    Gift card

I received a gift card a little over ten years ago for a free room or dinner . I know that's a long time . 2 years ago I called up and asked how I go about using it and I was told the card has no expiration date and there is no expiration date on the card . I figured I'd wait to use it for my 25th wedding anniversary which is this Monday . I called Danfords and was told that the card expired, there's new laws in place . That's ridiculous, this card was paid for and there are no expiration dates on the card . I'm trying to go on a Monday night and I'm sure there's plenty of rooms available yet Danfords basically told me there's nothing they will do about it and basically I have to chalk it up as a loss . I hope this review will steer people away from ever purchasing a gift card from Danfords and hopefully take their business elsewhere. Imagine taking money for something and not honoring it cause it's old but nowhere does it say expired

Ants were all over the room

BEWARE this hotel was NEGLIGENT durring our stay. My mother daughter and I stayed over Memorial Day weekend. The room had sugar ants in the shower, among the coffee maker, and even on the beds. But WORSE they knowingly put us in a first floor room with a broken window. We heard a SLAM in the middle of the night and weren't sure what it was. In the morning we looked and found the window (that was in the locked position- without a screen) could be opened from the back parking lot at any time. My THREE YR OLD was with us in a room where ANYONE could enter at ANY TIME!!! We called the local PD to let them know of the attempted break in and the maintence person said they had KNOWN about the BROKEN WINDOW!!! So get this!! They willingly put us in a first floor room with a kid where ANYONE at ANYTIME has access though the window. I'm appalled. Please be safe and don't stay here.

My review of Danfords is based on the hotel bar, chicken nuggets and french fries. I came here with my boyfriend to see his friend Rob sing we were with my son. The entertainment space in the bar area isn't very spacious, Rob set up in front of a pillar/column area. I think when they hire live music here they aren't looking to get crowds dancing, just provide a relaxing atmosphere for people at the bar. The bar was nice, we sat at a couch and small table area. I got my son a shirley temple to drink and being that I don't drink myself I might have had an OJ&seltzer or a shirley temple too. I ordered chicken nuggets and french fries to keep my son a little busy besides coloring. He seemed to like the nuggets. One day if I have more money than I do currently, if I pay off some of my debt or somehow just get a large sum of money and am finally comfortable I'd like to stay at Danfords. Even though I live on Long Island and plan to live here until I at least retire I enjoy staying in different hotel rooms to feel like I'm traveling but I don't really get to do that. Than I can update my review on Danfords as a hotel instead of just visiting the bar area.

Definitely a room for a romantic weekend or peaceful, relaxing retreat for solitude and contemplation. The Breakfast was just lovely! Fresh pastries, Fruit, Hard Boiled Eggs, Yogurt, Jams and tons of noshes like granola bars, popcorn and some sweets in the freezer. The Surfside Hotel

My siblings and I are planning to gather in Lordship Township, which is part of Stratford,…read moreConnecticut, to celebrate my sister's birthday in January 2025. Our family has gathered here for about 30 years, for holiday dinners at our mom's house, which is in Lordship Township, right on Long Island Sound. For all of those years, those of us who traveled from a distance would stay at Marnick's, a locally owned hotel that's right on the beach near our mom's house. Our mom passed a few years ago and I hadn't returned to Lordship Township since then. On a whim, browsing online for hotels in the area, I learned about The Surfside Hotel. I learned that Marnick's had closed and that a while later Surfside emerged, sporting a whole new vibe. Prior to committing to recommending a sibling gathering there, I spent the night last week at Surfside. I'm happy to report that the upgrade is impressive. While the rooms now cost more than they did when Marnick's owned the place, the prices are well within reason for the area. I took an Amtrak from D.C. (about 6 hours), paid about $12 for an Uber/Lyft from the train station, and arrived to meet Iona at the hotel's front desk. She took my information and offered that she'd been there for about 2 years and the present owners have been there for about six years. All the features of the hotel appeared to be solidly restored and improved upon. I had a second-story room (21) with a balcony looking out to the Sound. There was a complimentary coffee bar with self-serve coffee, tea, hot chocolate, fruit, and snack bars. There's a beach-reading library, so I contributed my copy of Rachel Kushner's recent novel, "Creation Lake," which I finished reading on the train ride from DC. There were no downsides. There's a decent efficient fitness center that includes a Peloton and free weights. There's a map of the area suggesting pleasant walks along the seawall, Russian Beach, the Prospect Light House, and Long Beach Gatehouse. There are paths taking hikes of two miles, 3.6 miles, and five miles, and a suggestion for a longer bike ride. The main reason for this visit was to see whether the siblings would be able to stay on site for meals. There's a well-populated bar and restaurant attached to the hotel called The Little Pub (see my Yelp review.) There's also a neighborhood Italian restaurant and bar half a block away. There's a deli and an adjacent pizza parlor three blocks away, where I picked up a single slice of pizza and a portion of carrot cake. The Lordship Corner Market is right next to the pizzeria, and has sandwiches, newspapers, and sundries for days at the beach. For those with cars, I can recommend the Cricket Car Hop, a mile or two inland, for great hot dogs, burgers & fries (it was a favorite of my mom's, and we went there just about every time I visited, but I wasn't in town long enough this time to visit). Things to keep in mind: Surfside is a small business, not part of any chain. Iona needed to know when I was likely to arrive, to be sure someone was available for check in. No one was at the front desk when I checked out (but I received a check-out acknowledgement shortly after 9 a.m. the day I checked out). I believe pets are welcome (I saw a service dog there as I was leaving in the morning). There are no elevators, and my room was on the second floor. The hotel is still using single-use plastics for the shower, and the tub lacked handholds. But the vibe is good . . . we get the aloha and mahalo greetings, suggesting Hawaiʻi roots. The innkeepers report that "Boy knows nothing about running a hotel, but restaurant comes with a hotel attached so it's all or nothing. Boy must convince Girl it's a good idea. Girl is not impressed. Boy breaks into song. Girl is impressed and says YES! Restaurant and hotel are redone, there is singing and dancing, and everyone is happy." True Romance! Mahalo

Check-in went smoothly and we had a very nice suite-like room with a kitchen, living room, bedroom, sink area, and bathroom. The bed was comfy, the HVAC controls worked fine, and the TV and WIFI were excellent. The shower temperature and pressure were perfect. However, there were some Annoying, Disappointing, and Absurd observations that impacted this three-star rating. What was Annoying? The bathroom fan and shower were guilty of annoyance in the first degree. When you turned on the light switch, the ceiling fan would slowly fire up and soon hit such a loud volume that I thought someone in the room next door was taking a shower. And then when we were taking our showers, there was a bizarre beeping noise that came from deep within the bowels of the plumbing system. Seriously, I thought it was an alarm or a phone beeping. What was Disappointing? Simply put, breakfast was disappointing. They had had the usual breakfast offerings -cereal, muffins, yogurt, fruit, and a waffle maker. But there were only two hot trays -scrambled eggs and sausage patties. The lack of hot choices when compared to comparable hotel breakfasts was disappointing. Oh, and the tray of bananas was empty for quite a while, and we gave up waiting for it to be replenished. What was Absurd? This hotel is in an open suburban space next to a shopping center and a movie theater. I looked out the window of my room and must have seen 75 available parking spots in the hotel lot. So, all that makes it particularly galling and absurd that the Marriott charges a $12/night parking fee. What's also annoying is that the fee is kind of hidden, and the cost was never directly vocalized when we checked in- just a "we'll take a credit card imprint for incidentals".

They are dog friendly which is a plus for those traveling with their furries. My room was very comfortable, clean and sleep quality was good. I never did the breakfast, but big respect for the great morning coffee! I did find that they do not keep the common areas very tidy. Might be a staffing issue, but there was trash in several areas including the stairwells and my last day I could clearly tell nobody had vacuumed the stairwell the entire time I was there. I did have housekeeping the third day of my stay/after my second night but it was not thorough- they just made the bed, left fresh towels, emptied the trash and ran my coffee cups through the dishwasher. Totally fine but No vacuuming ( there was stuff on the floor from my shoes the day before), did not leave any coffee in room and had clearly not wiped the bathroom vanity area down. I am not very messy so it was a non issue. Some of the people that stay here may be a little strange (maybe that is everywhere) as on my third morning, I opened my door and there was a balled up dirty sheet that someone had clearly intentionally left right there! Very bizarre. Between the good and strange I would stay here again, I really liked the staff and my room was very comfortable!

This hotel has been renovated and has great fittings and Dove branded amenities. Gentleman who checked us in was friendly and courteous. Rooms are spacious, we took a King and sofa bed. Breakfast was nice. Cheese omelette, yogurt, bananas, cinnamon rolls, pancake machine and more plus coffee all day in the lobby. I would have given this hotel a 5 star except for these points that the management should take care before someone else has this experience. 1. TV powers on but you can't see any channels (not a biggie for one night) 2. Extra bedding for the sofa bed. It wasn't nicely packed in a bag in the room. Instead the front desk gave us a pillow, blanket and one fitted sheet. Fitted sheet was crumpled as if it had been used. We asked for newly laundered sheets and it was delivered to our room with extra sheets. Some of these sheets were not folded and crumpled. I understand that hotels have a staff shortage but clean sheets are a must for any hotel. I wonder if this is a franchise hotel where they are taking shortcuts. My message to the management is that if this is not fixed they may lose their position as the " official hotel of the SeaWolves". There's so much good in the hotel and this treatment of sheets is irritating. I mentioned this to the lady at the reception at checkout and got a very luke warm response and no apology. That shows me a lack of training and empathy.

I then immediately went to the front desk to ask to change room where they then gave me a different accessible room. I went in and fortunately had no smell but some sort of gum on the wall and by then I had enough and I'd rather find an alternative hotel. I went down and asked to speak to the manager for the 3rd time and was told they wouldn't be back until the morning. I was then told by the front desk I wouldn't be able to receive a refund until the manager came back so I decided just to leave since I'd rather dump the money than to stay at a horrible hotel as this one.
