service and subpar accommodations for ~$400/per person for a long weekend. I went to the front to ask to speak to management. I was told Laura was out, and I left my number asking her to call me. They moved our room across the hallway, to a much nicer bay view room (thanks, Kerry). But, we had to wait 45 minutes for the room to be cleaned (missed dinner reservations) and when we got in the new room there was still sand on the floor, half empty shampoo bottles in the shower, and the room was barely cleaned. The next day we get a call from Laura, the hotel manager. For EVERY SINGLE complaint that I made to her, she had an excuse or retort. She was condescending and defensive. She offered us free kayaking & cited the fact that we had an upgraded room-- even though I again asked for a room discount. A few of things: 1) it was raining & I've seen people use the kayaks for free. 2) the room upgrade was nice, but why didn't we get that room to start with? The hotel staff knows we've had a difficult summer and that there have been many issues that have impacted our stays negatively. If they really valued loyal customers, we would've gotten that room to start with. This event & summer aside, I still wouldn't recommend the Palms. The rooms aren't that clean. We've seen dried blood on towels & sheets, there's always sand in the room, the bath towels are small & scratchy -- and the beds aren't comfortable. And, for the prices you can go stay at a much nicer hotel in another location. The Palms is one of the nicest & most convenient places in Ocean Beach, and the Bay Area is great... but we will be finding new accommodations moving forward. House rental or Blue Waters are better options. If you're considering hotels, I'd strongly advise against the Palms Hotel. read more

For over $600 a night we got an unclean bathroom and linens (which we insisted they change) a clogged sink that got fixed on the 5th night, bug bites that were not mosquitos , little or no response to requests for dry towels, or trash removal, a nasty owner response when we asked for some satisfaction. It's difficult to pick out an overall star rating for this hotel, and here's why: BOOKING: I booked the Tower Efficiency room for 4 guests (The Palms Bay- a few blocks away from the main office). I booked it about 3 months in advance for a girls' weekend, and Frank at the front desk assisted me. I can't say enough good things about him. He was helpful in every sense, from helping me find the right room for my needs to transportation advice on how to take the ferry, how much it would cost, and where to park. The booking was stress free- I paid in advance and we had no issues. CHECKING IN: Our party arrived early, so understandably we couldn't check in just yet. We were able to store our luggage around the corner and use the hotel facilities, including the private bay beach (kind of like a large sandbox with a dock, and equipment such as tubes, etc). Check in time was 430pm, but they do call to let you know if the room is ready early. We changed into our bathing suits in the one stall restroom in the main building, and the state of that bathroom was horrendous. Toilet paper everywhere, it was unclean, tiny, and smelled far from fresh. This was disappointing since so far my experience had been great. We got the call that the room was ready around 330pm! There's no office in the other Palms buildings besides the front desk, so you pick up your keys and let yourselves in. THE ROOM: Here's where I was really disappointed. The room was very small and rather unclean. I didn't expect it to be huge by any means (I know Fire Island is small!), but it was definitely cozy for 4 people (and I live in NYC so I'm familiar with living in small quarters!). Our room had 2 full sized beds, and a kitchenette. All the necessities, but tiny. The restroom was very small as well. There was a dirty rag on the floor in the shower upon our arrival, and some of the sheets had stains that resembled dried blood. The bed is not the most comfortable, but the comforter was the softest thing ever. The floor plan of the entrance is a bit odd and super cramped, making it difficult to enter and exit. It was in the corner with the closet and bathroom doors in the way (if I'm making any sense).The air conditioner worked well though! So that's one thing. Everything worked fine- it just could've been a lot more sanitary. CHECKING OUT: A breeze. Stopped by the front to drop off the keys. No issues here. OTHER: The private bay beach (the "sandbox") is great! There's plenty of seating, right on the ocean. There's an attendant to help you and a restroom on site. Towels, chairs, umbrellas are all provided. Free water too! You are allowed to bring food and drink here, which is a huge plus because that's not allowed at the public beach. All the staff I encountered were very nice, courteous and helpful! Including tax, the room for one night came out to be $630. I don't mind paying for a nice hotel stay, but I felt that there could be more attention paid to the rooms, considering price per night. read more

The Palms Hotel Reading others reviews, I suspect there may be hotel-guest prioritization based upon the different room rentals, but no room as small as the one we stayed in should ever expensive as it was at The Palms. And yes, we have been to Europe. We paid extra for a single room with a queen size bed and our own bathroom for $415 a night. The bed took up the entire room. The ENTIRE room. I've broken my experience at The Palms Hotel into two different lists with key takeaways for each. Highlights: -The hotel supplied wagons, beach chairs, bikes and beach towels. These are necessities on the island, especially the wagons. The young gentlemen who helped us daily were all around A+ -The hotel's central location in Ocean Beach. Walking distance from the ferry and all the shops and restaurants. -The charming and sweet young hotel staff. College kids on summer break who were always so helpful and offered us help and water daily. Fire island itself- is just an amazing place truly unforgettable. Lowlights: The room- when I tell you the bed took up the entire room I truly mean it. We had to squeeze through the door to get in. The mosquitos- The first night we arrived I thought maybe it was just our room but the mosquitos linger in the hallways waiting to get into your room. The hallway is covered in dead mosquitos left on the walls. Room Cleaning - the room was cleaned once while we were there 4 nights. It was comically sandy, by day 3 we just wore our shoes. Internet / Wifi- Room 206 gets absolutely no wi-fi. (And the staff knows it) Water Bottles in room- there were none I saw into a few other suites that were being cleaned (nice!) that looked great and well maintained. I suppose $700 a night for a tiny room is how it goes in the NYC area in the summer, but overall this hotel was subpar. The staff we interacted with were fairly helpful and the free beach towels, beach chairs and bikes were huge. By far the best part of our stay. Additionally, our room was ready two hours early and despite being in the main stretch of ocean beach, our room was fairly quiet. However, the room itself was not clean and outdated. We had to practically beg for enough bath towels. Paint was peeling off the walls, and the headboards were stained. When we arrived, there were hairs on the bath towels and in the sheets. Additionally, the shower was nasty, and the shower curtain did not touch the floor so the whole bathroom would be flooded every time you showered. Combined with the sand everywhere from the beach...it was gross. The air conditioner did not really work and was extremely loud, so the room was always very warm and humid. The location was nice but we did not spend anytime in the room except to sleep due to all the above. Overall, we had a nice weekend but would not stay here again. We just returned from a two night stay at the Palms (efficiency suite on the bay side). This is our 5th year staying there for our annual girls trip. There were many disappointments this trip. For $500 a night your room is not cleaned daily. I've never stayed at a hotel that didn't have daily housekeeping! By the third day our floor was so sandy that we had to wear shoes to walk around! It's a beach hotel, sand is inevitable and the floors need to be cleaned daily. In addition, the public bathrooms were atrocious! Of the two bathrooms only one of the toilets was working and the other bathroom had overflowing garbage, toilet paper on the floor, and a dirty, grimy floor. I feel as though the Palms no longer is concerned with customer service. They are taking for granted that there aren't many other options for hotels in Ocean Beach and they think they can offer sub par service without fear of losing customers. Well there are other options on the island and we will certainly look into them if the Palms doesn't step up their game! read more

Stayed here before in 2018 we had a very good experience so naturally I was hoping for the same . Second visit was sub par . The biggest gripe I had was when they were presented with my complaint , which was valid they mismanaged me right off the bat They clearly took no responsibility . They lured us in under the premise they have "free water activities " on the bay side . Kayak , paddle board and rafts" the first day we went they were mostly occupied so we waited about an hour and then were told by the staff member "No more rentals today I am by myself and i have to play waiter now" confused I asked again bc he told Us family of 4 to Wait right here .... in the sun with 2 young kids . The employee then suggested we go to the beach, they also tell you before you come they provide beach chairs and towels and a cart to carry all the stuff to otherside of Island . Perfect we make our way to the main building . This is where problem 2 occurs - We went to get our complementary beach chairs etc only to find out at 12 pm they HAVE NONE to give us . My first thought is Where can I buy them bc here we are 2 kids 2 adults no towel no chair no umbrella and it's 90 sunny. . The young kid working said I have 2 umbrellas I thought ok can you take my number and let me know when 2 or more chairs are returned I'll come back . He says no it's first come first serve ... hmmm ok I'm here trying to be served . So my family is sitting off to the side I tell him I'm going inside to talk to someone I'll be right back . I went in to the main office to tell them what was going on at BOTH their locations bc I felt this is not right . What are we supposed to do with no towels etc . She told me sorry owner is off the island !! Back to get the umbrellas and buy some towels and the kid at the station GAVE MY UMBRELLAS away after 3.5 minutes !!! My family was still sitting there not knowing they had to guard the umbrellas . Absurd boy said well the other guest just took it. They were waiting too ! Ugh my god a day supposed to be so relaxing was such a shit show. .. we went to the park went to lunch and texted (this is the new thing these days ) with the owner Laura who was nice at reservation but the moment you have and issue she fails . No leadership , no integrity , no accommodation like hey , let us do something nice for you guys , just excuse after excuse . Yes we are all aware it's covid as patrons to your business you should go above . Like here's an idea get more chairs umbrellas and carts ! Borrow some from the neighboring hotels and rental stores . You own a a business charge $650 a night you advertise something live up to it ! You lost a paying customer over a problem you could have solved probably for free !!! Nonsense . This place is an absolute dump. I am paying $350 per night for a room in the hotel. It is just barely larger than the bed. The bed itself squeaks and sags. The room has constant mosquitos which I am having to swat at in order to try to sleep. One of the drawers fell off its hinges when I tried to open it. Do not stay at this hotel unless you know exactly which room you will be given. We were placed in a room in a very old building directly across from a nightclub that did not close until 4 am. The room was uninhabitable. We could hear everything our neighbors next door were saying and the loud music from the street went on until 4am. When we complained multiple times in the evening and into the night we were offered nothing and told to call the police about the noise which we did. In February 2017 I contacted Laura and got pricing for an event to take place in the summer of 2018. As details progressed, I contacted her again in May 2017 and her demeanor had changed from very pleaseant to one in which she clearly couldn't be bothered and she told me that Ashley, the event planner, would call me within the week. When Ashley didn't call, I sent an email to Laura who told me that Ashley would indeed call me. Week after week went by with no call even after several emails requesting a call back. It wasn't until I told Laura via email that I would write this negative review and file complaints with the hotel owners, did Ashley call me. Ashley was also pleasant and I went ahead and made the reservation and gave my credit card information. I received a confirmation email that explained that although the guests would be responsible for their respective room and food/drink plan fees, that I would be responsible for the $750 venue fee to collect from the guests. Since I needed clarification of this fee and if there was an alternative to me being on the hook for it, I had asked Ashley via email to call me but the reply I got was from Laura asking what she could do for me. I asked her to have Ashley call me (since Ashley was the person who I had made the arrangements with, I didn't see the need in speaking with Laura who clearly pawned me off on Ashley to begin with). After several attempts via email failed to get Ashley to call me back, I called the hotel and left a message for Ashley to call me, she never did. One response email from Laura said that Ashley was out of the office and would call me when she returned on Monday, that call never came either. This morning, August 28, 2017 I sent another email to Ashley and Laura called me. It was clear to me that they did not want my business nor were they willing to work with me on the details of this venue fee. I cancelled my reservation and I told them that I would not recommended them to anyone. I don't know how this hotel has survived as a business if this is how they operate. In all my almost 50 years on this planet, I've never seen anything like it. They wasted a lot of my time. Use another hotel. read more

Beautiful and serene! My husband booked our anniversary weekend here and the hotel had the nicest card and champagne waiting for us in the room.. how sweet! And the whole staff knew we were celebrating and were so helpful. It was a little cold when we went but there was still lots to do.. we borrowed the hotels bikes and rode them to the beach where we got married. Lots of nice memories! read more

I stayed this week for two nights in this hotel and we stayed in what is called a mini suite.. the room was clean and right but kind of tight for claiming to sleep 4 people.. I spent a little over 1000 dollars for two nights and it's a little pricey for what you get. This price includes beach chairs you can bring to the beach and towels but that's it. I mean they even charge you for coffee and that's not even cheap. The staff at the front desk were okay I didn't really need interact with them much. The hotel has several locations on ocean beach so you have use of the courtyard or something they call a private beach which is basically a little yard with some sand and beach chairs. In the mini suite you walk in the door and are greeted by a gigantic king bed but it sticks out so far to the wall the you can't walk straight you have to shimmy sideways to get to the second back bedroom. You can't really hang out in the room unless you are hanging out on the bed. I understand they are trying to accommodate 4 people but it just doesn't work. The bathroom was cleanish and updated but dead mosquitos were everywhere. Then shampoo and soap they give can be a little more generous considering it's supposed to be for 4 people . The give you one tiny bar of soap kind of cheap ...They do give you ample amounts of towels and you do have two refrigerators in the room. We stayed there 2 times this year and it is always a great experience. We love this hotel for a getaway with just me and my husband. They have everything you need so you can travel light! It was very hard for me to decide between one and two stars because the Palms does have some cons. I take giving poor reviews seriously, and I did provide my feedback to the manager via email after I received an automatic email from Laura after my stay asking for feedback. I received no response to my feedback. We chose the Palms because we didn't want to be in a party, frat house environment, and were willing to pay the $500 a night premium for an upscale experience. The staff was pretty horrific, for the most part. The Good: Great location, at least during the day, near to beaches, restaurants, walking and bike paths. Great beach amenities with the towels, bikes, etc. (although note for biking enthusiasts the length you can actually bike is fairly small due to regulations). As others have noted, staff attitude varies, with some friendly, some not, and some not very helpful. I don't think they hire staff professionally trained in hotel management. The Bad: Hair from previous guests all over the room, including in the dying flower/plant in the room. Dead bug stuck on the wall. The plastic shower head literally broke while I was using it and I had to shower with water running from a pipe, third world prison style. When I went to the front desk and told the person on duty she tried to scold me and said "well in thirty years I've never experienced that!" or something to that effect - in which case I told her - in twenty years of traveling at all kinds of properties around the world for work and pleasure - neither have I - not at a $29.99 motel six - and certainly not at a property billing itself as luxury and charging $500 a night. That shut her up. The other really horrific thing was that in the online booking I had requested the building furthest away from the main part of town, but we were put in the one closest to town. In the wee hours, a bunch of frat-like kids in their twenties made themselves at home in the properties common area (they either missed the ferry or just decided to party through the night) and wreaked havoc all night long. There was no one on staff at the desk to complain to. We got almost no sleep. I mentioned this to the staff the next day and they just shrugged. I also mentioned this to a shopkeeper (buying aspirin and water the next day) and she said the hotel absolutely should have had someone on duty to guard their common area, and call the police, as this type of problem is a growing occurrence in FI. The "upscale" photos on the Palms site are smoke and mirrors, and they are absolutely resting on their laurels of having some guaranteed business due to the limited supply and demand on Fire Island. They should have some pride of ownership (which is clearly lacking) to live up to the expectations that they set on their website.For the cost, I'd go to Clegg's or one of the other motels for significantly less. read more

Bathrooms smell. Front desk obnoxious. For $500/night you would expect a bathroom that didn't stink. Also no bath tub to wash your children. Because for $500/night the hotel doesn't have a pool for my 6 year old and 4 year old to swim in. I asked the front desk if there was a place on the island that had a pool we could pay for the day. Her snooty response was "no we don't, but we have a great big ocean you can swim in". Well lady, why don't you put your 4 year old in the ocean with the 5-7 foot waves. P.S. - Try to be courteous to your customers that are spending $500/night for a closet size room, not on the beach, with a foul-smelling bathroom you can barely fit in. read more

Stayed there for two nights last summer. Other reviews have mentioned how small the rooms are so I won't go into that. There is one thing I feel very obligated to share with anyone reading this. Our room was INFESTED WITH MOSQUITOS. We could not get rid of them. Even in the bathroom. Management was incapable of helping or even caring. Because of the ZIKA VIRUS and WEST NILE returning I would be very afraid to go near that place this summer. BE CAREFUL. Hands down THE WORST HOTEL I have had the misfortune of booking. I paid $334 for a HORRIBLE "Two Bedroom Suite with a shared bathroom" that was the size of a broom closet. I bought a Groupon for this hotel after looking at their website which makes it appear like the property is on the beach. It is NOT. We arrived at noon and were told that check-in time is at 4pm. Fine. We return at 4pm to find a mob of people being told to return at 5pm because the rooms were not ready. Check out time is 11am which gives the staff 5 hours to clean the rooms but NONE of the rooms were ready. One of the three teenagers in charge of the front desk whips out a long box of drink vouchers to hand out to disgruntled guests. Apparently they are used to giving these out and extending check out time to 12pm. We proceeded to CJ's (a sister property) to get our "Bartender's Choice" drink and I was served the worst margarita on the planet. We return at 5pm and were finally given the keys to our "two bedroom suite a shared bathroom". As I enter our room I was almost bowled over by a teenager running out of the room with a rag in her hand. She had just finished turning over the room and was fleeing the scene and for good reason. The comforter and blanket were damp and there was sand and hair on the pillows and bedsheets! What the.....? So we complain at the front desk and were told that they would turnover the room again when we went out for dinner. A teenager comes 10 minutes later telling us to get out of the room because she has to clean it. Ugh! Our two bedroom suite with a shared bathroom was terrible. No closet, no table, TV remote was not working, blinds were messed up and the bed, the lovely bed, was worse than any bed I have slept on at a no star hotel in a third world country. The bathroom was at one end so if you stayed in the far bedroom then you'll have to go through the other bedroom to get to the bathroom. We go down for dinner and were met by what I think was the owner offering fake apologies and homophobic comments about Cherry Grove. Everything about that woman was fake, head to toe. Y'all know what I mean. The following morning we ask for the proudly advertised "Starbucks Coffee for $3.00 a cup" and the free pastries. NO COFFEE, NO PASTRIES. We finally see yet another teenager arriving with the coffee and pastries at around noon, just in time for lunch. We left The Palms shaking our heads and wondering how on earth it got 4 stars on Yelp. Now I'm glad to see that it's down to 3. Hopefully it will be down to 2 stars after everybody they screwed over writes a review. read more

Stayed here for the weekend, small rooms are ok but old beds and too much light coming into the room made sleeping difficult. Room was sandy and not well cleaned at all, found a random persons old sock under the bed. Staff was friendly but largely not helpful. Private beach was nice, don't expect much from the breakfast other than a Danish, coffee and bagel. Would have been worth it if the hotel charged $125 per night, not $500! read more

I read some reviews before I came here and arrived with low expectations, fearful that I'd be sleeping in furry sheets and needing to contact my doctor about a round of antibiotics when I got home. Thankfully I was pleasantly surprised with the actual results... I thought our 4 person efficiency at the Palms Bay was well worth the price for a mini-vacation on Fire Island. While there were a few mosquitos flying around the room, it was basically clean and comfortable. We didn't notice any foreign hairs on our sheets, and the pillowcases were clean. The staff was EXTREMELY attentive and made the stay totally worthwhile! Our attendant, Ghita, made sure we always had fresh towels, ice, and water - and he even fetched drinks and take out for us so we didn't have to leave the private bay beach area. The other staff members, especially Kenny, were also very helpful. The rooms are teeny tiny, but four 30-something ladies were all able to shower and get ready without too much hassle. If you're staying here, make sure you know exactly what you're getting in the room! I was stuck sleeping on a pull-out sofa that wasn't too comfortable. The fridge and microwave in the room was great and saved us from eating out every meal. I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again. ...minus one star because the hotel was only able to give us one key, claiming that they "didn't know where the other ones were." But the staff that was always on duty at the Palms made sure we were able to get into the room if we didn't have the key with us. Still, it makes me wonder exactly how secure the contents of our room were if keys had gone missing. Luckily nothing was taken from us. And in regard to one of the reviews of the Palms Bay from a while ago - we did have privacy locks and "Do Not Disturb" signs in our room. So maybe the hotel is listening to some of the criticism. read more

My friend and I stayed at The Palms on August 24, 2021. Our stay was delightful. The hotel manager, Brie was especially accommodating to all of our requests. She truly went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable. Our room was clean and had just enough space for our needs. The complimentary breakfast was perfect. The Palms in Ocean Beach offers very nice accommodations at a premium price, but hey you pay a premium for everything on Fire Island. The Palms is made up of several different buildings located throughout Ocean Beach. Last year we stayed in the main building. It was really nice, but wow was it small. I mean we had to keep our luggage in the bathroom in order to have 4 square feet of room to move around in. No real room between the bed and the end of the room either, well there was about 6 inches but that's it, I literally had to slide across the bed to get to the other side. Hallways are big enough for one person to walk down at a time. It's tiny, but it is kept clean, nice and updated inside and we weren't in Fire Island to stay in the room all day so not a real big deal. This year we shared a suite with another couple in a different building. What a difference in terms of space. The suite was basically a one-bedroom apartment with a pull out couch and day bed in the living room (sleeps 6). There was a full kitchen and a deck. There was tons of room and it's also very updated. The Palms offers BBQs to use at their main location and at their private bay "beach". Which is great. To be honest, we will probably never stay in a regular room again. Our first full day housekeeping never came and we had to ask that our room be cleaned around 5pm. After we did, housekeeping came right away. Now on to the service, if you plan on staying here make sure you bring your patience with you. This is the only "high end" hotel I've ever stayed at that only employees teens and people in their early twenties. 90% of the staff seemed like stoned surfers, they are all very nice, but it takes a lot of patience to deal with them. Seriously, I think Jeff Spicoli actually works here. The other 10% of the staff seems helpful enough. Leo in the courtyard was very helpful and never minded grabbing our bags or cooler so we could grab something, *cough* cold beer *cough*, out. He also set us up every morning with chairs, umbrellas, towels and a wagon for the beach and said hello by name. Overall, if you are looking to stay a few nights in Ocean Beach, you can't go wrong with The Palms. read more

Location is really key because it's legit in the middle of the action and a very quick walk to the ferry/water taxi. Staff was friendly. The rentals for bikes, towels and beach chairs is VERY convenient. Our room was really small but clean...enough. When we got there, there was sand all over the floors. I get it it's a beach town but if its my sand that's fine, someone who stayed before us and walked around with sand on them - and the housekeeping didn't sweep, that kinda made me get grossed out when i took off my flip flops on day 1. We were in a bungalow when we stayed, there were ants in our bathroom. Small ones, the whole week. I killed 8 once we got there, then the next day more were back. We didn't eat on the room and kept the trash out of the room or tossed any small snack we had when we left to go out in the outside trash can. I'd only come back for a groupon deal, wouldn't ever pay what they quote normally to stay. read more

I stayed at the palms as a last minute get away for my friends birthday and was overall very pleased with the suites & the staff especially. We went to CJs, which is affiliated with the hotel, for rocket fuels & some snacks. The drinks were delicious and our waiter Chuck was awesome! Kenny the bellboy was amazing and is the reason I'm writing this review. He went above & beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. I had an issue with my duffle bag, he washed & dried it for me, and returned it to me in perfect condition. He grabbed us everything we needed, including ice & extra towels. He even seemed happy to do the favors for us. The staff was incredible! Highly recommend staying here. Not to mention the fact they offer bikes, paddle boards, kayaks, wagons, beach chairs & towels all complimentary. Thanks so much for the hospitality! We'll be back. read more

I got the room w Groupon. When I called the hotel to confirm, there was no record of my reservation. Groupon never sent the hotel what it needed to. So Randi, Kerry, and Chuck were so nice. We booked a one nt stay at the Palms, check in is at 430 but we arrived at 1030am. Lori greeted us at desk and was so friendly! She told us to drop our bags and feel free to use all the amenities and they will call when room was ready! We grabbed chairs towels wagon n cold bottles of water and headed to beach. They called around 3 to say the room was ready early. We got our key and were very happy with our room. Room had king size bed great A/C a small chest of drawers and refrigerator. Was super clean and looked freshly painted. Bathroom had nice stone tiles and pedestal sink. Great water pressure and plenty of towels! Nice continental breakfast on patio as well.
