We arrived just after 3 to check in. The room wasn't ready so they sent us to a different room down the street in the rain without any assistance with our luggage. The room was a 3rd floor walk up and hadn't been cleaned so we had to traipse back to reception with our luggage in the rain to be sent to another 3rd floor walk up. When we returned to our room after dinner, the leaking roof left us with a puddle. The sink also was draining slowly. It was late and the rain had stopped so we waited to relate the problems until the morning. The receptionist's response was, "So, do you want us to fix this?" Uh, yes. We returned to our room later to no repairs. While the age of the buildings adds some charm, the street noise, thin walls and poor parking leave a great deal to be desired. read more

stayed at Danford's in Port Jeff on 7/3/24 and checked out the morning of 7/4/24. I gave my credit card upon check in. checked out 7/4 and received a pending charge for $102.55 on my card on 7/5. I call and they tell me it was 2 bottles of alcohol charged to the room. I never gave my name or room number or charged any alcohol to my room while at Danfords. I received no receipt. i called several times. I'm either left on hold. told it's too busy to call back. told someone will call me back. this is unacceptable! they have nothing to show I charged 2 bottles of alcohol to my Room because I did not. the charge also says it was 7/4. I check out 7/4 morning and we were in our room before mofnight on 7/3. Do better Danfords! Not going back. Customer service is horrible. read more

Without a doubt, Danford's is a beautiful spot to eat outside right on Port Jeff Harbor. The scenic backdrop of the Long Island Sound, the boats, and great live music makes for an upbeat place to dine. The staff is friendly, and it's always bustling. Being a local, I've been coming to this place for many years and have found the quality of the food to vary from one visit to the next. Today, I had lunch with a friend. It was wonderful to be outside and catch up. We decided to order a few appetizers as our main course. Everything on the menu sounded delicious., Unfortunately, that was the extent of it. The margaritas were nothing to write home about. Very ordinary, the presentation very mediocre. My friend ordered a second one and requested that they put some orange flavoring in it which they forgot. That was after reminding them after a half hour that she had ordered the drink. The meal. Calamari, was sub par, seemed to be just the rings that could have been previously frozen, No punch or pizzazz to the breading and the marinara sauce lacked flavor. We ordered a Tuna Poke appetizer with some avocado and mango. The tiny pieces of tuna were far and few in between and I asked the waitress if perhaps they could put a little bit more tuna in. It was extremely disappointing. They did have a chopped Asian salad which was good with a sesame ginger dressing, shredded crispy wontons cut up cabbage and peanuts. When I asked for bread I was told they don't serve bread with lunch. I would say that Danford's is a great place to come to have a drink and listen to some music. I used Danford's own website to book a 2-story, dog - friendly suite for the night of Black Friday (11/29/24). I made the reservations the weekend immediately after Halloween, and my bank statement shows the $400+ bill being deducted on 11/4/24. On the morning of the day we checked in, I called Danfords to ensure that all was a go with my reservation, as i never received any confirmation emails or follow ups beyond confirmation on the website the day i made the reservation. I called Danfords, and the gentleman on the phone confirmed the reservation. He told me check in begins at 4pm. We were running a bit late, and initially tried to check in at 5:30 pm. The hotel clerk, Ivy (who i in no way blame for what I'm about to discuss) informed me that there was a "discrepancy" with the room. She asked for 10 -15 minutes to sort it out, so I laid back and waited a bit. After returning to the counter, I observed a woman speaking with the hotel clerk about her room. I didn't catch many details of the conversation, but it sounded like she was working out an issue of her own regarding the room she was staying in. When i spoke with the hotel clerk, she told me that she had staff check the room, and it was good to go. Something inside me told me to check the room before i brought my girlfriend and dog inside, and im glad that i did. I opened the door with the freshly activated keys, and the woman i had seen down at the counter was in the suite with her kids! WTF?! How does that even happen? I went back downstairs to the hotel counter, and Ivy did her best to apologize for the mix up. She told us we were being upgraded to the Presidential Suite, which is also in the main building. She told me that it was more expensive than the room i had booked. Erring on the side of caution once more, I checked out the room first. It was only one story, but still a nicely equipped room, with access to a shared balcony, and a GREAT view. But this room still just didnt seem to match or surpass the large suite we had booked, so i checked out Danford's website, and the thumbnail said $194 (less than half of what i paid for the original suite). Now I'm getting VERY angry, and I approached Ivy once more, and she showed me some kind of voodoo where one can turn a $194 advertised price on the thumbnail into $615 at checkout. Poor Ivy & the nonsense these clerks and managers have to deal with! It was clear that I had made her upset with my anger, and I apologized to her, and let her know that i completely understand that she was not blame for the issues, I was just venting more than anything. Anyways, I grabbed my GF & dog (who were now by this time annoyed, because they had been waiting in the car for about 45 mins by this point) and about 10 seconds after we walked into the room, our dog sniffed out a large, dried urine stain on the bedroom floor, just outside the bathroom. At that point, I just laughed and wiped it up with chlorox wipes. The rest of the night was excellent, and the room was in fact lovely. The final jab came at checkout. That 15 minute period where I was accidentally double booked? Yeah....That lady ordered over $100 of room service that somehow got billed to MY card, leaving the money out of my account for several days before it was returned. Mistakes happen, but I would NEVER have known of this mistake had I not looked at the emailed receipt. When I saw this charge to my account, I walked back up to the front desk, where the manager on duty (not Ivy, another woman who's name I do not recall) who had just checked me out 5 mins prior, explained what happened without even looking at the receipt, because she already knew. Yet, she didn't think that this was something I should know about?! THAT angers me. Danfords, you need to get your house in order! Your website pricing system needs to be fixed ASAP, you need to make sure that your housekeeping & maintenance team is properly staffed, and you REALLY need to fix whatever mistakes led to the room I booked a month out being occupied BEFORE I check in (they had an extra 90 mins since i checked in late I might add, and I had also called that morning to confirm the reservation). The manager that checked me out of the room informed me that the mix up was caused by the lady who had the room extending her stay at the last minute. She was initially supposed to move to another room, but she Karen'ed her way into keeping the one she had so that she didn't have to. Maybe she will leave a review as well! While these issues were all eventually either corrected or dealt with as best as possible, next time I want a romantic night in a storied Long Island Hotel I'll be heading out to Montauk instead. read more

I've to say, the price was right during the winter holiday and my room was excellent. We paid roughly a little less than $150. It had an overview of the main road, which I really enjoyed because of how pretty and well decorated the town was during this time of the year. C 10 was my room. In any case, the space itself was lovely and very comfortable. Certainly big enough to enjoy some time with friends or just to be romantic with your significant other. I'm not sure what else a room needs to be other than being comfortable and clean! I read other reviews but did not share their woes. I heard nothing or no one from any other room, nor did I find the decor off putting or dreary as some suggested (I wasn't thinking/expecting I'd be walking into a slick, stainless steel, modernist hotel that would make the Guggenheim proud). The fact is that the ambiance fits very well with the overall look of the town, making this place just a nice hotel in which to spend an evening. Amenities were nothing to write home about, but, again, I'm here to enjoy the town; I'm heading out and breathing in the quiet festive spirit and enjoying the food out there. Therefore, I don't need much inside the room that I'm not getting in the picturesque town of Port Jeff. I hadn't realized how many buildings this hotel owned. Their bar/restaurant had live music and decent drinks. Pretty smooth and easygoing atmosphere. And the help at the desk was quick, to the point, and with a ready smile! The internet work perfectly. I booked this hotel for a night to try to cheer up my daughter who's been having a hard time dealing with the covid-19 thing. I booked the larger and way more expensive room, because it had a balcony. we took the ferry over for the night and we were sent to the top (3rd) floor of a building that was across the parking lot and down. couple buildings from the lobby. When we got up there, there was no balcony. I didn't want to make a fuss or call down to lobby in front of my little girl because this night was all about happiness! When I quietly talked to the staff at the desk about this, actually showing her a photo of the word balcony, she said the balcony is "shared". That we are to share the balconies on the 1st and 2nd floors! what?? We don't even have one on the 3rd floor! This is hilarious to me. In all my travels, I've never seen a hotel advertise a room having. a balcony but then telling the customers to... exit their room, go down a hallway, turn, go down a flight of stairs, out a door, and share that balcony, having to sit in front of another person's room if we want to have use of it... the staff gave me 10% refund after perusing this but with taxes and fees, I would of definitely spent a lot less if i wasn't misinformed about the balcony... like $100 less. The next morning, we debated getting room service (which had a full breakfast menu in the book provided on our room) but decided to go down for breakfast on the water. We walked from place to place, no staff. Turns out there's no breakfast offered at this time. Ok, i may understand that. things have changed in the current covid craziness, no problem. My problem is with them leaving the room service menus in the rooms, and also advertising that breakfast is served at this property on many places on the web. Just went to Easter brunch, the service was great but the food was terrible. Sweet potato hash, sweet potatoes were barely cooked, very hard. Lamb was chewy and fatty. Mac and cheese dry and flavorless. Shortribs were tender but so so salty. So disappointed because it is a beautiful venue. I assume the high prices at Danford's is for its location on the water in Pt. Jefferson on Long Island. However, our room is across the street from the Sound in one of the many buildings making up this hotel, and our view of the parking lot is hardly romantic. Our Galley Building room was priced at close to $300 a night, for a large, stuffy hot room, with dated decor, and a dull, ugly, depressing decorating style. The furniture has cigarette burn holes on several of the chairs and dressers provided. The bed is uncomfortable as hell and there is a definitive mildew odor in the corridors and room. The bathroom was redone several years ago quite cheaply and is already falling apart. Danford's is the kind of hotel that provides one measly bar of soap at the sink for washing, bathing etc. for the entire room, no matter how many people are in the room. It is a very depressing hotel stay, and with more time, I would switch to some chain hotel or motel in Stony Brook. Service is unprofessional and the work force consists of "kids" needing part time jobs. Several of the people who work here were laughing at us in the parking lot as we dragged our luggage across the street. One of them yelled, "it's not too late to check out." Danford's depends on the many wedding parties for their income. No money is put into the hotel or its facilities. It is simply a horrific hotel that reminds me of hotels that cost less than fifty dollars a night. Take my advice, I am a seasoned traveler, stay elsewhere. This will be a very sad two nights. Danford's should be ashamed charging $300 a night for this room. However, it's my own fault for paying that amount of money just to be in Pt. Jefferson. Yikes! Live and learn at any age. A garbage truck just arrived at the rear of this building at 8:00 A.M. and our room literally shook to its rafters as the truck dumped the garbage. This hotel should pay me for staying in a room in their Galley annex. We had a horrific two nights at Danford's. No sleep at all. read more

I expect better--especially for the price. The view is unbelievable, as is the convenience. Our rooms were large and well decorated. The bathroom looked great for the most part and the water pressure in the shower was strong. All decent things you'd expect from a hotel charging these prices. One positive before I dive in: Our check in time was pushed back. We were provided vouchers for the inconvenience. The staff handled this mistake well. Unfortunately, there are a few things that I'd expect them to improve on, or adjust the price accordingly. First, our bathroom had black mold and the door wouldn't close. The windows need to be replaced. Noise proof the rooms. I don't want to hear every conversation someone is having in the street, nor do I want to hear every motorcycle and muscle car drive by late at night. The beds and pillows could be more comfortable. I shouldn't wake up wishing I'd brought a mattress pad. Again--this isn't a bad hotel. In fact, had the rooms been a different price, I'd have said this is a great place to stay; but, when you charge 4-5 star prices and posture as a 4-5 star hotel, you set an expectation. This doesn't meet the 4-5 star bar. Fix the things above--and you'll be there. My parents love Port Jeff, so I know we'll be returning at some point in the future. This hotel has been a local landmark in Port Jefferson for a long time with its location right on the marina and next to the loading area for the ferry. However, there are a few items about this hotel to be aware of when booking. First, the hotel is actually made up of several buildings not attached to the main building. Additionally, some of the buildings have very steep stairs which can be an issue with luggage. The rooms are clean with decent bathrooms but are beginning to show some age and could use an upgrade especially with the pricey rates. Ok folks this place does not live up to its reputation. Lets start with check in. They put us in the G building, asked to switch us to the building across from lobby and was told that building is too noisy. Well all I heard all night was banging of the dumpsters and sanitation picking them up. Mold in the bathroom shower and ripped wallpaper in our room. I was going to give it 3 stars but after I got home, I saw there was a charge of $6 for water, which we did not drink. Either the housekeeper lied-or she drank the water, or Danfords rips people off figuring people won't dispute it. If it wasn't for the restaurant and the bar it would have received one star. Hi decided to have the whole family go to danfords again this year since it was easier for the family has far has traveling in port Jeff , we'll found out they were under new ownership I honestly could say view doesn't change beautiful! But I did notice change from last year confused staff one of the bartenders was awfully rude !! The menu was ok was looking for there short ribs which were offered last year but no luck I don't know it wasn't the same has I had experienced last year's thanksgiving and I so look forward to this day with my grandchildren and family but I didn't feel it this year at danfords! rating minus 5 every other year we have our families spread all over the state so we choose to go to danfords for dinner on Christmas. Yesterday was one of those years. It was an open buffet at $75 plus adult beverages each. There was only one 5 pm seating for dinner (understood its christmas). Worst experience ever the hot food was ice cold , the food was in a transient area where any one could sneeze on it (in the bar area) was not plentiful and was not kept at board of health temperatures as required by suffolk county board of health. The prime rib and ham were ice cold and left uncovered and unattended when no one was at the carving station. The hostess took 35 bucks off the bill but Christmas was ruined by poor service, poor food, poor management and poor leadership. Stay away is my answer. read more

The food was the worst I can remember having. My wife got a burger and fries. The burger was probably cooked starting with frozen meat and was dry like a hockey puck. Fries had been cooked twice, hard, dry and actually hollow. The fries for my fish and chips were OK, just typical frozen fries not up to Burger King/McD standards. Danford's website touts itself as "a new level of luxury on Long Island." There is nothing luxurious about this place. Imagine spending six hours in the car in horrible traffic, only to arrive at your hotel that is $350 a night. There's no one at the front desk when you arrive... and when you get checked in and ask for water there is none. And then... you get you room key, walk down a set of stairs and realize you're staying in a basement room. I'm writing this seething in my horrible, uncomfortably small basement room. It feels like a prison cell. I was told this room was ground level and overlooked the parking lot. I can't even see the parking lot. The room has scuffs all over the walls. Imagine that after seeing a disappointing room, you go to the hotel restaurant for a romantic seaside dinner and you're met with rowdy crowds, a horrible live band that is so loud you can't hear your significant other, and $35 entrees with zero ambience and a broken AC. My Maui Margherita tasted like canned pineapple juice. No one working at the hotel was wearing a mask, despite rising Covid rates. I wish I had stayed home. I'm updating my review - I spoke with management about my concerns with the experience at the hotel and I was told "well that's the room you booked. You checked in several hours ago so there's nothing I can do." -The room reeks of mildew - the odor is strong I couldn't sleep -the air conditioner doesn't cool the room and is very loud (it's not central air, it's a unit) -the bathroom door doesn't shut -the bathroom light is so loud it woke me up in the middle of the night -the carpet is absolutely filthy -the room is so small it feels like a jail cell - there are no drawers. There's nowhere to put anything. Good thing we didn't have a suitcase because it wouldn't fit in the room. -the staff is unhelpful, unapologetic, and rude. First off let me say that My wife and I loved Danfords. During the summer months we ride my motorcycle there and enjoyed the outdoor marina, food and music. So much so that we had our wedding there in 2019. It was exceptional and we heard nothing but good things from our guests. Now here we are 2 1/2 years later and when my wife suggested we stay there overnight for my birthday we booked the same room (Presidential Suite) we had for 2 nights during our wedding. Now, we had heard that Danfords was sold to a major hotel chain recently but did not think how that would effect the place that we came to love. Sadly to say we were wrong, in just 2 1/2 years the change in the hotel, Wave restaurant and level of service had dropped considerably. The hotel is shabby, run down and in need of a good cleaning, the quality of the food has also suffered, pre-made as opposed to fresh and the service personnel are all young and inexperienced. The biggest disappointment was has happened to the so called Presidential Suite. It was pristine when we last stayed there, clean, immaculate and a pleasure to stay in. Now...the carpets are stained, torn, tables scratched, tv in the bedroom didn't work, where there was a king size mattress in the master they now have a queen but still on the king size frame, it looks ridiculous. There is grout missing between the tiles in the bathroom, the window sills, lamps and table tops have not been dusted in weeks. Yet there charge the same prices as they used to. We were extremely disappointed and left as soon as we awoke this morning as opposed to our plan to have breakfast there and walk around town. It's obvious that the employees are all in limbo under the new ownership and really don't give a dam about the once excellent reputation of the Hotel. I recommend you stay elsewhere. read more

I will give credit where credit is due: the water pressure in the shower is pretty good, so the one star I am giving the place is fully earned. But then: * The rooms are kind of grimy. The grout in the shower had black mold spots. One of the dresser drawers was possessed and would not stay closed. At the prices they charge, I would expect the place to be cleaner and to have functioning furniture. * There is no privacy. It's a motel setup, where you enter the room right from the outside (no hallway). It's not one building but a bunch of disconnected houses, so you could end up staying a quarter mile away from the desk, like on a camping ground. I would not be comfortable leaving anything of value in that room, because anyone could jimmy the window open and get in. The door in my room had a big glass window in it, too. The windows cannot be completely blacked out. * The WiFi signal was weak-to-absent, and when I was able to connect to it, the internet connection was extremely dodgy. I tested several devices, with different operating systems, and had the same problem on all of them. * Breakfast service starts so late that you might as well eat at one of the better restaurants in town. (Try Toast, it's great.) A hotel breakfast should be available at 6 or 7 am, no later. * There is no express check-out. In this day and age, the only thing you should have to do to check out is drop your key cards off at the counter (and even that should be optional, leave them in the room). Instead, I had to go over to the counter, waited for a long time while the receptionist poked around her computers, only to be told that their internet was down and that they would email me the receipt later. I'm still waiting for the receipt. * Their customer service is, to put it nicely, unobtrusive. When you ask them for something, if they don't know the answer or don't have the service, they just stop at "no" instead of helping you fix the problem. All in all, I would not recommend staying there. Look for other options, especially if you are a business traveler and do not have time to waste. read more

My boyfriend's family and I experienced abysmal service and low quality food. The reservation for his mother's birthday was for 8:30 pm. We were seated at 9:20 pm, and the restaurant was not visibly crowded. We waited for service for about 20 minutes before we were offered any sort of rectification. Once our food arrived, (about 10:20pm) the mussels were gritty, the steak was rare when it needed to be medium, and the food was cold. We had to pay 20 dollars a day to park in the town of Brookhaven lot, in addition to paying the hotel $8 for non existent parking. Also hotel employees were parking in the hotel lot, leaving no spaces for guests. Unacceptable. The room was sub terrain, dark, gloomy and run down. Also not a single dresser drawer to put clothes in. Bathroom was minuscule. Room was so tiny we couldn't move around comfortably. We also asked to switch rooms and our request was ignored. Imagine booking a room and making a trip from out of state only to discover that your room was sold to another person because there was an issue with the payment - no call - no email - nothing. You arrive to a WEDDING and you have no place to stay. I was lucky enough to have a friend let me stay in their room and we discovered a STRONG moldy smell. The carpet of the room was completely WET on one side of the entire room - our socks were soaked. Holes within the floor that appear to be covered in wet wood. I think this business is alive because people have no other choice once they arrive. Very poorly run - I don't think I can recommend this place in good conscious. To top it off there was NO ONE at the front desk and when I asked about a room the lady was very rude. I'm happy I kept my money and can't wait to leave. Side note: there is NOTHING luxurious about this place and the only 5 star reviews are from locals - imagine telling people how you really feel if you live in a small community - you can't. read more

Really annoyed! I stayed here last weekend and booked through booking.com a month prior to my stay. I was charged that same day. Upon checking my bank statement today I noticed I was charged for the room AGAIN on the day of my check in. It has been 7 days since the reservation has been completed and the charge is still on my account! Is this some sort of room hold? No! After calling they gave me some excuse that they "charged my card instead of a virtual card..." whatever that means....Really wrong to double charge even if it's a mistake. You are tying up an individuals money. Be more careful. Update: the amount of money this place charged me again was $263... they put $255 back in my account. What a flop! A friend and I came here for their restaurant week menu which we saw online. We sat upstairs because they were doing renovations to the downstairs which was fine with us. We basically already knew what we wanted so my friend ordered a drink and that's where the problems started. They didn't have the correct liquor for his drink so he ordered a different one. They didn't have the goods for the second drink either. He opted for a beer on tap only to have out server come back yet again and say because of the renovations they only have bottled beer. Okay whatever. We ordered and started off with some bread on the table. To be quite honest I think if I threw that bread at the window it would have broken the window. We asked for a different basket of fresh bread and didn't get it until half way into our entree. Even still we brushed it off. When we got our meals I noticed mine wasn't what the menu mentioned. I got the swordfish and it was supposed to come with mushroom, noodles and an asparagus pure. It instead came on a base of red quinoa, chopped carrots in the mix and cherry tomatoes on top of the fish. I didn't like it at all and I was extremely frustrated of the fact that when I brought it up to our server she said that it was a typo. She already knew that the menu was not correct but didn't mention it to us at all when we ordered.....what the hell?! For the dessert we got moose and a Nutella cheese cake which was alright. My cheesecake just tasted like plain chocolate- no hazelnut and it was plain chocolate on the plate. Why not Nutella? Sigh. Most likely won't return here to eat without incentive. read more
