Danji is no more as the very popular To Sok Jib in Annandale has taken over the space previously occupied by Danji. The Annandale TSJ is a hole in the wall with about 8 tables and a line out the door. Since they acquired this location around July of 2018, a similar buzz has made its way to Centreville. The menu cover says 'Danji', but the inside of the menu is clearly the same as TSJ. As for the food, it's some of the most authentic Korean food you will find. This may turn off some, as the pungent smells will hit you when you walk in the door. We ordered the army stew (budaejiggae) and yellow croaker (jogae gui). Army stew was full of sausage, pork, and kimchee. One order can feed 3-4 people. I ordered the croaker for my two boys, and they loved it! The skin is crispy and the filet inside is soft and flaky. Be careful of the small bones, though. Service isn't great, but that's to be expected at many traditional Korean restaurants. Who cares? The food is good. Our family of four ate here with friends who frequent the Annandale location and they reported that the food was the same quality. Here you just have more space (but still a line to be seated). read more

After hearing some good things about this place, it was time to give it a try for a birthday lunch. Danji is a nice change of pace away from the typical AYCE KBBQ places in the surrounding area. I ordered the bulgogi, which was seemingly flavorless, but definitely had enough to share with someone else. The good thing about this was that it was definitely filling. We ordered a kimchi pancake which was really, really good. The size was also great, which made it perfect for sharing with others. The flavor was really strong and left you wanting for more. I got to try some of the spicy pork, and that, too, was very flavorful. The pork had just enough sauce to where it was spicy, but not so much sauce that it wasn't tolerable. Overall, I wouldn't go out of my way to go back, especially with all the other Korean restaurants in the area. Looking for somewhere new to try in the area, after searching on the handy Yelp we found this place. Particularly their Korean fried chicken seems to be a popular dish and was what caught my eye. They weren't too busy on a Saturday just after opening. We were warmly greeted and seated right away. We got their dumplings to start, very yummy. And they brought out a few over things, little salads of sorts, a potato salad, a cucumber salad and fruit of some sort. As well as soup. Not sure if that all came with the dumplings or just is complimentary, but all good stuff. The waitress made a soft little laugh when we ordered the Korean fried chicken. I imagine it's their most popular dish. The kids sitting across from us got it as well. The portion is HUGE! We (the two of us) shared it and we still had enough leftovers for us both at home. LUNCH REVIEW We came here during lunch on a weekday and was happy with our meals. It was my first time here. We took advantage of the $10 lunch menu which was a selection of fish and stew/soup. The side dishes were all good. Our table ordered like 3 sets of banchan and by the time we left, only one single dish of kimchi remained. The fish (mackerel, croaker, and beltfish) was delicious. Came here as a second choice. We were originally going to go to BonGa (highly recommend) but saw that they were closed on Monday. First impressions were good. The store is fairly clean. A lot of snippets of articles, newspaper reviews, and etc all blown up to hype the store. In the end it was all hype. The menu is simple. Not too many items. The first thing that will catch your eye will be the price of everything. Non-Koreans don't be fooled. These prices are not "normal" for Korean food. There are much better places for a better price and service elsewhere. Like BonGa I mentioned above. When we got our food, the quantity at first justified the price for me a bit. But as I started eating it, that changed quickly. It wasn't that good. I don't care if you give me a lot of something to justify the price. If it's bad, I'm not going to eat it. Just stay away. They give a lot of little different side dishes that are free for you to enjoy before the food comes out. The seafood pancake is usually crispy and delicious. Sometimes it is not as crispy as I would prefer. I always get their fried yellow croaker which is so buttery and flavorful. The service is pretty good and they have a lot if seating. I don't have a lot of experience with Korean food but the Bulgogi and rice I ordered here was very good. The thing I like about this place is that it is very clean and very comfortable. The waitress was very friendly and helped this Korean food noob understand what some of the appetizers were (acorn jelly!?). Like many of the places in this shopping center the prices are not super cheap, but they do give you a buck or 2 off for lunch time. They also have some WEIRD items on the menu, and I think that is a good thing. Chicken gizzards, chicken feet, squid, monkfish, intestine!...I don't think I'll be brave enough to try them. Another thing about the menu is there are LOTS of choices, and while they do list things in English, it was hard for me to understand what they were. They also have pictures on a TV screen that might help and a few pics on the menu. I need to learn more about Korean food! Overall I thought compared to the other restaurants in this Korean shopping center, it was the cleanest most modern. Plus my #1 item was the best I've had in my limited experience so far. I honestly was not impressed by Danji at all. The service was pretty comical and the food was lackluster. My siblings and I came here on a Sunday afternoon. The place has a good amount of seating and was fairly empty upon arrival. We were greeted and given two menus. The menus were printed on pieces of paper, stapled together. Not an issue, but a key mention for now. So, maybe 15 minutes passed before any one approached us to see if we were ready for to order. When someone finally did, she asked, "Are you guys ready to order?" We responded, "yes, we would like the" before we were cut off and the server took our menus from us to give to another table. Wait what? We all looked in pure confusion. Your menus are printed on paper yet you don't have an ample supply? The place wasn't even crowded! Anyways..she comes back to actually take our order. We proceed to tell her we'd like the Korean fried chicken and then tofu soup with beef. When we ordered the soup, she looked confused. She didn't know what menu item we were talking about. Hmm, a good time to have the menu so we could show her. It took a while for the food to come out. The tofu soup lacked any flavor - no spice or anything. We asked for hot sauce/chili, but they didn't have any to add to it. Initially I did like the Korean fried chicken. I thought it was cooked properly and a decent amount of sweetness. However, the more and more I ate it, the more I started to dislike the taste. For one - it's just my personal preference that I enjoy white meat over dark meat. As the other reviewers pointed out, Danji has been taken over by the popular Tosokjip. They have great lunch specials especially if you like grilled fish. Since I'm not too big of a fan of cooked fish, I tried the spicy pork dish (jeyook bokeum) which was okay.. I wouldn't get it again. I do absolutely love their intestine stew though (gopchang jungol). Nice portion and lots of flavor - yum! Prepare to wait if you go during the lunch hour. read more

Danji deserves a 5 full stars. This is one of the best best best Korean restaurant in Centerville. The owners are very nice and friendly, the food here are authentic and very flavorful and delicious. The food can be pricey but the portion is huge. I love the Korean fried chicken from here. The portion is so big, it's enough to feed 3 ppl. The chickens are fried to order but you don't have to wait too long like bonchon. It's very crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. This is always great with their $2 draft beer! You can never go wrong with chicken and beer! My favorite dish from here is the spicy pork belly with octopus mixed with Kimchi and ricecakes. My girlfriend suggested this place for dinner since she was craving for Korean fried chicken and wanted something other than Bon Chon or Chi Mc. This was our first time here and I have say...not too shabby at all. We came on a Saturday night around 830pm and were seated immediately. The ambience was cozy and our waiter was very attentive even though restaurant was nearly full at the time. In terms of food, my girlfriend ordered the fried chicken as expected and because i was feeling for something more warm and comforting, I went with the budae jjigae soup. The Korean fried chicken was boneless, with DARK MEAT! I'm a huge fan of dark meat chicken. It's more moist, tender, and tastier than white meat in my opinion. The chicken was battered perfectly and freshly fried, marinated in a sweet sauce, drizzled with Japanese mayo. It was mouthwatering delicious. Not to mention, the portion was definitely for 3-4 hungry people (great value). As for the budae jjgae soup, it was very homey. The soup was comprised of a variety of meat (hot dog, spam, and sausages), tofu and kimchi. It also came with a side plate of ramen which you're supposed to put in the soup when you're ready to chow down. I think the reason for this is because they didn't want the ramen to be overcooked in the soup....how thoughtful. I enjoyed this dish very much even though it was on a particularly warmer summer night. I can't imagine how much more fitting this soup would be if eaten on a cold or rainy day. In typical Korean fashion, our meal came with banchan side dishes that complimented our meal very well. Overall, solid 4 stars. I ordered a gopchang jeongol, which is intestine casserole on 6/20/2020. This is priced around $40 with enough content to feed 4 people. As we were eating our second bowl, I thought my eyebrow had fallen into the food. I used my fingers to pluck it out only to find that it was an antenna of a cockroach....... That's right, I found a cockroach in my food. Just imagine that I had been eating out of a food that had cockroach in it... I threw up and trashed the rest of the food. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. Health and Safety Inspection needs to come out and inspect this restaurant. What kind of a state does the kitchen need to be in to have bugs in the food? I've been wanting to stop by for a long time and I finally got the chance last Saturday. My mom is pretty picky when it comes to Korean restaurants, but she absolutely loved it! I would definitely have to say that their food is more authentic than other restaurants. We got the Korean Fried Rice & the cold spicy noodles (I can't remember the name right now.) The prices are fair and the food was worth it. The Korean Fried Chicken was absolutely DELICIOUS! The flavor was great, and the outside was soft but crispy enough. I couldn't stop eating it. The noodles were really good as well. It tasted like what my mom would make at home. I also loved their side dishes. My mom could not stop talking about how much she loved the food. I have been here a couple of times and the facility is nice and modern looking. They have one TV with Korean news and one TV with the golf channel. Then they have several small TVs with menu items. The waitresses speak limited English, so be prepared for that if you go there. You have to understand Korean culture and not expect the same type of service you are accustomed to in an American restaurant. The food is basic Korean comfort food. It is ok, but nothing exciting. Newly discovered Korean restaurant in the Centreville area! Inside Danji everything is very clean and bright. My friends and I received good service and great food. The portions all around were bigger than we expected, which was a great surprise! I highly recommend the fried chicken - it's large enough to share or bring some extras home. Took a group (16) out on Sunday night. Bottom line, slow service, mediocre food, and argumentative waitresses. It took 10 minutes get everyone water and menus and we had to ask for EVERYTHING. Place was full and we are understating people so no problem, but cut the attitude ladies. One soup that we ordered for our kids, where in any other korean restaurant it's not spicy, here it was, and when I let them know to try to change it, they said it's not spicy and that it was our taste buds that was the problem. I had nothing to say. I mean, that there is the definition of bad customer service. Food was nothing special but seems to be more expensive than other korean spots. I was craving me some army stew) It really hit the spot and while some places are super skimpy with the meat, this one had plenty of slabs of pork and spam and sausages and the kimchi was plentiful. I do wish there was a little more variety in the side dishes, but the ones we did get were really good. The potatoes especially...but the kimchi was still just ok. I have yet to find a place that has good kimchi here...but I'm determined to find it!
